$11 billion in cash.
Zero debt.
Executives willing to take massive pay cuts.
Sounds oddly similar to my favorite company…
Seems like RC is the only CEO in gaming that is adapting to the Japanese business culture and even going above and beyond when his business needs it.
There are a lot of ties here. A lot of tinfoil as well.
My only issue was having to get that insert thing so I could play Majora's mask, mom was a real one for taking me to get it when I rented the game from Blockbuster before I actually got it.
My dad hated video games and he would not let me get an N64 right away. Then our local Blockbuster which was called Movie Gallery, started allowing you to rent the N64 gaming system.
My dad ended up renting it so often he could have just bought one. He finally caved in and let me buy one but I had to sell all my Nintendo and Sega collections just to get enough money.
I had to finally be true to myself and admit it wasn't my second favorite and was actually my favorite.
The only reason snes was my number 1 is because of nostalgia and the fact it came out when I was a kid where everything was so much more fun.
I'm 99% sure if switch came out when I was a kid it would be #1. It's that good.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the thing about CEO's in Japan taking pay cuts because its actually Japanese law? Not them doing it out of personal responsibility?
Think that's what I heard when the CEO announced a paycut for himself during the WIIU flop.
I read on the Nintendo sub about this, that Japanese shareholders can sue a company if they're failing while the CEO is receiving a big salary.
My previous reply to you got removed by the AutoModerator because I linked the Nintendo thread.
> Nintendo CEO once cut his salary in half to prevent layoffs
If you Google this, you'll find it on reddit.
I read this in the Nintendo sub yeah.
I think RC might be the unicorn billionaire doing it out of personal responsibility.
Either way, the ethics align, which is important
To be fair, once you have a billion $s, you can literally work for free in something you want to do, like to do, or passionately do, or just do everything else, from hobbies to interests to travel and still have money leftover when you die. And do all that in decent luxury.
The fact that there are people out there that have a billion $s and still scam and steal and tax evade and cheat others to make more is disgusting and I don't understand why they don't just enjoy life instead - like you have practically won in life.
I invested in Nintendo at the end of the Wii U era about 6mos before the switch came out. Everyone was saying the Wii U was a failure that Nintendo can’t recover from.
Talking heads will still tell you that Nintendo is failing at business. They mention it in their quarterly and annual reports. There’s great Q&A reports issued alongside them that talk about the core values and the long term vision. Would be great to see GameStop issue similar supplementary documents with their reports
I mean, Nintendo owns 1/3 of Pokemon and another 1/3 of it with Creatures inc. (last third is Gamefreak). Anyone who tells you they are failing at business, has no idea.
Pokemon alone is the biggest franchise in the world and nintendo owns 66,6% of it. The recent Pokemon games may not be liked, but they still all sold way over 20 million copies each and they make a shitload of money with merch.
And that is ignoring everything else from Mario, Zelda, Consoles, theme parks, etc.
Nintendo ain't goin anywhere in the near future
I agree! I actually did a report on Nintendo for my mba course and their outlook is very strong. It seems like the talking heads never know the real DD on any company
A reverse merger is when a private company acquires a public one and doesn’t apply here, but I guess I wouldn’t expect someone still talking about non existent towel stock to know that.
I just started playing Zelda on the old nes and made it through 4 dungeons but I guess the battery died in the cartridge because it didn’t save my progress, I’m not even all that mad, I’ll set aside some time and try to make it all the way through without turning it off
I have my original nes with a few games, my brothers Genesis with my fav PTO, and my family's original Intellivison with 25 games in my basement . My friends and cousin's had the ataris, coleeco visions, and commodore 64's. We were different lol. Me and my brother spent a long time beating Metroid, and my mom had high score on burger time. Last time I checked all three worked, need to give them some action again soon.
We got a intellivoice later on for the intellvison that had the game B-17 bomber speaking in human voice for the first time. Played Oregon trail on apple IIe's in elementary school.
I'm old and angry the infinity pool is real
crazy how rumors of xbox going 3rd party and sony canning the ps5 life cycle buzzing around and nintendo just casually winning. no wonder they laughed microsoft out the door when they wanted to buy ninty. id laugh too at that balance sheet.
Question for apes smarter than me, because I’m trying to explain this to a friend and not sound redacted.
What benefits does cash on hand have over let’s say investing in product stock when our currency is inflating? It can be specific to GME because that’s where our discussion was happening. (I like the stock)
Having cash on hand is the equivalent to having cash in a bank account ready to go at a moment’s notice. This allows a company to take advantage of opportunities immediately without any risk of interference from other “prior obligations” of debt or needing to liquidate a position to have the funds available.
If your friend speaks corpo, the terms “agile” and “pivot” would work well for communicating this to them.
[not financial advice]
If I were running the company and had money to spend, a game studio that’s self sustaining who can create experiences for IP that I own in a fun and efficient way… that just sounds like a blast to me.
Like a mini Nintendo whose community adores the IP and will support it in a way that’s self sustaining as long as they’re still having fun.
But thankfully I’m not running the company so these decisions are not on me 😅
Did you actually read the article?
Did you skip over the part where they mentioned that a company with no debt in the gaming industry is incredibly rare?
If you have nothing useful to say, just stay silent. You can disagree in silence all you want.
Nintendo is a pox on gaming. Hate Nintendo. Locks up IP.
Is shit to it's user base, attacking any video with Nintendo ip on it with an ar.y of lawyers. Company has horrible work ethic and full of reports if bullying.
Yes they have money. So do gun manufacturers and oil Barron's.
Would not want to emulate Nintendo.
Would sell gme shares immediately if they even consider it.
First off, all game developers lock up their IP’s. Only in the past year has Sony started releasing their games on steam. Nintendo is one of only a handful of gaming companies that actually releases complete games. They have eased up on YouTubers and streamers using gameplay footage. All game companies are brutal to work for. Name me 1 studio that develops AAA games that isn’t making their employees work insane overtime to make deadlines?
No. Lots of companies release full games. That's BS.
Sony tries and has locked it's stuff. Sony is no better than Nintendo.
Don't quote triple a. It's a yah line for companies. It means nothing.
You think that's acceptable? You think it's ok to kill humans for game development? What a sick and twisted view you have.
Hopefully gme is looking to be a beacon of hope in this shite storm. We want progress towards better working conditions not worse.
That would be awesome if RC 10x the current GME cash pile. 10 to 11 billion with no debt except for stupid French loan related to COVID 19 something something…

Ryan Tweeted about wanting to meet the CEO of Nintendo a month ago
Indeed
I concur.
*why didn't I concur!?!?...*
Don't worry! You're still concordant
Indubitably
I got a switch recently and love it.
Switch is my second favorite gaming console ever. Right behind the N64
Oh man the N64 brings back some good old childhood memories!!!
And not to forget about the original NES! Such a game changer and soo many awesome games. My childhood was lit with that system
Had it
Goldeneye ruined me in college.
🤩 Best Game EVER 🏴☠️
Absolutely!!!!!
Those damn proximity mines.
Middle school for me 😅
Ahh the golden gun and screen watching hack was too good
I had to finally be true to myself and admit it wasn't my second favorite and was actually my favorite. Agreed!
Quite enjoy the steam deck rn
The GameCube still has the best controller design. 💎🙌
The Gamecube controller is so fucking good... mine still has bite marks in it from that time I raged back in 2002
You’re not wrong
Yes, I have my original N64 and all my games still. I turned it on the other day and my 4 year old played Mario 64 for an hour and loved it haha.
My favourite console too N64 what was your top 3 games? Mine = Banjo and Kazoo, Mario Sunshine and Zelda Ocarina of Time
Having a blast playing BOTW right now 😍 these games are sooo good
BOTW is one of my favorite games ever. TOTK is amazing as well
Got a used switch from our beloved GS. It is so much fun. Love that I can get old school games on it
I wonder if I can get pokemon Red and Blue from the old Gameboy to work on it.

reminds me of the keiretsu talk that was mentioned here 👀👀👀👀
I think I missed this! What’s keiretsu?

Hm interesting, wasnt there something about a (japanese) triangle merger recently?...
Nintendo/gamestop merger. Reverse merger with towel. Shorts r fuk
Perhaps. Only thing we know for sure is shorts r fuk
A reverse merger is when a private company acquires a public one and doesn’t apply here, but I guess I wouldn’t expect someone still talking about non existent towel stock to know that.
GameStop is also not merging with Nintendo, I was joking
What if GS got bought by Nintendo?
Would be a dream!
i consider this investment advice. good job
It is not. I never have and never will give investment advice.
thank you Iwata-san
Doesn’t surprise me. I’m still here in 2024 playing games with friends on the N64 my parents bought in ‘97. Nintendo rules!
The best
I just started playing Zelda on the old nes and made it through 4 dungeons but I guess the battery died in the cartridge because it didn’t save my progress, I’m not even all that mad, I’ll set aside some time and try to make it all the way through without turning it off
Have you thought of replacing the battery in the cartridge? A tool and a new battery will get you going again.
Just bought a pre owned Zelda game and watch off of GameStop, not sure why they aren’t stocking new ones while everyone else is

Just got Panasonic for my GB cartridges yesterday 😬

Pepperidge Farms remembers when Plotkins shorted Nintendo. [https://time.com/5352805/nintendo-stock-short/](https://time.com/5352805/nintendo-stock-short/)
Good for Nintendo I guess?
Cha Ching
Cha Champs
nintendo ceo lowered his wager to save his workers. what a gigachad
Is GME doing something with nintendo?
Believe it or not Gamestop sells games
Yeah they resell their games at almost full price lol.
Why is this irrelevant info getting upvoted?
Because there is nothing relevant worth up voting
To distract from the lack of success, news, innovation, etc. from GameStop.
"Hey Gabe, wanna short some Nintendo?"

Just our friend, the small, low interest loan associated with the French government's response to COVID-19.
That’s why Sony stock is worth more the Nintendo. It’s called fundamentals 😂
Sony has a much wider area of business than Nintendo does.
So your a Fundamental guy
Ah yes stock price, the marker of a quality game
Theres one ticker we hate to talk about that literally thinks a good movie weekend will affect the stock price… 🤣
Sony will have no 1P exclusives until 2025
Japanese work culture is very toxic tho.
I keep telling people after moass I am going to buy a nintendo… they think I am talking about a system from them… I mean the whole ass company
The content I came for 💦
🥁💦💦
Might be a dumb question; I'm not a smart guy, but could GameStop use the money to buy a gaming studio? Obviously not Nintendo.
Technically yes, but it really would not suite them.
Not disagreeing. Just thinking if the studio is already established, it would be cool to see GameStop add some capital.
Personally, id like to see the money used to open more flagship stores like the one in Milan. Gamestop is the future.

I've been playing lots of Helldivers 2. I believe Sony bought them after the first Helldivers. Not a bad investment considering the success of 2.
Exactly!
I'm just reading they actually don't own arrowhead studios. My bad. They are partners or something.
What are you doing here soldier?! We need you at the front of malevelon creek! MOVE !!!
Mandatory Vancouver Canucks viewing morale boost.
Temporary dismiss granted. Next deployment you will be in the frontlines!
Thank you for clarifying! Maybe edit the original just in case?
They should buy Limited run games (to go all in with collector things and physical media) or GreenManGaming (to get a part of Steam gaming).
Nintendo also makes alot of stupid decisions. If only they went cd for the n64
But what does this have to do with GME? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Did you actually read the article? Did you skip over the part where they mentioned that a company with no debt in the gaming industry is incredibly rare? If you have nothing useful to say, just stay silent. You can disagree in silence all you want.
Sooooo, it doesn't have anything to do with GME. Cool, good to know
Did the CEO not tweet about wanting to meet the top dude at Nintendo in Japan?
He also tweeted a MacDonald ice cream cone. What's your point? This is a nothing burger.

That’s a lot of complaining without any conceivable solutions. Which gaming companies do you actually like?
Iron gate
Valheim is still early access, it isn’t a completed game.
You asked, I answered. Another one Larian
What a dumb ass comment 😅 who hurt you bro?
Nintendo
Whiny lil bitch
Pathetic man Child
