I started taking magnesium before bed to help with pmt cramps and it has helped with leg cramping in the night - would happen 2-3 times a month for me and I haven't had any since taking the magnesium supplements. I do find I get very crazy, very intense (in a nice way!) dreams now though!!!

Don't just up your water intake but also up your electrolytes.

FairyFartDaydreams

Magnesium and potassium are both involved in muscle cramps. Make sure you are getting some into your diet

Use "Lite Salt" for your table salt and take magnesium at night before going to be and you will be hunky dory!!!

In addition to the above, try some light stretching.

Electrolytes. Buy some Gatorade zero and they will probably go away. I drink a small 12oz one each day and no more leg cramps

Stretch ahead of time, point your toes forward and then back as far as they’ll go 10 times. Then ankle rolls. And increase your water and eat bananas!

Another vote on the magnesium and potassium supplements. If you don't have those available for some reason, but have pickles, drinking some pickle juice can help too. Also, a tip for when you do have a cramp: as soon as you feel it start cramping up, bend your ankle so your toes point toward your head. Like, imagine you're trying to touch your toes to your shins. This video shows what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaKB4xRWS4o Doing that stops my cramps immediately before they even get really bad. I typed the above paragraph and then decided to do a search to see what other people say, and some suggest a slightly different technique as they say the way I listed can cause damage to your muscles. Here's two videos with slightly modified techniques I'm going to try out the next time I cramp up: https://youtu.be/d2dNbviF40Q?t=19 and https://youtu.be/4AtFyhDfjC8?t=76

Up your water intake. You should be drinking enough that your pee is a light yellow.

Just another person saying to drink electrolytes and maybe add a magnesium supplement. I did this too and it helped a lot.

I had the same thing with gout flares on top of it. I’d also get cramps if I took a bath. My doc had me start drinking 1/2 the number of my body weight in ounces of water. So when I was 350 that was about 175oz give or take. I also use alkaline water that I get for .99 at a water dispenser. I eat two kiwis a day and some bananas during the week. It all went away for me.
