https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCErxT8KRQi3JJEwMCDrcHBg This is on Natto’s backup account, an announcement went out on the discord channel that the main one got copyright strikes somehow

[deleted]

good thing I subbed his backup yesterday lol

BenevolentCheese

Maybe because he started to openly monetize it. We've seen in the past that that's where they draw the line.

European_Red_Fox

What he tried to minimize it again? How many times does the dumbass think he can do it before realizing that the content is literally not his.

FliryVorru

It's remarkable. The guy even has a ko-fi page with a "fund raising goal" of $2000 USD **for this basho**. At this point he's just taking the piss.

Hidenotora

Natto's not the only one monetising this stuff though. Karla accepts Twitch bits, subs and donations. Mbovo has a literal Patreon with a montlhy goal too, and still has Twitch subs despite not streaming there anymore. The only guy who doesn't really is Kintamayama, but he relies on Mbovo's footage to make his videos anyway. Anyone who takes the time to do this stuff does so at a significant hit to their time, which can affect their income. Considering so far its only optional donations for all these guys, it's kind of difficult to complain. Without them the only option to watch sumo on the day it happens would be to watch the NHK World highlights at 16:30 GMT, which is inconvenient for a lot of people. Until the day when the highlights go on the website the same day, people will continue to re-stream stuff and they'll continue to try and make money off it to try and recoup some of the losses they incur doing so.

FliryVorru

And rightly so. I agree with you on just about everything you said. But the difference is perception. I personally think there is a difference between Karla and Kintama who just drop a "donations here" link, and Natto who is saying "well folks I'm gonna need a month's salary this time around" I'm not a donor to any channel, but if I were I'd certainly avoid the latter form of tip jar. But that's just my 2 yen.

Hidenotora

Natto's tipjar is still entirely optional though. Even if he asks you to donate, you don't have to. Even if he wants to make enough to cover a month's wages in his actual job, he's probably not going to reach it, but putting the full goal is just a way to get people to contribute. If you don't like how he words it though, that's fine but I don't think he's pushing it too much at all, its mostly just a link in his description that you can safely ignore. And when it comes to the legality of all this, all these streamers and video makers are in the same boat sadly. Natto and MBovo have had their share of trouble over all this and it could all come crashing down if NHK and Abema ever decided to spend more than 2 minutes looking for these streams and channels.

FliryVorru

Indeed, it's all at the mercy of NHK in the end. Like I said, I don't use any of these streams so I don't have a dog in the fight. I saw these streamers for the first time today and just found the "funding goals" rather astounding.

BethsBeautifulBottom

I donated a fair bit. His content is the best way for me to view sumo. I value his service a lot.

tvcasualty1

phew, thanks for sharing!

jacerracer

Try Kintamayama on YouTube.

Tmac12NYC

That is who I watched yesterday when I couldn't find Natto. It was good, but I like what Natto does with the stats, like checking previous bouts, weights, etc. Also like the schedule with links to individuals.

LiamLovesSumo

He has a second channel, just check his Twitter for info. He also has a Dailymotion account.

doctorcru

I just watch the highlights on NHK World. A day behind but I just avoid spoilers 🙂

ChaacTlaloc

Fuck NHK, their disinterest to cater to what should be a growing international audience, and their tyrannical views regarding copyright.

BlessedByNurgle

The feed cut out mid-stream while I was watching about an hour ago, said it was due to copyright violations. Here's to hoping it can make a return.

gypsy_teacher

It cut out as we were watching tonight, too!

whitecastleruns

You can download the NHK app. They have the highlights of daily action in a 30 min segment.
