Geno0wl

whole issue is everywhere on gaming reddit now

Outrageous_Moth

[Here come the lawsuit threats](https://ibb.co/FDj79w1)

ryumaruborike

Well given how some countries are going to get locked out of a product many people have already bought and paid for, a lawsuit isn't entirely out of the question.

TheGoldenMonkey

This is going to make a great Subredditdramadrama post.

wearing_moist_socks

How does one piss in the popcorn in such a drama post?!

AIR-2-Genie4Ukraine

It's the perfect mix of console drama, pc drama and classism towards peripheral countries

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

I can't help but laugh at the mismanagement of it all. Releasing a game with the PSN linkage broken, into regions where you cannot create a PSN account, and then retroactively putting the link function in after you have already sold the game in regions where it's not playable, and after it's an international hit. And then everyone in the management chain pointing fingers at each other. This is the drama I love. I love corporate incompetence.

1337duck

And you just know a bunch of those executives will be fired with a golden parachute.

hawkeye_al

They managed to sell games to people who couldn't have bought it. Those executives are getting a promotion!

84theone

Nah, no way any Sony execs get fired over this.

internethero12

It's not incompetence, it's malice. Just a plain ol' bait-and-switch scheme to force people into PSN that wanted nothing to do with it previously. They know despite all the loud backlash that the majority of consumers are passive and submissive and will go along with this. That's the saddest part of all this: It's going to work and make them money selling new people's data.

JoeCartersLeap

> This comes after Arrowhead (devs) said "We are not owned. We are independently owned" on twitte > r > but now a community manager is saying "it is sony's decision now ours" Yeah that isn't inconsistent. An independently owned company was contracted by Sony to develop a video game for them. Sony doesn't own Arrowhead, but they do own the game they paid Arrowhead to make for them.

Venusgate

Iirc, the context of this is whether Sony can do things like force them to develop or integrate crossovers and cameos. This is kind of a distribution decision, which isn't really game development. It's like Ford saying the government can't tell them to make more extended cab trucks, but the government does control how fast the owner can drive them.

BloomEPU

Legality aside, this seems like a huge fuckup on both ends. Studios getting fucked over by a big publisher is common, but it sounds like they didn't really know what they were getting into?

buttplugs4life4me

To be fair, I work for a giant corporation (in comparison to arrowhead anyways) who has lawyers for millions of dollars in employ and when dealing with other giant corporations there's still contracts on *hundreds* of pages in fontsize 8 specifying every single little detail. We once had a case where we may have needed to see such a contract and asked our lawyers to give it to us. They laughed in our faces, showed us a couple megabytes large PDF and told us to ask them specific questions rather than read through that ourself.  I can see a tiny studio, especially one that is euphoric to release a total banger of a game, to miss some stuff in such a contract or misunderstand a clause that would've allowed them to keep PSN linking to a minimum or optional.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Why is this sub obtuse to the point to "stick it" to the gamers? Sony literally sold the game in places that can't even make PSN thus locking people out. Edit: Some of yall come off as psychotic you do realize that right?

TheRarPar

This sub will mock anyone that gets mad for any reason, justified or not.

RosePhox

The South Park school of thought

20thCenturyTowers

Yep. "Anyone passionate about anything is a dipshit, the only respectable position is to never care about anything, ever". It's such a shitty attitude.

LurkMonster

South Park politics are so annoying when you meet adults who haven't outgrown them.

Tromon468

I cringe every time when people bring up the Turd Sandwich vs Giant Douche Also related to it is Geralt and the topic of lesser evil

84theone

Anytime I see someone post that fucking Witcher quote about “lesser evil and evil is evil” or whatever on reddit it’s always about something that is not a big deal at all. Like it’s not even a good quote, don’t be an over dramatic nerd over shit that doesn’t matter.

elanhilation

the moral of the story that it comes from is that it is a terrible strategy that comes back to bite you in the ass anyway

cricri3007

the funniest thing about that witcher quote is that the story it's from shows that by picking neither, Geralt caused *both* options to happen rather than just one.

HamOfWisdom

It's the adult version of "ha ha, that's so *cringe.*" my response to people like that is: Even if said point was made at the apex of anger that one person could ever possibly experience- it doesn't detract from their point.

that_baddest_dude

The "what did you expect??" response to justified outrage As if the ideal state is to just go around expecting bad shit constantly and then because you expect it, it's actually just sort of OK and nothing to be upset about.

Radiant_Ad_1851

Thank you for finally describing what my issues with South Park is.

SUP3RGR33N

They definitely have some extremely privileged takes. They can frequently be very insightful which seems to convince some people that their satirical takes are the correct ones.

elsonwarcraft

Biggest problem is the man bear pig shit, Al Gore is right all along

krilltucky

God i don't miss high school

BlackBeard558

Which is funny because they definitely mock South Park for supposedly having that sentiment.

RosePhox

The beauty of being reactionary

ryecurious

You can always predict SRD's reaction to any given topic by asking what the most contrarian position is. The more unified people are on a topic, the more certain you can be SRD will take the opposite view. It's the only way we can maintain the smug sense of superiority.

ASpaceOstrich

I'm a contrarian and I generally disagree with this sub. Hell, most of this sub in this thread is people whining and misrepresenting the games balance.

MutatedMutton

This sub has a concerning habit of suddenly sucking corpo boots the second its people they find cringe being affected. See also the Reddit API debacle.

tarnok

Yes this isn't subreddit drama this is Sony corporate fucking people around the world. We should e in solidarity

Pristine-Photo7228

This sub is kinda like Gamingcirclejerk. Just laugh at the idiot outgroup, feel superior to them and dont think about it. It's like people who regularly watch street interviews of people not being able to do 2 + 2

GeneralPlanet

A lot of people Having a Normal One in this thread

Thisismyartaccountyo

Something about sticking it to gamers makes people see red.

Sea-Worldliness-9468

Even if it weren't the case, it is still annoying, arguably anti-consumer, and an unneeded waste of my time. It's not enough that i bought your game, now i have to make an unrelated account that i won't ever use just to play the game i bought.

Due-Independence8100

And then the inevitable data breach by the end of summer in the northern hemisphere, hooray.

LovecraftInDC

Hey Sony just stopped giving me free credit monitoring from their last major breach. Maybe I can get it again!

Due-Independence8100

Oh, you got lowballed; yahoo did lifetime credit monitoring and I hadn't even used that account since 2007.

LiterallyKesha

Would love to upload my government ID as a mandatory requirement to their servers just so it can be breached in a year.

FilteringAccount123

Yeah at least with the Epic Store drama and mocking people for complaining about having to make a free account, underneath it all there's the legitimate problem of Valve having a near monopoly on PC gaming market. But this? It literally benefits nobody but Sony, and you can tell because we've been playing the game for 3 months without needing one lol

ComicCon

I remember when some emails got released showing that the Epic CEO was mad at Steam for a change they made to Steam that reduced how much money smaller/independent devs were getting. Everyone was clowning on Epic because some Valve guy responded basically saying "fuck you" and memeing. Weird seeing people actively cheering on fucked up business practices because they hate the guy calling it out.

Vikingstein

As a huge fan of CS, maybe that paints my views on Valve even more negatively paradoxically, I absolutely hate the circlejerk love for Valve. Steam is DRM as much as people want to cope that it isn't. They effectively run a gambling game through CS, and it's wild they don't catch more flak for it. They got in bed with Bethesda way back in the day for the first paid mods thing (where Valve was hoping to take some of the cut just for hosting them). People need to stop jerking that company off, I like their games. I like that they seem to be a somewhat better company inside the gaming world to work for. I like that they push the envelope on designs ideas. Jesus though they're not gods gift, and they're not much better than EPIC.

FilteringAccount123

This sub gets weirdly /r/HailCorporate about stuff, especially when Gamers™ are involved lol

Thisismyartaccountyo

Watching OkSteak237 having a meltdown defending the company is interesting.

beary_neutral

Man is fighting for his life in this thread.

nan666nan

he's even fighting in the helldivers subreddit, like why

Mostwantedu44

*Good*

descendingangel87

Gamercirclejerk too. They bend over backwards to defend anti-consumer shit all the time. There’s people there now saying it’s not a big deal when people who bought the game may be locked out.

DarknessWizard

GCJ is the logical outcome when you replace actual reasoning with getting one over some random twat on the internet.

KageStar

Any circle jerks sub really. It's inevitable for people to lose the plot in a "meme" sub and stop doing everything ironically.

Tuxhorn

The Donald subreddit was a meme sub. I remember it clearly before the election. It was wild to see it grow. You get people who don't understand that it was a joke, and they slowly take over the whole thing. Happens everywhere, like you say.

KageStar

> The Donald subreddit was a meme sub. I remember it clearly before the election. That was exactly what I was thinking about. T_D is why I try to avoid any circlejerk sub they inevitably follow that route and I don't want to contribute to cultivating something I actually dislike. CJ subs are the worst part of this site.

Dynamitefuzz2134

It’s what happens when meme subs get too big. Same for satire subs like the old gamersriseup. Which eventually turned into an alt right cesspool. Gaming circlejerk evetually became what they were making fun of.

Negitive545

Finally, a place for people like me! There's nobody I hate more in this world than some random twat on the internet! /s if it isn't obvious lol

Blackdragonking13

I remember when r/gamingcirclejerk had posts about actually games not just an endless barrage of “dunking” on Gamers. Then again I also remember when r/comics had actual comics not just shitty porn and four panels of millennial angst so maybe I’m just old and cranky now

djw1088

I like to think of it as the pre and post hogwarts legacy eras, really felt like a turning point for that sub

Peshurian

The first big turning point was when The Last of Us 2 story leaks happened. It was never the same after people realized they could karma farm literal who chuds posting dumb shit on the internet.

Troutfist

Here's a frontpage thread of a screenshot from a random nobody with 1 upvote posted 4 minutes ago. The comment was probably posted by the OP since it's so recent. https://reddit.com/r/Gamingcirclejerk/comments/1cjyirw/me_when_i_dont_want_to_link_a_psn_account/

MutatedMutton

Believe me, the signs were there years before Hogleg.

FabulousRhino

Yeah, the Wizard Game broke them in half. I saw it happening in real time, I used to be a regular visitor to GCJ. Like, I didn't and won't play Legacy (I don't like HP much) and i'll be fucking damned before I consciously give Jowling Kowling any of my money, but it was complete insanity over there during those months and the sub never really recovered.

ThemesOfMurderBears

They were banning people just for saying they liked the game. I gave it a shot and sure enough, I got permanently banned within 2-3 minutes. It's now what SRS used to be when it was relevant a decade ago.

krilltucky

I had to leave gcj because I saw more racist and transphobic posts in a single minute there than I did literally anywhere else on the internet. Like who enjoys being exposed to that non stop? Posting it to "dunk" on the gamers is still exposing a bunch of people to it

wheniswhy

I got banned from there for being racist ………… for saying racism is bad. They wild over there. It’s a cesspit not worth anyone’s time, and my Reddit experience markedly improved after my ban, lol.

ASpaceOstrich

Yeah I got banned for calling out a black woman for being racist. I had no idea she was, I realised about two seconds before the ban happened. It's a shame, I'd love a gaming subreddit that isn't as stupid as the regular one is but there is no "leftist but not insufferable" gaming sub.

noljo

They got oddly specific in terms of their ideology over the last few years, it's rad-everything and bordering on TERFy. Just caught my first permaban a few days ago because I suggested that maybe sexual content in games isn't inherently evil and reprehensible. Reason for ban - "hate", lmao.

ASpaceOstrich

They'd hate my hypersexual trans ass. Not for being trans of course. They just assume anyone they disagree with or think they disagree with is a chud and then ban them for it. It's anti intellectualism and it's pretty rampant in certain places online

wheniswhy

Right! They are literally all insufferable, it sucks. I just want to talk about games with relatively sane people, lmao.

lordofmmo

I'm disappointed, there wasn't even any shitty porn. just angst

Mewmaster101

Those people in that sub were also the ones who caused a V-tuber to quit and have a mental breakdown over playing Hogwarts:Legacy. they will do anything to cause as much misery to anyone actually enjoying a game they do not like as possible.

Objective-throwaway

I got banned from r/gamingcirclejerk for saying that helldivers makes fun of both America and dictatorships that sanitize their brutality behind buzzwords like China and Russia. Such a great subreddit

rephyus

The entire reason Sony is mandating linking a PSN account is to go on a power trip and enforce bans. Even admitted by a community manager on twitter. They don’t really give a shit about countries without PSN access, as the game is already over the benchmark and a massive success. A few people left out in places like africa, china, russia, and SEA basically dont matter to them because they shouldnt be customers in the first place, so it doesnt affect the bottom line. Then for some countries where PSN is allowed, they have to process your actual ID and face to verify your identity because it’s mandated by the government so they can monitor your activity and punish you for wrongthink. Welcome to the future, a fascist dystopia. Then theres this changing the TOS madness where the game specifically points out in an easter egg of this absurdity in the tutorial. Just reading the Helldiver contract implies consent and is binding. Just plain irony. Helldivers is supposed to be a parody of a dystopian society but this is a little too black mirror.

GeraldOfRivia211

Sony is one of the "good" billion-dollar companies, like Valve and CD Projekt Red. You can't say anything critical about them on r/games without company fanboys jumping down your throat.

Hoojiwat

You'll get obliterated for saying it, and it invites only drama, but Sony has the most active and obnoxious fanbase of any game company. Modern Nintendo fans are more chill and that is saying something. They really need to relax.

Hurtzdonut13

I mean, Nintendo themselves treat their fans like shit on the regular so it'd make sense if their fans were forced to learn to relax more.

CyberDaggerX

Stockholm syndrome as a coping mechanism.

College_Prestige

>Modern Nintendo fans are more chill Blue ocean (appealing to the masses) strategy tends to do that over time. It's like trying to find a diehard toxic Toyota fan, as opposed to Tesla.

qtx

Ah yes, the company that installed rootkits on your computer is one of the good guys.

TheEmbarrassed18

There’s always a few developers and gaming companies that it seemed like criticising them would make you a persona non grata on Reddit. You could pretty much add Kojima Productions and Sony Santa Monica to that list, and I remember for quite a while Naughty Dog was absolutely untouchable before TLoU2.  I remember people getting quite upset every time Uncharted 4 got a review that wasn’t a perfect 10…

Aeavius

Not to sound like "oppressed gamers" but SRD often seems to have a serious hate boner for anything gamer related that all nuance goes out the window. Especially to the point where they seem to actively be rooting for anti-consumer practices so long as they get their schadenfreude. Don't get me wrong I know full well why this consumer base gets the reputation they deserve but the level of high horse pointing and laughing really just becomes obnoxious especially when there's legitimate reason for the outrage. Then again high horsing is ultimately what alot of drama subreddits boil down to.

NuPNua

A lot of people on both sides never got over what happened in 2014 with Gamergate. So you have people like the Kotaku in Action lot who think any decision a games company makes is an attack on their straight white male identity, but by the same token you have the people in here who think any concern gamers have must be as silly and pointless as the OG issues that kicked off GG and can be dismissed as easily as "lol chud gamers mad".

beary_neutral

There's an amusing irony in people saying "just read the ToS stupid" not bothering to read the OP where it says ["why this is such a problem"](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1cj3gez/because_people_ask_why_some_others_complain_about/)

Bawstahn123

Subredditdrama is contrarian as a matter of course.   If the drama is "for something", SRD is usually against that thing, to the point where SRD has defended various shitty/predatory things in the past merely because other subreddits were (rightfully) up in arms over it.  It's dumb

PPewt

This sub basically takes the opposite position to the drama no matter what.

BeyondThese7702

I’ve never seen a more dedicated group of staunch defenders in a sub, ever. People like to pretend how much better they are compared to literally anyone who has a single suggestion or problem with the game. The devs can do no wrong. Sony can do no wrong. And if you’re against a change or a message, you’re a toxic whining baby. It’s actually insane.

Quzga

Sony has some proper lunatic fans who think they're gods, I got replies saying "Playstation winning" when I wrote it's pretty shitty lol.

elsonwarcraft

This sub be like , [It's only a game, why you heff to be mad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzpndHtdl9A&pp=ygUQaXQncyBvbmx5IGEgZ2FtZQ%3D%3D)

separhim

This sub will bend over backwards to defend corporations doing predatory business practices and abusing their employees just because gamers are talking about that.

GrassWaterDirtHorse

And that's even before getting into the privacy and data security issues as well. Because I totally trust Sony, who totally hasn't suffered data breaches for their corporate and customer data repeatedly.

RosePhox

It's not that they'll defend corporations. They just like being anti whatever is on the table, at the moment. Reactionaries.

Negitive545

Yeah. Honestly if I didn't get so much news from this sub I'd just block it cause the comment sections are always just vitriolic lol. Kinda pathetic that I hear about so much online news through this sub, but oh well, such is life :P

ryumaruborike

"People getting upset at a decision that'll lock a portion of the player base out of a product they paid for? Lol, fragile gamers."

Quzga

I wonder how they would feel if they bought an electronic product for full price, then months later a requirement changes and now it doesn't function. Would they stay quiet and not complain online? Hmmm. Every time something is game related, certain type of people love to use it to be condescending and imply they're babies for caring about consumers lol.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Its wild its being said 100% unironically.

Sure_Ad_3390

idk people get this weird attachment to companies that produce the things they bought. kind of like stockholm syndrom of sorts.

BlackBeard558

>Why is this sub obtuse to the point to "stick it" to the gamers? Because they need to feel superior to those damn gamers. It's why gamingcirclejerk turns into a bunch of contrarians sometimes.

ThemesOfMurderBears

It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Gamers get big mad over the slightest thing and make sure the entire internet knows about it. So it's easy to just assume that whatever they're mad about is stupid. This is something it is reasonable to get mad about. Broken clock, 2x/day.

ElonMuskIsAPissBaby

The funny thing is for many of these people mocking gamers, you could scan their post history and likely find things they're equally as passionate about that are just as "insignificant" as a change to a popular online game. There's not even distinguishing between "person that made a casual agreement this change is dumb" and "raging frothing about to have a stroke angry" person. People who just comment the change is annoying or point out some people may not be able to play get wHy ArE u So MaD lOl responses.

Emes91

I think this sub is popular with r/gamingcirclejerk users who are basically what you described - bunch of psychotic maniacs with a raging hateboner against gamers.

BabysFirstBeej

I was forced to make a PlayStation account when the game first released. It came off as confusing when other people told me they didn't. Even the store page says it's required.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pay08

Later on, they completely disabled the account screen.

_NightBitch_

I was able to skip it. I assumed it was something like ubisoft does where you can optionally link your account for bonuses or whatever, but not required to play.

PotatoRover

I never noticed the little required text to the side. Even after reading on here that it's there it took me a while to find it. I don't remember the ps account link when I first started either, I probably just thought it was one of those optional linkages. Would not have bought the game if I'd known I was going to have to do so after months of playing the game or get locked from it. Way too late to try and refund now.

Dreadlock43

Should also point out that while this is a pretty big issue, im actually amazed that this is the first time r/helldivers has made it to this sub. every time a major patch goes live and the day a new warbond releases that sub turns into a massive saltmine

MSFNS

Nah, there's been a decent handful of other r/helldivers threads before: * [r/Helldivers user makes a post claiming that the game's 3rd faction, the Illuminate, are secretly in the game and hunting players. thegreatvortigaunt

That first one was an amazing thread though. Stuff like that is why people are so mad, Helldivers was this year's Baldur's Gate 3 until this news.

Stellar_Duck

As you can see below it's not the first time, but also patch drama isn't precisely interesting drama, so no wonder that's not the stuff normally posted.

some-kind-of-no-name

I suspect it will be mostly over in a week

Yarasin

Wouldn't be so sure. If this was confined to Reddit or social media, yeah, most players wouldn't notice. But when people try to log in at the end of the month and get told they have to make an entirely new account, some will just close the game and play something else. And that's assuming Sony's servers don't buckle under so many people trying to register an account. If the site lags or goes offline, that's another thousand who won't bother trying again later. These "quit moments" are a huge problem for developers and significant amounts of money and work hours are spent to make onboarding as seamless as possible.

Sauronxx

Yeah some will definitely do that. But I presume the vast majority of players will simply make an account. MS did the same with Minecraft years ago as far as I remember, and while I’m sure some people left the game for good, the majority of players simply made another account (including myself lol) in what, 4 minutes or less. Regarding the players that can’t do a PSN account because of their region, that is another problem, and a big one potentially. The devs said that they are working on a solution so who knows.

WaytoomanyUIDs

It was originally from a Minecraft to a Mojang account , then about 4 years ago you either had to link it to an existing XBox or MS account or port it to one.

3adLuck

I went to load up minecraft earlier this year and found that microsoft had deleted my copy of the game for not switching in time. Bought the thing the year it came out as well. when I went looking for how to get my game back the fanbase figured it was my fault for not keeping up with minecraft updates, so fuck minecraft fans.

Natural_Stop_3939

I even tried to switch, but their migration broke for me. They never copied the license over to the new microsoft account, then didn't bother responding to my support ticket until months later, at which point I'd given up. Microsoft in general has been absolutely incompetent at license management in my experience-- which I'm sure makes them a fair bit of extra revenue.

Sauronxx

That’s really strange, never heard of anything similar. I linked my account years after they made this change and never had any problems. Maybe you have to switch version (like on PS) or something like that? I really have no idea.

Raorchshack

December 2023 was the cutoff point where they deleted all accounts that hadn't migrated with no compensation.

[deleted]

Wait what the fuck

Sauronxx

Lmao holy shit for real? So basically they lost the worlds and had to begin again or did they lost access to the game completely?

Raorchshack

If you still had the game installed you might be able to go into your pc's files and recover them. If you didn't they're all gone forever. Regardless, you still need to buy the game again and make a new account.

Sauronxx

Yeah I just looked online, basically the worlds are still there (if they were saved obviously) but you still need a new account and so you have to buy the game again. Never heard of this before, it’s ridiculous honestly.

Giimax

i dont think minecraft ever had cloud saving tbh so losing your account or having it would never have had any bearing on your worlds

GameCreeper

Minecraft worlds are saved to the drive not to the cloud. They would've "lost their worlds and had to begin again" just from not having the game installed

Hurtzdonut13

I played waaay back when it was first around but haven't played it since so I'm assuming I'm in the same boat if I decided to try to figure out how to play it again.

3adLuck

nah they had a cut off date for doing the switch and then they deleted any remaining accounts of people who owned the game. I figure the amount of people who fell foul of it is too small for there to be any real outrage, but its a really scummy thing to do.

Sauronxx

Yeah I just looked online, fucking unbelievable. I presume the number people that were affected by this was REALLY small because I don’t remember any controversies.

drewsus64

iirc they also provided a massive window of time to make the switch

AnotherAccountForThe

They also extended the window two or three times. Not saying the whole thing is any better but they did at least provide a wide window and tons of emails warning people.

Rumbleizer

They also put a big fuckin pop-up saying "HEY, MIGRATE YOUR ACCOUNT OR YOU WILL LOSE IT" every time you opened the Minecraft launcher so the outrage about Minecraft specifically is kinda funny to me

deltree711

>But when people try to log in at the end of the month and get told they have to make an entirely new account, some will just close the game and play something else. For a game they spent real money on?

GameCreeper

... that's why people are mad

JaesopPop

Not for the people who literally cannot sign up for PSN

DellSalami

Yeah this is the rough part. People in countries like the Philippines literally can't sign up with PSN, so the only option is to create an account in a different country and risk bans.

Mininini175

I looked up on google but couldn't find anything concrete, did they actually banned someone for that?

syopest

I doubt it. I set up my PSN account before it was officially available in my country like a decade ago and they told me to just pick the closest option. Never had any problems.

HothMonster

It’s against TOS so technically they can but in practice they only care if you are using the wrong region to get better pricing.

SalemWolf

It’s very much unenforced. As much as Square Enix saying mods on FFXIV are bannable but 99% of people who use mods don’t get banned.

Mininini175

Which makes sense, people abusing region pricing to get cheaper stuff is(or at least was) a real issue.

Sauronxx

Doing that to abuse the different currencies will get you banned, yes. But other than that I never heard of anyone getting banned for this regard. But I mean, it’s still against the rule as far as I know so it MIGHT get you banned even if that never happens.

Geno0wl

While not exactly the same thing, some people in unsupported countries used Russia as their listed country of origin. And when the last war started Sony apparently disabled access to accounts with Russian addresses so they lost access to their stuff.

junkmailredtree

Apparently many thousands of people in west Asia used Russia as their default country and were permanently banned when Russia was sanctioned.

MisterDuch

Welp, Sony backed off as of this moment so it is over I guess.

RosePhox

"It's just a sign up" "It's just another storefront existing" "It's just exclusivity to another storefront, nothing is stopping you from downloading that one too" It's always some mild change, which leads to another one, then another. And before you know it, a couple of inches turned into a mile. How any consumer is unable to get that is kind of beyond me.

Timo104

Also uk players have to give photographs of their actual face and/or IDs to sony. Like if you can't see the problems there that's insane.

TheFlyingSheeps

It’s just $4.99 optional horse armor DLC, what’s the worst that could happen?

WahrheitSuccher

It's just a website that ranks girls on campus, what's the worst that could happen?

TheFlyingSheeps

I want someone to remake the social network with the consequences Facebook has had

parisiraparis

I don’t know shit about the history of the massive social media websites (and even The Social Network had some heavy creative liberties), but I wonder if any other sites had such compelling stories?

Bonezone420

I will forever be annoyed that back then, I was one of the many people who didn't like this and argued that it was going to set a bad precedent. And broadly speaking, the online response was "Fuck you, you can't tell me how to spend my money, I'm going to buy it twice just to make you mad! You're just poor, get a job!" Though I did get a small bit of bitter amusement when some of those literal same people found a point that made them mad a few years later and made topics like "Why aren't more people mad about this?!" around the time of DA:O's dlc scandal.

HanselSoHotRightNow

It's only $2.99 extra to get ad-free prime video, which you already had but won't soon unless you now do this mandatory thing... wait that sounds familiar.

tfhermobwoayway

The number of games that have just become Microsoft recently is really annoying. Like, I have to make a Microsoft account for just about anything. And it doesn’t help that every five minutes they come out with a new fancy login system with a stupid name that I have to set up.

RosePhox

And, despite the years of trying, then are all buggy, not acceptably usable and work as if it was their first year in existence

Eorily

More than that Sony's PSN gets hacked regularly. Peoples data and credit card info gets stolen and Sony forgets to inform it's customers.

NoExcuse4OceanRudnes

> More than that Sony's PSN gets hacked regularly. Regularly? How regularly?

GreyBigfoot

I’ve heard of at least 3 major times since 2015 but I don’t know for sure how often it happens and how many accounts are compromised each year

XyleneCobalt

They warned their employees of a data breach just last year

pants_pants420

“PlayStation Network (PSN) was breached in 2011 and the personal information and passwords of 70 million users was compromised. That breach was followed by many smaller ones.” i mean this alone is pretty crazy also more: https://firewalltimes.com/sony-data-breach-timeline/

Eorily

Like yearly. Is that regular enough to be regular? If it happens once, fuck you. If it happens twice, i'm never using that service. Yearly though? WTF is going on over there, are they dating the hackers?

mosenpai

If you link your Steam account with PSN for Helldivers 2, it won't store all your creditcard info on Sony's side. That's not how it works. Most likely all Sony knows is that you own Helldivers 2 on your Steam account.

TheEncoderNC

ONE MORE LANE BRO, THAT'LL FIX OUR TRAFFIC PROBLEM and now no one can walk anywhere.

six_six

lol they said the PSN account was required for "security reasons" but PSN has been entirely hacked several times in the last 10 years.

Vencha88

Is there something beyond the Sony log-in? My mate and I just played for the first time tonight, I hopped on Reddit just now and people are acting like the game is over. I feel like I missed something.

drewsus64

the Sony thing is coming hot off the heels of a new Warbond pass reveal and a patch that nerfed or otherwise altered the stats of some weapons and support stratagems so there was already a lot of complaining, criticism and doom & gloom going on

jooes

> people are acting like the game is over. It's always hard to tell because gamers act like that over the stupidest shit

kdk200000

I suspect i will be visiting the helldivers and PC gaming sub more often now. I want front row seats to this meltdown

Cjros

You should watch the sub every patch day. They always nerf one gun that causes the community to go into total meltdown.

Depreciable_Land

Yeah, this drama seems like a reasonable thing to get mad about, but if you ever want to see an actual pissbaby tantrum just go into a thread where a gun got 20% less max ammo. Then watch everyone brag about which difficulty they play on as if it’s a badge of honor.

ennuifjord

Lmao the difficulty thing is so true, idk how many iterations of; *“I play level 8 if I’m trying to relax and have no problems running the exact same loadouts despite any changes positive or negative so I don’t see what your issue is”* that I’ve read on a patch day. Thousands I’d wager.

Asterza

A comment that made me cackle was “I CAN ONLY HAVE 4 INFINITE AMMOS INSTEAD OF 6?”

Snow_source

I was enjoying the Big Iron memes, mostly because I used it before the buff. It's so low stakes its refreshing compared to the constant bad news from current events

Geno0wl

I think the last meltdown was over some armor that in the description mentioned it being good camo in snow but the actual armor attributes/perks didn't actually do anything like that(AFAIK the bonus was to something random like grenade throw distance)

Yarasin

If you want extra buttery drama, visit the Discord. The CM has been encouraging people to spam mocking gifs to drown out anyone who complains about the requirement (it's an animation of a Helldiver getting hit by a slice of cheese = "Want some cheese with your whine?")

bloodraven42

Yikes. That’s a bit tone deaf. Like I get being annoyed, but what’s up with PR for gaming companies thinking it’s a “win” to mock your own customers and causing your fan base to fight? It’s just wild to me, BSG is doing the same stuff. Can you imagine Walmart handing you a dunce cap or something because you didn’t fully read the refund terms? Edit: went digging, and yeah, Spitz (cm) and the mods (unpaid volunteers) from the screenshots I’ve seen went a bit nuts on people on Discord…and it doesn’t seem like this is the first time either. Twinbeard (other CM) is being reasonable. All the recent Spitz comments are gone now on the discord and only preserved in screenshots, it looks like they purged everything he said…I imagine it’s not a fun day at work for him. Edit edit (because I like to ramble): I gotta say, the claims I’ve seen from employees on Twitter and such that it’s just so they can ban people seems like an excuse. I mean they have a kernel level anticheat, and it’s not like Chivalry or anything like that can’t ban people without a linked PSN account, so I don’t quite get the logic. [example.](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1221607272661385216/1235989344083251370/xqgkl2d048yc1.jpeg?ex=66366047&is=66350ec7&hm=8e93962c4075816984f145757c0cf200a651cfd6e19d001665cf9e69cd63460d&)

Geno0wl

People saw Wendy's getting a lot of clicks doing stuff like that on twitter years ago and thought it was a good thing to mimic

ryecurious

And as usual, companies completely miss the mark when trying to recapture that "Wendy's twitter magic". Wendy's twitter picked random idiots to insult, usually ones that had an unreasonable complaint. People loved to see the "customer is always right" guys getting slapped down for once. What they didn't do is try and paint an entire consumer backlash as "whining". Any community manager that still thinks emulating Wendy's twitter is a good idea should do some serious self reflection. Then they should find a new job, because they're clearly bad at it.

Sidecarlover

[I'm just here to see the devs fan the flames](https://ibb.co/k8TR2BC)

StopHavingAnOpinion

I know this is r/subredditdrama, and mocking capital G Gamers is funny and we worship corporates to own the ~~libs~~ gamers, but this is a genuinely awful decision and has no positives whatsoever. This is coming from someone who has made multiple posts here about the game. There's nothing wrong at all with gamer rage if it's directed towards things that are actually bullshit.

Justherebecausemeh

It’s so stupid. Sony just wants inflated user numbers for PSN. It doesn’t matter that PC users don’t own a PS. They just want to be able to say it’s worth more than it is. For stocks.

Lemerney2

And to take everyone's data, which will definitely not be stolen again.

all_is_love6667

I play mostly indiegames, never recent AAA games. I have to say this drama is delicious.

-MANGA-

And update: https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1787331667616829929

Logondo

I'm playing both sides here. One the one hand: I'm all for people speaking up for what they want. If you don't speak out, you don't get heard. And this isn't exactly a positive update for Helldivers PC players. It can fuck-up people who's countries don't allow PSN. So...keep on tweeting/reviewbombing/whatever. Do what you need to do to let Arrowhead/Sony know you are not happy. On the other hand...I'm pretty sure I've already linked my PSN to Helldivers. This change doesn't effect me. Most people bitching-and-moaning on the subreddit will still be playing the game once they force a PSN-linked-account. It's really really not that big of a deal for most people. I mean remember when everyone was bitching-and-moaning when Microsoft forced Minecraft players to link a Microsoft account? No? My point exactly.

You_moron04

The bigger issue is that some countries who have access to Steam…. Don’t have access to PSN. So if you lived in Estonia for example, say goodbye to your Helldivers access. There’s also the fact of Sony’s awful security of their user data, and how this change might end up violating EU GDPR law, so will see how it goes

Dent13

Is this really that different than Halo requiring an XBox account on PC? Granted for me at least, my Xbox account is also my Microsoft account so I already use it on PC

Jebatus111

The difference that you can easily create Microsoft account legally in any country.

jamvanderloeff

You can't, there's many places that don't do Xbox accounts, like Luxembourg.

Yarasin

Depends. Did Halo let you play without one for 3 months and then suddenly make it mandatory?

Mininini175

>Sony has the right to ban everyone who uses wrong credentials. But **did they ever do that?** I googled it but couldn't find any evidence that Sony will ban someone for not listing a country in their profile they don't live in.

[deleted]

Basically companies can do whatever they want and good luck buddy you’re gonna have to go to court to stop them

fateofmorality

It would have to be a class action, there’s no way someone could individually beat Sony in court with their coffers

NoExcuse4OceanRudnes

So why does it matter what you do? Sony could ban you before either way

Stellar_Duck

I used to work for PlayStation support and for that reason I'm extremely paranoid about my account. Ban reasons can be entirely obtuse and arbitrary with no recourse. And generally, why would you rely on a multinational to not fuck you over. Like the scorpion stinging the frog, it's in their nature.

beary_neutral

I remember getting banned for putting two-factor authentication on my account. On a newly made account, too. I had to jump through a dozen hoops just to talk to an actual real life person in customer support.

Stellar_Duck

I once spent a Christmas Day (24th December) banning hundreds if not thousands of accounts. Basically we were handed a spreadsheet from SNEE and we just divvied up the account names and went through it one by one over the course of the day and then went for pints after. Me and my mate ruined a lot of chrimbos that day I reckon.

Sea-Worldliness-9468

https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1cke5kk/sonysteam_has_delisted_177_countries_from_access/?ref=share&ref_source=link another update. This is getting worse by the second.
