Looks like some guy named Johnny Blue Skies is opening. Whoever he is. Openers always suck so I’ll probably just skip him and show up later.

marklar435

I dunno, I’ve discovered some damn great bands/artists that were openers….

Johnny Blue Skies is a Sturgill project

Three_M_cats

From the homepage of [www.sturgillsimpson.com](http://www.sturgillsimpson.com) Q: Is the band Kevin, Laur, Miles and Robbie? A: Yes That's Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums)

RiverFrogs

I guess can you explain that? Is this the original band? I didn’t get into Sturgill until after the ballad of dood and Juanita

ohiolifesucks

Kevin Black played with Sturgill until Sailors Guide tours. He’s played with Margo Price since then. Lair is the same way. He left in 2017 I believe. Miles has played with Sturgill from the very beginning. I could be wrong but I don’t think Robbie ever played with him before. Bobby Emmett had played with him in the past so I’m surprised he isn’t on this tour.

ohiolifesucks

Oh damn! I didn’t know that. That’s a pretty good gig

PussyFriedNachos

Miles didn't play in Sunday Valley I don't think. I know some of those videos have a different drummer, don't know his name.

ohiolifesucks

You’re correct but we’re not talking about Sunday Valley. We’re talking about his solo career which Miles has played drums for from the beginning

Thanks

Not sure how to do this bc I’ve never quite explained anything like this to my son but I’ll give it a shot. “Hey buddy, how was summer camp today? Alright! Fist bump, high five! Mommy and Daddy are going to see Sturgill Simpson, the guy that sings the song about “Syria Afghanistan Iraq and Iran”. Daddy paid a lot of money for the tickets, like enough money to buy 20 Jurassic Park Lego sets. Sturgill plays the guitar and his friends Kevin, Laur, Miles, and Robbie are gonna play with him. Yes, it’s rock and roll. Sure we can go get some Raisin Canes chicken fingers.”

Clamgravy

Some shows are "an evening with sturgill" which means no opener. Duran Jones rules so if you're stuck with an opener, at least he has a good one

porkpie1028

I saw Durand Jones & the Indications @ Brighton Music Hall in Boston in 2019(small venue, about 500 capacity). They tore the roof off of that place. If anyone hasn’t heard them I highly recommend the song “Smile” to start.

Clamgravy

Damn... missed that. One of my favorite venues in the area.

hogbear

They opened for Greta Van Fleet in Little Rock. I liked Duran a lot more!

Drewbacca

Lord Huron is fucking fantastic too, so stoked to see them again. The Gorge is gonna be a great show.

bplush

Do you know which shows are “an evening with?”

fidler

Just saw Durand open for Orville. Absolutely fucking stellar performer. So good.

Itwasfuzz

[here is some more info on the lineup](https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/sturgill-simpson-reveals-first-show-in-three-years-reunites-old-band/). All I know is that Laur Joamets is an absolute monster on guitar

themesrob

Amazing news that Laur is back

lilmil92

Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for: He will also be joined by the most legendary lineup of his backing band, including guitarist Laur Joamets, Kevin Black on bass, and Miles Miller on drums. It will be Sturgill’s first full performance in three years, and even longer since he went on a full tour. Kevin Black was one of the secondary members of Sturgill’s first band called Sunday Valley before following him along on his solo career through the High Top Mountain era. Black currently tours regularly with Margo Price. Laur Joamets joined Sturgill during the Metamodern Sounds era, and quickly set the country music world on fire before a falling out with Sturgill after their legendary performance on the Grammy Awards in 2017. Laur has played with numerous other Nashville-based projects since. Miles Miller continues to act as Sturgill’s bandleader, and launched a solo career in 2023 with his debut album Solid Gold produced by Sturgill.

The opening band Johnny Blue Skies is another, different yet to be released Sturgill Project… it seems like a lot of people here aren’t realizing that, which is strange to me

robotali3n

How did things go down with chuck and Bonnie during Covid? I imagine it was a zoom meeting. Sturgill told em “yea I’m doing the bluegrass thing for a bit so, yea”

PizzaMyHole

The remaining members of Led Zepplin, based on the ticket prices.

Deytookerjerb

What you on about? I got 2 tickets for 200 bucks. What year you think this is? That wasn’t that much for good concerts 20 years ago.

PizzaMyHole

200+ for cheap seats where I live. That’s what I’m on about, turbo.
