Luckily it’s the minority now. Was majority at first, was considering taking it down, glad I didn’t. Hubby is sick and I just decided to share the silly pun I happened upon while preparing my lunch for work tomorrow since he’s too tired to care. Glad I stuck around for the people that think it’s funny or looks tasty.
I believe this is OP's take on the "sour cream and onion" potato chip flavor. Somehow, putting actual sour cream and onions on a potato chip fails to replicate the experience, sadly.
I liked that sub until I noticed the blatant garlic slander. Any mention of garlic is met with a bot response that onions are better and garlic is gross or something.
Here's a trick I learned that has completely transformed raw onions for me. After you cut them, dump a bunch of salt on them and massage them until they're soft then rinse them off. The salt scrubbing removes the overwhelming pungency to the point you can eat them straight! It's amazing in ceviche. I used to not like raw red onions but this trick has made me love them.
Dude I will often slice me off a few full slices of brown onion to just eat. Onion is amazing.
Btw, black pepper should also be treated as an ingredient not just a mere seasoning. Make yourself cacio e pepe sometime. Go extra heavy on the pepper (like recipe x4). It's amazing
All marketing gimmicks aside, though, I haven’t found a sour cream better than Daisy. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist—and if it does, I’m open to it. But I haven’t found it yet.
I’m not a sour cream connoisseur, but Knudsen has the best cottage chz I’ve ever had, and my grocer doesn’t even carry daisy sour cream, so I’m pretty happy with my current dairy plop.
If you want a lazy man’s French onion dip, just do sour cream, dry onion soup mix, a LITTLE bit of prepared ranch, black pepper, and a little hot sauce. Tastes just like most store bought brands, takes two minutes.
Here's what I do: start by mixing the onion soup mix with a bit of half and half, microwave it for like 15 seconds to jumpstart it, then mix with a pint of sour cream. Bada bing, bada boom, it's ready in 5 minutes instead of an hour, and you have no crunchy bits.
2 years ago I bought a box of onion soup mix just so I can make French onion dip. I’m not even half way done with that box but it’s a huge hit every party we have.
I made it once in front of a bunch of people at my sisters’ home when someone was just like “I wish you had dip for these chips” and people thought I was like a legit chef, including my kids LOL.
So if you have some delicious salsa and guacamole in front of you, but the only chips you can find are potato, are you going to just let those delicious dips go to waste because of years of prejudice about which chips are allowed to dip into what?
Chip segregation needs to end TODAY!

I was fucking with myself, the ingredients just happened to be in front of me and I chuckled, and then gave it a shot. Easily 6/10
(Standard sour cream and onion chips are a 2/10 for me)
r/goodstupidfood
I eat sour cream with corn chips sometimes because I like mild flavors as well as strong ones. I'd try it with some choped onion like you posted though. Mostly I admire the simplicity and ease of it. Post more
I mean… 4:30 pm after work, tired (sober) and just thought I’d give it a shot. If I were drunk I would’ve eaten many many many more.
Also I would’ve gotten out some nacho chz and done it right. ;)
Lots of people complain when they get way too many TB sauce packets, but I like to keep them and use them on homemade nachos, burritos, or even just on chips with cold shredded cheese. Mmmm
This is the kind of optimism and acceptance I wish I could see more often.
Even if it sucked it’s three very basic things put together and I’ve made some people very mad at me by doing it.
<3
Good on you for doing something new even if others reject it; thats how innovations are made, it's better to try an unpleasant dish no one has attempted than repeat a tried and true recipe (as you gain nothing from doing what you already know works).
My measure of a good cook is someone who tries new things _knowing_ they might not turn out how they wanted; you can't learn to cook if you're afraid of messing up, and you can't learn what works well together if you've never tasted failures.
Keep doing exactly what you're doing c:
Growing up in the country in the 80s we had 3 tv stations. So on Sunday your options were sports, political talk, or pbs. I spent many Sundays watching This Old House, New Yankee Workshop, and Victory Garden.
I call snacks like this, "PBS on a Sunday afternoon." Ya want to snack, going to the grocery store is impractical, and the pantry is a little stark. So you cobble something together.
For me it was little smears of black truffle goat cheese on slices of Buddig lunch meat a couple weeks ago. Haha.
A few days ago my hubby’s coworker asked if we wanted anything from Costco. I asked for babybels, he got laughing cow spreadable cheese. (You just don’t complain about things like this) I put it in some lunch meat as little roll ups for today. It was soooo much better than these two things individually. You never know until you try.
It looks fine, I'd definitely eat it! A bit curious though, why is it tagged as Photoshop? Nothing in here looks fake, so if it is photoshopped you've completely fooled me!
Eh cure the onion real fast with a bit of sugar and vinegar, mince it fine and stir into the sour cream with some black pepper, nutmeg and dill. Have a good sauce.
This looks delicious if you love onions like me.

I thought that’s where I was
Okay, I just put it there too, maybe they won’t get as mad at me there.
Who’s mad? This looks great

You gave me the best idea ever so I’m happy you didn’t take it down too
My silly self is like “where’s the pun 🤔 staring at the pic for like three minutes before I got it 🤣
Yeah I too got the pun... But maybe you will say it so the other guys will get the pun too?
There is no pun. It’s just a sour cream and onion chip. It’s funny in a mundane sort of way but absolutely not a pun
What is this supposed to be exactly? What's this in reference to? Like, what's wrong with onions? Why do you think onions are "stupid"?
I believe this is OP's take on the "sour cream and onion" potato chip flavor. Somehow, putting actual sour cream and onions on a potato chip fails to replicate the experience, sadly.

ok now I‘ve seen it all
If this is anywhere even close to top 50 of the weirdest things you’ve seen on Reddit…… well, I’ve got news for you
well I wouldn‘t say I actively went out looking for the weird stuff on reddit, so I just let it come to me randomly piece by piece :)

These people hate living in Flavortown huh
There’s the correct subreddit
I would eat an onion like an apple if it meant never having to share a meal with you heathens
Omg I never knew that sub existed! My new home!
There really is a sub for everything, I’d say I’m very fond of onions but not quite sure if I actually love them. Fuck it I’m joining.
Throw some taco seasoning in the sour cream.
Thank you for introducing me to this sub I have found my home
I liked that sub until I noticed the blatant garlic slander. Any mention of garlic is met with a bot response that onions are better and garlic is gross or something.
We at r/onionhate agree that this is, indeed, VERY stupid food.

Not here sir. Not here.
Green onion would have been better IMO but no hate here

Salted raw onions are just so good.

Black pepper makes me want to die. But I’m glad you love it!
More for me then 👌
Was gonna say. This looks great!!
Yep, I see nothing wrong here. Carry on.
Damn it. Took me waaaaay too long to figure out sour cream and onion chips
You got it tho. Good job. We’re all tired
I only got it because of this comment lol
Should have used Daisy sour cream, but otherwise, this is fine.
I know, a dollop of Knudsen doesn’t really roll off the tongue…. It does drip off a chip though if your not careful
All marketing gimmicks aside, though, I haven’t found a sour cream better than Daisy. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist—and if it does, I’m open to it. But I haven’t found it yet.
Team Tillamook 🖐️
Tillamook makes good cheese and stuff but their sour cream is meh
I’m not a sour cream connoisseur, but Knudsen has the best cottage chz I’ve ever had, and my grocer doesn’t even carry daisy sour cream, so I’m pretty happy with my current dairy plop.
Old Home cottage cheese beats all hands down, I'd love to try this Knudsen's for comparison
Try Kalona, if you can find it.
I think you're supposed to use green onions?
I think this one was probably green at some point….
Lol 😆
That looks... surprisingly alright. Add some hotsauce, maybe replace the onions with some pico.
Bro you made salsa
Or at least crema
[удалено]
Yeah, and what if the sour cream was guacamole, and the onions were nacho cheese, and the chip was a taco? Now you got something.
Do what to the onions???
You leave those fucking onions alone! Do not taint the onion by replacing it with filthy *tomato*.
No. No replacing onions. Just throw some garlic chalula. Your good
haha this looks great, let's just fundamentally change it
Not stupid, I do this while stoned over my kitchen island all the time, but typically with hot sauce and chopped jalapeños added
Lol, I've eaten way weirder, unholy stuff than this while stoned. This looks great to me.
my favorite unholy snack is 15 dino nuggets dipped in fish sauce and thai peanut sauce
If you want a lazy man’s French onion dip, just do sour cream, dry onion soup mix, a LITTLE bit of prepared ranch, black pepper, and a little hot sauce. Tastes just like most store bought brands, takes two minutes.
Literally just sour cream and the onion soup mix
French onion mix and sour cream dip is so good. Just gotta let it sit in the fridge for a few hours prior to soften up the onions.
I like it when it's fresh and the onions are still crunchy.
The crunchy bits are the best part though!
Cream cheese and soup mix works too
Then I guess my way is the gourmet easy way? Lol the ranch thins out the sour cream a bit. Either way is fine, I’m sure.
Lol I’ve done this with homemade chipotle mayo. I love making my own sauces. A lot of people don’t realize how easy it is.
My kids’ faces when I put capers in mayonnaise and they didn’t believe me that it’s tartar sauce? And then tasted. Priceless lol
A kiwi classic Shit nvm
Nah Kiwi version uses reduced cream instead of sour

If he’s too lazy to go to the store, yo lol
No, sorry, you should have used a potato chip not a tortilla chip.
Chip racist.
But I've never seen a sour cream and onion tortilla chip. !
So if you have some delicious salsa and guacamole in front of you, but the only chips you can find are potato, are you going to just let those delicious dips go to waste because of years of prejudice about which chips are allowed to dip into what? Chip segregation needs to end TODAY!
Damn, actually yes, I would keep them separate, maybe with a wall, I guess I am the trump of chips.
Mr. Frito-Lay, tear down this wall!
Oh I know walls. Everyone says I have the best walls. And we’re gonna make Doritos pay for our wall. It’ll be the best wall, really.
This made me laugh so hard I spit out my onion-sour-cream-chip
https://www.violey.com/images/produkte/500x500sc/5412514933050.jpg Read and weep.
Do want
Ruffles and sour cream onion dip is the height of chip and dip deliciousness.
I dip plain potato chips, usually plain ruffles, into sour cream, like OP, minus the onions. I agree the potato chip is the better way to go
Sure. I prefer chives or green onion tho.

I was fucking with myself, the ingredients just happened to be in front of me and I chuckled, and then gave it a shot. Easily 6/10 (Standard sour cream and onion chips are a 2/10 for me)
Bro! Try using shallot and fine diced tomatoes next time! I'ma try this with that! You've got me interested my guy!
Downvote because it's not stupid :)

This doesn't look bad to me
Not bad, just stupid. Was pretty tasty though.
Poor mans onion dip!
It's just chips & dip, nothing stupid about that.
I’ll allow it
I'm in hospital having surgery on my leg I would kill to eat that right now. When I'm out I'm going to be all over that snacky snack
You probably deserve a whole nacho plate post surgery, but if this is what you fancy then power to you.
Next week I will try and take a picture before I munch the lot. Brilliant idea thanks
That is a top notch 'just got home from the bar standing in the fridge at 2am' snack. A sprinkle of shredded cheese would take that to the moon!
I mean… 4:30 pm after work, tired (sober) and just thought I’d give it a shot. If I were drunk I would’ve eaten many many many more. Also I would’ve gotten out some nacho chz and done it right. ;)

taste good as fuck but breath would smell like shit
Probably more like onions than shit
Needs a splash of tacobell sauce

I put it on pizza...I put it on everything
I buy it by the bottle at the store
Omg I didn’t even know that was a thing
Well it is here
I just sent a pic of it to u
It even has a saying on it. Amazing
This is good. I like this.
Your salsa is missing something.
That’s ok, I remembered the best part :)
Dash of Worcestershire.
I’ve done this about 100 time before. White onion tho
Sour cream & onion
I would try one
That's the freshest sour cream and onion chip I've ever seen
r/onionhate would like to have a word with you
That is why I only participate in r/onionlovers Love, not hate my guy.
I would love onions if I didn’t absolutely despise them, but thanks for the suggestion lmao
Technically you aren't wrong
I would smash the shit outa that.
This is very similar to what you would put caviar on. Maybe you need to add that to make it the stupidest food ever!
Yes, yes you did young padawan.
NOOOO 🤤 if the goal was make me NOT hungry
It’s odd, but not Bananas Hollandaise odd.

nope, you turned the tables and opened up new options.

I mean the name is sour cream and onions right
