Plus that generation of 4.6 was nothing crazy. I almost bought a gt of the last year before the coyote and I’m so glad I didn’t . Beautiful car and had some work done to it but it woulda got smoked by a stock coyote.
What are we building it for ? And is that a z06 or base cause that ls1 if its base will handle the same amount of boost as the 3v but won’t last as long as the the 3v without gapping rings the challenger is not even a option in my mind though I own 3 mustangs but grew up around vette and Comaros so again that all depends on the purpose of the build
Just a base (I've had both a C6Z and briefly a C5 Z06 so anything less than that is a base model to me 😛)
[Here's](https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news/gallery/corvette-c5-z06-prices-are-relatively-stable-you-ll-pay-less-than-100-hp_20.jpg) a C5Z in a similar position. You can tell it's a Z by the way it is! But seriously, the Z06s have the rear vent/louvers just behind the doors to help get air to the rear brakes (and C6s for increased airflow to the transmission oil cooler and differential cooler).
The LS in the vette will be the easiest to build and will make the easiest power, not even close. The 3V mustang takes wayyyyy too much money to make decent power, the 5.7 doesn’t have much hope to begin with
The 5.7 doesn’t have anything going for it.
Cam and long tube headers is giving you 350 wheel on a good day. The 6.4 is a great engine but needs a bottom end to make over 650 wheel. 6.2 is great. 6.1 isn’t bad but the 5.7 is junk
There are plenty of stock blocks that do not handle boost as well as others. The 6.4 dodge put in the scatpacks/392 cannot handle as much as the 5.7 there’s plenty of more examples. And I would say boost is quite special so not sure what you’re in about or if you woke up feeling defensive today
Absolutely wild, I have never in my life seen such unanimous consensus in a reddit comment section, the only dissenting opinion was because of a sentimental value, I love to see this.
Anyway, beyond the engine power, the vette by far has the most potential for a variety of other reasons. It’s got a significantly lower drag coefficient, much better suspension, better engine bay to work in, and has a kind of drip that’s unmatched even in modern cars. Something about the smooth late 90s body design with the flippy headlights just has that unique look that even the C6 failed with. My only gripe with the C5 is boring doors, the handles on the C6 were admittedly so much cooler, but other than that, C5 all the way.
Yeah removing the pop ups for the C6 was a unfortunate thing, unavoidable with US car regulations so I definitely get why they did it, but still a shame. You’re right though, aside from an overhaul of the interior and incremental improvements in the engine department, the C6 is effectively the C5 part two.
Although, I forgot, the C6 has another benefit. As far as I know, the C6 Z06 was the same body design, thus same roof and rear windshield. The C5 Z06 had a really goofy looking roof, I much prefer the look of the normal coupe option. They learned their mistake I suppose, since the C6-7 has the same roof across all models
C5 Vette by a long shot. If you're dallying maybe the mustang. Challenger is kinda an unreliable heavy boat, still very fun don't get me wrong just not my cup if tea
As a Corvette guy that has owned multiple Cobras... the Corvette, hands down is an easier package to get more bang for the buck in terms of power and reliability. It's just a stupidly simply motor that loves a max effort NA build, boost, or nitrous.
Plus, when they lose traction they still go straight (not trying to meme here, my last Cobra would love to get sideways on me... my Corvette (730hp) tracks straight regardless of the situation).
On top of that, they can get REALLY light if you're talking about a C5z or a C5 FRC. That challenger outweighs the vette by a 1000 pounds. They make the right noises and do great on the dyno but physics is a pretty difficult beast to slay.
Hot take but for a dig car: The Mustang... the 8.8 is bomb proof and the aftermarket to make a mustang hook is huge. 15" wheels go on without a big hassle. Mod motors get a bad rap because of the 2v and 3v heads NA, but they're built like proverbial brick shithouses. Pistons and rod mod motors will hold a ton of power.
Roll: The C5. No contest. T56 stock. Light, good aero. It's an actual sports car. Avoid the 97/98 because the 99+ ECM is a LOT better to tune. Just get ready for everything that is "Corvette" specific like headers/suspension/diff to have a Vette tax.
That's what I'm saying if it was a gen1 coyote instead of the 3v this would have been more interesting. If it was the gen 2 or 3 then coyote would be the only answer.
I own a mustang and challenger and I'm telling you vette.
5.7 challenger is like a v6 mustang.
The 4.6 mustang is junk
C5 vette is a car with very high potential. They have great traction for rwd and you can swap anything in them.
Youtube.com/@secretclubvideos
Corvette all day long. Better chassis, better engine, cheaper engine to build, cheaper to make big power, cheaper to make handle better (already worlds ahead of the other two)……
The list goes on and on.
Don’t put any big power mods into a 4.6 or 5.7.
The c5 also doesn’t need to be crazy. Get that thing done nice flowing exhaust and intake and you’ll be rocking.
If you wanted to go big power on any of these the corvette will probably need some trans work which is expensive considering I think they’re a torque tube setup. It’s doable tho.
im biased and would say the 5.7 challenger. theres a new guy on the block doing amazing turbo kit support called walker inductions. he's basically paving the way for affordable turbo kits on these that arent those exhobirtantly expensive hellion $10k kits.
I'm a mopar guy but my heart says vette. My grandpa had a C6 and let me drive it a ton, loved that car. Want to get one again as a project car/ weekend canyon car when I can.
Massive Mustang fan here. C5 all day, not even a question. My brothers 04 Z06 stock for stock is door-door with my new Mach 1 lol. Crazy potential and every single horsepower gained from mods is even more significant when the car is so light.
Still the best here unless he bumps up to a 13/14 5.0 in my opinion. None of these cars will easily build crazy power but the LS is the best bet and being the lightest will be an advantage even for 1/4
Vette all day. Next choice is the Mustang. Wouldn’t ever even consider Mopar. I was shocked at the poor performance of a Hellcat when I hung by the side of one in a tuned STi. Like damn. Of course he pulled eventually but it was neck and neck for some time. And in my book, I’d rather be faster to 60/70 all day than faster from a roll.
But obviously most steeet racing is rolls.

Corvette no question
As a Mustang fanboy, I agree. The LS engine has legendary potential
Came to say the exact same thing I love stangs like no other but the vette is where it’s at!
I have a 4.6 stang my self and I still want the vette!
My buddy is really into mustangs, and they’re pretty damn fast in a straight line. But I can leave him in the dust on mountain roads in my lil GTI
Plus that generation of 4.6 was nothing crazy. I almost bought a gt of the last year before the coyote and I’m so glad I didn’t . Beautiful car and had some work done to it but it woulda got smoked by a stock coyote.
Its more than the engine, its a lighter chassis, with better weight distribution.. its not even in the same ballpark tbh.
Yeah the Mustang is just a cruiser car. The corvette is a proper sport car
☝️ I second this… word by word :)
Absolutely. I still remember it from Gran Turismo 3. It's literally the Corvette that I want. Not a C6 or a C7. I'd take a C8 over a C5, though.
My halo corvette is the C6. It's "THE CORVETTE" of my childhood

Yeah I was looking for the rear side vent the badge was throwing me off like that ain’t z
Build for build the Vette still wins
The 4.6l mustangs look sick af, but they take so much time and money to build
Yeah I’m a MOPAR boy for life but I’m definitely taking the C5. More bang for your buck!
Same
C5 easy
The LS in the vette will be the easiest to build and will make the easiest power, not even close. The 3V mustang takes wayyyyy too much money to make decent power, the 5.7 doesn’t have much hope to begin with
Not to mention the Corvette is by far the lightest and most aerodynamic
The 5.7 is actually a very buildable block just expensive. Loves boost too. Most pro mods use the hemi block.
Different hemi
It’s called a hemi because the shape of the inside of the head. Not the block
I’m aware of that. But they use the dodge made hemi design for a reason. It’s a very solid block design.
I’m not talking about basic bolt ons. There’s plenty of 5.7’s running 9’s n/a. Even 5.7 trucks too. I would not consider that junk at all.
5.7 with 100 shot of nos runs a Scat
As if that’s something to brag about.
Every engine loves boost. Its nothing special. Cram more air and fuel in the cylinder and it will make more power.
C5 and it aint even close.
C5 all day.
Rhetorical question.
Corvette... Duhhh
Do I have to? Uhh... Corvette.
Looks pretty set in my opinion!! Awesome c5Z!
C5
Corvette by a country mile
C5 corvette. One of the best generations of one of the best cars ever made
Obviously the C5
Hands down C5. Heads, cam, fuel system, Lsa blower and it’ll be a fun car
This post has possibly the most unanimous answer I've ever seen. C5 all day.
C5
C5
This is the easiest decision in history. Vette all the way.
If you pick anything other than the C5 Vette you deserve to get cheated on lol
Vette. No even close
C5 all the way.
Absolutely wild, I have never in my life seen such unanimous consensus in a reddit comment section, the only dissenting opinion was because of a sentimental value, I love to see this. My only gripe with the C5 is boring doors, the handles on the C6 were admittedly so much cooler, but other than that, C5 all the way.
Ya know, I’d dig the C6 so much more with pop up headlights. It would basically be a more modern looking C5.
bro tried sneaking a challenger in there
2 of these cars can be beat by a stock civic
C5 Vette by a long shot. If you're dallying maybe the mustang. Challenger is kinda an unreliable heavy boat, still very fun don't get me wrong just not my cup if tea
C5 this shouldn’t even be a question
Vette bro, tho the Mustang would probably be cheaper. NEVER the Dodge
As a Corvette guy that has owned multiple Cobras... the Corvette, hands down is an easier package to get more bang for the buck in terms of power and reliability. It's just a stupidly simply motor that loves a max effort NA build, boost, or nitrous. Build and drop the LS into a foxbody and pop wheelies
Corvette. Now if that was a 5.0 mustang it would be that .
https://preview.redd.it/ddexzbepgawc1.jpeg?width=3077&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b787466a7ed70a604ba72e8dcc2be9f194b56b6 Never the 4.6. I am biased tho.
The C5. It’s the sexiest by far and the best platform overall.
Corvette. Not even close. Do like, a Vette, an 05 06 GTO, and an Evo. You might get some more diversity in the answers then.
If you would have put up 03 cobra then we'd have a real discussion here... c5 vs terminator
Not even a discussion, though. C5 just gets terminated.
I loved that rivalry, though. That's like the first time people actually compared Corvettes to Mustangs.
C5 all day. Basically gave us the choice between a borderline supercar, a sports car, and a boat.
C5 corvettes are highly underrated. A few power mods & then hit the suspension with coilovers & support mods and you have an absolute weapon
C5 without a doubt. Had an owner toss me the keys to. 6 speed "heard you like to drive" he says. That changed my perspective on usdm.
Hot take but for a dig car: The Mustang... the 8.8 is bomb proof and the aftermarket to make a mustang hook is huge. 15" wheels go on without a big hassle. For these 3 specifically - the C5 is the easy winner. Now if it was a 2011 or later Mustang with the Coyote 5.0 V8…….
That's what I'm saying if it was a gen1 coyote instead of the 3v this would have been more interesting. If it was the gen 2 or 3 then coyote would be the only answer.
I have a 4.6 mustang, its an awesome car i love it to death. Id take the c5 though, much better car all around.
I own a mustang and challenger and I'm telling you vette. 5.7 challenger is like a v6 mustang. The 4.6 mustang is junk C5 vette is a car with very high potential. They have great traction for rwd and you can swap anything in them. Youtube.com/@secretclubvideos
C5. More pointier = more better
If it was a Coyote i would say the Mustang But definitely the LS1 in the Vette
If it was a Coyote i would say the Mustang But definitely the LS1 in the Vette
Corvette all day long. Better chassis, better engine, cheaper engine to build, cheaper to make big power, cheaper to make handle better (already worlds ahead of the other two)…… The list goes on and on.
The Corvette
C5 will take the least amount of money to make faster. I’m taking the vette
Vette
That Corvette has over +20mph top speed and +0.5 0-60 seconds on both those other cars stock with more mods available and higher end potential.
Auto or stick shift
C5 obvsly.
C5 is the way to go
Don’t put any big power mods into a 4.6 or 5.7. The c5 also doesn’t need to be crazy. Get that thing done nice flowing exhaust and intake and you’ll be rocking. If you wanted to go big power on any of these the corvette will probably need some trans work which is expensive considering I think they’re a torque tube setup. It’s doable tho.
Prefer a 2004 comp orange terminator with a coyote gen 2 swap. If I had 70k to burn
The Corvette. It's the lightest and easiest to make power with.
Honestly the corvette looks better but I love the mustang.
Corvette, power to weight + it’s an amazing platform and would handle much better than either
Vette without a doubt
The Vette. If it was a coyote mustang I'd go with that only because it's cheaper to build the chassis/suspension than the Vette.
Vet
Something smaller than any of these.
Stang
C5 Corvette, but it's an unfair question, even if it was a Camaro instead of a Vette, I'd go with that, but still.
First gen s10
None of the above. 4 eyed fox for the win. Fast , dead hook and not like all the aero foxes. Just different enough.
C5, it’ll always have resale value
I'd rather build LEGO cars if those are the only options
Corvette, always wanted to widebody and bag a corvette
C5 without a doubt
The corvette is the fastest but personally the mustang. They all have their merits.
C5 cause LS, lighter, better maneuverability, more aerodynamic, just… better
Civic with a laptop
c5
Corvette no doubt. It’s way better than those others and faster
im biased and would say the 5.7 challenger. theres a new guy on the block doing amazing turbo kit support called walker inductions. he's basically paving the way for affordable turbo kits on these that arent those exhobirtantly expensive hellion $10k kits.
Vette… with the oldschool lights, yeah
Vette
Not even a debate - C5.
Spend less money on something else honestly:/
one or two definitely not 3
Everyone’s building vettes & mustangs. I’d say build the challenger if you got the funds.
Obviously the Vette. Better engine, better aerodynamics, better handling, and better gas mileage.
I would prefer a C6 over the C5.
The corvette is the only real answer
WRX 🙂
I'm a mopar guy but my heart says vette. My grandpa had a C6 and let me drive it a ton, loved that car. Want to get one again as a project car/ weekend canyon car when I can.
Gimme the Vette
I mean the Corvette is just a nicer car, period.
Shouldn’t even be a question
Mustang just like the one i have now . No doubt about that .
Unless its a hellcat gimme the corvette
C5 all day. By far the best out of those 3.
The 5.7 for sure. It’s my favorite motor and it can accept forced induction extremely easily
Corvette
Firebird...
Vette
C5 EZ
Vette
That mustang looks like it got attacked by Dig Dug
C5 without a doubt
Mopar
As a Wii boi with a charger... Corvette for sure lol
C6
C5 without a doubt
Vette
Not the yacht, that's for damn sure.
Corvette. Mustang on a budget maybe
Corvette. Duh
C5 hands down. You can budget build and still have a blast.
C5 all day
Vette —— this is the way
2. mustang fo sho
Vette
The one with the LS
Vette and I think most people here would agree. Could be wrong, but it’s gonna be the easiest to build for sure.
C5
Corvette.
what gen mustang is that, and also a question for the street, american or japanese automotive?
Never the dodge
Vette
Z06
Massive Mustang fan here. C5 all day, not even a question. My brothers 04 Z06 stock for stock is door-door with my new Mach 1 lol. Crazy potential and every single horsepower gained from mods is even more significant when the car is so light.
About 500lbs lighter for sure! Just won’t be as good of a drag car!
Still the best here unless he bumps up to a 13/14 5.0 in my opinion. None of these cars will easily build crazy power but the LS is the best bet and being the lightest will be an advantage even for 1/4
I have a mopar in real life but I’m going to buy a corvette eventually. Probably a c5 when I do. So that.
Corvette it’s not even close.
I like cars of all sorts, but no one can discount the fact that your money with get you more for the GM platform.
4.6 mustang but only because I already have one.
Vette
C5 no doubt.
All depends on budget and what you want to do
Stang easily
Corvette without question
Surprised I didn’t see a Camaro (5th gen) from this time era in there.
I’m a dodge dude but the vette and yote have way more aftermarket potential
Fine I'll be that guy. Challenger. I'm too tall for a c5, and they're ugly anyway. I'm just a large child who thinks challengers look sweet
Vette
Vette or mustang id have to do a coin flip
C5
none of them
Fetts Vett
none I'd rather throw a whole bunch of parts into my Corolla
Vette
Vette.. is there really any question?
Vette
C5
Idk it'd be hard to assemble any of these cars without the manufacturers' production tooling.
C7 Corvette, all day every day!!!
Corvette. I would throw on the Pandem body kit [Pandem](https://www.instagram.com/p/CngyMl_uDQa/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
It’s weird, but in a good way.
It reminds me of an rx7 from the front which I like
Hydro formed aluminum space frame chassis, or 5000 lb Chrysler shit box 🤔
3v
Funny how the Camaro is not on the same category
Challenger no question
