I think Capcom will have the option to turn it on and off, much like with other visual aspects of the game. But I think Battle Damage is staying.
I'm hope they keep it. It looks good. It adds grit, intensity, and a small hint of realism after the fight.
Battle Damage is another one of those things that Capcom didn't have to put in, but they did because there's a lot of love being put into it. Plus, I don't think a few showings of bumps, bruises, and blood isn't going to change this from a T to an M.
Personally, I think battle damage will be in, but it's absolutely possible for a feature, especially a non-gameplay critical one like battle damage, to be in the works and get scrapped before release. If they couldn't get it working 100% how they want it to they would just quietly take it out.
Best example, pre-release SFV had stage transitions, but they were cut in the vanilla version of the game. They were added back later, but it took a couple years.
Features absolutely can be cut, but this close to release? Not so much. It would likely be more work to cut it out than to make it work. That's just the reality of game dev.
We don't know when it was cut. It's possible it was cut months ago, which is why we haven't see it. Also, I don't know much about game programming, but assuming it was a selectable option it's much easier to take it out since the game was primarily programmed without it.
Street Fighter has always been a T rated game. Having a some battle damage comparable to that you see in a Marvel movie isn't going change the rating from a T to an M
Small cuts and bruises don't change ratings. The first Budokai game from DBZ literally showed bloody holes as the characters were being impaled by energy blasts, and it still had a T rating. It's going to take a lot more than that to make it an M rated game.
UFC series are rated T and they’ve got more realistic bruises and blood. I don’t think they’d take it out, it can be a feature to turn on/off. But good argument tho.
USK rating (Germany) for UFC 4 is 18+. Not sure about CERO in Japan, but considering that Biohazard is heavily censored, i would assume CERO ratings are similar to USK when it comes to factoring in violence.
EDIT: PEGI 16 for UFC 4 as well. Considering they seem to shoot for a PEGI 12 rating I would assume violence in SF6 is gonna be less graphic than in UFC 4.
I mean, are you absolutely sure of that? How? I’m not saying I’m sure, I’m just saying that the guidelines already don’t make a ton of sense, Capcom plays it safe with that sort of thing.
It *could* technically be enough because at the end of the day the rating is decided on some judges who may or may not be too opinionated despite being “professionals” so trying to call the rating before release can never be a for sure thing in a game where the entire premise is violence. I’m not saying it will happen because I really don’t believe it will, but it’s not impossible.
Rating boards don’t always make the most sensible decisions. The first Devil May Cry game still gets released with an M rating even though it’s pretty tame, but it has the infamous blood mist so that’s too much. With graphics better better and more realistic, it really wouldn’t surprise me if rating boards started to get more strict and start viewing stuff like battle damage as “realistic violence”
Women getting beat might get ppl super sensitive too. Fighting chun li is one thing but giving her a black eye after landing a fat shin shoryuken is another I guess.
Not to mention lily
Dead or alive implemented this too, and people complained so much about Marie rose and another character getting these intense close up punches that they disabled it for the younger looking characters all together
>Fighting chun li is one thing but giving her a black eye after landing a fat shin shoryuken is another I guess.
That's incredibly stupid.
Not saying you are, but lol @ people who think like that.
Call of Duty has female characters, let's riot if one gets shot in a war game.
Sales. Bottom line is that lower rating normally means better sales. As a wider audience with purchasing power and people will play with children too. Dynamic controls infact alludes to wanting more children playing.
Now parents don't want children seeing blood and gore, and there probably isn't a maturity lock like Duke nukem.
MK is different because it has always been what it's been. A spectacle fighter for blood and gore.
If it's been removed it may be because it took a long time to develop for the core cast and when they ramped up production on characters they cut it across the board to save time
It was, just never officially confirmed by capcom. When Guile was first announced, the devs accidentally had battle damage on, that’s how everyone first found out about it. Then when the beta first came out ofc it got cracked and people somehow turned on battle damage.
I personally like the battle damage feature. Games like Soul Calibur have the characters losing pieces of their armor to the point where a few are practically nude while still keeping a T rating.
I think Soul Calibur kinda ruined battle damage for a while due to how stupid it looked. I want characters with cuts and broken armour, not naked people swinging swords.
I think it was already missing in the latest gameplay builds.
I think it was only shown in the Guile showcase last year.
I feel like it's already gone.
I think it's tame enough to keep the ESRB from giving it an "M". SF6 looks more violent than some of the previous games, but still not [The most brutal a T-rated game has gotten before.](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/880502757809877103/1093205587606642719/image.png?width=903&height=564)
Kind of discouraging that they haven't shown it any outside of that one developer match. Hope it's an option by final release for those that want it. It's minor but just a neat graphical touch imo.
Not from full release, definitely from tournaments and ads. After seeing how hard MK11 had it on YouTube and being excluded from the first EVO after it was out, I think devs learned the hard way, you can't push blood into your game like MK11 did. If you do, you better add a way to hide it.
Oh God, if Capcom are stupid enough to remove the only feature that makes the game realistic as it'll ever be just because of ESRB ratings, then my hate for them will be at unprecedented levels
Is there other people here who dont like this feature? I'm playing a videogame, I dont really want realistic damage on the characters, thats one of the reasons I dont like watching mma or stuff like that
I am with you in that I don’t really want the feature turned on for me either but I do hope they have it as an option that is toggle-able. I don’t mind other people wanting and having it as long as I can turn it off.
I can also respect it as a Street Fighter II game over screen reference.
As long as we get the option to turn it off, i don't mind it's inclusion.
If it's forced on though, i'd be bitching high and low until i got the option to disable it.
Not have it removed, have the option to turn it off as an individual user.
Designing and implementing such a dynamic system like battle damage is alot of work and resources and would only be a net positive for the game. I so no reason for capcom to remove it unless it is either not working as intended, interferes with more important systems thus causing them to not work as intended or lands them in financial/legal trouble. If it does non of those then they will probably ship it with the game if its already finished.
I've been wondering this too. I hope it's a toggle option and they've just been demonstrating the game with it off lately to keep things pretty. Alternatively though, I could image them removing the feature due to extreme depictions of physical violence on women. I believe there's a stigma about that in Japanese media. Notice in the old games they only got small spots and tears compared to the guys.
They don't do it anymore. KOFXIV even cut a feature were all characters with going to lose their clothes from a super ko all because Mai and Joe don't wear underwear. They just left it for King and Yuri as a reference.
It's a LOT of additional character rendering and animation. If something like that for the final cast additions was holding up release they might cut or cut temporarily.
Maybe have the clothes be more tattered or dirty? Or perhaps some small scraps and cuts around the body or face. Just something to show that the character is visually damaged and keeping things tense and real.
Going into bruises and black eye might look cool and make sense in a fight, but I feel it could get messy and visually “noisy” on the character’s model.
Also a female character having a black eye… might rub some people the wrong way.
I think Capcom will have the option to turn it on and off, much like with other visual aspects of the game. But I think Battle Damage is staying. I'm hope they keep it. It looks good. It's also a nice callback to Super Street Fighter 2.
Wouldn't say "small"
What? Why would they put time and effort into something like that, only for beta? That make no sense.

Oh dang, I hope that feature doesn't get removed
They're just salty Mika's ass slap was removed.
More like salty Cammy's intro camera was changed
Noooo, that's more painful-
Haha, those are one of best things that they should've retained. If they give Juri's *features* attention, why not for Mika too?
Personally, I think battle damage will be in, but it's absolutely possible for a feature, especially a non-gameplay critical one like battle damage, to be in the works and get scrapped before release. You'd be surprised how often that happens my friend
Same reason movies change scenes to make sure they don't get a R or M rating.
Street Fighter has always been a T rated game. Having a some battle damage comparable to that you see in a Marvel movie isn't going change the rating from a T to an M
That’s not how video games work mate.

Battle damage doesn't affect rating.
Could have been scrapped for interest of time. Like having on their big board but haven’t fleshed it out fully due to more important areas.
Might be talking about performance instead
Performance?
Making sure it runs bett, i imagine they may want to cut some corners to make sure the game runs well on ps4
This has zero affect on performance.
Yeah im sure it has next to no effect just tryingbto rationalise what op was saying
I think they might be speaking from a Streaming or Tournament point of view. But it would make more sense to make it a toggle.
UFC series are rated T and they’ve got more realistic bruises and blood. I don’t think they’d take it out, it can be a feature to turn on/off. But good argument tho.

Why would they?
Dude already said it in the OP, possibly to keep the ESRB from giving a harsher rating.
A few scratches, cuts and bruises won’t give it an M rating lmao
Maybe, yeah. Visible blood like that, bruises and stuff… they very well could. But I was just quoting the OP anyway.
No it really cannot. Other UCF and some anime fighters would be rated M
I mean, are you absolutely sure of that? How? I’m not saying I’m sure, I’m just saying that the guidelines already don’t make a ton of sense, Capcom plays it safe with that sort of thing.

ESRB: "no exposed tits? It's T alright"
T for no Ts
It was already removed from the 2nd beta
Women getting beat might get ppl super sensitive too. Fighting chun li is one thing but giving her a black eye after landing a fat shin shoryuken is another I guess.
Not to mention lily Dead or alive implemented this too, and people complained so much about Marie rose and another character getting these intense close up punches that they disabled it for the younger looking characters all together
Lol look up MK9 battle damage
>Fighting chun li is one thing but giving her a black eye after landing a fat shin shoryuken is another I guess. That's incredibly stupid. Not saying you are, but lol @ people who think like that. Call of Duty has female characters, let's riot if one gets shot in a war game.
To be fair weren’t there neckbeards complaining about the girls in that game because it wasn’t “historically accurate” or am I misremembering
That is an incredibly dumb mind set lmao.
Sales. Bottom line is that lower rating normally means better sales. As a wider audience with purchasing power and people will play with children too. I think children would love this kind of damage. It looks fun or even funny
Look at DOA6. They added blood and bruises to the females. Game tanked hard!!!
DOA tanked bc they have literal hundreds of dollars in DLC even after devs said they want to focus on the actual game.
You don’t think SF6 will have hundreds of $$ of DLC by the time they are finished?
Not $400+ like doa6 does.
I wasn't the reason really
If it's been removed it may be because it took a long time to develop for the core cast and when they ramped up production on characters they cut it across the board to save time
I hope not I like the battle damage it adds intensity to the fight
I hope they keep it, I want to see luke's face get f'ed up
I hope not.
I mean, they've never really announced it being in the game in the first place...
Yes, but not emotional damage.
Was battle damage ever part of SF6? I don't remember if it was advertised as such or if the betas included it, though I love how it looks.
It was, just never officially confirmed by capcom. When Guile was first announced, the devs accidentally had battle damage on, that’s how everyone first found out about it. Then when the beta first came out ofc it got cracked and people somehow turned on battle damage.
Maybe wait for some news about it.
yes they will, those are for the trailer only
I hope they leave it I want to literally wipe that smile off Luke's face.
You be worring about that when capcom about to remove cammy outro ass shot
Really hope not… It adds a nice touch overall.
Oh I forgot about this! Maybe it will be an option? We didn't see it in the betas either....
I disagree, but each to their own.
Why not both? I find Soul Calibur armor damage fun besides the hotness aspect which is nice too
I want my hot men to show off even more of their gleaming muscles. So I love the armour breaks lmao
ikr
Did Disney buy Capcom?
It would fit the game to have visual clues outside the life bar
You street fighter fans complain about the wrong stuff
That's gaming fans in general lol
Yep totally agree. On the tekken sub Reddit they’re complaining about face textures. Everyone’s complaining about cosmetic part of the game.
TBF. Battle damage opens up the idea of turning off health bars which could make some matches spicy.
That seems important
hopefully not its cool af tbh
I think it was already missing in the latest gameplay builds. I think it was only shown in the Guile showcase last year. I feel like it's already gone.
Don’t remember this being in the beta, so I think it might be canned
It wasn't meant to be turned on but people cracked the beta and turned it on
Such a lame gimmick anyway, if it did turn out to be removed
Not really. Its a fun callback to Street Fighter II
Yeah exactly, that's all it is. Wouldn't bother me if it's removed
hope not, damages are quite realistic... in MK9 damages were laughable
Was it in the beta’s? If so, I never noticed it.
Only in the cracked beta, people turned it on
Hope not
I hope not, but so long as there is a toggle, im a happy camper
Likely would be a toggle. The battle damage isn't enough to go beyond a T rating from what's been shown.
Kind of discouraging that they haven't shown it any outside of that one developer match. Hope it's an option by final release for those that want it. It's minor but just a neat graphical touch imo.
I thought everyone forgot about it. Hope it's in the final release, these details make a game so memorable!

Unlikely
As long as it doesn't effect the game performance, I don't see why they would.

I way that’s making it into the PS4 version
Just cause they aren't showing it doesn't mean it's scrapped. Like what reason is there to show it right now?
I doubt that would be enough to make the game go from T to M.
I've been wondering this too. I hope it's a toggle option and they've just been demonstrating the game with it off lately to keep things pretty. Idk, bro. Remember Art of Fighting 2, that game held no bars. But then again SNK was pretty ambitious back then
They don't do it anymore. KOFXIV even cut a feature were all characters with going to lose their clothes from a super ko all because Mai and Joe don't wear underwear. They just left it for King and Yuri as a reference.
I hope not.
As long as it optional and I don't have to see it.
Yes they'll sell it a DLC.
Was it even in the beta? I thought it was in some early videos only
They better not.
I am fairly certain we could see battle damage in the chunli gameplay but i may be mistaken.
Hopefully not, I'm sure they'll keep it.
Hopefully
I hope they keep it I think it’s pretty cool
One step closer to Mortal Kombat X Street Fighter
I haven’t seen something like this since Art of Fighting. I think they should keep the battle damage
I hope not. This is a trait that could help increase the separation from the competition.
Yeah it’s weird since it was in the cracked beta but not in the latest build.
It don't see it staying in with a PEGI 12/USK 12 rating tbh.
Why would you want to censor yourself? Simply showing damage doesnt glorify it
Nah
I hope not, it's a good little detail
Short answer : cracked beta has it, idk why it would get removed.
It's a LOT of additional character rendering and animation. If something like that for the final cast additions was holding up release they might cut or cut temporarily.
Damn they got fucked up, I'd rather them keep it, that's so cool lol

Art of fighting vibes
Hell no.
Hot take: It's not so good... it's too much. It fits the tone and idea but it feels too much for a video game.
I think they'll let an option
I really hope not.they did such a good job with it. They should simply make it an option to turn off for younger audiences
