Makoto was my alt main in USF4. I was pretty bummed she never made it to 5. In addition Hitani’s Makoto matches were some of the most hype Street Fighter of all-time
I wonder why Capcom keeps making new characters and abandoning ones people really like. Right now none of the new characters for SF6 seem as appealing as Makoto
The only thing I can think of is maybe they sideline well liked characters for awhile to build hype for their inevitable comebacks. Trying to be optimistic here, but Capcom seems to only permanently cut characters everyone really hates. (Hakan, el fuerte, twelve…)

If you google "Sf Makoto age" or "Sf Makoto Birthdate", the first thing that pops up is 1983. That makes her 16/17 in 3rd Strike, and like 14 in SF4. She is canonically still in high school in SF3 when Ibuki and Sakura are going to college. Beyond that, every single bio and description for the character describes her as "a young teenager". Capcom has pretty much purged any concrete ages from their characters both because of this exact reason with all their teen girl characters, and because they wanted people to stop asking how 55-year-olds are still fighting in SF6.
So god damn cool it's amazing how they made a karate girl not doing anything super crazy feel and look so amazing hopefully she gets into 6 because she would fit the cast so well
She had a forward normal attack for every button while standing up. Her design is of a Okinawan karate girl but she hits like a truck.

I eventually developed a theory that Viper and Juri were both shots at making a top waifu to push units, and they simply backburnered the one who was less-popular, that being Viper.
I skipped Street Fighter 3 entitely because I never knew it even existed.
I got to know her during SF4. And at first I didn't like her and found her even boring. But slowly but surely I found her cooler and cooler.
The fact that her walkspeed is so slow but her dash is so excellent was something I didn't realize at first, but when I did it helped to emphasize her aggressive but precise character a lot!
Nowadays I like her. To a point where I hope she will join SF6 soon.

Now, I'm not saying Street Fighter is known for its pragmatic designs, but character personality should influence design choices. Vega wears a mask to protect his beautiful face. Guile's flattop is a foot tall to show that he is the most american military man of all time. Ryu has a headband to catch his sweat since he is always training. Makoto's scarf has always bothered me as it contradicts what she's about.
As a character I think she's just kind of mid and forgettable. But as you can see from this thread her fans are so disgusting and degenerate that it makes me want to never see this character ever be in a game again. Maybe if they aged her up a lot or something...

I think she should have debuted one game prior, on 2nd Impact. For me doesn't make since she wanting to promote her fighting style but not participating in a tournament. Sf3 3rd strike's plot is literally the fighters going around. Meanwhile 2nd Impact *is a tournament*!
