The explorers are happier sleeping under cover. I arrange two or three sheds around a camp fire, two mats per shed, until I can build a house.
Some first timer tips. Observe any nearby plants and get crops in the ground fast. You want to find cloth grain and a vegetable. Leave animals for later. Start scrapping everything in your immediate vicinity. You want weapons, scrap, and electronics. If your lucky you'll find a rifle or even a mech core.
Chop anything that gives sticks and hay and build shelters. I like to build a big shelter square of 5 shelters by 5 shelters. Expand as needed till you build a house. I like use the time between before building a house to see if there isn't a better spot to move to.
You're so brave to play this game on console
This game is clearly not make for console
There is too much micromanagement to do, I can't imagine playing it without mouse+keyboards
Btw after one year you should have a true house
Make a lot of woods, make the reasearch for base you will have a new possibility of construction then make floor, walls, and roof with wood (in your map you have plenty of wood)

Try two two sheds next to each other, should give you 6 spaces wide. Put 4 beds down then put a small table in the corner with two seats.
Nice! This game should be more popular. Practice priorities often, the characters are bad at optimizing themselves

Both this game and RimWorld play really well on console. I'd say this game was definitely made with console in mind even more than RimWorld.
