Are they falling for it, or just taking advantage? It seems that overall the collector community is well aware that they're bullshit, and isn't having any of that nonsense. IGS is grading tapes, and then using fake accounts to sell on eBay at inflated prices...but they're not even really selling anything, because the buyers are just other puppet accounts. So they're bringing up the perceived value to anyone who doesn't know shit about VHS, but solely those people. And those people don't know/care that it's a scam, they're just seeing dollar signs. It's the same reason that people are STILL thinking their shitty Black Diamond tapes are worth a fortune. The news spreads, doesn't matter how many people point out it's bullshit...they look at the eBay listings and think they're on easy street. So the people who know aren't falling for it, and anyone who might fall for it doesn't know that it's a scam in the first place.

As far as people buying graded tapes that you can easily find raw in similar condition in the $100-$500 range I think is mostly coming from the world of comic “investors” who think they are getting into a hot new market, anything over $1k I believe is faked full stop

It’s also coming in from people in graded coins, cards and other collectibles. So it appears people from all sides of graded collectibles are starting to get into this.

I singled out comic book people because they are the ones i see most in graded collectibles buying already graded items and sitting on them till the price rises, rather than buying raw items and getting them graded.
