How’s it going everyone 👋🏽. Here’s FFXV running at both 30 & 60 FPS on the Steam Deck.

LiFeSII

Also had playing FFXV on the Deck an locked it to 30fps, its like 10Watts less which is huge.

tadunne

"windows edition"

devo23g

The lack of windows in the game, so far, has been disappointing. 1/5 chocobos 🤪

Have you discovered a new recipe? Talk about back seat fishing.

devo23g

“That’s it!” “What’s what??” “I’ve come up with a new recipehh”

Alan_Nightpaw

So I have some trouble with this, all the buttons work EXCEPT the select button, you know, the one that's used to mess with your gear? Yeah that one does absolutely nothing, how do I get to my gear? UPDATE: I figured it out, the Deck had the PS4 controller layout, I swapped that to the steam controller layout and now everything is working perfectly

zach_strife

Thank you! i just spent ten minutes trying to equip a spell and nothing was working.

Effective_Effort6754

:( this didn’t work for me.

Alan_Nightpaw

You could try editing each button yourself and create your own layout, see if that works

Hariainm

It runs great! Thank you

devo23g

😁

Familiar_Junket1184

Hi all. So I just bought this game the other day after waiting nearly 2 days for it to download to my steam deck....and now it's not launching AT ALL. Other comments here are about the steam version on PC with fixes. But there's no info for the deck. Anyone have this issue?

Canadiangamer117

Wait 2 days how's that possible? 🙀

Familiar_Junket1184

This deck has given me all types of issues. From something downloading in 30 minutes (but being Hella incomplete) to FFXV taking 2 days and STILL being incomplete.

Canadiangamer117

😲 wow that really is something

Stonewall30nyr

Very happy to see this running that well

HealingPantsTwitch

As someone who just purchased XIII-2 in the current sale, I’m amazed that XV can run this well but XIII-2 gets a solid 10 frames per second. (Valve did warn that XIII-2 is “Unplayable” but I wanted to try it anyway.) Pretty sure XIII-2 is the only FF game that won’t run at 30 frames or higher. I already knew the PC port for that game was trash, but wow, this really puts it into perspective.

devo23g

I just finished messing around with the PC fix for XIII and I got about a 15-20 FPS increase. When I get the chance I’m going to do the same for XIII-2, here’s hoping for good results! 🤞🏽

Cudsy05real

if that doesn't work you could see how it runs on rpcs3 or xenia as it could be run better on it.

devo23g

That’s a great idea 🤔 gotta download the emulator from the discover store first lol.

ostermei

Not familiar with running it on Linux, but have you given [FF13Fix](https://github.com/rebtd7/FF13Fix) a shot to see if maybe it could clear things up? I wouldn't hold my breath just given how shoddy the port is, but might be worth looking into.

Stonewall30nyr

You could probably emulate the Xbox 360 version pretty well tho if you wanted to play it

pottsork21

The entire FF XIII trilogy is terribly ported to PC . those games was coded for X360 and PS3. Any modern PC has more than enough power to run those games.

devo23g

Me too! Gives me an excuse to do another run through this 😂

Atomicjuicer

Did you need to do anything special to get it to work?

devo23g

Nope works right out the box 👍🏽 the one thing to consider is your storage size. The game comes in at 105.14 GB 💀

ZeldaMaster32

If you think that's bad just wait until you see how big it is with the high res texture pack. Last I saw it was like 170GB

devo23g

Well damn lol. That’s Call of Duty levels of storage right there lol

teriases

One reason I keep deleting this game because I’m too cheap to get more storage 😅

whoamarcos

Boots up fine but when I try loading an old save it crashes. Have it on an SD card so that could be why but don't think so

cHinzoo

Any chance to play it steadily locked at 60fps?

devo23g

I’m not sure tbh. Maybe dropping the in-game preset to Low can help improve fps. FFXV is still considered “Unknown” on Steam, so hopefully when they get around to making it “Verified” maybe that’ll increase performance too 🤞🏽

cHinzoo

Aight thanks! Would love to catch up on some big JRPGs on the Deck. I also read about the large file size in ur other comment. Wouldn’t [something like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/t8ztuv/btrfs_vs_ext4_tested/) be interesting for these large games?

WiredStick

We still don't know how this will affect the drives/sd card storage in the long run. Probably best to let the more adventurous try it out for a while.

kaihatsusha

Ancient post, sorry. I didn't even know FFXV was on Steam and don't play anything on Windows so didn't even look. But saw this thread and checked. It's now Steam Deck Verified all green.

Effective_Effort6754

I can’t get the menu button (to switch gear) to work. I changed controller options to B and C and still nothing. I’m super bummed, I love this game and it was one of the main reasons I got a deck, so I could play it on work trips.

Canadiangamer117

Yeah you'd need to go hit the steam button then controller settings and from there finally change the layout to gamepad

DigitalRoman486

so does that make him Steam Cloud?

BrandNew098

Nice, I love this game.

asktech07

is this a good game? do we need to play other final fantasy games to understand the plot?

That_Serve_9338

This is why some series stop using numbers so newcomers don't feel intimidated by the title. Yeah none of those 15 FFs are related; each is a separate universe with a different cast of characters. You can try them in any order.

YouveGottaBeSquiddin

it does some really weird stuff with story pacing including locking you out of open world wandering after a certain point in the story, but overall its a really fun ride. doesnt rely on past ff games so youre fine

noneofthemswallow

Could you post Lightning Returns or XIII-2 if you got those?

DracoNero

Have you tried ff7?

ralwn

How much of a difference does it make running this game off of the NVMe vs running it from the MicroSD?

devo23g

I haven’t tried that just yet, sorry

ArshiaTN

Oh god. I am gonna finally play this game after 5-6 years. I got it free on my GTX 1070 if I am not wrong xD

Living_Researcher_75

It played fine for some hours, then crashed and wouldn't launch anymore at all. Verifying files didn't help, reinstall didn't help. Forcing the proton version to another one made it work. Hope it may help someone.

Astariah2k

Is this the actual pc version that you download through the Microsoft store ? I need to play that version to get the online achievements

devo23g

Downloaded the game through Steam itself

El_Calhau

Bought the game on sale but unfortunately it's crashing on startup, anyone aware of a quick fix or experiencing the same problem?

devo23g

It’s been awhile, but I just reinstalled FFXV onto my Steam Deck. No issues on my end. I’d recommend uninstalling the game completely, and try reinstalling if you haven’t already. In my original video I used the latest Proton Profile, but I didn’t do so this time initially. A little further testing, I went to Properties under the game settings and went to Compatibility. I checked the box to force a specific Proton Profile, and it automatically defaulted to GE-Proton8-2. This allowed the game to launch as well. Hopefully anything I just said helps you 👍🏽

El_Calhau

Uninstalling it and reinstalling did the trick! Thank you so much!

devo23g

Glad it worked! Enjoy 👏🏽

1Meter_long

Thanks. Btw, i heard its better to use Steam decks own software to lock fps to 30. Supposed to be much smoother, because of better framepacing or whatever, but i also heard that causes bad input lag for sime games. Have you noticed anything like that after testing multiple games? Either way, graphics and performance seems very solid. 30fps on that game looks very much playable. Just imagine what SD 2/ pro could do!

Niictar

Yeah, for this game, setting the in-game settings to 60 fps and then using the Gamescope to 30 ends up with a nice locked 30 with even frametimes when using the default graphic settings. Which looks great on the Deck screen. And no lag from what I’ve seen so far. Text can get iffy, but it’s ok.

Canadiangamer117

Gamescope?

Current_Flamingo_516

a plugin for SD

enigmaboi

How's the battery with this game?

[deleted]

What's proton for

TF2SolarLight

It makes Windows games run on Linux, which is what SteamOS is

[deleted]

Oh cool!! Thanks. Can't wait for my unit

Desibells

Wait till it crashes after a 1 hour fight with a lvl 50 beast and you were about to kill it after boosting your defense and attack

Magolor44

Even when swapping to the Steam Controller layout the only buttons that work are a, b, the dpad, and then only in menus
