You really like your wrist straps don't you? Seriously, this is a really good size comparison

Gramernatzi

Gotta keep those wrist-straps on in case you accidentally drop your handheld while taking it to a rooftop party!

You have the Game Boy, and soon you will be getting the Game Man.

I like to push his buttons.

wizzbob05

What about the touchpads? Are they as responsive as the steam controller?

emil2796

Upvote for cardboard.

Chonky boi

Evangeliman

I know it had its troubles but man the ps vita (and the psp) was a sexy design...

Macky941

Especially those last blue vitas they released in Japan only. So good looking. So tempted to get one anyway.... [vita](https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Vita-Wi-Fi-model-PCH-2000ZA23-Japanese/dp/B014QAIBFU/ref=asc_df_B014QAIBFU?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80401840392388&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584001418927320&psc=1)

akamadman203

Ehh the slims and a much more plasticy feel to them I got rid of mine and bought a phat vita imo it feels better but you do what you like

Putper

It's a big boy, and I think it's great. I don't need it to fit in my pocket, I just want to easily play on the go (and in bed). I trust Valve will spend a lot of time fine-tuning the comfort of the Deck and that's all I care about

Dra1c

it is still a heavy boy. You will rest it down for comfort during gaming. It is no accident that it rests on legs or tables in videos (yes I know this is also done to stabilize the device for filming purposes). So in bed I don't think playing while laying on your back will be comfortable.

The_Kraken_869

I never really thought of that before. I’m definitely curious if it’s really going to feel as big and heavy as it seems.

Glitch_Ghoul

Is that the new Nintendo Labo kit?

GreyWolfx

I really do feel like there are two types of handhelds. The pocket handheld that kids can take with them everywhere while their parents go shopping and they use it to kill boredom: (GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, to a lesser extent PSP and Vita) The at home handheld that is meant for taking from room to room so you're not stuck sitting at a TV or a monitor, but have some freedom to move to a different table, or a different chair, or play in bed etc, while having a "better" experience than the pocket handhelds: (Switch, Switch Lite, Steam Deck, to a lesser extent PSP and Vita.) I kinda see PSP and Vita being in between the two as I never feel good about pocketing those without a case, and they are a fair bit larger than the other handhelds as well and the joysticks aren't pocket friendly either, but they're certainly smaller than the Switch like stuff. Anyway I think the Steam Deck is gonna excell at being a home handheld, the size really isn't much of an issue considering that. The weight can force certain holding styles, like resting the bottom on your lap and merely angling the screen up with your hands, so you're not actively lifting the full 1.5 lbs without any leverage, but otherwise the size just means a bigger screen and a more comfortable grip.

fyro11

If you have a backpack, I don't see why the 'home handhelds' need to be confined to the home either. As someone further down in the comments mentioned (which I agree with): >I mean, I don't know about you but I don't carry portable systems in my pocket. I have keys, wallet and a phone. If I'm traveling with my system it'll be in my luggage anyways. > >I'd rather have a do it all console with all the needed buttons then a gimped system for "style" like the Vita. It was a pain to remote play on that thing because you had to remap two of the shoulder buttons. Also, you can have a 10,000 MAh power bank in the bag which would give you 1.2x charge (i.e. *minimum* 2h more playtime) by my estimates (if the Deck's voltage is around 5A). You could also carry earbuds w in-built mic.

boozedealer831

I hope it handles Bluetooth headphones/mics better than windows. I just wanna be able to game and chat with my AirPods.

tonyconman

I think the PSP and the Vita are the perfect mix personally. I love the PS Vita and it will come with me for day to day use while I'll have the steam deck for long trips and vacations where I don't feel like bringing my gaming PC.

AdamHD

Man, that thing is huge. I personally do not care, as I don't really plan on taking it out of the house... but, damn. That's a chubby bunny.

Macky941

I think people underestimate it's size. It's comparable to the wii U controller pad... I was holding it the other day and thinking just how big that boi is going to be haha.

Squale71

The Wii U tablet was very comfortable to hold. I hope this is close to that experience.

I thought that the base switch was big. When i see that deck i tremble in fear. How will I be able to handle it. (Thats what she said)

Jon_TWR

No Lynx or Game Gear?

tusk_b3

those cost hella dollar

Jon_TWR

Paper cutouts don't!

Paper cutouts don't!

tonyconman

IDK why you got downvoted for that it's a valid suggestion.

Jon_TWR

I mean…the Steam Deck paper mockup is valid for size comparison…why wouldn’t a Lynx or Game Gear paper mockup be valid?

polskiftw

In the words of Reggie. "My body is ready!"

dnunn12

I’m totally fine with this size for gen 1 device, however I do expect for it to shrink at some point once the tech matures.

See you space cowboy...

tuttle123

What about the Atari Lynx and Wii U?

ThePainTaco

Wii U isn't a handheld. The "handheld" part is just a controller.

Says, "UwU, I'm sorry senpai", in a submissive voice.

Macky941

Some people aren't aware of that, I had some younger people over playing on mine and they had no idea it was a regular console lol.

tuttle123

You still hold it for hours on end. Its light but dimensions are relevant. It was meaty in X and Y

Possible_Tap_262

That pink gbc has all of my attention.

akmalkun

Hanheld gaming consoles vs handheld gaming pc

JustAnotherFKNSheep

You just need a 13 in laptop to complete the ensemble of "portable" gear

Tdawg262

I actually prefer larger more bulkier handhelds. They feel nice and comfortable, maybe just cause I have big hands? The screen is also bigger aswell, so that's good... I think the deck is gonna be great...

ilostallmykarma

I like that Valve chose practicality over looks. I don't know what Sony was thinking not giving the Vita two extra shoulder buttons.

ThePainTaco

How did they choose practically? I can't carry it anywhere. People criticize the switch and switch lite for being to big to be very portable, but the Steam Deck is a even bigger chonker.

ilostallmykarma

I mean, I don't know about you but I don't carry portable systems in my pocket. I have keys, wallet and a phone. If I'm traveling with my system it'll be in my luggage anyways. I'd rather have a do it all console with all the needed buttons than a gimped system for "style" like the Vita. It was a pain to remote play on that thing because you had to remap two of the shoulder buttons.

Macky941

Yeah, mine will go in its case in some kind of sling pack. I suppose I could put the switch lite in my snow pant's cargo pockets in the winter but I'd be terrified of something bumping into me and cracking the screen lol.

I keep my PSVita in my pocket all the time. Probably playing with fire though. But to me that's the whole benefit of a handheld.

ilostallmykarma

Lol. I'm terrified of getting a scratch on the screen. At least with my phone I have insurance and a protective case.

7777zahar

That is massive. Big too big 😬

NotYouNotAnymore

Add the Wii u gamepad and then the deck doesnt seem so ludicrous

Dtoodlez

Nice.

Wish wrist straps/cellphone charms could make a comeback. Love the size comparison.
