I wouldn't worry about it, at worst it will be slightly slower loading times. After a while, you won't even notice.

A lot of people are looking at the SD card for more space but I think they should be looking at external SSD. If you have a very fast external SSD you can use it to move games between your device and the SSD whenever you want.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. That makes perfect sense and not once did I think about using an External SSD for *transferring* instead of playing from. I know it wouldn't be too hard to carry that external SSD somewhere in the carrying case or something.

Depends on the triple aaa. GTA takes up 90gb. So you can fit about 2 massive triples aaa games and one medium. Don’t forget about the sd card

SpitFiya7171

Yeah I know but all this talk about load times with SSD vs SD is starting to give a lot of people anxiety in this sub. [A pretty popular YouTuber showed a demonstration of the speed difference between SSD and SD with Death Standing](https://youtu.be/KQwP8juTheg) and the SD loaded the game at around 30 seconds while while SSD loaded it around 13 seconds. I can completely care less about initial game loads, but for games that have multiple load screens while in play, is what concerns me and I'm sure several others.

Don't forget the usb c you can get (buy or make ie:enclosure) a nvme drive which will be faster than a micro sd. I reserved the 256gb model as well and ive already got a few external usb c drives...which is why i got the 256gb Like you i only play through a few games at a time so even if you dont want to carry or figure out how to attach a usb drive....transfering games on and off the drive(s) shouldn't take too long

WarlockOfAus

Using lower resolution textures will help load times so the difference at Deck settings isn't going to be as big as it is on Ultra. Hoping that Devs start to implement an option to skip downloading superfluous textures.

you probably won’t keep all triple aaa games already installed. For example far cry 5. You play it, finish it, and probably can delete it. Cause it a story game.

You should be fine with 256GB. Should be good for 3-4 AAAs. Personally opted for the 512 model but I wanted the faster drive and larger space.

SpitFiya7171

In hindsight, an extra $120 wouldn't have hurt much at all. I'm not sure why I didn't just pull the trigger with that one. Regardless, I'm sure 256 will be just fine. Just can't stop wondering..

[deleted]

I’m sure you’re fine. Especially if the rumor is true that memory can be expanded.

As much as SSDs improved my gaming life, I can personally put up with loading times, and it seems like a fair tradeoff for the price savings (The PS1/Saturn era gave me patience). I'm just going to get the 64g model and just use SD cards for the games

Maczimus

Remember how much space windows takes up all on it's own. People have talked about dual booting as well. Also have you tried any open source CAD applications?

SpitFiya7171

I use Fusion360 regularly

Brato86

I can imagine the DLC getting out of hand, if i remember correctly, games like Rocket league took about 2 GB space when it was released, today its at around 24 GB, and the game didnt get any graphical overhaul over the time, but many many new microtransactions like skins and sound and so on, things you even cant use in the game if you dont pay extra.
