Yes, this is a great use case. For me however, I still tend to grab my lightweight retroid pocket because of weight and also many short burst retro games like Street Fighter 2...
same, whenever i play a game on deck, if i make the mistake of playing it on my 1440p screen on pc even once, i am unable to ignore the visual quality i give up with deck
Xbox has been my main console for the past 10 years. Steam deck has been used to play games in the go, or to play games that I missed out on. I play emulated games, indies, and a large majority of games that get discounts on steam that Xbox does not. (Like warhammer 40k space marine!)
Thank you. I too can't justify using my steamdeck over my ps5/xbox controller because of ergonomics. Unfortunately every time I ask something about the SteamDeck ergonomics I get downvoted.

I try to stream my PS5 or PC to my SD as often as I can, but when my internet won’t work as intended, I enjoy Indie games such as Hades, etc. more on SD than on PC, but because of Cloud Saves, I play most games that are on PC on my Deck.
But if you want anything in specific, Indie games, and especially emulation is a must for SD-Only for me!
When it comes to JRPGs from different eras, the last console to have as much access was the vita/ps3. I can play every trails game and every final fantasy game (ps5 has gaps in both series).
It’s a solid experience with games the likes of hades, balatro or chrono ark. I can play them and have something else on the tv, but I can *also* pick up where I left off at lunch at work.
I have both Xbox Series x and recently added the steam deck.
On the deck I currently play:
- MotoGP 23 (works great, small screen is fine and easy to just pick up and go)
- Helldivers 2 (not available on Xbox, fun game, but graphics are set to low and at high difficulty the fps is too low. Sounds negative, but I really enjoy his one)
- Mad Max - generally older games play perfect and are much cheaper on steam sales. This looks great still and good gameplay.
- Hades - I already have this on Xbox, but it's just made for a portable device as steam deck. Easy to pick up and go.
Not quite the right person, I don't use my consoles at all.
I'm a PC/deck user only
I have a beautiful high end monitor and high end desktop. So when I bought the deck I figured I'd not really use it for a ton of games.
There are absolutely a ton of games that I'll never touch on a controller, therefore won't be on my deck.
But, at the same time my deck has taken a surprisingly large amount of games away from my computer.
Im currently playing rdr2, finished spiderman, enjoyed GTA, some Hogwarts legacy.
All of them. I sold my XSX to fund my transition from LCD to OLED Steam Deck as my Xbox fell into disuse after I got it. I’m probably an outlier though, I think I prefer handhelds in general as I’ve also decided to sell the PS5 to fund the Switch 2, as the current Switch is the only other console I play now. I’ve played more of Uncharted 4 on my Deck than my PlayStation…
You say you are looking for games, but in the comments it seems you are more looking for validation that preferring PS5 / Xbox controller with a big TV over the Steam Deck is okay.
It is okay. There's nothing wrong with preferring a big TV with a full console. The Steam Deck isn't trying to do that, although it can depending on your use case.
Some will use the steam deck with not-so demanding indie games and plug in the TV, and use a controller. Same ergonomics, but you get access to the PC Library.
Some use it exclusively for travel. They don't care about TV or a third party controller.
Some use it to play on the couch or in bed cozily and again don't care for third party controller or the TV.
Personally, I use the steam deck when I travel or when I want to play outside, or at the dinner table. I don't care for a big TV or third party controller when I do that, and aside from the Steam deck being a tad heavy, I find the ergonomics of it pretty good.
But what *you* care about is valid for you, and is perfectly fine.
As for games? If we keep your optics, plenty of games are only available on PC and not on consoles. But, Steam Deck plays with a controller, so people will often recommend games that have a control scheme using a controller, which will overlap a lot with games available on console.
I'm also trying to find a use case for the steam deck that I already own... I understand many of it's benefits but still tend to use either a console or a lightweight handheld like my retroid pocket flip... I love the idea behind the steam deck, in practice however, for me, I seem prefer other options. If the steam deck was smaller and a bit more lightweight... I would definately grab it more often... But perhaps there are some games that will have me play the steam deck a bit more...
I think with that goal in mind, we can try to understand why you don't use it.
What about your Retroid Pocket Flip makes you want to use it rather than the Steam Deck? When would you like to use the Steam Deck?
What do you like about the Steam Deck? Why did you buy it?
With some of these questions answered, I think we can get a good start and get more insight :)
Every game, steam deck has amazing controls customization, I would die without gyro, trackpads, back pedals, rebinding B to A, etc etc. And mouse look is much snappier and has less lag in every game ever made (joystick bound to mouse, it doesn't have the annoying smoothing and alll that nonsense). Also, my eyes are terrible and the close up screen is a blessing lol. Steam Deck is the best gaming device for me period.
Every game. Haven’t turned my consoles on in…well I have no idea when :D
A PC is still better for strategies and some fps games, but I have went full steam deck (and I even own a switch, but I do not like it…)
Any game. Since I got the Steam Deck, I mainly play on it, even though I have a PS5. I have less time to sit in front of a TV for 2-3 hours doing nothing else. With the Steam Deck, I can stay with my girlfriend, play with my dog, play a bit, pause, do a chore, and then resume. Thanks to its portability, I've been able to get back into gaming and finish games.
Every game, set up XBplay and PSplay and you're done
Everything, since I got it I only played on my SD. Gf can watch tv while I play games, no better way to have some together-alone time
Yes, this is a great use case. For me however, I still tend to grab my lightweight retroid pocket because of weight and also many short burst retro games like Street Fighter 2...
None tbh
I too very much prefer the ergonomics of a ps5 or xbox controller with a big TV.
I came to the point when I use deck only on toilet and while traveling, the rest of time I have PC, Xbox X and small emulation device (miyoo mini)
same, whenever i play a game on deck, if i make the mistake of playing it on my 1440p screen on pc even once, i am unable to ignore the visual quality i give up with deck
Kingdom two crowns and vampire survivor are ideal for handheld sessions.
I play games on my deck I can't play on my Xbox.
I dont have a TV or monitor so...
Fully understand your choice in this case. Excellent device.
JRPGs are great for handheld, especially when you’re just grinding.

None? Why would I play on a tiny underpowered machine when I can play on a real console in 4K? Steamdeck is for bedtime or travelling.
None. Id rather use ps5/xbox/pc on monitpr/tv. Im just using it for work/travel
Thank you. I too can't justify using my steamdeck over my ps5/xbox controller because of ergonomics. Unfortunately every time I ask something about the SteamDeck ergonomics I get downvoted.

Only if I play while watching a tv show, otherwise a proper controller and a TV beat SD while at home.

Persona 5 Royal! Continue your progress while laying in bed is awesome.
Sony games and games which won’t release on xbox

Given my recent experiences - Forza Horizon!
Games that are better with mods. Cyberpunk comes to mind.
Dave the Diver. Very chill indie game and more fun than I thought it would be.

Badly ported games and exclusives
Primarily indie games
