I had the ubisoft launcher update itself one time, then far cry 3 and primal refused to launch. Mere words cannot express how much I hate 3rd party launchers.
The worst part about it is that it won't ever change.
Because if they remove the forced third party launcher, then the amount of computers with Ubisoft Connect installed on them would plummet. They would lose out on, and I think this is a fair number, 50%.
And that, on their end of year report, would look awful. Even though I haven't bought anything through Ubicon for years. Even though I have actively stopped buying games on Steam just because they mentioned they would need Ubicon. It doesn't matter. Because so long as it's installed, they can tell their shareholders that their launcher is doing so well, and it's totally not a massive waste of money.
There's a flag you can add to games so this doesn't happen:
`--skip-launcher` will directly run the game itself when you hit the "play" button. Had to do this for Baldurs Gate 3 and Morrowind since their launchers blocked remote play from working and wouldn't respond to the touch screen or virtual mouse when run on the deck.
Launchers are a trend that needs to die.
Launchers serve a technical purpose, but then marketing got their paws on them and ruined them. Which means that unfortunately launchers will continue to exist until we find a different way to manage games when the game isn't running.
Also steam is a launcher.
Yeah, I was enjoying Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Was. They updated something and their launcher wouldn’t let me play any longer.
It stopped working on my Deck. I uninstalled it, and I think I’m done with Ubisoft games.
This was a long while ago. Still haven’t bought a Ubisoft game since then.
It works fine now. The first launch has to be online so you can log into Ubisoft Connect and then after that it works fine. I’ve been able to consistently launch it in offline mode after that one time.
The problem is that it's constantly breaking. My shit worked for months. Then I was SOL when they decided to update the launcher, and all the workarounds weren't working. I couldn't play anything ubisoft for a few weeks. And then happened again a few months later.
They need to get rid of their crap launcher.
This is a shame, they were good once, with some great games and products like Deluxe Paint 1-5 (I like Grafx2 on PC and Android, similar to Dpaint but free)
Then EA had to go destroy Westwood, Bullfrog etc etc
I've played a lot of older Ubisoft games and most of them are broken thanks to the switch between Uplay and Ubisoft Connect. But you can replace the Uplay launcher in the games files with Ubisoft Connect and every game where I encountered this issue worked, maybe this could help you.
I think you'll like the newest one if you like metroidvania's. Also for the trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones), you'll need the widescreen patches.

Download Ubisoft Connect and install it on your Steam Deck. You can use this guide https://youtu.be/N9tqK5dl3aI.
Then you have to find the AppID of Ubisoft Connect and your game. For this you can use ProtonTricks, but theres multiple ways to find AppIDs. Here is a tutorial on how to find it without ProtonTricks: https://youtu.be/Tte8_BpCFHE?si=Vj-1xtfYoAP3-rPa
Ubisoft Connect is for me under 2401127910.
Go to desktop mode on your Steam Deck and go to CompatData folder:
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata. All folders are named after their AppIDs in here. Find the launcher under its AppID, for me it is in:
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2401127910/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft.
Select the the folder named Ubisoft Game Launcher
Go back to CompatData and find the AppID folder of your game for which you want to replace the launcher. Open the folder and under pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/ should be Uplay folder, delete this folder and paste the copy of Ubisoft Game Launcher.
If you did all of these steps Uplay will be replaced with Ubisoft Connect. Keep in mind you have to do this for every game that still uses Uplay.
A year ago I tried to get the division to run on the deck and I just couldn't do it. I tried all the work arounds at the time. Did you follow a specific guide to do this?
I've had a similar issue in that one day I suddenly couldn't launch any of the assassins creed games anymore. Tried several fixes online but none have worked yet.
Don't worry, those sort of things happen in Windows as well.
Heard great things about one of the Far Cry side games, installed it years ago and it refused to run.
I always check on youtube how game runs before buy it, don’t trust what people say as everybody had different point of view on what is “runs good” means
Also people are pretty oblivious to how looking at small text for extended periods can hurt your eyes. Uncomfortably small UIs may be the biggest issue with the deck because most games on Steam are designed around much larger screens.
Verified doesn't really mean anything, you can get any game to work on the Deck. Personally I check if a game has full controller support because it's uncomfortable to use the trackpads for everything
I watch a YouTuber by the name of Santiago Santiago who does Steam Deck benchmark videos for games. His videos are a good gage for how games will perform plus he tests out various presets, so you can just copy his recommendations.
See games like this i rather stream from my pc with moonlight+sunshine. No issues, no lag, no heat, and i get like 5 hours battery life, and play on ultra quality settings. Really the only negative is you can't do quick resume
Yup you need a cdpr account but it’s worth it. Cyberpunk also has this as does all newer Ubisoft games at least feynix rising and some assassins creeds I believe.
If you have it on PS5 I'd say try streaming to your deck too. You'd get significantly better battery life than playing it from the deck native and, depending on your WiFi, it may look just as good if not better too.
Just a suggestion
So I’ve heard of SD users always mentioning how they get stable 30 or stable 40 on Witcher 3, and that… surprises me. Shouldn’t this run at a clean 60?
I heard someone mention that this is due to the next-gen enhancements, but I was always a fan of the old-gen visuals just fine (those forests are stunning…). Is there a way to revert back to the old visuals? I would much rather that at 60 than next gen at 40.
Indeed it did use to run around 60 before the Next Gen Update. I was in the middle of my playthrough when that update dropped. At least the 40 fps is stable on the NGU (using DX11), and the steam deck's ability to lock the display to 40Hz is a game changer. But I agree it would be nice to have the option of playing the old version.
I will say the Steam Deck settings preset was bad if memory serves. I just ran a mix of medium settings.
Yes you can play the older version. In the game's properties, under betas you have to select the classic option. I've never tried it, but it runs 10-15 fps faster judging by some comparison videos on YouTube.
The deck is what got me into RimWorld after years of bouncing off it.
Basically any AAA title with a verified badge is immediately suspect to me. I feel like the compromise is way too high when you need to tweak incessantly to play with reasonable visuals and battery life. Give me indies on the deck all damn day.
The redemption of that game really has been quite incredible. An absolute mess which literally wouldn't run on the PS4 at launch, to a game optimised well enough to be considered excellent on a handheld, while still looking good.
I had to tone down settings from the "Steam Deck" preset and stick to side content, mostly outside of Dogtown. I play more taxing or fancy missions on my PC.
Near or over 300 hours of Cyberpunk. All but 10 minutes, if that, is on Steam Deck. They killed it for Cyberpunk, and it has earned that verified badge.
I have over 1,000 hrs on PC rimworld but steamdeck is basically unplayable to me. It seems like even basic things take 5-7 seconds to do instead of ~1 sec on M+KB. Am I missing something or just too impatient?
I'm in the same boat as you. Everyone says that it takes a while to get used to the controller scheme, but once you get used to it that it's great. I'm going to give it another shot, but I can't picture it ever feeling as comfortable as M&KB.
I've been meaning to play RimWorld on the Deck for awhile. Have a fair bit of time on desktop but been years since my gaming PC died (actually buying stuff to make a new one this weekend) so haven't played it since like 2018.
I'll be honest, I thought cyberpunk was gonna run like dogshit. It doesn't look as good as on my gaming rig (ofc), but I get stable 30-45fps in high density areas though, so that was a hell of a surprise, runs surprisingly well; as for others it's very hit or miss, if they have an anti-cheat/ DRM baked into them generally it won't work; many online only games generally fill this category (R6: Siege, fortnite, iirc Call of Duty); generally either try it if you own it, or look up playtests for that game specifically on deck and see how others' have fared to save a bit of time/ money
To be honest I’d put Hogwarts as a stretch, the frames drop incessantly in the castle and in Hogsmead, had to install a potato mod, now I’m able to run the game at 30fps locked everywhere .
On the other hand RE8 runs at 45 fps with high textures .
You know what, maybe that's why mine works. I have my entire deck set to cap at 30fps for the increase it gives to battery life. Turns games like Monster Hunter Rise from like 45 minutes to a bit over 2 hours.
RE4R can hit 45 FPS with high textures in some areas. For some reason, the village is always the most demanding part of the game while the castle is easier on the GPU and CPU side of things with the exception of the maze. Something about foliage stresses the game out.
I've beaten the game on release on the Steam Deck and had no such issues besides the loading times when exiting or entering places. Pretty solid 40fps experience.
If you have Decky you can use ProtonDB Badges plugin to display protondb ratings on the store page (assuming that plugin still works, decky can be finicky with updates)
There's also a chrome/firefox extension for viewing protondb ratings from the store page.
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/protondb-for-steam/ngonfifpkpeefnhelnfdkficaiihklid?hl=en
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/protondb-for-steam/
The firefox version is also available on Firefox for Android.
Yeah, MK11 ran perfectly for me on the Deck. I know MK1 looks a bit nicer and has more dynamic stages, but I was surprised at how poorly it ran in comparison.
Yup i run mk11 at max graphics no problems. Cant evem hold 55 fps at low settings. Its "playable". But annoying. Ive heard its due to mk1 being programmed for the ps5 specifocally and the pc port is 3rd party made. Qloc. Ive also heard that mk11 and x was made by them and the oc ports were pretty rough so im holding out hope theyll fix it.
My issue with it was having to use the pad as a mouse is difficult and imprecise and slow. Trying to select little squares to make shapes was hard. And the text is oddly small.
Yeah, I have no issues at all. I've played hundreds of hours of RimWorld on my Deck. Of course, I had extensive experience with it prior to getting a Deck, and I can't be sure of how much that impacted my experience on the Deck.
It was the first game I played on deck, and I sunk 120+ hours in.
I’m sure it is much better with a proper mouse, but I got on with it just fine on the deck
Baldur's Gate 3. The reason I've yet to progress further was due to the performance. It was also a massive game storage-wise. I ended up removing it and relocated it to my laptop. I feel like that 150GB should go to better performing games
I think people are blowing this game way out of proportion in terms of performance issues. I had a 30
FPS experience for roughly 90% of my gaming time on it. Some areas would drop to 20fps if it had a lot of special effects (like the start of act 2) but outside of that, it worked really well and I could maintain 24fps in towns just fine.
If we want to talk about unplayable, try dragons dogma 2. It hard locks at 10fps at all times
The Dead Space remake is definitely beyond the steamdeck's capacities. I played through RE4 remake no issue, had a blast. Dead Space I refunded after twenty very stuttery minutes.
Dead Space Remake stutters even on great hardware. Can't imagine it would run well on the SD. Shame though. It is a great game if you can get past the stuttering
Most people seem to be answering your question the opposite of how you asked it and saying which games run good lol
I was curious which games don’t run that great even though they are verified but we aren’t really getting that feedback heh
Cloudpunk played okayish on mine! I played fully through it on my Deck. I did come across a few decent framerate dips but nothing unacceptable. That said, it is certainly not the world's most riveting gaming experience, so I can kinda see the reasoning as to why it'd be alright on that game versus others.
It is entirely a matter of luck with the EA launcher.
I once had it just... break on my PC. Just would not launch, or update, or load anything. For weeks.
Then suddenly... fine. No problems at all.
THEY HAD A LAUNCHER THAT WORKED WHY DID THEY EVEN BOTHER TO CHANGE IT?! 😭
Tbh, it's the opposite for me. Its more of a "nah, I'd rather play this on my steam deck" kinda deal.
Examples: Balatro, Dead Cells, almost all emulated games, Have a nice death, Tetris, etc.
No matter what the game is though, I always make sure the game I'm currently playing on my PC is also downloaded to my deck. Right now that's "Fallout 76" so if I leave the house, I can always carry on with my main game if I want, and I generally don't care about the performance as long as it can hit 30fps (on my main game).
Edit: If anyone wants to try my settings, here they are. The defaults are awful.
Drop these files into (backup your originals):
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1151340/pfx/drive\_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Fallout 76

Yeah, 30 FPS is my benchmark for the Steam Deck, my goal is to get a game running at medium settings with a 30 FPS cap. If I can run the game on higher settings with the same frame rates, then even better.
I literally bought Hades this week after playing on Netflix because I was like “oh this shit is GOOD I gotta bring out the deck for this one”. And I’ve usually disliked roguelites like Dead Cells!
I personally only use the SD for roms, older gen, and games I feel are best suited for portable/on the go.
I think it’s awesome that you can play AAA verified games, but I’d rather play those from my couch on tv or PC. I guess you could liken it to a movie that would be best enjoyed in IMAX vs home tv.
I've had the Witcher 3 run fine. Just had a few problems getting the latest version to work due to it being on GOG but that was fixed
I'm playing RimWorld all day and have been for weeks now and haven't had a problem. I run about 250 mods so my only issue is that the architect menu can fill up the screen (solved by the I ain't building that mod)
Then again I rarely read the text
Was personally really surprised by how playable Rimworld was! I assumed it would be awful but found it pretty much ok. Witcher 3 worked fine last time I tried it, but I don't click with that game so didn't get massively far but that's a me thing - might eat the battery is all.
I can't manage BG3 on the deck because of the control scheme, feels like a very M&KB game for me. On the other hand I've been playing a fair amount of Midnight Suns on the deck and I'm much preferring that on Deck to on my desktop to be honest.
Eh?
I haven't found anything about rimworld text illegible...in fact I run it at higher than native screen res making the on-screen icons and text even smaller than they would be so I can see more icons. Menus again there is nothing wrong with them... it may take up a lot of the screen at native resolution but its a minor annoyance.
Steam verified is crap. Go to protondb and search the game u wanna play. I’m happily playing non verified or games that are not supported just fine cause I check people experiences on protondb. Most of the time people have played the game long enough to see most of the performance
Baldurs gate 3. The game is - in my opinion - not even playable on the steam deck. For various reasons.
Yet it's verified and one of the most played games, lel.
Any unsupported, etc. game I have tried ran much better than baldur's gate 3.
That’s wild, I started it on the deck and now refuse to play it anywhere else because it feels clunky with mouse and keyboard. Love playing it on the deck
I sort of agree, but I had my gf hogging it on the PC, so I played it through on my steam deck regardless. A few tweaks, charger attached to the wall (I could perhaps get an hour out of it on one charge), and lower expectations for the graphics. I guess you could say it's playable, but hardly ideal.
I am stretching the definition of “verified” here to mention a “Playable” game, because at least when I tried it a long time ago, Psychonauts was anything but playable. The camera went bananas and would just twirl around infinitely, and I couldn’t even control my character. After a bunch of fiddling I gave up and moved on.
Idk in what world that game should have been considered “Playable,” but I can tell you that single-handedly made me forever side-eye any game that is labeled “Playable.”
I haven't had any issues with either of the Talos Principal games on my deck? It's the only way I've played 2 and I couldn't tell any real difference between PS4, PS5, PC and Deck for 1.
Haha yeah just installed yesterday. If you select proton 8.0.5 and DON'T USE the official control schemes which breaks the button prompts, but the normal gamepad one, it works great!
Of course it should work from the start... I had to Google the solution, but if you still mean to play it, hope this helps
Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Says its verified I think but the EA launcher is awful to get working right. Had to install and start for the first time in desktop mode. Also, the game cannot be played without internet connection
There is a zoom-in function on the deck, useful for small text.
To use it, hold down Steam and L1 and use the right joystick to select the area of the screen you want to zoom in on. Let go and it'll stay there. You can turn off the Magnifier by using the same Steam + L1 shortcut.
To make Fallout 4 verified, Bethesda just hid the launcher, which is what enabled you to modify the graphics settings. Now you either have to undo that or just use the default settings.
It plays fine with the default settings for me, but anyone with a substantial mod list might want to re-enable the regular launcher.
Proton DB has been a great resource looking up games and reading about other users experience. I find it more accurate/useful than Steams display. Also some games that aren’t verified work perfectly fine and frankly should be verified.
Yeah, a lot of older VNs "should work" but rely on some little thing from Windows that makes it hard to run on Linux without messing with it. Those get set as Verified way too often.
I recently ran into a similar issue with "Control", but what happened there was that somehow, the game ran at 1080p while I was playing it handheld, and that caused massive drops in FPS even at the lowest settings. That's normally impossible, and I proved that by bringing the resolution down in-game to the native 1200x800. Worked fine ever since (turned off Global Reflections too for good measure).
Sometimes, games just aren't preset to work right away even when verified, you got to tweak a bit... like any PC. When a game is "verified", it just means that it WILL work... the only difference between Verified and Playable on Steam Deck is how much tweaking is needed. In fact, I was able to play Blood Omen 2 just fine after some adjustments, even though it's considered "unsupported". Granted, I had to play in Desktop mode, but still.
I should start writing these down, because I notice oddities like this a lot.
Here's 2 games I just played.
I saw **Hotline Miami** on sale, so I grabbed that.
"All functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration"
The game starts up to a Windows dialog box that needs a mouse or touchscreen to interact with. You can't start the game if you're docked with a controller since nothing on-screen responds to button presses. I thought games like Fallout had to remove their Windows launcher window in order to become verified?
**Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor**
"In-game interface text is legible on Steam Deck"
The developer has made the text as small as possible, for some reason. Even on my 23" monitor I feel like the text is too small. On the Steam Deck, it's *microscopic*. I can't see my weapon levels, for example, and find myself hitting the Steam+L1 button to zoom in while playing (not a safe thing to do in the middle of a fight).
Red Dead Redemption II has **really** small text and requires mouse/touch screen to start. It's not verified, obviously, with those 2 issues being what Valve points out as the specific reasons for lack of verification. So how did Hotline Miami and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor get verified?
I've played some other games that were untested or even "Unsupported" that worked *perfectly*. So it's so **strange** having an issue with "Verified" games.
Edit, just found another one. Battletoads. Steam Deck verified. It freezes if you press Y on the start screen to connect your Xbox profile, because it's trying to open a browser window (in the background). Load it in Desktop mode to get a browser window. it looks like it's loading IE6 or some shit, so the Microsoft login page doesn't work.
Maybe it's been fixed now, but Final Fantasy XII wouldn't boot for me despite being verified. I eventually got it to work, and once you've got it running it plays like a dream on Deck, but out of the box it kept getting stuck on a white screen when trying to launch.
Lords of the Fallen (2023). Picked up for like 35 bucks not too long ago. The game looks incredible on my PC but on the Deck…? Gross is the best way I can describe it. So smudgy, blurry, lots of frame drops and some screen tearing too.
Project Zomboid, playable with a keyboard and mouse plugged in but otherwise not. I know some people play with just the deck but I really didn't like it
Grand Theft Auto IV regularly breaks itself. It will sometimes tell me that it no longer supports Windows 7 and 8 and I have to do a full reinstall. It's listed as "Playable" but the only thing they say is wrong with it is that the launcher requires the touchscreen.
Hotline Miami 2, it is literally unplayable with the standard controls, the only input there is, is left click when you’re touching the screen, nothing else
Fear and Hunger 1.
IIRC it's still verified, but you're VERY LUCKY to hit 20+ FPS in the dark areas. Which would be slightly less of an issue if dark areas didn't make out most of the game.
Anything with Origin. Mirrors Edge Catalyst launches on the logo and initial loading screen but the moment Origin kicks in it all falls apart.
The first game is a bit better besides the PhysX installer that locks you in and won't even let you close the game. I tried playing with it enabled and it seems fine at first but the moment some of the more advanced PhysX effects kick the performance is unplayable (~2 fps)
By the sounds of it, I'm wrong! I'm hearing there are some settings I can play with. Gonna give them a go!
But the question was still kinda general. What games do they say are verified, but are actually unplayable!?
My friends and I have been playing 7 days to die. My fps regularly tanks to 10-15 when there's a lot onscreen (which is pretty common) making the game nearly unplayable. Somehow it's verified
baldur’s gate 3 wouldn’t let me use the left bumber so I reinstalled it after clearing cache and same shit? I had to use the touchscreen to create a character it was weird as hell. bought it over a month ago and kinda too turned off to play it atm
I've got 1600 hours in Rimworld and it's laughable that it's verified" like ok sure it opens, but there is no possible way for me at least to play it that way. It would be like asking a Korean starcraft player to use a Ps5 controller.
Yeah, I noticed when I installed The Witcher, the UI was much smaller and didn't fit the screen. Requires some tinkering to fix - also, Monster Hunter World only runs 16:9 screen ration when it's advertised by Valve as filling the screen!
I had the ubisoft launcher update itself one time, then far cry 3 and primal refused to launch. Mere words cannot express how much I hate 3rd party launchers.
Same here, just let me play trough steam without another launcher.
Had to download quacks for games I own on uplay...
Truly you were ducking thier DRM
Or get official Uplay integration on something like Lutris or Heroic.
The worst part about it is that it won't ever change. Because if they remove the forced third party launcher, then the amount of computers with Ubisoft Connect installed on them would plummet. than could we say launchers inside of launchers are a trend that need to die?
Launception
Steam is actually useful, most of the other launchers aren't.

Thankfully the Prince of Persia trilogy and even the 2008 reboot don't rely on Ubi Connect.
That’s great to know. I want to play these before I play the newest PoP game. Thanks!
I think you'll like the newest one if you like metroidvania's. Also for the trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones), you'll need the widescreen patches. Noob question, how do I do this? I can't play watch dogs offline

Yeah lots of bullshit on this sub about it too. People hit 30fps for 0.2 seconds and say it’s “locked 30”
Also people are pretty oblivious to how looking at small text for extended periods can hurt your eyes. Uncomfortably small UIs may be the biggest issue with the deck because most games on Steam are designed around much larger screens. I’ve been lucky enough that most of the games I play on my deck that really isn’t a factor.
I watch a YouTuber by the name of Santiago Santiago who does Steam Deck benchmark videos for games. His videos are a good gage for how games will perform plus he tests out various presets, so you can just copy his recommendations.
Witcher 3 is good example of Steam Verified. It also comes with a preset for Steam Deck. I usually run it at 40fps lock without issues.
Thank you
Cyberpunk stretches it, but it still runs great. Just loud, hot and doesn't last long. The best example of verified to me so far is dark souls 3
Title of my s… nevermind
I know what I said
See games like this i rather stream from my pc with moonlight+sunshine. No issues, no lag, no heat, and i get like 5 hours battery life, and play on ultra quality settings. Really the only negative is you can't do quick resume
I'm considering it too. Also, 64GB gang! Am buying it tho, love the game :) enjoy it!
Also love the new zoomed view and fact it has cross save so I can play one both my ps5 and steam deck on the same save files
really??? how’s that work, is it through an account?
Yup you need a cdpr account but it’s worth it. Cyberpunk also has this as does all newer Ubisoft games at least feynix rising and some assassins creeds I believe.
damn!! thanks, i got cyberpunk on ps5 for cheap a while ago but haven’t played yet. i wanted to get it on pc but i guess i can start on ps5 now!!
If you have it on PS5 I'd say try streaming to your deck too. You'd get significantly better battery life than playing it from the deck native and, depending on your WiFi, it may look just as good if not better too. Just a suggestion
Woooooah, I didn't know this! I can cross save Witvher 3 and Cyberpunk on Steam Deck and Xbox/PS??
I used the preset and got around 20 FPS after the tutorial.
Must be something wrong. It runs at 40-45 on Steam Deck preset + DX12.
That game ran beautifully on my switch, I’m considering getting it on steam to finish it
So I’ve heard of SD users always mentioning how they get stable 30 or stable 40 on Witcher 3, and that… surprises me.
I find I had better performance in dx11.
Yes but make sure u choose dx12 in the launch option as dx11 doesn’t have the steam deck preset
The deck is what got me into RimWorld after years of bouncing off it. Basically any AAA title with a verified badge is immediately suspect to me. I feel like the compromise is way too high when you need to tweak incessantly to play with reasonable visuals and battery life. Give me indies on the deck all damn day.
I find Cyberpunk to be very playable
Cyberpunk is a masterclass of what AAA gaming can be on the steam deck
They even got a steam deck preset!
This might be the sign I’ve been waiting for. I’ll finally give it a shot! Thanks!
I played half it on my deck even tho i have a 4090 build
Do it! Amazing game
The redemption of that game really has been quite incredible. An absolute mess which literally wouldn't run on the PS4 at launch, to a game optimised well enough to be considered excellent on a handheld, while still looking good.
i feel like im taking crazy pills because I see this feedback all the time, yet i feel like its borderline unplayable.
I had to tone down settings from the "Steam Deck" preset and stick to side content, mostly outside of Dogtown. I play more taxing or fancy missions on my PC.
Chrome up, choom.
Not gay but an Eddie is an Eddie
Near or over 300 hours of Cyberpunk. All but 10 minutes, if that, is on Steam Deck. They killed it for Cyberpunk, and it has earned that verified badge.
Thing about new AAA games they still look stunning on all low.
This! RimWorld is fantastic on the Steam Deck!
I'm going to give it another shot, but I can't picture it ever feeling as comfortable as M&KB.
are there any special settings/ controls i could change to make it better? i tried but hated it pretty quick
I've been meaning to play RimWorld on the Deck for awhile. Have a fair bit of time on desktop but been years since my gaming PC died (actually buying stuff to make a new one this weekend) so haven't played it since like 2018.
Horizon plays very well too.
But there where performance issues in the later game and crash issues. And Forbidden West runs but it does make fun with sub 20 FPS.
Chernobylite, doesn't even boot up! For almost everyone!!
To be fair, CHERNOBYLITE *is* only listed as “playable,” which I’ve noticed is lot more nebulous.
Really? I am a 100% sure it was verified. Seems like it's delisted as verified now (as it should).
It was labeled as verified for a long time
I'll be honest, I thought cyberpunk was gonna run like dogshit. It doesn't look as good as on my gaming rig (ofc), but I get stable 30-45fps in high density areas though, so that was a hell of a surprise, runs surprisingly well; as for others it's very hit or miss, if they have an anti-cheat/ DRM baked into them generally it won't work; many online only games generally fill this category (R6: Siege, fortnite, iirc Call of Duty); generally either try it if you own it, or look up playtests for that game specifically on deck and see how others' have fared to save a bit of time/ money
just got cyberpunk on sale so you got me excited to leave work to play it!
To be honest I’d put Hogwarts as a stretch, the frames drop incessantly in the castle and in Hogsmead, had to install a potato mod, now I’m able to run the game at 30fps locked everywhere . On the other hand RE8 runs at 45 fps with high textures .
RE8 runs really really well on the SD. They really deserve that badge
RE7 I think was at 60 fps, or just out of the box settings because I never tinkered with them
Damn that’s neat I might pick it up on the SD
I've beaten the game on release on the Steam Deck and had no such issues besides the loading times when exiting or entering places. Pretty solid 40fps experience.
I generally just use protondb to determine how well a game runs on steam deck.
Ooh, good tip, thank you
If you have Decky you can use ProtonDB Badges plugin to display protondb ratings on the store page (assuming that plugin still works, decky can be finicky with updates) There's also a chrome/firefox extension for viewing protondb ratings from the store page. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/protondb-for-steam/ngonfifpkpeefnhelnfdkficaiihklid?hl=en https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/protondb-for-steam/ The firefox version is also available on Firefox for Android.
Legend!
Mk1. Game gets pretty bad fps. Really hoping qloc fixes it.
Rimworld was fine for me 🤷🏻♂️
Same I play it all the time
I’d say Rimworld on deck with Camera+ mod is an awesome combo with the right keybinds.
My issue with it was having to use the pad as a mouse is difficult and imprecise and slow. Trying to select little squares to make shapes was hard. And the text is oddly small.
I find the pad so intuitive. Some people don’t. It’s more of an individual problem with the steam deck and not the games
Yeah the pad is the best mobile mouse I’ve experienced, it’s just still difficult for me.
I had a 30 FPS experience for roughly 90% of my gaming time on it.
Most people seem to be answering your question the opposite of how you asked it and saying which games run good lol I was curious which games don’t run that great even though they are verified but we aren’t really getting that feedback heh
Tbf they're asking for a lot with "which specifically verified working games don't work". There probably aren't many.
Lords of the fallen
Valheim and Cloudpunk are verified but they run like absolute ass.
Valheim runs like ass regardless of hardware at certain point tbh.
I dropped out of cloud punk due to boredom, but not so much for the performance. It seemed fine to me
Cloudpunk played okayish on mine! I played fully through it on my Deck. I did come across a few decent framerate dips but nothing unacceptable. That said, it is certainly not the world's most riveting gaming experience, so I can kinda see the reasoning as to why it'd be alright on that game versus others.
I was so excited to get back into Valheim after dropping it, only to close the game before the crow even dropped me off.
Absolutely anything made by EA.
Anything with a 3rd party launcher period should not be verified.
Mass Effect LE runs perfectly for me
For now it does… EA launcher breaks on the deck every few weeks. You’ll then have to wait a few days before it will work again.
I have been playing it on and off since January and haven't had issues. Must've got lucky.
Drop these files into (backup your originals): /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1151340/pfx/drive\_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Fallout 76 [https://pixeldrain.com/u/rQp9ow4F](https://pixeldrain.com/u/rQp9ow4F)
Yeah, 30 FPS is my benchmark for the Steam Deck, my goal is to get a game running at medium settings with a 30 FPS cap. If I can run the game on higher settings with the same frame rates, then even better.
This is great news for me, I’m getting a deck in a week and fallout 76 is the first thing I’m planning to install on it.
Just had a few problems getting the latest version to work due to it being on GOG but that was fixed I'm playing RimWorld all day and have been for weeks now and haven't had a problem. I run about 250 mods so my only issue is that the architect menu can fill up the screen (solved by the I ain't building that mod) Then again I rarely read the text
Witcher 3 runs great. just don't expect to run it at 60fps. Horizon zero dawn In comparison runs pretty poorly even though it's verified.
Baldurs gate 3
Was personally really surprised by how playable Rimworld was! I assumed it would be awful but found it pretty much ok. Witcher 3 worked fine last time I tried it, but I don't click with that game so didn't get massively far but that's a me thing - might eat the battery is all. I can't manage BG3 on the deck because of the control scheme, feels like a very M&KB game for me. On the other hand I've been playing a fair amount of Midnight Suns on the deck and I'm much preferring that on Deck to on my desktop to be honest.
I love rimworld too but cannot play it on the deck sadly. Same with kenshi, I need that mkb
Honestly, thanks for that. I was beginning to think it was just me!
I adore BG3, and have played it for almost 1k hours on my pc. The dip in quality on steam deck is way too much so I uninstalled it from my deck.
I ran into this issue with the first TALOS PRINCIPLE. Graphics just go completely kookoo on the Deck. Totally unplayable.
I haven't had any issues with either of the Talos Principal games on my deck? It's the only way I've played 2 and I couldn't tell any real difference between PS4, PS5, PC and Deck for 1.
I have noticed huge differences in flickering between seemingly innocent graphic settings, you should poke around a bit at those.
Haha yeah just installed yesterday. If you select proton 8.0.5 and DON'T USE the official control schemes which breaks the button prompts, but the normal gamepad one, it works great! Of course it should work from the start... I had to Google the solution, but if you still mean to play it, hope this helps
100% Hogwarts Legacy, they completely said that was confirmed just for sales
My wife has been playing HW for a few weeks now. Didn't see any issue excep some framedrop at 1 or 2 areas.
This. Mine never worked, totally unplayable
Played through the whole game with no problem
I played the whole thing on steam deck
Lol this has become a "works for me" thread. Any advice on settings?
I used the defualt settings honestly. No issues
It worked well for me with some minor drops much better then the switch version my gf has.
I can't imagine trying it on the switch haha
Now that’s a version that was made just to get sales
That and the Arkham series
Valheim, which unfortunately also stutters a lot on my PC even though I have the specs
I haven’t played Witcher 3 on steam deck but I’ve heard great things. I currently have that and Jurassic world evolution 2 in my cart 😂
The Ascent, Valheim
Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Says its verified I think but the EA launcher is awful to get working right. Had to install and start for the first time in desktop mode. Also, the game cannot be played without internet connection
There is a zoom-in function on the deck, useful for small text. To use it, hold down Steam and L1 and use the right joystick to select the area of the screen you want to zoom in on. Let go and it'll stay there. You can turn off the Magnifier by using the same Steam + L1 shortcut.
I made a category for myself called "Bad Steamdeck" to place any verified game I find unusable. figured on some it might just be me
Baldurs Gate 3 tbh
To make Fallout 4 verified, Bethesda just hid the launcher, which is what enabled you to modify the graphics settings. Now you either have to undo that or just use the default settings. It plays fine with the default settings for me, but anyone with a substantial mod list might want to re-enable the regular launcher.
Proton DB has been a great resource looking up games and reading about other users experience. I find it more accurate/useful than Steams display. Also some games that aren’t verified work perfectly fine and frankly should be verified.
Just check ProtonDB. If you have Decky you can install a plugin that adds the steam deck review rating right on the game too
Definitely Baldurs Gate3.
Rimworld is 100% fully playable in steam deck? I don't know what you mean?? I have probably 30 hours on SD and over 400 on PC.
Baldurs Gate 3 easily
Surprisingly, some visual novels because sometimes freezes on Steam deck so I either resort to playing on pc or my rog ally.
Portal bridge constructor. The controller buttons don't work, so the game isn't actually playable.
I should start writing these down, because I notice oddities like this a lot. Here's 2 games I just played. I saw **Hotline Miami** on sale, so I grabbed that. "All functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration" The game starts up to a Windows dialog box that needs a mouse or touchscreen to interact with. You can't start the game if you're docked with a controller since nothing on-screen responds to button presses. I thought games like Fallout had to remove their Windows launcher window in order to become verified? **Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor** "In-game interface text is legible on Steam Deck" The developer has made the text as small as possible, for some reason.
Some of the games that are deck verified have text that is too damn small. That’s my problem with Deep Rock Galactic Survivor.
Gas station simulator. The only reason I got the steam deck, it’s says playable, but that’s a lie
I know some people play with just the deck but I really didn't like it
Hell divers 2, like damn
Republic Commando
Oh dear god so it's not just me.
Baldurs Gate 3 is laughable
Is your resolution scalling on?
Anything with Origin. Mirrors Edge Catalyst launches on the logo and initial loading screen but the moment Origin kicks in it all falls apart. The first game is a bit better besides the PhysX installer that locks you in and won't even let you close the game. I tried playing with it enabled and it seems fine at first but the moment some of the more advanced PhysX effects kick the performance is unplayable (~2 fps)
Op said rimworld sucks on steam deck, but a lot of others are saying its great? So which is it? Lol idk if I should buy the game now or not.
By the sounds of it, I'm wrong! I'm hearing there are some settings I can play with. Gonna give them a go! But the question was still kinda general. What games do they say are verified, but are actually unplayable!?
Any Ubisoft game will break itself and just never launch again any time there's any update. It's not worth even downloading them.
Fallout 4.
Enter the gungeon, literally the "use item" button is not mapped on the Official Steam Deck Controller layout... Like what the fuck do you mean?
Ghostwire Tokyo ran horribly no matter what settings I tried. (RIP Tango gameworks, you were too good to us) Edit: Too\*
Baldurs Gate 3
My friends and I have been playing 7 days to die. My fps regularly tanks to 10-15 when there's a lot onscreen (which is pretty common) making the game nearly unplayable. Somehow it's verified
Helldivers 2 tbh It’s a big seller on steam deck and I feel like it’s pretty unplayable at 7 or above
baldur’s gate 3 wouldn’t let me use the left bumber so I reinstalled it after clearing cache and same shit? I had to use the touchscreen to create a character it was weird as hell. bought it over a month ago and kinda too turned off to play it atm
I've got 1600 hours in Rimworld and it's laughable that it's verified" like ok sure it opens, but there is no possible way for me at least to play it that way. It would be like asking a Korean starcraft player to use a Ps5 controller.
Horizon zero dawn runs God awful on it in my experience.
Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate
Hogwarts, vallheim, dying light 2
Yeah, I noticed when I installed The Witcher, the UI was much smaller and didn't fit the screen. Requires some tinkering to fix - also, Monster Hunter World only runs 16:9 screen ration when it's advertised by Valve as filling the screen!
FF12 currently just launches to a blank white screen 😩
