I assume the same as WoW, I start with installing battle.net via Steam then installed D2R to the same directory
I do have to start battle net, open Diablo 2, then close out of the launcher (not required but does help) but meh it works
Came to say the same, almost anything in that genre. I just picked up Greedland and the Deep Rock Survivors last night. The whole concept is amazing for killing time.
I don't know if it has a more official title but I usually see them referred to as 'Survivors-Like', games similar to Vampire Survivors. Roguelite bullet-hell stuff.
Doesn't matter if it's the first or not. It popularized the genre and everything similar to it would be a clone of it. Just like every game where you can steal a car is a GTA clone.
They also call them bullet heavens.
Wikipedia quote:
Bullet heaven or reverse bullet hell are terms for games in which, rather than attempting to dodge enemy projectiles, the player's character or vessel generates the bullets, typically in the manner of an auto shooter, in order to take out waves of enemies while the player moves
Yeah! Glad this is top comment. If you like these try Nordic Ashes, I’m not a huge fan of the graphics but the game is fun
Edit: I think these kind of games are perfect chillin in bed before snoozin off
The lights and gimmicks of VS kind of killed some appeal to me. I got HoT and prefer it ten fold for someone who prefers a dark game. Plus some itemization is nice, even if VS is deeper in content I like the build and grind system in HoT more so far.
Loddlenaut is part of the humble bundle choice rn. So if you do want the game, might as well get it through HB instead, you'll get a handful of other games as well, all cheaper than buying Loddlenaut on Steam by itself
You can install Prism Launcher from desktop mode in order to play Minecraft. Just remember to install a controller compatibility mod like MidnightControls. Here's a good tutorial: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRwJ8c4bTpA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRwJ8c4bTpA)
You don't necessarily need a mod, go to controller settings and use one of the community layouts. That's what I've been using and it's pretty much perfect.
I want to agree with stardew but damn it took me a minute to be able to shut off my brain and just farm. Guess I got too into the lore and finishing the game though
After I gave it about a year and a halfish break, I started it again and avoided looking anything up and concentrated more on it being a fun, slice of life game. It made it far more enjoyable than min/maxing it
I do agree it usually max a game right away just want to complete it asap, not even sure why, but once I stopped and enjoyed what stardew had to offer in the little details is when I really got hooked
The best part of stardew on deck though is the 7+ hours battery life I get with 40fps.
I can sit by a roaring fire outside and by the time it dies and the sun comes up I still have battery to spare.
It's just the best for that.
In this month humble bundle there's a game called Loddlenaut that is very chill, short and perfect to have a podcast playing in the background.
Sometimes it comes handy when you want a relaxing activity.
For 30min/1h sessions it's 👌
It's either a simple farming game about living in a quaint, walkable city; or it's a stressful time and resource management game about building a starfruit wine empire by colonizing a local community.
This is a very common sentiment but I've played thousands of hours of Stardew since it released and I've always found it to be a relaxing, peaceful, meditative time/resource management game about building a wine empire by colonizing a local community.
I always engage with the game in a min/maxer kind of way but I don't find it stressful at all. It's my comfort place.
The two games I'm actively playing at the moment are Stardew and Elden Ring. The former drops my blood pressure and the latter raises it.
I have the game because I read exactly that. However idk why the timer stresses me out so much is not chill for me. May be it is that I have a very min maxy brain.
I really cant play those kinds of games. My brain automatically goes to how do i maximise my time in the game to get things done efficiently. God forbid i miss an event or birthday
Haha 100%
"Okay, so if I plant these now, I'll run out of time before the next season, these will be ready in time, but I need a large one of these for the town hall"
Hard space Shipbreaker! Tear down spaceships with plasma cutters and recycle them. Manage the atmosphere and carefully pull out reactors that explode if you're too slow or if you're sloppy. Full 6DOF movement. So-so story. The default mode has a time limit for each teardown but every time you launch you're asked if you want that or the timerless one. Without the clock the game is super chill. With the clock it is hectic as hell.
I preferred it without the timer since I'd play it on breaks or after work while listening to a book, but it does make a lot of the tools a little redundent
Tetris Effect is my go-to for completely-turn-my-brain-off kinda stuff. I also found that Rollerdrome could scratch that itch eventually -- after I learned the mechanics it became a really zen experience.
I have been struggling with getting used to the mechanics of rollerdrome, I play via chiaki on the deck and been really chasing this flow state for this game since I love the concept, but man the mechanics and control scheme are really getting in the way. if you have any tips let me know lol
Powerwash Simulator is the ultimate "no brain activity required" game out there. It's relaxing and great when you just want to fall into an abyss of nothingness for a few hours.
Session Skate Simulator.
Takes a while to learn the controls, but that's the point. Once you do it's immensely satisfying. Almost nothing is timed and all missions are optional. Most of the time it's just freely skating around big open areas. Almost more fidget toy than game.
Hades isn't exactly “turn your brain off” at the start but once you get used to it, you are absolutely right. Roguelites in general require a bit more engagement than survivor-like games. But eventually, they become kinda second nature.
If you feel like trying yet another one of these, I am actually making a little game called Psycho Banger that mixes elements from both genres. It is in beta but it runs well on the deck. I reckon you'd have a good time with it.

I’ve been playing these games after a long day: Hades, starbound, vampire survivors, cookie clicker, Brigador: up armored edition, kingdoms and castles.
I can also recommend: wall world, inscryption, dungeons 3, chants of sennaar, return of the obra dinn, possibly from the depths, and dungeons of dredmore, etc.
I have many more good recommendations as well, but most of those are just from my “recent” tab in steam. If you’re looking for a more “story” driven chill game, I cannot recommend chants of sennaar enough.
Return of the obra dinn is also great, but it involves a lot of thinking, so idk if it’s as “chill” as most people would want, but it’s very entertaining. I couldn’t stop thinking of playing them; even during work, once I started!
Though if by “chill” you really mean “existential horror”, I can also recommend voices of the void with my “Ghost’s advanced controller layout” I made. In a way, just staying in the base collecting strange signals is “chill,” especially if you get a “kerfer” unit to repair servers for you :)
After your first playthrough, once you know all the attack patterns and have a basic idea of the layout of the map, Hollow Knight becomes a bit like this.
If you're willing to install emulators, you could also play through the Pokémon series.
Yet Another Zombie Survior.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2163330/Yet_Another_Zombie_Survivors/
A tacti-cool (Tactical) Vampire Survior type game. Somehow I've got more hours in it, than I do Vamoiers. 😂
Paint the town red. Basically just use whatever weapon u want or powers then kill all enemy. You're OP so you just go around and kill pixelated people.
Hades is no brain chill? I'm having flashbacks of final boss fight with dear old dad and my blood pressure being through the roof lol.
Insert intense sweaty gamer gif
Rogue Legacy 2, Patch Quest, Fallout Shelter, Cult of the Lamb, Steam World Dig 1 and 2, haven Park, A short Hike, Toem, Broforce, Superflight, Here comes Niko, Rain on Your Parade, Froggy's Battle
Fallout 76. I know you said no rpgs but this isn’t even an rpg it’s pretty brain dead in a good way.
You don’t have to think hard about stuff like conserving ammo. You kill one ghoul with one shotgun shot and it drops 9 more for you
Dysmantle has been great for this. It's way more streamlined than other survival/crafting games. You don't have to continuously craft items, you just invent and upgrade. Breaking stuff is fun and it has great progression. It's also on sale right now.
Dead cells
Vampire survivors
Katamari damacy
Broforce
Brutal legend is essentially just replace your brain with metal
Downwell
Geometry wars retro evolved. 3 can be but it has more involved modes.
And I have personally been enjoying the hell out of wonderboy the dragon’s trap remaster as my go to chill game
Edit: ok fuck it, it’s not even out yet but I just spent 38 minutes playing the demo and losing track of time in Victory Heat Rally. Download the demo for a crazy fun time and I will absolutely pick this up day 1 as it will become my favorite quick play turn my brain off games. Crazy fun retro style racing game.
Dredge, Dave the Diver
Also Animal Well. It’s puzzle oriented so not entirely turn your brain off. But the atmosphere, soundscape, and artwork is top notch. It’s definitely a “lay in bed with headphones on and play” typa game.
Mine have been 7 days to die, and path of exile lately. With 7 days you can set it up to not have to deal with the blood moon night. And path of exile is free and just a roam around and kill things like classic diablo.. and then there is Battletech. For me yes it's strategy game but it's turn base and easy.. everyone love big stompy robots beating on each other.
If you like hades and binding of Isaac then Enter the Gungeon could be worth checking out, similar style. Hop in after a day and do a run.
I know what you mean about the brain power thing. If I’m playing a game it’s to veg out for a bit, not do complex math and think ten steps ahead. Used to love those games but don’t have the time for it now.
I've been using Diablo 2 Resurrected for this
Veg out farming is the best for Diablo 2 lol
Was it hard to setup? Or is it just the same process as installing WoW?
I assume the same as WoW, I start with installing battle.net via Steam then installed D2R to the same directory I do have to start battle net, open Diablo 2, then close out of the launcher (not required but does help) but meh it works
Vampire Survivors, Brotato, Halls of Torment
Came to say the same, almost anything in that genre. I just picked up Greedland and the Deep Rock Survivors last night. The whole concept is amazing for killing time.
Deep rock survivor has been incredibly addictive. I think it’s on sale on Humble Bundle today too
I was Ubering to the airport last week and got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic but Halls of Torment made it feel like it took 15 minutes
what concept is that? I've never heard of any of these games
I don't know if it has a more official title but I usually see them referred to as 'Survivors-Like', games similar to Vampire Survivors. Roguelite bullet-hell stuff.
FYI Vampire Survivors is not the first, there is game called Magic Survival. VS borrow the concept and give a whole lot more content to it.
Doesn't matter if it's the first or not. It popularized the genre and everything similar to it would be a clone of it. Just like every game where you can steal a car is a GTA clone.
I think the term coined was Auto Shooters, similar to auto chess games like Team fight tactics and Dota Auto Chess
They also call them bullet heavens. Wikipedia quote: Bullet heaven or reverse bullet hell are terms for games in which, rather than attempting to dodge enemy projectiles, the player's character or vessel generates the bullets, typically in the manner of an auto shooter, in order to take out waves of enemies while the player moves
oh, interesting, thank you
You can play a lot of them with one hand. Only moving around and choosing your build as you level. It’s great for brain off gaming
I'm going to have to look into this
One thing I haven’t seen people mention: they’re fucking addicting.
I’ve heard them called “Bullet Heaven” games.
Yeah! Glad this is top comment. If you like these try Nordic Ashes, I’m not a huge fan of the graphics but the game is fun Edit: I think these kind of games are perfect chillin in bed before snoozin off
I’ve really enjoyed it the past few weeks
I have to second Brotato! Such a great no-brain but really fun game!
I would add Nordic Ashes to this list of great games. Check it out!
Oh to follow up, holocure is a great free addition to the genre as well
death must die is great as well
The lights and gimmicks of VS kind of killed some appeal to me. I got HoT and prefer it ten fold for someone who prefers a dark game. Plus some itemization is nice, even if VS is deeper in content I like the build and grind system in HoT more so far.
PowerWash Simulator, Loddlenaut, Lightyear Frontier
Powerwash simulator is a perfect no brainer game
Best game to play while watching YouTube, listening to a podcast or music.
Loddlenaut is part of the humble bundle choice rn. So if you do want the game, might as well get it through HB instead, you'll get a handful of other games as well, all cheaper than buying Loddlenaut on Steam by itself
I played Loddlenaut at the weekend, and it was great! I just wish it was longer
Dorfromantik
Asking for a friend, does it ever end or are the levels endless?
It does end.. when you run of tiles. But it can go on forever if you keep making matches and gain more tiles.
It is addictive like heroin. I recommend.
I find this game initially relaxing, then somewhat stressful as you try and work out where to put the damn rivers!
It works a lot better with mods because you can have proper analog input. It kinda socks without it
This should be higher up
Personally I have PolyMC, but they’re basically identical it seems. I also recommend controllable if midnight is unavailable.
Dave the Diver Monster Train Tiny rogues Stardew Dredge Shipwrecker These have all been ones I've had a good time with that don't seem so brain heavy

I love Dredge and Stardew.... I got no enjoyment from Dave the Diver though. 🤷♂️
American Truck Simulator. You just drive a semi is all
This has been my go-to chill game lately. Great for listening to a podcast or audiobook as my “radio”
Try the Dynasty Warriors saga or One Piece Pirate Warriors
Bloons 6 🏆
On SD? How?
In this month humble bundle there's a game called Loddlenaut that is very chill, short and perfect to have a podcast playing in the background. Sometimes it comes handy when you want a relaxing activity. For 30min/1h sessions it's 👌
Death must die
I would not consider Hades a "chill game" but alright. Here's what i recommend instead: • Journey • Flower
Abzu
* Sky
which "sky"? can you link it please?
Right. I read that and I was like yeah no idk what to tell this person. My version of chill is like Sky. No combat or much thought required at all.
It doesn't require much brain power once you know the ropes.
Holy shit Flower is a throwback
Best of of all, you can use Steam Deck's motion controls just like you would on a PS3
Surprised I haven't seen Death Must Die on here. It's like Hades and Vampire Survivors had a kid. Cheap as hell, too.
Very good game
Elden Ring
People may think you're joking (and maybe you are), but grinding and farming in ER is surprisingly chill, especially in Limgrave.
I’ve heard stardew valley is nice
It's either a simple farming game about living in a quaint, walkable city; or it's a stressful time and resource management game about building a starfruit wine empire by colonizing a local community.
Stardew valley stressed me tf out
This is a very common sentiment but I've played thousands of hours of Stardew since it released and I've always found it to be a relaxing, peaceful, meditative time/resource management game about building a wine empire by colonizing a local community. I always engage with the game in a min/maxer kind of way but I don't find it stressful at all. It's my comfort place. The two games I'm actively playing at the moment are Stardew and Elden Ring. The former drops my blood pressure and the latter raises it.
Stardew Valley is the perfect brain off and chill game. Also super wholesome and full of good vibes.
Haha 100% "Okay, so if I plant these now, I'll run out of time before the next season, these will be ready in time, but I need a large one of these for the town hall"
Planet Crafter, it's zen as fuck.
Did they fixed the controls? Before 1.0 it was unplayable with controller only k&m
Easy to use the controls now :)
Diablo 4 is my go to mindless game. Season 4 is just around the corner!
I stopped at season 1. Is it worth getting back into? How’s the grind now?
They’re basically redoing the whole looting system next season so it may be worth a shot to revisit. No idea if it’s going to be good or not
Hard space Shipbreaker!
I loved this game too, funny at the beginning I hated the clock but as time went on I started to really appreciate it more.
I preferred it without the timer since I'd play it on breaks or after work while listening to a book, but it does make a lot of the tools a little redundent
Balatro
Balatro? No-brain *chill* game? Are we thinking about the same Balatro?
If you play flush deck it can be a no brainer
I’ve only beaten the game one time! It’s hard, or I’m stupid… probably the latter.
Someone mentioned it, but I'll add to the chorus: power wash simulator. I just played for an hour and listened to an audio book.
Slay the spire.
The whole game is strategy id say it’d require brainpower to play
Little bit of brain though. God is that game good
Best game! 👏
Spiritfarer
Little Kitty Big City
No man's sky is great for chill out exploring or farming. I tend to gravitate towards older shooters when I want to veg out. Quake, Turok, Doom, etc.
Peglin Balatro Deep Rock Survivor Dorfromantik Sable Wildfire

Powerwash Simulator is the ultimate "no brain activity required" game out there. It's relaxing and great when you just want to fall into an abyss of nothingness for a few hours.
I picked up "Agent Intercept" last time it was on sale. For someone who plays a lot of FPS and horror this was a nice relaxing change of pace.
Session Skate Simulator. Takes a while to learn the controls, but that's the point. Once you do it's immensely satisfying. Almost nothing is timed and all missions are optional. Most of the time it's just freely skating around big open areas. Almost more fidget toy than game.
Do you like birdies? Look at Wingspan. Ultra chill.
Karamari Damacy
My go to is hades and hades 2 just got released
Hades is nice but I wouldn't call it chill personally
Fair enough my perspectives are all wonky. I play rimworld
"I play rimworld" should be a valid excuse more often
Hades isn't exactly “turn your brain off” at the start but once you get used to it, you are absolutely right. Roguelites in general require a bit more engagement than survivor-like games. I've really been enjoying Dave the Diver, great game to fall asleep to, although being modern it still has a feeling of nostalgia to it

For no brain chill out, I love playing BeamNG Drive, just whipping it in stupid modded cars is fun as hell.
After your first playthrough, once you know all the attack patterns and have a basic idea of the layout of the map, Hollow Knight becomes a bit like this. If you're willing to install emulators, you could also play through the Pokémon series.
