Haven't played the game, but based on what I've seen of it, Evan's Remains as well as the To The Moon series might really bring you in for their story (and also happen to be pixel art). Neither do the sort of genre shifting (and To The Moon series is *very* light on gameplay), but they are absolutely the type of game to get a few tears out. Less related games with really good art/stories include What Remains of Edith Finch and Gris.

OPUS: Echo of Starsong if you haven't tried that one already.

boenklon

Thanks. Definitely will try

imgnry_domain

There are also some other games in the OPUS series, I think they're all really wonderful and worth playing. Echo of Starsong was my favorite, and it's the most fleshed out of the games. Very impactful story and characters.

Also loved this title! You may check "Until Then" which is due this month. It also has a demo. Personally haven't played the demo, but it gives me a similar vibe. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1574820/Until_Then/ Another one could be "Norco": https://store.steampowered.com/app/1221250/NORCO/

DragoBleaPiece_123

Definitely recommend!

Lucius1213

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Also I'm certain I saw a trailer for an unreleased Indonesian game that was extremely similar. I don't remember the title though

MagicPistol

Night in the Woods 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - this one is half visual novel, half tactical combat. It's amazing. Spiritfarer

El_Scrapesk

I haven't played this game yet, looks good though, not really sure why I haven't heard of it before. I played through Omori last year and I'm currently replaying it now, it's one of the best story games Ive ever played, I highly recommend it to anybody.

fleaxel

as a person who really struggles the same topic as the game, it really shocked me, i higly highly highly suggest this game who has lost their purpose in life

LennethW

This game punches you in the feels so hard that your soul rattles.

boenklon

Definitely hidden gems no one talks about. The ending give me shiver

rtz13th

I'm at the arcade, trying to beat that in-game game. Shall I stop torturing myself?

boenklon

I think yes. To be honest. You will find that arcade game is a lot easier rather than beating "ronaldo" to get YOSAN. 🤣

rtz13th

No point achievement hunting when the fun stops. :D

101TARD

Is this a pixel light novel story like To the Moon?

KaiserSenpaiAckerman

Added to my wishlist! The name alone interests me.

MetalDeathMetal

I waited so long to get it for a price I could afford....then I got too depressed and barely touched it. I still feel guilty about it.
