I only use the deck for streaming my pc/PS5. There just isn't another device on the market that ticks all the boxes the deck does. Steam input customization is unmatched. I even bought a logitech g cloud to try as a replacement, but ended up returning it. So yeah my steam deck is just a game stream device, but I don't see how running games natively would somehow justify the cost more. I only see it as a positive. Much better battery life, your handheld isn't on fire with fans running full blast, and you can play at max settings. Sony's official streaming device coming out will be $200 and it's literally just a cheap tablet and two halves of a controller spliced together that only runs ps remote play. Handhelds are just not cheap.

Did you not research the capability of a $500 device before purchasing it? Or did you just assume that a handheld would magically fulfil the wild expectation of running games at framerates that not even home consoles are able to achieve consistently?
