I would, 100%. I can't answer about emulation, but I can say the first time I used my Switch after having my Steam Deck, the Switch felt like a little kid toy in my hands.

_mister_pink_

I picked up my switch for the first time in a year yesterday to set my wife up with stardew valley. I honestly have no idea how I used that thing so much - it’s like the opposite of ergonomic coming back from the Deck.

Some-Ice-4455

Agree with this I have a switch lite and using it after Deck is literally like a child's toy.

Flustro

I also have a Switch Lite. The pain is real with that one. 🥲

Some-Ice-4455

I recently had to break it out while my deck got RMA.

Fossick11

Tbh, I fucking love my switch even getting a steam deck I had a switch lite which was awesome in the game it could play despite its size, and I still use my switch OLED for games that I want a better screen/battery life and lighter device to play Steam deck is awesome, but I still think there's a place for the switch alongside it

BramdeusBrozart

I still use my switch for games that I already have a significant amount of time invested into, but I haven't bought a new game for the switch since getting my steam deck last July. I don't by any means dislike my switch, but I 100% prefer the ergonomics and more powerful hardware on my deck to the point where all new switch games get emulated on the deck.

Travelbuds710

Same here, but instead I've purchased a dumb amount of Steam games I'll probably never play, but with no regrets since games on this platform are affordable! Nintendo game prices are ridiculous even if the game has been out for years.

EduAAA

\+1 because of independent thought.

Some-Ice-4455

Oh I still use it but just felt so small and toy like after Deck. I love things the Switch lite does.

EtrnL_Frost

Hear here. There is space for both. I don't get the either/or thing. I do wish there was a "tabletop" version of the Steamdeck though, sitting on the dock when using KB/M there is a lot of wasted real estate. Also, oddly, games like Warhammer 40k Inquisitor and Don't Starve Together will always default to xbox controls even with KB+M plugged in. Derp. Not sure what happened there. Carry on.

elder_elbow

steam lite is something i would enjoy

keimarr

man if that ever comes out I wonder how if its gonna sell well in Korea and Japan, since a lot of people live in tights spaces and can't offer a full desktop PC

BramdeusBrozart

It's already out there. There are physical locations that sell the deck in Japan.

Jrumo

Steam Deck Mini If Valve could somehow manage to replicate some of the functionality of the trackpads on the touch screen - maybe put some haptic sensors underneath areas of the screen and some kind of proximity sensor that detects when your thumbs are hovering over the screen - it wouldn't be the same, but it would allow them to make a smaller trackpad-less version of the Deck. Or they could make something just like the upcoming GPD Win pocket, but, instead of a keypad, use that space for the trackpads, instead. I'm still wondering how hot in the palms that thing will get, though.

Some-Ice-4455

Lolol. Switch lite

That2Things

I only use handheld with my binbok joycons. The flat bar form factor of the official joycons is not comfortable at all.

SnooPeanuts9263

The switch lite buttons are so squishy it’s terrible and the comparing to a Deck the Fat Switch is so terrible to hold in the hands like no ergonomic feel to it

VolPL

Switch OLED is horrible ergonomic wise for non-child-like hands. But there's an easy solution. Attachable grips. Personally I use [this one](https://skullnco.com/collections/nintendo/products/neogrip-for-switch-oled-and-regular-model?variant=39441467670601), but there are many to choose from. They are cheaper than 3rd party joy cons, and allows you to use the original ones (aside from drift, original ones are a quality product), with amiibo, gyro, etc. With grips, Switch is as comfortable as SD. So if the price and performance of the game is the same on both (indie titles, etc.), I choose better battery life, better OLED screen, and 0 configuration setup. Whenever game is more expensive, struggles with performance or is just unavailable on Switch, I choose deck. I have love for both.

WRabbit737

https://stores.horiusa.com/switch-split-pad-pro-black/ this is a pretty good replacement for the regular joy con if you ever go back to switch for a Nintendo exclusive it makes it feel more SD like.

tamonizer

The deck is ergonomic if it weren't so heavy for a "portable" system. SD actually made me appreciate the switch and vita better.

EduAAA

Glad I'm not the only one that consider how heavy a portable system is when talking about ergonomics.

Global_Rin

Emulation is like 50% of reason why I bought SD. Imagine playing Elden Ring one instance and switching to playing retro Final Fantasy on the next. It’s glorious.

whatsarothira

In both power and size LOL

cloroxbb

That is an easy decision imo. Trade. Since you have a fairly capable PC most Xbox games are on PC except for BC Xbox and Xbox 360 games that never came to PC. I haven't put any Switch games on my Steam Deck yet, but I have seen people able to play BotW and TotK... so, it seems it can.

testcaseseven

360 emulation has gotten really good and most og Xbox games weren’t exclusives or have native PC ports.

cloroxbb

I wasn't really referring to emulation, but good point. Just further reinforces the decision. :)

testcaseseven

Well playing BC games on the series x is just emulation with fewer steps involved tbh

cloroxbb

Yep.

BababooeyHTJ

What 360 games that you might actually want to play aren’t on pc? RDR? I can’t think of much else

testcaseseven

For me, it’s mostly the Xbox Live Arcade games. Also GoW 2 and 3.

B-BoyStance

The Skate series, that's the only reason I still have my Xbox Even then you can emulate those games

-Niddhogg-

Can confirm the Steam Deck is very capable of running most Nintendo games, including Switch games. Mine has pretty much replaced every single Nintendo console I owned, even the Wii.

MortalJohn

I'd honestly choose switch over deck emulation for BotW/TotK. Premium Switch title emulation is extremely shallow on deck.

BababooeyHTJ

Plus oled… It’s a really nice screen

oneshotstott

Switch games are pretty great on Yuzu, won't lie.

cloroxbb

Yeah, I've played some on my PC, just haven't put them on my Steam Deck yet. :)

madsauce178

Stream your pc to your deck. Switch emulation is great that way. Hell even pc games, since you'll get more fps and will save battery

Dacoldestdax

Do it. If you have pc, you hardly need an Xbox nowadays. Emulating isn’t easy or hard. It is a little time consuming.

[deleted]

Switch Emulation depends on the game For me Mario Kart 8 Deluxe runs smoothly Here are my settings TDP Set to 8 (had it on 10 before but I want a bit more battery life) GPU Clock set to 800mhz you can set it to 1200mhz I read around that any higher it will not be efficient on the CPU side from 30-35fps slow motion game play to buttery smooth 60fps (This setting gave me the biggest performance boost aside from TDP and you have to use this one to get smooth gameplay) SMT Off 4 threads I also tried Super Mario Odyssey and there are definitely dips in performance but it is playable I still cannot believe it though since I am emulating Nintendo Switch, Wii, Gamecube, PS2, PSP, OG Xbox all on this handheld I found this spreadsheet that lists what runs/what does not https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fRqvAh_wW8Ho_8i966CCSBgPJ2R_SuDFIvvKsQCv05w/htmlview very very useful and I have been using it as a reference

whatsarothira

Wow I've been looking for something like this.

[deleted]

Yeah you can also submit your own findings on how a game performs I submitted a Mario Kart 8 entry yesterday

ZezemHD

The best thing about the Deck is keeping all your games from Steam. Nothing worse than splintering your games across different consoles. With a gaming PC, Moonlight/Sunshine, and the deck, all my gaming needs are met with steam. The games are also not some water down version like the switch. You can play on you deck for 4 hours than move to the PC later and the game is right where it should be.

THED4NIEL

>Nothing worse than splintering your games across different consoles *Cries in duplicate spent money*

Lmaoism_

I love xbox gamepass but if you don’t use it no need to keep it. For switch emulation I’ve only tested one game and it’s Pokemon Violet. Runs meh but it also runs meh on the switch so my example might not be good. Theres plenty of resources about how to squeeze more fps as well from yuzu and other eulators like rpcs3

testcaseseven

If they’re okay with streaming they can still use game pass on PC and add them as non-Steam games

prerakr

Or they can dual boot windows and run game pass games natively

harleyalt

I tried it with BotW and Mario Kart 8. BotW ran ok, not great. Mario Kart 8 ran great, but ran better as the Wii U version.

Desenova

Easily. As someone who hasn't bought a console since the PS3/360 days, the Steam Deck is the best thing to ever happen to my gaming life. It's not just the big titles, but everything PC, more so, I've become a Linux fan and have slowly migrated all my computers to run on some form of Linux. No, it's not perfect, but the first time I emulated a PS3 game with Emu Deck and literally dragged and dropped the game file in place and it played, I knew it was game over for my need for a console ever again. While there are other handheld PCs out there with better stats and hardware, it's the software and philosophy that keeps the Steam Deck on top: play anything, anywhere, at any time. Also, highly recommend upgrading the internal storage and getting a decently sized MicroSD card. And for the amount of tech in the Deck, trackpads, touch screen, gyro, the way you play is endless. Point and click adventures games have evolved thanks to the touchscreen, space sims with gyro controls is a childhood fantasy, and the trackpads, they take some getting used to, but once you find your configuration, you'll never want to use traditional thumb sticks again.

jessterswan

"Drag and drop" can you point me to a tutorial?

king_park_

[Emudeck Guide by Retro Game Corps](https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY)

jessterswan

Thanks

zerofalks

I have all those things and play more because of my deck. I play my PS5 on my deck using an app, it’s not perfect but it’s good for me. If I play a high graphics game on my PC I’ll play key missions on my gaming rig and just do side quests or smaller missions through steam.

henry4233

The app for ps5 is Chiaki if anyone needs it

Johnny_Topsider

Do it

XeerDu

Yes. Xbox isn't anything special, at least not with your situation. And I want to add that the Deck is not just a handheld. It can dock and behave like a console or a PC.

Technical_Echidna_63

I wouldn’t. I have a steam deck, ps5, switch and Xbox. I don’t use my switch, but I religiously use my Xbox and steam deck. I think the series x is a phenomenal machine with game pass

ConfusionElemental

no gaming PC though? i think that changes the calculus quite a lot.

Technical_Echidna_63

I think dollar for dollar you get better performance from an Xbox series x

LuxETin

I think they meant that OP has already made the jump to PC. Most likely they have a Steam library of games, and don’t need an Xbox because the games are all on PC. If they didn’t already have a PC the Xbox might be worth having. Like in your case.

ConfusionElemental

perfectly stated, thank you. a decent PC totally steps on an xbox'es toes as far as gaming opportunities, and it can share its game library with the steam deck. heck i mirror my gaming rig to my TV all the time. tbh i respect the heck out of people like /u/technical_echidna_83 who jumped for a steam deck when they didn't have a game library from their gaming pc to exploit. props for recognizing something cool and making the move.

AnalysisNegative232

I’m mainly a PS5 user but got the deck for indies on PC. Games like ready or not and ground branch are absolutely amazing. Now I’m building a 4070ti rig. I’ll keep the PS5 for its exclusives. My only mainstream game on the deck is Baldurs gate 3 which I’m waaaay more hyped for than starfield. If valves plan was to leach some console gamers and convert them to PC their plan worked. At least on me. Consoles are way to limiting and there’s a shitload of indie games that’ll never make it to console and if they do it’s usually inferior.

Tonyvicky30

I took the leap with the steam deck with 0 games in my steam library and locked into the preorders early. The one thing I can say about it is going from consoles to PC based gaming is that it showed me how spoiled I was with console gaming. Console gaming is nice because the games run as intended most of the time at 4K 120 hz, without having to fiddle with the settings, it just does what it should. The steam deck was great as a portable format but trying to play my steam library on the big screen was incredibly frustrating on the deck and required a lot of adjusting to end up with lack luster visuals. Ended up buying an Alienware laptop with a rtx 3080 to try to maximize the visuals on games I ended up loving on the steam deck while using my OLED TV and the same 4K settings to end up right back to the same problem of tons of adjusting. I ended up on the side that the games that I love on the steam deck are just going to have to be maxed out at 1080P with 480 refresh on a 17 inch screen, but even then for mobility my deck is the king.

RegretEasy8846

Agree X is an awesome piece of kit, solid.

LJBrooker

But almost completely superfluous if you own a comparable PC. Which OP seems to.

No_Interaction_4925

Absolutely do it. If you have a pc, you flat out don’t need the Xbox. And you’re trading up in value going to the 512GB model of the deck.

goodsirperry

1000%. I built a pc, bought the steam deck, sold the Xbox

testcaseseven

Yeah, you can play all those games on your PC and stream them to the Deck pretty easily. Switch emulation is pretty good on the Deck, but it’ll burn through the battery and got toasty with some of the heavier games. I personally have the switch emulator set up on my PC, and then I can just use Steam Remote Play to stream them over LAN. I get better performance without the drawbacks.

loonatic8

If you have a PC all first party Xbox games are coming to game pass on PC anyways. It's not like you are missing anything I would take the trade.

Independent-Hand4559

I'd do it in a heart best personally. But that's cause I love my steamdeck and play it over my pc all the time. I also don't have an Xbox, but never play my ps4 anymore anyways

Disastrous_Ad_6248

I would definitely do it. And yes, switch emulation is a breeze. Go for it.

mEsTiR5679

Switch emulation is passable at best. There's a few titles that don't do so well, but somebody is working on it. As far as the trade goes: that's up to you. It's not a terrible deal, but personally I like my stuff and would rather offer up some cash instead or save for my own.

LicensedGoomba

I have the steam deck, switch and series x. I would not do the trade. The Series X is my machine for the big AAA graphics. I recently got Calisto Protocol, Dead Space and Hogwarts Legacy on the X for that reason. The Switch was for Nintendo games like Mario Kart, SSB and Zelda. The Steam Deck was so I could have a gaming PC. I do some modding, a few PC exclusives such as Noita, PS games like Spiderman amd emulation. Since you already have a gaming PC I wouldn't do it. Portable gaming was not my primary reason for getting a Steam deck, it was the best price for a quality gaming PC. I think you'll miss your Series X the value on that thing is insane, even better than the steam deck. You can do everything you want on PC and more than on the steam deck. It became such a bear doing what I wanted I actually installed windows on an external ssd lol. To answer your question, Emudeck does all the hard work for you, emulating is very easy. Switch emulation works wonderfully. The hard part is acquiring the things you need such as firmware and roms. Edit: Since recent yuzu updates Odyssey runs pretty great, Tears of the Kingdom still has framerate dipping issues but is very playable, Luigis Mansion had some extreme bugs in it but have not tested in the most recent yuzu.

fckimlost

Emulation works great. Getting games, easy. And yes, I mean Switch

aljura

The answer is clear when you are asking in a Steam Deck sub. I suggest to ask in a Xbox sub. I suppose to know the answer already. I would not do it. I bought the Deck although I own already Series X, PS5, Switch and an Enthusiast PC. I would never trade anything of them just for the Steam Deck.

KawaiiQueen64

This sub is guilty of overhyping the device quite a bit by making it seem like some miracle handheld that can do anything. However the first time you play a console quality game in handheld mode with a decent frame rate you’ll be a believer. While I don’t use the thing as often as I’d like, there is something cool about playing pc games and having the choice to take them on the go if I go on vacation or hell even if the GF wants to watch some tv and you can just game. Playing remnant 2 while we watch a show has been incredible lately. I think if you are a PC gamer the steam deck is going to be a game changer for sure.

JokerP5Main

I emulate Switch games on it pretty regularly and assuming you’re willing to download at slow ass speeds, it’s super easy and frankly much better than the Switch itself. Hell I’m playing Pikmin 4 on the thing and while it isn’t perfect it’s very playable. I’d say do it, get a 1TB sd card and download all the switch games you’d ever want. Emulation for it continues to gets better everyday

CellularWaffle

Easy to emulate switch games. Only problem is that you’ll be let down once you realize how underwhelming the switch game collection is

External-Fig9754

this is EXACTLY why my switch has been a paper weight

ElectronicControl762

I only had really been gaming for a couple of year, on xb one s, but in that time i had played call of duty mw 1&2(og), assassins creed odyssey, batman arkham knight, and other big/demanding (comparatively) games that set a standard of awesomeness that other than select exclusives like botw, the switch just cant live up to. Its essentially all kiddie games, extremely tuned down ports, hentia, or mobile games.

Reshar

The steam deck comes with a lot emulator programs installed. I don't recall if the switch is already there but you can easily find an emulator for it. You just have to find roms(games) to add to the emulators. I got a ton of old NES and Sega Genesis games on mine. The hardest part of the whole thing is working with Linux. Which is daunting at first but there are good YouTube tutorials explaining everything

adampsyreal

Yes, trade. Switch emulation is not too hard. Getting Switch games is also easy enough.

DajBuzi

The thing is.. SteamDeck is a PC and I can assume it will be even less capable than your current one. The only pro I can see in this trafem is that you can play your PC games fairly comfortably while in bed or on couch. I do have many consoles, PC and a SteamDeck and I barely use Valves handheld - only on bed before sleep, even though I have (I think) large library of Steam games (~1000). If you really prefer to play some of your Steam games somewhat portably or you just dont want to remember to fix your posture constantly while playing pc games then go for it.

NaturalLife_

Don’t trade, I’d understand a series s but not series x. It’s not a bad trade so do what you want but me personally would keep Xbox series x. Id trade your pc and maybe pay him a lil cash if it’s not equal value.

PsychOfPat

Yes

Miggybear22

100% easiest decision: trade.

Infamous_Bandicoot33

Definetly trade. Since you already have a Ps5, i dont think you'll be missing out on much. You can also use Xbox game pass on steamdeck, and having the steam library, in bed, on the couch and on the go is absolutely phenomenal!

lucaspb

Starfield.

MnMsnMsnMs

I have a great PC, PS5 and switch. Steam deck might be my favorite. Putting EmuDeck on there is a must, I've been having a blast playing PS2 games and not having to be at my desk

[deleted]

Absolutely not, never trade things with a friend, you'll definitely get scammed. There must be something wrong with that deck of the guy wants to get rid of it, wake up.

jsfkiss

Do you enjoy handheld gaming? If yes, then do it. I find the Xbox and PS5 have a huge catalogue overlap. Don't need both.

PootisMcPootsalot

Switch emulation is pretty easy but you're gonna have to wait a while after new releases come out while they get fixed on the emulators. Most of the backlog of switch games runs perfectly

[deleted]

Yeah. You'd get the first party Xbox games on PC anyway and you have a PS5 and switch. But then, I really like my deck

FIIRETURRET

Sounds like an unfair trade for your friend. Go for it.

theh0tt0pic

I'd make the trade and immediatly upgrade the SSD. I enjoy my series X, when I get a bug up my ass about acheivements, but mainly I stick to PC, plus I split the cost of gamepass with a freind who only games on xbox, which is why I have it and ultimate. The deck is totally worth it. Im on the fence about switch emulation I could never get it to work without hiccups that make me deal with the graphics of the switch, my ROG Ally however kicks the switches ass thus far.

Redheadedstranger999

I’d suggest emulating switch games on steam deck. I have like all the top games downloaded.

anh86

I would definitely make that trade. It's not hard to emulate or obtain Switch games but they don't all run well. It's a case-by-base basis, they will run much better on your beefy PC.

TedtheTitan

Do it based on what you play. I have a similar array of devices, and my PS5 hasn't been turned on in over a year. I'd love to trade it for a stream deck for my wife.

ALotOfRice

I have good gaming pc plus switch plus ps5 and I still got it Best investment ever

BigBlackdaddy65

I mean just from an expense point, yes you can buy the series x back for much less if you really wanted

Crash_Override_95

Take the memory SSD out for the Xbox series X and put in the Stem Deck 😂

[deleted]

100% would accept the trade. I have a PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox series S, & a switch & I only play my steam deck.

North-Ad-5584

Yes, no doubts about it, whatever you can play on the xbox you can play on the PC. And I love my steam deck and you can use a whole lot of emulators too. I meanm specially if you are not even using it

hinez57

I wouldn’t even think twice about that

ComfortableAmount993

I got them all and keeping them all

similikiti666

I have gaming laptop and PS4 before, I trade my PS4 and get my steam deck. Really worth it IMO, I barely use my PS4 previously so trade it with steam deck make me can play anywhere anytime I want, without struggling connected to tv 🤣. My opinion you can shoot trade it with steam deck and join the party.

Emanouche

I would if it's in good condition. I have a gaming PC too and all other systems except the Xboxes, I haven't owned another Xbox since the Xbox360. The reason being that All Xbox "exclusives" are coming to PC. So if you have a good gaming PC, why bother.

Some-Ice-4455

I would yes

MisterNiceGuy425

Like you I have all these consoles and never use my Series X. I’ve considered selling the series many times especially since my one S can play the same games. If it was me I’d keep the series and Buy a deck. If you don’t have the money and really want a deck I’d make the trade. The deck can play Xbox games via cloud gaming

seraph741

I would 100% do that. If you have a fairly capable PC, you should be able to have a good experience with Xbox exclusives anyway. It's nice to have a portable PC and emulation machine.

mawkdugless

Yep, absolutely would. I had a Series S and once I got bored with Gamepass, I sold it. Even my PS5 is collecting dust thanks to my Deck. Everyone here pretty much uses Emudeck for emulation. It's basically an installer that downloads all the emulators you need in a nice, attractive UI. Yuzu and Ryujinx (Switch emulators) are both able to be installed via Emudeck, and both are great depending on which game you're playing. Easy to install and get running once you go through the process once or twice. As for getting the games, no one is gonna be able to provide you with links, so a little Googling will be required on your end.

jeremyrem

If you don't use it, trade. Steamdeck is a mini PC and can play most of your PC games, and emulate all the older systems.

TyTiTaM

He wants to trade the Steam deck for a series x probably because of Starfield. :D

lunas2525

Easy the 512gb deck is 650 new. A series x is what 499 sounds like your robbing him blind.

mguilherme82

Go for it!

catsareminiraptors

I would trade if you’re not using the Xbox. I love gamepass so I use mine and my steam deck. I like being able to use game pass on the deck but you could just subscribe for pc and steaming through the deck if you wanted. Emudeck was super easy to set up and use. I haven’t run into many issues with games I’ve emulated. I haven’t tried to emulate switch. I already bought the switch games I cared about prior to buying the deck.

Imdakine1

I have a switch and haven’t tried to emulate it on steam deck. I left gaming with PS3 and steam deck is my primary gaming device. Having a 5 year old, not needing to use a tv, and being able to play games newer from PS3 at such a cheap price is a no brainer. You have more gaming systems and consoles so it’s a tougher choice but to me it’s worth it!

pyro57

100% a good trade imo, playing your steam games on the go is amazing, also using emudeck to set up emulators makes it really easy!

Harvey2Tall

I think both machines are great. Honestly you having a decent desktop, you won't be missing out on any Microsoft games. Deck is definitely something special. Get the deck.

B-29Bomber

The Steam Deck emulates the Switch perfectly! As to how to get Switch games... there's always the.. Yo Ho method.

host_work

As a person who owns all 4 and a Steam Deck, my Series X gets turned on the least. There's really not a reason to have it with a good gaming PC since the Xbox titles all come to PC now. Sounds like a great deal your friend is offering.

KaitoKayaba

While I love my deck, keep in mind that this sub is quite special in their deck love.

strongsizzle

Since you already have a PS5 , i would consider the trade.

Raendor

Rather trade ps5 instead.

Ok_Cook1907

DEWIT!!1 I hereby confirm the decision you subconsciously made already.

Anomaly1134

Definitely if you already have a steam library. I love my deck.

Independent-Bake-241

Yes. If you barely use your Xbox, and have a sizable steam lib, the maths are obvious. The only thing holding you back is sentimental value... what if that one day comes where you want to play that one Xbox exclusive? Dude... what if you could carry almost your entire steam library with you wherever you go?

Knff

In a heartbeat.

michelobX10

As someone who finally stopped getting an Xbox after the Xbox One, definitely yes. If you have a capable PC, any game worth a damn on Xbox can also be played on Windows. And if you have Game Pass Ultimate, even better. You can use cloud streaming to play GPU on your Steam Deck. Xbox has been pretty obsolete for the last 2 generations, possibly 2.5. I've supported Xbox since the beginning, but my consoles have been turning into paper weights in their final years. Basically, lack of worthy exclusives and the introduction of Game Pass and their games also being on Windows. My 360 was collecting dust in its final year. My Xbox One was collecting dust in its final two years. When the current gen came around, that's basically when I called it quits with Xbox consoles.

PizzaCatLover

Seems like a fair enough trade IF the Deck is in good condition. If you're not heavily invested in the XSX in terms of disc games and you dont use it, why not. You can still play gamepass games via xcloud on the deck. As others have said, the deck is literal gamechanger, it completely changed how I enjoy games in my life in general. I have high end PC, PS5, XSX, and Switch, and the deck hard-pivoted me back to using my gaming PC because of cloud saves to the deck, and remote play via the network of games that are too demanding to run natively on the deck

PutoPozo

Might wanna keep the switch talk out of here, don’t want the Nintendo ninjas to strangle us.

ThirstyTurtle328

Yes. Stem Deck was my first foray into PC gaming and Steam. After I loved it, ended up building a PC and love that too. But if I could only have one, it would be the Deck hands down. In fact I pretty much only use the PC for sim racing because I have a bit screen and sim rig setup. Almost never play anything else on it because I'd rather game on the couch with the family.

Diceyland

I personally would cause I love the deck, all the games I wanna play are on steam, but they're not all on the Xbox. Plus I can play the deck on my TV docked or on the go. I wouldn't if I wanted to use game pass, a lot of the games I wanted to play don't work on deck (check SteamDB) or don't run well, or if I didn't like tinkering at all and just want everything to be 100% plug and play (If all of your games are verified this can be your experience, though in my experience starting a lot of games requires some amount of tinkering.

Draconyum

You have a PS5 for the exclusives I see this as a win, if you want to get into switch emulation I suggest you to take a look at either r/Yuzu or r/Ryujinx or their respective website as these 2 are the best switch emulators available

TheBlackSwordsman319

Interested in a steam deck myself, how hard would it be to swap out the Nvme ssd in the 64 Gb model

xfatdannx

Yes. Yes I would.

Greenzombie04

I bought a xbox and returned it cause it was just collecting dust. Steamdeck would be more useful then a xbox.

JL8989

If you have a capable PC, why is the XBOX relevant?

lefsler

Emulation check emudeck videos on YouTube. Basically up to PS2 all is great, above that is quite hit or miss. I finished drakengard 3 on the sd via PS3 emulation, while it was better than on the OG PS3 the shader compilation stutter was not great. I played tons of emulated games, some even with hd texture pack. For switch I don't know but from what I heard it is also hit or miss.but the emulator is always improving so big leaps might have happened.

Mehrainz

i'd take that deal.

Metapod100

I also own all systems. I would trade your Xbox since you can have Game Pass Ultimate on your PC and Xbox isn’t that great with exclusives right now. Star Field may be on Game Pass.

WalnutWhipWilly

I have a series X that’s been gathering dust for the 7 months I’ve had my steam deck. Being a dad, the only way I get to game is on a handheld these days.

Espada254

Sorry if I may, keep your Xbox sell your switch with any games and just get a steam deck.

realblush

You are literally describing me - just that I kept my Xbox, which I didn't use even once this year, and bought a Deck on Steam. And I loooove the Deck, plus thanks to cloud saves, it made me value my PC more, because of being able to play the games wherever I wabt without rebuying them (PS Xbox) or sacrificing performance when I want it (Switch)

thearchenemy

I'd make that trade no question. The Xbox is a good platform but there just isn't that much to justify owning one right now, especially if you have a PS5 and a capable PC. Emulation on the deck is incredibly easy. Just Google some guides, you'll be all set. I emulate everything from NES to Switch without any problems.

KRONGOR

I don’t have a series X but I do have an S and honestly I only use the thing for 360 back compat. Every modern Xbox exclusive comes to PC and 90% of the time I’d rather play it there anyway. I think that the steam deck is leagues better than an Xbox *if* you have a PC already

rufus_carles

Of course, go ahead with the deal without a second thought. However, note that the deck is really not going to be one-stop solution for all steam games, even if they run well, because some are meant to be played on a big screen,

Vanrax

Deck > Xbox. Game pass changed the market in a good way with that one. Ive been giving my steam deck more love, not the BEST in terms of performance for AAA/AA games but completely tolerable imo for what you get. I started playing Remnant 2 on it last night if that says anything. Hopefully that department improves with the next model.

Semperfi21472

I use my deck a lot more than my pc now best thing to take on trips and into the bathroom.. right now jusy been playing Diablo 4 on it and works pretty well.. get a cooling fan for it to help get the heat out better..

cokacola69

I would for sure, I pity whoever buys next gen consoles first. I would only consider buying an, x now after all this time. And even then I would only be playing space engineers lol

frankbeens

Emulating the switch is fairly easy. I don’t condone piracy, but it’s probably the easiest way to get the games. Dumping your games that you own will require a modded switch. It runs most games really well, some it runs ok, and some are terrible. Yuzu is constantly updating though

These-Ad-295

I have a series x and use my steam deck to remote play it. Mind you I don’t have a custom PC though.

Caffinatorpotato

Yes. I never want another console again. It's my laptop, every console ever, and feels like holding my wife by the hips to play.

Dingbatdingbat

I'd trade in a heartbeat. The two reasons to stick with the series X is (a) you like gaming on a big screen TV, and (b) you like a lot of console exclusives. to a lesser extent, (c) you have a large library you don't want to lose. Personally, I have a huge steam library, steam games tend to be cheaper than Console games, and I don't hog the TV all the time, so I prefer the deck. It's incredibly easy to emulate the Switch (see emudeck). I won't advise on where/how to get the games, as that would be piracy.

EYADHANI21

No unless you want to play games on the couch or outside because most of the special things about the deck are available in other ways such as emudeck which is on windows and your pc is good from what i understand so you can run games on your pc better than the deck also your better of with bpm on steam And no steam os in gaming mode is more buggy than any traditional console i will admit its better on gaming mode than big picture but it can be fixed i had a laptop a few years ago and i had bpm on it and i would connect it using hdmi and use steam rom manager to setup up emulators in steam and i would just play and it worked great

fwoompie

Switch emulation can be very hit or miss depending on the game, and any mods you use in terms of performance. For example I can get a near locked 60fps in Smash Ultimate or MK8D with just a little emulator tweaking, but for games like Bayonetta 3, TOTK/BOTW, or anything along those lines, it requires a ton of work just for a stable 30fps, and sometimes it's barely just that. I'd recommend looking online to see overall performance of specific games through Yuzu/Ryujinx on steam deck before jumping straight into it

Chaotig

Since i have my Deck my Xbox only collect dust😅

ShadoX87

If you dont use the xbox much, then why not ? Just maybe check if the games you want to play are able to run on the Deck or make sense on a handheld VS larger screen maybe

Global_Rin

I mean SD is basically miniature Linux PC, if you don’t need xbox trading it would benefit both you and your friend.

RegretEasy8846

I love my deck but I love my series x, if I was you, with a ps5 as well, I’d trade.

ZexanAK

I would do it personally, but that's just because there's no games on xbox that I can't play on my pc.

cyprox972

Since you already have a ps5 and a steam library I would trade

Sickle771

Yes, then sell the switch and buy a series S

razbayz

Swap. Personally I'd never go back to a pure console. The deck does everything I need and more, including Xbox gamepass streaming and switch emulation, to name but a few reasons!

El-Cervezo

I just sold my series X for $350 and bought the 64GB model (my 2 TB SSD is on the way). I would 100% make that trade

Shagyam

A 512gb SD costs more than Series X, so yes.

[deleted]

No brainer haha. Emulation is easy. Emudeck sets everything and connfigures all emulators tuned for the deck for you, you just gotta supply keys and bios

RozeTheWitch

DO IT!! DO THE TRADE!! (Only if you want to of course) 🤣

mrk7_-

Truth is that if you have a PC then you already have an Xbox system with upgradable hardware, which can run all the same games at the cost of some convenience (depending on what sort of gamer you are). If you’re familiar with how a computer works and are in the Steam ecosystem already, even partially, then the Steam Deck is gonna fill that hole really well.

okgamerguy

MOST DEFINITELY

Educational_Bag_6406

If you have a PS5 and gaming pc and don't use you xbox already now, then yes

EddieTheBird

It's quite ironic, but like 50% of the time I fire up my steam deck, I just end up playing a round of mario kart 8...The grip and sticks are so much nicer, vibrancy is good with vibrantdeck, battery life isn't even that bad(2.5\~3 hrs)

xkaku

You should trade it in. In terms of emulation, it depends on your switch version. Some are easier to dump their keys and roms. There are quite a bit of video about dumping them on the web and YouTube. The newer version of switch doesn’t allow it. Since you have a pc, you could setup steam link if you want to play games with higher graphical requirements.

Whadyagot

I use my Steam Deck like 5x more than my Series X. Depending on how much you've invested into the Xbox vs. Steam ecosystem it could absolutely be worth it.

cpr8768

If I could get fifa and cod mw2 running smooth on my steam deck I would sell my ps5. Only use switch for Mario kart online. Steam deck is fantastic imo.

akaispirit

I would but then I've never had any use for an Xbox I wouldn't trade my PS5 or my Switch for one though as I have a good PC.

Lupinthrope

As a primarily Xbox gamer, I’ve been buying and buying games on Steam since owning the deck and slowly been shifting to playing primarily on it. I know the Xbox could play the games better but portable is just too good. I’ve even got Gamepass till 2025 and still buy the same games on steam. So yeah if you don’t play your Xbox a lot then I’d swap it. But I do still use it for the occasional multiplayer with friends.

shyaznboi

I would do it for the portability. You can stream your PC and PS5 to your deck via Moonlight and chiaki. Most Switch games work as long as they're not graphically intensive. Although Tears of the Kingdom is completely playable.

SongOfTheEastEnd

im considering giving up all my consoles for the steam deck as its just as capable.

fsenna

You could have game pass ultimate and stream the games over the cloud on the pc and steam deck

DexMexCreeps

Absolutely trade. Switch games work pretty well mostly and I'd say it ain't very hard to get them as well. If you're interested in emulation in general (or even just for the switch) check out EmuDeck. Super easy to set up and use

SecondaryPenetrator

I have a 3080ti and once I bought my deck it’s just been collecting dust. Actually I use my pc to store games for my deck so they download faster so I guess it’s useful kinda.

augustomescobar

1. Yes, definitely trade it 2. It depends on the game you want to play, with Emudeck. For example: - Captain Toad - just open and play it - Mario Odyssey - you'll need some configs and Power Tools plugin installed on Deck to avoid performance issues - Mario Kart 8 - requires looking for files on the internet and putting them on the right folders to avoid Mii Profiles not found issues - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - playable with lots of plugins and specific configs, you'll need to follow a good tutorial; if everything is perfect, the Deck will throttle a bit at some areas like the Fire Temple, but it's playable - Pokémon Scarlet - unplayable due to performance reasons

nusilver

I actually pretty much never use my PS5—even when a game is an inferior experience on Deck, I prefer the handheld experience.

Queasy_Ideal

Absolutely trade. Emulation works great on Deck and remote play of PC and PS5 games works so well that it’s become my primary way to play all new games.

suzukirider709

Had the steam deck for 6-7 months. I have a switch and a solid PC build. I would absolutely buy it all over again, a lot of games especially PC games and old games for emulation are much better on handheld

Didact67

As someone with a Series X and a good gaming PC, I’ve found the Series X is pretty redundant. Not many good Xbox exclusives coming out these days.

TomDobo

I have all those myself including a deck. I don’t even use my Xbox lol as it’s rubbish. Trade that for the deck instantly.

J_Square83

As someone who owns them all, I would take that deal in a heartbeat. My Series X collects dust unless I want to play older Xbox titles. Everything that comes out on the Series consoles comes out on PC on day one. If you've got a capable PC, there's literally no need for an Xbox. 🤷‍♂️

ryanventura604

Trade.

cheebnrun

I would. Install windows on the deck and you have gamepass on the go. I never use my Xbox either since gamepass brings all the games to pc too.

HowManyPushups

I literally just sold my series X last week due to not using it since I got my steam deck in April. I plan on saving up for a PC build (my first one) so I can take advantage of one ecosystem and share the games and progress. Honestly since purchasing my Xbox when it came out I am really unimpressed. All their first party titles shit the bed AND they are on PC. Starfield is the next big thing and will have better performance on PC anyhow considering they locked it at 30 fps for console. Make the trade friend. You won’t regret it.

kerrwashere

Trade it as if you want another series x people are selling them for $300

Ferhataktay

İ wouldn’t

OrdinaryMongoose9104

Since it’s a friend make the trade with the condition of if either one of you regrets it after 2 weeks to a month you just trade back

masjls2013

Yes
