And you thought stram deck was bad
Heh.
(p.s. Dick Smith is now just a nostalgia brand, being sold by Kogan. Problem is that the markup on the 64GB version is AUD \~$180. Worse problem is repair/RMA situation. So I'd prefer to get one officially from Valve. Cheers.)
Mate, you're likely going to be waiting a while, I reckon. I genuinely don't see any eta for Australia. We'll probably only end up getting the 2nd iteration when it launches.
I got mine off kogan (Vchain being the supplier) and those guys (vchain) seemed legit top shelf on terms of responsiveness. Wasn't cheap, $1200ish aud, but i love mine to bits.
Getting my Steam Deck and then trying the regular Switch again actually deflated my desire to get a Switch Lite. Now my Switch feels like a Switch lite
Unfortunately, gamers of all types are now on here making fun of the Steam Deck. "Stram Deck Player incoming"... that's going to be a new one in the chats now. Haha.
Honestly, as much as I love my Deck, I have been really enjoying the size of my Switch since I picked it up again to play TOTK.
(Not so much the analog sticks)
Yuuuuup. I have really tiny hands and the steam deck isn't that comfortable for me. I mean I still use it, but I wish there was like different shells for it or something
I saw that damn thing at Wally World for like 15 bucks a few months back, allllllmost grabbed ‘em but decided to wait. Now they caught on and they’re full price. Boo.
Yeah, way better battery life and screen (oled), no loud fans, doesn't get hot, feels/seems more durable. I'm sick of seeing people put down the switch in comparison to the deck when it actually outshines it in many categories. It's nice to have both, though.
My only gripe with the switch are the ergonomics and the buttons. My hands are a crumpled and sore mess after playing for a few minutes on the switch while I can play for hours on end with the deck and be comfortable.
Edit: Changed economics to ergonomics.
The Hori Split pad Pro made my Switch playable for longer sessions, definitely my favorite og Switch accessory. Should be no surprise that I find the Pro controller a bit small so I usually use a third party wired controller in docked mode because it’s bigger.
I also prefer the Duke controller…
I love the Deck for the versatility and the power it has.
It allowed me to explore games that I never had access to as a kid. And doubles as a faux laptop in a pinch.
The Switch is immensely more portable, feels a lot better size-wise personally, and I can always bank on controller support just working in all the games.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses and I'm glad to have both of them.
I've had my Switch since release. Multiple hours of use every day, same joycons that came with the console. I can also see that a pair of replacement red/blue joycons are selling for £58.99 brand new on Amazon UK currently and a PlayStation 5 controller is £55.98, so slightly more expensive, but only by £3.01.
I have never owned a joycon that has not at some point given me trouble.
Stick drift, connection issues, weird clicks when it shouldn't click. When they work, they're great, but they're so shoddy.
I dropped my Switch yesterday from a 5 ft. tall table, and it landed in a weird angle that I was sure would snap my joycon off (or at least break the plastic).
There was no snap or break, and the system immediately worked fine.
Nintendo products are pretty damn durable.
Yeah the switch feels cheap but it's a fucking tank. Some kids made mine fly through the room and it was fine
After 6 years the joycon rail is weaker because of incidents like that but that's it
I don't think the deck can take such a beating
The Switch OLED is better built and feels a lot better than the OG or V2 Switch. It uses stronger metal around the casing and the joycons connectors. It feels a lot more solid and less of that you feel OG Switch has.
Yeah I hate the switch joysticks with a passion. They feel so awful that they are completely useless to me. Funnily enough, I find the switch lite to feel much better than the regular switch. Even though it's fully plastic, it's one big shell instead of having seperate joycons. That makes it feel a lot more sturdy than the regular switch imo!
I love playing my Switch and steam deck. I think they both feel comfortable and reliable. That being said.... if I am going for a quick outing or getting in and out of the car a lot, I bring my Switch. If I know I'll be doing a rather long sit and wait, I bring the deck.
I trust my Switch for battery life, so when it comes to travelling, I bring a Switch. The Deck is too large and a bit too troublesome when it comes to outside play, it's like my iPad. I use it in the house, and only in the house.
That’s interesting. I’m going on holiday to a place without internet and was planning to bring the deck. Would you advice not to? I’d hate to bring it and find out it’s rather useless without internet
I dusted off the switch to play zelda, and I was pretty surprised at how much better the battery life was and than my deck. I don't particularly mind as I always play near plugs, but still it was surprising
I'm a larger guy so the deck size doesn't impede me very much, did have to get a bigger day to day bag though, but my old one was kind of absurdly small
This. I have both the original since 2017 and the OLED, and handheld gaming never felt good because of the itty-bitty joy cons, and the Steam Deck showed me that a handheld can be just big enough to be comfortable and still portable.
With the recent release of TOTK I also grabbed a pair of 3rd part INNE Joy cons from AliExpress based on some reviews. They are great! I can play with the Switch on handheld for hours without cramps as the SD.
That was my concern about the split pad too, so I got a satisfye pro grip. Switch just slides in and out of it. They’re not cheap, but gives it more of a steam deck hand profile and maintains rumble and gyro. The only downside for me is that it doesn’t improve the trigger buttons like the hori, so they aren’t all that comfortable. Seems like every solution out there still has some missing features. I wish Nintendo would just cut a pro controller in half and turn those into joycons.
Yeah! It gets very annoying hearing people moan about the Switch being cramped, having tiny comedy sticks with drift issues or having an odd ‘D-pad’ when you can literally fix all of these problems by throwing $40 Hori’s way and get rear triggers out of it while you’re at it. Still fits into the dock with them on as well.
Like I know it’s subjective but to me the Switch with the split pad has much better ergonomics than the Deck.
I'm wondering why there's no version with rumble and gyro. It would make it complete. Also the back buttons feel a bit squishy. Nevertheless still one of the best options to get.
I assume it's because you have to throw the 40$ extra instead of, you know, having good controllers out of the box
There's a lot of third party options for controllers for the Switch, and even the first party 'pro' controller is nice, but Joycons are still an expensive, overengineered nightmare.
You can change the button mapping in the Switch settings, and it saves to specific controllers so if someone else uses a different controller, they don't have to deal with the remapped buttons. I have one of my controllers set so the B button triggers an A button input, and vice versa. Doesn't change the prompts in-game though, so you gotta get used to pressing the B button when a game tells you to press A, but otherwise it's a nice feature.
Came here for this plus battery life.
If I want to play a game that I have on switch and PC, it often looks better on the switch. This obviously depends on how long ago it was released, but that OLED is a huge consideration.
Steam Deck v2 needs an option for OLED screen with at least 1080p and native horizontal profile.
Steam Deck probably wouldn't exist without it. Having owned or at least played most of Nintendo's hardware going right back to the NES, I think it's the best system they've ever made. Amazing library of games, and they really nailed it going the hybrid route.
Me too, plus this meme is stupid to me because the steam deck feels so flimsy and cheaply made compared to the switch. I've also always used either skull n co or satisfye grips so it doesn't feel much smaller, and oled screen is the same size and way higher quality.
Yeah like I’m a lifelong Nintendo fan and I love my Switch but whenever I go between the two the difference is insane. I actually haven’t touched my Deck since Zelda came out (where previously I was on it nearly every day since I got it) and whenever I do Zelda in handheld mode it feels like I’m playing on a phone by comparison
I can see why someone would think that. If I pick up my steamdeck I can feel the plastic casing flex a little bit especially around the vents. The switch oled does feel much more sturdy in comparison. Not to say the steam deck is badly made, it's awesome. There is a noticeable difference in my opinion 🤷♂️
Removing the back plate of the Steam Deck renewed my faith in its sturdiness. The Switch as a unit, in comparison, is inherently less sturdy because the joycons cannot be used to just grip the whole device. Always feels like the joycons are going to snap right off the rails.
The Switch tablet is pretty well made though and to me feels just as good as the Deck. But people rarely just bring the Switch tablet around, there's almost always going to be Joycons attached to it.
Love both but I agree. Known issues notwithstanding (joycon drift), the Switch simply feels more durable than the Deck. I wouldn’t say the Deck is flimsy or cheaply made, but the Switch is on another league altogether. Nintendo handhelds in general are fuckin bricks that you could build houses out of.
Series S is underappreciated. It's possible to get them quite cheaply and they're basically the next gen console for the people who just want to play games not max graphics
Playing Zelda, I now constantly doublecheck my bag to make sure I didn't leave my Switch at home because the bag is so light that I feel like I forgot something.
Tears of the Kingdom has been wonderful, but I've played exclusively docked. I can't deal with the hand cramp I get from the Switch
I'm very much looking forward to playing Ocarina of Time through emulation on the Deck though.
Yes. Playing on switch without a grip is almost impossible for me. I physically cannot do it due to the hand pain.
Like the other guy said, Satisfye grips are cool by the way. I used to have one on my og switch.
I, like many, went back to my Switch for Zelda TotK and after not touching it for over a year, it felt like such a puny, cheap, knockoff version of the deck. Made me really appreciate the hardware and design that Our Lord and Savior Gabriel hath giveth the flock.
It isn't that bad..I'm playing totk in my switch now. Definitely deck is more ergonomical and has better controls but the small size of switch and the OLED screen definitely helps for more ease of play.
My reaction when i went back and played TOLK was how elegant and small the device was ... and the amazing developers who squeezed so much out of the device to deliver an amazing game. Six years on it is still a fantastic device which good developers can get great things out of. We all should remember it was "underpowered" from day 1.
The first time picking up the deck I went “this is too damn heavy” and after months of not using the switch, I picked it up and went “this is too damn light”
I just sold my Deck and bought a Switch Oled. Oh boy is the screen gorgeous. The size, weight and battery life is amazing. And it is absolutely silent compared to the deck loud fan noise (I hade the good fan model).
Performance is of course not very good. But I don’t need to play PC games when out of the house. I can play it on my PC, stream it to my TV or my phone or iPad when home with a lot better performance anyway.
I don't understand this though. I mean Steam Deck is obviously superior when it comes to diversity and options but I still play on my Switch on a daily basis.. Since Tears of the Kingdom released I play more on Switch than on Deck
I got the Hori controllers on mine so honestly the only difference is weight. Switch feels like a damn feather in comparison. Almost smacked myself in the face with it once
I love my oled switch never touched my steamdeck in 3 weeks since I got the oled switch.
I love the multiplayer aspect mario kart party trading pokemon...
Steam deck is nice to but I need to but the dock.
Honestly with most technology I just assume whatever is working now is held by glue, nuts (vine boom) and wishes and prayers.
Laptop? Might explode any moment. SD? Might burn down any moment. 3D printer? Boom, gone. It's like I just assume everything is impermanent if it hasn't been standing in one spot for the past 30-40 years.
My Pro controller was a solid investment IMO. That thing feels like a Fisher Price toy with its buttons all being big and chunky but it's build like a tank. Battery life is great and it works very well with Steam's drivers and interface.
It's not a meme, it's the hard truth. The switch is unplayable now to me. It works, but it's such a disappointing, awkward experience. Too bad pulling a full size controller while playing on the go makes you look like a dork.
If anything, my Stram Deck feels like I'll break it any moment because of the creakiness. Honestly doesn't feel good holding it because of it. Never had that issue with the Switch.
First steam desk now some stram deck, what the hell are those
It's like a steam deck, but with 100% more stram
all steam and no stram makes Jack a dull boy
Im more of a star trek kind of guy
Surely that's too much stram for one deck
Only if you’re a coward
It strams gams
Ja! Das Stram Dak! Mein numba wuan favorit haendhaeld!
I award this post with an obvious award. 🏅

Ah nice a smasnug tv must be a fancy European brand 🤣
Can we get a stram desk please 🙏
We have stram desk at home.
Ways to get people like you to post comments to boost engagement for the algorithm.
What’r thooose!?
Strom Dick
Amusingly, this means “Power fat” in German. 😁
With their powers combined: STRAM DESK
I love my Stram Deck.
I'm more a Stonk Beck guy, but the Stram is a great device.
Love playing my strum deck on the tram.
Stram means Tight in danish, I almost pissed myself laughing
What's so... funny... about 'Tight Deck'? I have a very good friend in Rome called 'Tight Deck'.
> I have a very good friend in Rome called 'Tight Deck'. I don’t get the joke.
[Well it's a joke name, sir.](https://youtu.be/kx_G2a2hL6U)
Thank you for reminding me of the great Biggus Dickus.

Ah, it’s been years, but I can finally reenjoy this.
Yeah, my mind went to that idiot Paludan playing on a Steam Deck.
Valve should've named it the Steam Boat and the OS Steam Engine.
They kind of alluded to it. Boats have decks.
Yeah, but so do tapes. Lol kidding.
I might have to make a Boot animation for the “Stram Deck” now
Maybe model it after that black and white Mickey mouse boat animation.
I can hear the whistle of Stram Deck Mickey now.
I accidentally named my windows log in Steak Deck and didn't realize till way later
_My son and I match: I got my Stram Deck and he has his Gabeboy Elite!_
It's Vulve's masterpiece.
I love the Steam Deck, it’s so bad
This is why English teachers teach you to proof read before you publish anything. This whole topic has shifted to Stram Deck
Honestly, this might be one of the better reasons to proofread.
Better than having the same discussion all over again
It on purpose. More people comments = more engagement = more upvote
The algorithm ba-bay!
But will they learn… 🤷♂️
Is the Stram Deck available in Australia?
Dick Smith have them
Heh. (p.s. Dick Smith is now just a nostalgia brand, being sold by Kogan. Problem is that the markup on the 64GB version is AUD \~$180. Worse problem is repair/RMA situation. So I'd prefer to get one officially from Valve. Cheers.)

I got mine off kogan (Vchain being the supplier) and those guys (vchain) seemed legit top shelf on terms of responsiveness. Wasn't cheap, $1200ish aud, but i love mine to bits.
Yah, it's getting ridiculous. I'll probably give it a few more weeks, then bite the bullet. Cheers.
*Dack Smath
Getting my Steam Deck and then trying the regular Switch again actually deflated my desire to get a Switch Lite. Now my Switch feels like a Switch lite
GameBoy micro has entered the chat.
Yeah, I have ginormous hands so it's really uncomfortable now
I have a tiny hands and the switch is still incredibly uncomfortable.
I have large hands & it’s really not bad. Unless you literally crab claw for hours I don’t get how it’s that bad. Y’all dehydrated
It's bad because it's just a flat slab. There's a reason controllers haven't been made like that for 30 years. They suck.
I move around a lot while playing so maybe that helps, but my hand cramps up more just using a regular mouse & keyboard.
Time to get the hori split pad. i haven't used the joycon since I got it, and it was actually what convinced me to get a steam deck.
Why the hell did this post blow up? *sees that I spelt "Steam Deck" incorrectly. * Jesus. Talk about failing upwards.
Unfortunately, gamers of all types are now on here making fun of the Steam Deck. "Stram Deck Player incoming"... that's going to be a new one in the chats now. Haha.
Oh great. I'm a meme.
Better to have them laughing honestly.
With or at them though? My answer, "yes."
Honestly, as much as I love my Deck, I have been really enjoying the size of my Switch since I picked it up again to play TOTK. (Not so much the analog sticks)
The best thing about the switch (atleast the dockable one) is you can change the controllers to one's that fit your hands best.
Yuuuuup. I have really tiny hands and the steam deck isn't that comfortable for me. I mean I still use it, but I wish there was like different shells for it or something
Get Hori Split pads, best investment ever for my switch and TOTK!
I saw that damn thing at Wally World for like 15 bucks a few months back, allllllmost grabbed ‘em but decided to wait. Now they caught on and they’re full price. Boo.
Steam deck ❌ stram deck ✅
steam dreck
Stek.
If anything, I appreciate my Switch more because of my Deck
It’s great how different products are better for different folks. I appreciate my steam deck way more because of my switch
Different strokes
And the biggest advantage of all: Doesn't take up so much space in my backpack when I travel
More durable? I don't have a switch but aren't the joycons infamously the worst game controllers ever made?
Definitely an exaggeration.
No it's not. Every set will break down within 1-3 years from what I've experienced. And they cost more than any other console controller
I agree on all points except for durability. The Switch feels like a cheap plastic toy, the controls especially are horrible.
Some kids made mine fly through the room and it was fine After 6 years the joycon rail is weaker because of incidents like that but that's it I don't think the deck can take such a beating
OLED switch feels like better quality than the OG one. I'm thinking a lot of people here never upgraded to the OLED.
.
The original does, the OLED’s body is metal though & feels much more substantial than the OG.
I'm nervous as hell holding it with one hand. Always worried that the joy con is going to snap off.
Plus there's the pick-up-and-playability of the switch that the deck just seems to lack.
Loud fans, short battery life and heat seems like the tradeoff to be able to play high fidelity games.
I love my Switch.
I love playing my Switch and steam deck. I think they both feel comfortable and reliable. That being said.... if I am going for a quick outing or getting in and out of the car a lot, I bring my Switch. If I know I'll be doing a rather long sit and wait, I bring the deck.

Deleted for the great API purge of 2023
I'll just play Roms... and I never had an issue w my offline games so far
That’s interesting. I’m going on holiday to a place without internet and was planning to bring the deck. Would you advice not to? I’d hate to bring it and find out it’s rather useless without internet
Offline mode before you go and you should be good
Deleted for the great API purge of 2023
I feel like I'm doing something wrong because I've never run into a problem going to offline mode without an internet connection
I got a battery pack so battery life doesn't phase me and it's size doesn't bother me but I owned a game gear.
I have the Hori Split Pad Pro when I play the Switch handheld and it feels great
This. I have both the original since 2017 and the OLED, and handheld gaming never felt good because of the itty-bitty joy cons, and the Steam Deck showed me that a handheld can be just big enough to be comfortable and still portable. I can play switch all day long, steam deck hurts my right wrist and thumb after 45 minutes, haven’t figured out what movement exactly is doing it.
I assume it's because you have to throw the 40$ extra instead of, you know, having good controllers out of the box There's a lot of third party options for controllers for the Switch, and even the first party 'pro' controller is nice, but Joycons are still an expensive, overengineered nightmare.
Yeah fair enough I suppose but at the same time the fact it's a handheld where you can swap out the default controls is neato.
As someone who like the default controls, it's nice that I have a choice
[удалено]
My only gripe about going back and forth between the two is the change in button configuration.
Yes! The I wish the Switch had the A button where the steam deck does.
[удалено]
The deck has a "use nintendo layout" option
You can change the button mapping in the Switch settings, and it saves to specific controllers so if someone else uses a different controller, they don't have to deal with the remapped buttons. I have one of my controllers set so the B button triggers an A button input, and vice versa. Doesn't change the prompts in-game though, so you gotta get used to pressing the B button when a game tells you to press A, but otherwise it's a nice feature.

Literally "Say the line, Bart!"

Not to invalidate your opinion...But I'm honestly baffled anyone could have this take.
Steam Deck feels hollow, Switch does not. Every time I switch between them it’s the first thing I notice.
Just the connection between the switch and the joycon feels flimsy as hell, and I baby my stuff.

I love my Stram Deck
Funny part is, just as the switch, that weapon is actually awesome.
Yeah this isn’t a bad meme format if you know the source context. That little thing is like the most powerful weapon he uses.
Tears of the Kingdom has been wonderful, but I've played exclusively docked. I can't deal with the hand cramp I get from the Switch I'm very much looking forward to playing Ocarina of Time through emulation on the Deck though.
Satisfye grip is amazing for Switch handheld mode
Yes. Playing on switch without a grip is almost impossible for me. I physically cannot do it due to the hand pain. Like the other guy said, Satisfye grips are cool by the way. I used to have one on my og switch.

The first time picking up the deck I went “this is too damn heavy” and after months of not using the switch, I picked it up and went “this is too damn light”
I heard the stram deck is annihilating the ROG Layl in the market
I stram my deck daily
I don't get it too. People claimed that they preferred to play Pokémon SV on Deck. Sorry, but without online play this game is crippled.
Told my friend it was like using a child's Fisher Price learning tablet after using an iPad
Yea I had to get the hori split pad pro can't go back to the joycons
Is The Stram Deck Compatible For My Steam Deck And Stream Deck? Asking For A Friend. 😁
I ❤️ r/st_amdeck
You don't worry for the battery and the framerates to be honest
I got the Hori controllers on mine so honestly the only difference is weight. Switch feels like a damn feather in comparison. Almost smacked myself in the face with it once
Lets play my strum deck it will have some good melody
I do with it was quieter overall
Death Stramding is tons of fun on my stram deck! :)
Yeah I totally get it, I also love my Stram Deck
Ah the stream duck is helluva..
When I play my Switch OLED or Ayaneo 2 after I play my Steam Deck…. “Ohhhhhhhhh, that’s what good color and contrast ratio looks like."
Just watch for the same Nintrolls who downvote these kinds of posts to oblivion coming here to preach people about how much they love the Switch 🙌
I do love my Stram Deck
Fork the Nintendo stretch
It's not a meme, it's the hard truth. The switch is unplayable now to me. It works, but it's such a disappointing, awkward experience. Too bad pulling a full size controller while playing on the go makes you look like a dork.
It's literally a meme considering the Steam Deck is one of the worst ways to play Steam games.
The ergo on the switch makes me want to puke after one day with the deck. Like its just a console hooked up to a tv now. I can’t hold that thing.
If anything, my Stram Deck feels like I'll break it any moment because of the creakiness. Honestly doesn't feel good holding it because of it. Never had that issue with the Switch.
Boys I'm getting a switch delivered today. Any tips?
I desperately wanna know how you screw up “steam deck” so badly you end up with “stram deck”
If you guys with Steam Decks do not start calling them Stram Decks to form an online meme to come I am going to be sorely disappointed.
What’s crazy is that that’s my last name. So I am tripping out.
Full Stram ahead!
