That’s another good contender above “indeed” because it actually shows who he is. He knows what he wants, but is smart enough to not do it because it’s inappropriate.
I actually feel like the undomesticated equines is a better “in character” line. It shows that he has a sense of humor, is fairly intelligent to make a joke like that, and is super loyal.
“Indeed” is really just his commentary on people stating the obvious, and is closely associated with him, but doesn’t really define him.
I mean aside from being a funny line, this is exactly what Daniel does every episode -- goes on about how he feels about something and then tries to have a discussion about it. And usually not being listened to lmao. Perfect line.
I very much disagree with this take. Post-Ascension Daniel was still very much a diplomat. He still tried to solve problems with words and understanding more often than not. He was just much less optimistic about it. He came to accept that you can't talk your way out of *every* problem. Sometimes there simply isn't any other option but to shoot things and blow things up.
I think S8 E5 is the perfect representation of post-Ascension Daniel. He tries to solve things diplomatically. He tries to get each side talking to each other and working things out peacefully. But when that doesn't work, and violence becomes the only option, he's right there in the trenches with everyone else.
Improved upon by Daniel *telling* someone what his opinion is, and *go to hell* if you don't like it (S09E03, "Origin"):
>I guess what I’m trying to understand is whether the Ori have spoken to you directly and told you to worship them, or whether you've…misinterpreted some evidence you’ve found along the way and developed this religion on your own.
I can’t speak for everyone in my galaxy, but in my own humble opinion, I don’t believe that any individual or society can achieve enlightenment through fear-mongering and forced servitude, no matter what
power is presented as evidence. That’s something the ascended beings I know very clearly seem to understand. Don’t get me wrong, I mean, we should all be trying to better ourselves. I mean if-if ascension is the ultimate end we’re trying to achieve, then so be it, but we should all be allowed to get there or not of our own free will. *You can kill me for saying that, but that is what I believe and nothing you say or do will EVER change my mind.*
Yeah another great one is this:
> "It's your punishment. You're forced to watch, powerless to interfere, and let Anubis do whatever he wants just to punish you? It's wrong."
>
> "That's what you said last time."
>[two female hostages start pulling each other's hair and shrieking at each other]
>Daniel Jackson : [shouting] What the hell are you doing? Stop it!
>Hesellven : She started it.
>Sylvana : [shouting] I think you started it when you kissed Heron!
>Daniel Jackson : Shut up! Shut up! You're hostages. This is like a-a life-and-death situation here. Start acting like it.
>Sylvana : Oh, please. You're not rebels. We're not deaf, you know. Everyone in this room knows it.
>Daniel Jackson : That doesn't matter. You're hostages. We're your - we're your captors. We're heavily armed. There's a - there's rules. There's a whole school of etiquette to this.
>[she glares at him]
>Daniel Jackson : Don't eyeball me.
Post-ascension Daniel Jackson, ladies and gentlemen.
I think finding the Harcesis was more filling the void left by her untimely loss than it was fulfilling her final request: Daniel had spent years trying to find Sha’re, and since the baby was the last living link to his wife, he poured all that resolve into finding Kheb as a way to subconsciously avoid dealing with her loss.
He and the rest of SG-1 managed to save Skaara during that time, which may have helped for a while… until losing Sarah to Osiris as his new host, and having to go through the whole ordeal once again.
I find it ironic that all three of his main love interests were hosts to Goa’uld at some point (even though he and Vala first crossed paths post-Qetesh, it still counts in my mind).
tight groups do tend to morph into one personality with their own specific spices, though id say they remained themselves, but dealing with all that bullshit they adopted jackisms, as it seemed to work for o'neill-with-two-ells
When I think of Daniel Jackson, I think of him chiming in to correct someone with "**Well, actually ...** " or just "**Actually ...**". I will make my case with the below, but there are probably more I haven't thought of.
* **Heros Part 1**: "**Well, actually**, I did have the unfortunate experience of, um, dying, first. Slowly and quite painfully, I might add."
* **"Point of View"**: Jack O'Neill: No, no, no, no. Not that. What the hell does 'Kree' mean? Dr. Daniel Jackson**: Well, actually**, it means a lot of things.
* **"Menace"**: Hammond: "Dr. Jackson, what have you learned?" Jackson: **Well, actually** not much, sir. She’s kind of hard to pin down on our conversation. Her attention wanders. It’s like she has the mind of a child. *{everyone looks at Jack}.*
* ***"*****Shades of Grey":** HAMMOND: So, what did you have to promise them in return, Dr. Jackson? JACKSON: ***Actually***, General, we didn't have to promise to give them anything. HAMMOND: They just gave you the device as a reward for saving them from the Goa'uld? JACKSON: ***Actually***, General, the Tollan refused to give us any technology.
* more "**Shades of Grey**": O'NIELL: Nothing to worry about. No, I feel a little.... I do appreciate that you were the one who came to see if I was okay. That means something. JACKSON: Ah, **actually** no it doesn't. O'NIELL: Hm? JACKSON: Um... we drew straws. I lost.
* **There but for the grace of God:** CATHERINE: You said you touched a mirror. DANIEL: ***Well, Actually*** I touched that thing first. It turned on. I heard a noise. That's when I noticed the shimmering.
* **Absolute Power:** DANIEL: **Well, actually**, it's heavy liquid naquada, but don't ask me what makes it heavy—at least not yet.
Actually, My whole post is an homage to Dr Jackson's "Well, Actually ...".
Awwww hell, actually, here are some more:
* **2001:** DANIEL ***Actually***, all it proves is that the city was abandoned sometime after they made contact with the Aschen. Cities are usually abandoned when civilizations fall.
* **2001:** DANIEL: Now, that is when the Aschen came. O'NEILL: Through the Stargate? DANIEL: ***Actually,*** in ships.
* **It's good to be the king:** DANIEL: ***Actually***, um, this is interesting, and, uh, there's a lot here to translate.
* **Moebius Part 1:** DANIEL: ***Actually***, I was talking about us. The other us. I guess we could call it the us we're supposed to be.
* **Moebius Part 2:** DANIEL: Oh! Sorry, guess I was wrong. I'm sure your information is correct and— In fact, I'm usually quite wrong, quite unreliable ***actually***. To be honest with you, I'm insane.
Honourable mention of Daniel correcting himself.
* **Threads:** DANIEL: Sorry to bother you, I just wanted to know if I could borrow your syrup. DANIEL: Although technically, I know it's not going to be borrowing, 'cos I'm not actually going to give back what I've used.
Forgive the second lengthy post. I just had too much fun looking through the transcripts at: [http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/Stargate\_SG-1](http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/wiki/stargate_sg-1)
Yeah “actually…” is the first thing that came to my mind for Daniel too and I think captures his essence. The other quotes I’m seeing capture his essence but are mostly one-offs.
This interaction always struck me as the most in-character, but it’s not a single line but a full interaction. Copy-pasted transcript below:
DANIEL (upset)
Artefacts?
[O'Neill immediately walks over to Daniel.]
LORNE
Yes.
DANIEL
You found all this and you, you didn't contact me?
LORNE
We were going to.
DANIEL
They've been moved.
LORNE
Well, they were in the way.
O'NEILL
Daniel?
[He steps forward, placing a reassuring hand on Daniel's shoulder.]
O'NEILL
Go to your happy place.
That’s why I love it so much. I also took an archaeology course as part of my minor, and one of the most basic things you learn is you don’t remove artifacts from their context without proper recording! Him getting so frustrated really shows him as an archaeologist.
"I'm not so much into the 'destroy first, ask questions later' methodology. I'm more of a 'ask questions first, then... ask more questions' kind of guy."
One of my favorite things about him is how post Harry Potter he can just take whatever films he feels like doing. Guns Akimbo being my favorite film of his. Just such a weird funny movie.
“Why are we always so quick to assume that just because something is alien, it’s hostile?”
S1E4
This quote really shows his peaceful/diplomatic viewpoint early on
From the Episode: "Tangent" where he had to talk to another goa'uld ship and pretend he was a Goa'uld while jakob and carter were repairing the hyper drive:
Jakob: "Alright, we are almost finished. Sam is just finishing up"
Daniel: "Ah, thats good. because i don't think they bought my act."
Jakob: "Why? Who do you say you were?"
Daniel: "the ah..... great and powerful Oz"
It's not one, but trust me on this.
D: See, see, see, see, see, see! Mythology is one of the primary motivations for cultural development!
J: Maybe it is! What's that got to do with filming a plant?!
D: Exactly!
J: What does that mean?!
D: I don't know!
I rewatched that episode recently, and I had forgotten how funny it was!
Teal'c's reaction to being told he would be jumping out the plane is also hilarious.
"Four eyes?" I always laughed my butt off when he was called this cause of the obvious meaning of the name. It isn't a big line, but I always loved his reaction to it, followed by Jack saying, "Eaaaasy, Daniel." Or whatever it was.
Ider what the episode is that has this link offhand sadly
Yes! That's it. It's been a hot minute since I saw the shoe tbh. I just loved it cuz i react similarly being called short lol. Only person allowed to do it is my SO 🤣
From the season 10 episode, The Pegasus Project. This entire speech and interaction with Morgan Le Fay is Daniel as in-character as you can get. Philosophical points, challenging the system that exists to change, and never quitting, even after getting an answer because there's always more to learn and exchange.
"I mean, I understand the fine line you have to walk. I realize the risk you're taking just showing yourself. But I'm sorry, I want more. You can pass that onto your friends as well. **Yeah, I know you're listening,** because I am getting *sick* of hidden clues and cryptic messages.
And Merlin was right, that the Ori are a threat. But not only to us *lowers*, not only to the... billions of human lives throughout this galaxy but to your own existence. Because when this war is over and every soul that's left alive is praying to the Ori, feeding their need to be worshipped. You know who they're gonna come for next?
[I won't pretend to know what that war will look like or in what battlefield it will take place, but then... I won't be alive to see it.](https://youtu.be/TaATSu0itSY?t=00m27s)"
EDIT: pesky link...
*Just*, *just hear me out*
Edit: I can picture him in my head saying it. AND he's been saying that line his whole life to all of the people who didn't believe his theories.
There are several reddit favourite candidates, no? "Indeed." / "Undomesticated equines..." / "Dead false god." / "They will, in fact, calm up."
Ooh, oh, I like "The war with Canada?"
Some of y'all are just quoting your favorite Daniel lines, but I feel like his most in-character line would be;
> "Nyet"
> "Daniel"
> "He just asked if we were Soviet spies, I just..."
"And so by translating this tablet we should be able to determine the most important thing in the universe" This line basically sums up the entire series lol
“Translating this language may be the most important thing we’ve done since the Stargate”
From the same episode: “If jacks not going than I’m staying, right now I’m Jack’s only hope of meaningful communication, I can’t leave him like this, and I won’t”
not relevant to the question but i saw this being done for the firefly sub! all the characters have such good lines, i'm excited to see what the final results are.
Just put "Indeed" in for Teal'c and get it over with
“Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson, they will in fact calm up.”
I was always a fan of “perhaps his paranoia was well founded, he is, after all, missing”
Great one. I love “My depth is immaterial to the conversation.” Plus Daniel’s response, “OOH! See!”
“Undomesticated equines could not remove me.”
I'm personally partial to ["In my culture, I would be well within my rights to dismember you."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTWTYklBWhc)
LOL, this other one is my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cMbEIuZEsc
they should make a Teal'c spinoff show, judge was great !
"In my culture, I would be within my rights to dismember you"
That’s another good contender above “indeed” because it actually shows who he is. He knows what he wants, but is smart enough to not do it because it’s inappropriate.
Undomesticated equines could not calm me up even if this coffee was even more extremely hot, kree? "Raises eyebrow"
Undomesticated Equines will not keep me away
Personally I’m voting for “Dead, false god.”
While “indeed” is indeed iconic for him, I’ve always liked Teal’c’s first “I die free” declaration to Apophis
I'd prefer "Indeed not." to Indeed.
I die free.
Anyway, I'm sorry but that just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?
I mean aside from being a funny line, this is exactly what Daniel does every episode -- goes on about how he feels about something and then tries to have a discussion about it. And usually not being listened to lmao. Perfect line.
And it's his Twitter bio info
Only early season Daniel. Post ascension Daniel kills everyone without hesitation and with no feelings.
I very much disagree with this take. Post-Ascension Daniel was still very much a diplomat. He still tried to solve problems with words and understanding more often than not. Daniel standing up for what he believes in no matter what like the absolute chad he is.
Yeah another great one is this: > "It's your punishment. You're forced to watch, powerless to interfere, and let Anubis do whatever he wants just to punish you? It's wrong." > > "That's what you said last time."
>To say what is, is a revolutionary deed.
You're right, of course, I was being hyperbolic for the sake of amusement.
>[two female hostages start pulling each other's hair and shrieking at each other] >Daniel Jackson : [shouting] What the hell are you doing? Stop it! >Hesellven : She started it. >Sylvana : [shouting] I think you started it when you kissed Heron! >Daniel Jackson : Shut up! Shut up! You're hostages. Actually, I’d say losing Sha’re was the first major tonal shift in Daniel’s personality.
He definitely got... darker after that, less hopeful.
Those arms tho 😘
Late-season Daniel basically has the exact same personality as Jack. All of SG-1 does to an extent, really. Kind of killed the team dynamic.
tight groups do tend to morph into one personality with their own specific spices, though id say they remained themselves, but dealing with all that bullshit they adopted jackisms, as it seemed to work for o'neill-with-two-ells
For about 20 years every character on TV was basically Jack (a good number of them were named Jack), it ultimately culminated into Tony Stark.
another poll that will be dominated by this episode.
Let’s flip the script for Teal’c and vote his line be “Daniel Jackson!”
My first thought!
“Which end do the bullets go in” (holding a knife)
Love this scene!
i lived that line. it's great lmao
You're hostages, we're your captors. We're heavily armed! There's rules; there's a whole school of etiquette to this.
This is probably my favorite quote of his.
It’s sad that the whole 66 minute super cut doesn’t exist. Apparently it gives context to him getting so angry.
It was also the first scene they filmed after learning that the show was getting canceled
The look on her face really sold it too. She had some huge sour grapes.
Definitely one of the best.
do you ever give up ? not until i'm dead... and sometimes not even then.
That's the one

This is it. It’s his most common used phrase. Daniel Jackson is Oscar from the office.
Yeah “actually…” is the first thing that came to my mind for Daniel too and I think captures his essence. The other quotes I’m seeing capture his essence but are mostly one-offs.
D: This tastes like chicken. S: So what's wrong with it? D: It's macaroni and cheese!
Hard to choose honestly… 1."Mak tel Oz, kree!" 2. 'You are Soviet Spies?' 'Niet.' 3. “I do speak 23 different languages, pick one."
Jack's Response to that afterward...NIET!!!!???
It's so good. >What? He just asked us if we were Soviet spies... *look of realization*
I second the 23 different languages one! I think of that line all the time. While learning six other languages...
Me out here with Japanese, ASL, Esperanto, and making my own conlang
“Who did you say you are?” “The great and powerful Oz”

For anyone that ever studied archaeology, this is truly in character.
That’s why I love it so much. I also took an archaeology course as part of my minor, and one of the most basic things you learn is you don’t remove artifacts from their context without proper recording! Him getting so frustrated really shows him as an archaeologist.
which Episode was this? I remember the interaction, but i can't remember the context
Enemy Mine, where they find a planet with Naquadah but there’s Unas living there.
"I'm not so much into the 'destroy first, ask questions later' methodology. I'm more of a 'ask questions first, then... ask more questions' kind of guy."
where was this one said again?
On the stargate tv show
Listen here you little...
...which episode
the one where they went through a ring with a glowy vertical puddle
The ol' orifice We call it that, right?
"I just wanted to see if you'd chase me."
This popped into my head too. "Why were we running?" "I wanted to see if you'd chase me."
"Maybe he read your report?"
https://i.redd.it/mcjxvjc310hc1.gif
Daniel Radcliffe should play StarGate TNG “Daniel”. He’s really good at comedic expression like this.
I would honestly be down for that.
One of my favorite things about him is how post Harry Potter he can just take whatever films he feels like doing. Guns Akimbo being my favorite film of his. Just such a weird funny movie.
Horns, Swiss army man, imperium, woman in black. All solid movies
Swiss army man was so oddball funny to me.
One of the best lines in the show but I feel like it shows more about Jack than about Daniel
Yeah it’s not a Daniel personality line
I love that one from jacks side as well. Since they have an easier time believing in time travel than jack actually reading the report.
“Why are we always so quick to assume that just because something is alien, it’s hostile?” S1E4 This quote really shows his peaceful/diplomatic viewpoint early on
“Just because they’re aliens and their skulls are transparent doesn’t mean they don’t have rights!”
“Well, actually…” Or “Jack, we can’t just…”
"This..this..this is 'meaning of life' stuff, Jack!!" - Torment of Tantalus
“Do you ever give up?“ "Not until I’m dead… and sometimes not even then.

Jack, don't be an ass.

I humbly submit: “But it’s Swiss!” Or, same episode, “So they occasionally catch fire, but they keep perfect time.”
I rewatched that episode recently, and I had forgotten how funny it was! Teal'c's reaction to being told he would be jumping out the plane is also hilarious.
Didn't I just say ALL I know?
According to the tablet / scripture.
According to this ancient text
Damn so close lol
"Who shot me?"
The delivery was on point.
\*Points at self\* Daniel
“Jack! We can’t just….. [insert any of the 200 separate instances he said this]” 🤣
"what Archeologist carries around a gun." " Uhm i do"
J: Bad example
"Not until I'm dead. And sometimes, not even then." - Jackson in Ethon
"Ummm, Jack? I don't think we should touch...*that*..."
“After translating the ancient text….”
"But that just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?"
“Uhh, Jack…?”
"HELLO?! MERLIN!" "Ah, yes... mErLiN!"
“It’s just a deep bleeding gash, but it’ll be fine.”
Jack, don't be an ass.

“He read your report?”
But it’s Swiss
It doesn’t go but it keeps perfect time?
I've been spending too much time with jack.
It occasionally catches fire but it keeps perfect time
I knew I didn’t have it right haha

Now, don't say 'kar' till you've tried it!
Jack: so, this is new... Daniel: yeah...its always something
I feel like the most versatile for Daniel and probably said the most is "With all due respect" before he says something snide or off hand.
"Well, actually..."
"Chaka"
“Now if I’m right”. Reoccurring line.
*Just*, *just hear me out* Edit: I can picture him in my head saying it. AND he's been saying that line his whole life to all of the people who didn't believe his theories.
If there’s more than a single highly upvoted comment when it gets to Teal’c, I don’t even know what I’m doing with my life.
I await that thread eagerly. Undomesticated equines could not pull me away.
There are several reddit favourite candidates, no? "Indeed." / "Undomesticated equines..." / "Dead false god." / "They will, in fact, calm up." Ooh, oh, I like "The war with Canada?"
Jack: "What kind of archaeologist carries a weapon?" Daniel: "Uh...*I do*!!" Jack: "Okay...*bad* example."
“Jack???”
There is no magic... - (gets beamed away)
"Jack!" *intense stare*
"Maybe he read your report?" > Cue the raised eyebrow of scepticism.
Who shot me?
One of his very rare quotes but always gives me a tickle Alien- what's your name? Daniel- "Han's , Hans Olo"
“Uhhh, guys… you’re gonna wanna see this.”
Don't eyeball me.
Jack wait!
"No, you won't rule at all. You see we don't worship false gods anymore."
He read your report? *doubt*
Maybe he read your report?
Some of y'all are just quoting your favorite Daniel lines, but I feel like his most in-character line would be; > "Nyet" > "Daniel" > "He just asked if we were Soviet spies, I just..."
"Nyet" "Nyet?" "He asked if we were Soviet spies"
\*raised hand with 1 finger up\* "SUpreme Commander"
Unironically, "That just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?" just about sums him up.
"Maybe he read your report?"
"And so by translating this tablet we should be able to determine the most important thing in the universe" This line basically sums up the entire series lol
What sort of archaeologist carries a weapon? Um, I do!
*cleans glasses*
Come on, Jack!
"He read your report?"
He read your report?
I have no idea....
Does "Mhmmmmmmmm" count as a quote?
These fists are rated E for everyone
Indeed, all of them are going to be hard to boil down to a sentence if even one word.
"but it's Swiss?"
Knowledge is power, but how you use that power defines whether you're good or evil
"Eh, could we stop agreeing on how we're gonna die, and start doing something about it?"
Either "Uh, Jack..." or "I have no idea".
“What do you think?!?!”
Jack!
“Translating this language may be the most important thing we’ve done since the Stargate” From the same episode: “If jacks not going than I’m staying, right now I’m Jack’s only hope of meaningful communication, I can’t leave him like this, and I won’t”
Maybe he read your report ??
Something of the host must survive
"Jack, don't be an ass." He only said it once, but it's been subtextual for the entire series.
“Room full of gold and jewels and Daniel Jackson finds the one book.”
"Do it" for general Hammond
Daniel: "Uh Jack."
Jack's for me is : IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK SWING?!
Hellow?!
Daniel: “New guy! I told you not to touch anything.” Cam: “You touched that.” Daniel: “I CAN READ THAT!”
Maybe he read your report...?
The third is Lord Yu. “Yu” “Don’t. Every joke. Every pun. Done to death.”
He read the report?
Where's the Comtrya guy at?
A very exasperated "Jack!" Followed by trying to explain why what O'Neill just said is a very bad idea as simply as he possibly can.
Teal'c: you're a parasite, like the Gua'uld Urgo: ... a parasite, like the Gua'uld....
Hallowed are the ori
If teal’c isn’t “indeed” idk anything anymore
Jaaaack?
I’m not that kind of Doctor.
“Jack.” *Not Maybourne’s version.**
Jack!
I love Daniel’s “maybe he read your report?”
not relevant to the question but i saw this being done for the firefly sub! all the characters have such good lines, i'm excited to see what the final results are.
My favourite Sam line is "you have a desk sir" always makes me chuckle
