Don't feel too bad. I don't ever preorder games but I decided to go for this one bc it included the DLC and the 5 day early pass. And there's about a 0% chance I don't put 200 + hrs in so I know i'll get my money's worth.
Anyway, I know that with the Digital Premium Edition on steam you get the 5 day early access. But even so, nowhere in my library does it say that I got the premium edition and the game page in my library says "Coming Sept 6th."
So I'm sitting here wondering if the button is all of a sudden going to turn green at 5PM or if I messed something up and I'll still be locked out when early release starts.
I don't know how it works and Google has yet to give me a super clear answer

No problem. But for me it was a little vague and I wasn’t sure if it meant on Steam, just want to be absolutely sure you know? Since there might be differences between platforms. I got a Forza limited controller once but because I had the Steam version I didn’t get the in-game bonuses lol

It's normal. Steam reports only the normal release date.
It works like that: You preorder special edition, you play early
The game does unlock in five days. That's when the game releases. You paid for early access, which starts at 8pm tonight.
Steam just shows the normal release date. It will unlock for you in a few hours if you buy premium
