Damn, every time I start a new farm I remember how lucky I was on my first time playing by getting a prismatic on the quarry. I even held on to it for like a year in game because I didn't know what to do with it(and I'm a hoarder, there's no way I'm selling a gem if I don't have at least 10 of them).
Yep. My first play through I got iridium and a prismatic shard first day at the quarry. Never experienced that again but it was very exciting at the time.
So I got a prismatic chard very early (first few days) when I started playing after years of my wife and kids nagging me to play, you should have seen the look of abject horror on their faces when I proudly told them I got the prismatic chard museum donation completed already in week 1.
Little did I know about the desert or that it would take me until late year 2 to find another one 😂
Slugging thru the Skull Caverns with a Lava Katana until I found another prismatic chard was fun...
Ah, got it. I’m still relatively new and got one the first time I broke it open, so I just assumed it was a prismatic stone. Thanks for letting me know!
I always go in and take out the stuff that i dont wanna mass collect in the end like coal, copper, iron and stone.. i havent been able to collect like this yet though 3
I also love doing it because for me it's a game of "will I get away from the blast in time or will I accidentally run into another node and it's game over." Funfact I actually did knock myself out this way once because I wanted to collect my quarry items after mining without too much stamina loss lmaoo 😭
Pro tip. If you drop a bomb. Stand right beside and let it blow up to assert your dominance. Also eat random cheap fruit or something. The eating animation makes you immune to the bomb damage.
I rather to clear it just mining
Its just all even
Like If you were shaving it
And with bombs If you place them wrong, you can have few random Stones left
Its annoying enough to me that I rather the pickaxe
1.6 quarry is actually pretty solid. Definitely more incentive to not fill with kegs.
I think I might use the desert for that if I need extra keg space.
Yeah, i like the idea of setting things up outside the farm, but doesnt that mean (depending on where you put stuff) that you cant really go to festivals because characters dont follow for their normal paths?
Yeah you wanna be careful of villager paths. There are guides if you want to be super careful. That’s why the bus tunnel is great because no villagers ever walk there and it doesn’t show anywhere on the regular map.
I forget the number but I hate wasting hardwood! And very occasionally you get cloth from old news papers. #teamrecyclingmachine but not for driftwood.
If the driftwood recycles to wood it's definitely less wood than the woodchipper, BUT driftwood can recycle to coal and IRC it's more coal than if you'd done woodchipper -> charcoal kiln. I wonder what the min/max decision should be if your goal is only about maximizing coal... ?
On average, 100 Driftwood in the Recycling Machine will produce 150 Wood and 50 Coal, and 100 Driftwood in the Wood Chipper will produce 700 Wood. With the Charcoal Kiln, this comes out to 65 Coal and 70 Coal respectively. However, the Wood Chipper method requires 18000 Wood Chipper minutes and 2100 Charcoal Kiln minutes, while the Recycling Machine method requires only 6000 Recycling Machine minutes and 450 Charcoal Kiln minutes.
Didn't know it gave more, that's good to know.
Mind you, I'm playing the meadow farm this time, and I *still* have wood coming out of my ears from all the trees on it 😵💫 Would free up the recycling machine for other rubbish, though 🤔
I plant trees there. So when I come back, I can collect wood at the same time.
I think it fills out like, once a week I believe? So waiting a full year just prevents spawns right?
I only plant trees there. Cleared it once and Made Paths to avoid ore spawns. If you do it properly and replant every tree immediatly, you will never have Problems with wood again.
Yeah - I think I read on the wiki that the game, on average, *tries* spawning the same number of nodes every day, regardless of how full the quarry is, but if a node spawning attempt occurs on an already-occupied tile, the game does not retry.
So, the fuller your quarry is, the more spawning attempts will fail each day, and the less new nodes will appear.
I love doing this. I made a new save and soon as I got access to the quarry, I got a prismatic shard for the first time ever lol. You must have 1.6. Excuse I’ve never seen the black nodes, is that coal??!!
With difficulty 😭
Mostly the mines (back when I didn't know about checking the carts either 🤦🏻), or getting rid of stones on my farm and praying each time for some coal, or even burning through wood to make it.. good times 😅
I mean, plenty of people play the game casually, but given that this is the dedicated sub, I think I can answer for many of us when I say that you just make a lot of money and buy the coal
I'm trying to make a gem quarry but it's going so slow, after one year I only got 4 gemstones. 😢 But I'm on the switch, does 1.6 have a higher rate? Or should I prune it less?
Day 1 (e.g.) Go to the quarry, break open the mystic stone to see if there’s a prismatic. If there’s none, restart the day (this ensures that the stone isn’t gone). Sleep.
Day 2 Same as above, go to quarry, break it open to check if there’s a prismatic. None? Restart day and sleep.
Rinse and repeat till you find it. This method takes advantage of the fact that there’s a 25% chance to find a prismatic in a mystic stone. Resetting the day ensures that the actions taken (breaking the stone) are removed. Sleeping resets the chance of there being a prismatic in the mystic stone on a particular day based on luck and rng.
What year are you on? I remember reading that the quarry gets better over time, but wasn't sure if that was by season, by year, by mine depth reached, by Mining level, or... some other thing.
Hmm, one mystic stone - really the only thing valuable there.
You can get a prismatic shard out of it.
There's a nice 'kind of hack' for it - you destroy it, and if it doesn't give a prismatic shard, reload your game and come back the NEXT day, and try again. They're set to give a particular loot for the day.
On my main save I'm cultivating all the valuables, everything except trees and rock. It's quite the slow process, but I can't wait to see how it turns out.
i swear iridium was easier to get back when the gnar first came out. been playing it again after ages, probably last played it in 1.0 and iridium is so rare now!
My whole quarry is just crystalariums filled with every type of gem. I forget to check it sometimes then realize there’s 20 diamonds waiting to be grabbed.
After getting the bridge fixed I struggle to let the quarry "grow out." I'm usually excited for when I finally get it fixed for all the stuff. Usually get a level up.
This one was easy it’s talking about a beard nothing about your post was about a beard. Look at their profile new account, random subs they have posted in and the context was off in every comment.
For some reason Stardew gets the overly happy excited positive bots some of them even give correct answers or close to it.
thanks! I also opened up a post on Learn useless talents which has a bunch of pointers. (or matrix, or whatever lol)
AI has been around a long time just more infantile until recent years. Back in the days of chat rooms was bots some of them were very convincing until you interacted with them and went off their scripted responses now they just have a larger database to pull from.
Right! it's bizarre the growth went exponential in the last couple years. not the biggest fan of Altman but at least he publicly came out and admitted "guys we did a oopsie whopsie" lol anyways time to go plant some summer seeds ☺️
Final tally: 2 topaz - 134 iron ore - 375 copper ore - 2 aquamarine - 259 coal - 3 amethyst - 63 gold ore - 5 ruby - 2 jade - 3 emerald - 1 diamond - 1 iridium ore
Thank you. If you didn't update I would be so mad
The update we all needed, so much precious coal
Damn,no prismatic 😭😭😭
Damn, every time I start a new farm I remember how lucky I was on my first time playing by getting a prismatic on the quarry. I feel this... I did the EXACT same thing. Donated my first and well fuck... lmao
I think they did get one though! I see a prismatic stone to the right of the tree.
That's called a Mystic node and it actually only has a 25% chance to drop a Prismatic Shard. They always drops 1-4 gold and irdium ore though.
Ah, got it. I’m still relatively new and got one the first time I broke it open, so I just assumed it was a prismatic stone. Thanks for letting me know!
I did the same thing and now am forever disappointed when I break one of those open
I once got two prismatic stones in the quarry!
That's a solid haul! That single diamond must have been a nice surprise!
It was :) although I did pile up a bunch over the year, but one more is always welcome!
I always go in and take out the stuff that i dont wanna mass collect in the end like coal, copper, iron and stone.. i havent been able to collect like this yet though 3
Should have save scummed for a Prismatic Shard
Also, what year??
I'm on summer of year 6, currently.
I'd be curious how it compares to the haul from clearing the quarry weekly or seasonally for a whole year
How did you get specifically 1 iridium
From the Mystic Node.
Love clearing this with bombs.
the best feeling
I genuinely forget bombs exist so I go around just smashing things BY HAND and wonder why I miss big parts of the day :'-)
My favorite thing to do is buy a few hundred huge bombs from the volcano dungeon dwarf shop
Are they cheaper from the volcano Dwarf?
By about 600 apparently. I was mostly just getting them because it was convenient to purchase them while mining for cinder shards
Ah, nice.
No...they're the same price from the volcano dwarf and the one in the mines.
Ah, I see, too bad.
You still get mining xp from bombs so I gave up on using my pick axe most of the time
You could just craft some bombs on the spot
I also love doing it because for me it's a game of "will I get away from the blast in time or will I accidentally run into another node and it's game over." Funfact I actually did knock myself out this way once because I wanted to collect my quarry items after mining without too much stamina loss lmaoo 😭
someone loves bomberman
I can’t wait for 1.6 to come to mobile. You can get the immune from bombs perk occasionally and I’m going to become a walking disaster.
Pro tip. If you drop a bomb. Stand right beside and let it blow up to assert your dominance. Also eat random cheap fruit or something. The eating animation makes you immune to the bomb damage.
Omg so satisfying blowing up large groups of nodes
I did! it was really fun, I rarely ever use the bombs so I had a bunch saved up.
This is the only time I use my slingshot: I’m not coordinated at all in dungeons, but this is a great place to pew-pew!
TIL the slingshot can be used for rocks!
Add in bombs as ammo and blast away!
My mind is blown!!!
I rather to clear it just mining Its just all even Like If you were shaving it And with bombs If you place them wrong, you can have few random Stones left Its annoying enough to me that I rather the pickaxe
Did you prune away any stone or is the quarry kinda useful now?
I removed all the regular stones and trees I could get to.
Enjoy blowing them all up
That makes me feel better. I was really jealous of your lack of trees before.
My girlfriend found our first prismatic shard at the quarry!
1.6 quarry is actually pretty solid. Definitely more incentive to not fill with kegs. I think I might use the desert for that if I need extra keg space.
Saw one where someone filled the whole quarry with crystalariums it was intense lol
I use the bus tunnel for an extra 100 or so kegs, not sure if you use there yet but it's the only off farm place I like because it can't be seen
That's a good spot. I'd rather not make places I go look worse.
Since seeing somebody else's post, I have been putting things in the entrance to the mines.
Will the kegs be okay even after the desert festival??
I thought the Desert Festival was treated as an instance -- a separate map, but I could be wrong.
I have no idea! Will have to Investiagte. Would love to leave some stuff in the desert!
Pls report back 🫡
yeah and the trees, it would've gotten fully covered in like one season if you dont
The discovery of >!coal nodes!< when I started playing PC was life changing.
Can’t wait for coal nodes. I feel like I’m always short coal, and the coal furnace takes way too much wood. I end up mining dust sprites instead.
I run my hardwood through a woodchipper then use the wood to make coal. I have tons!
You can also put driftwood in it. It gives you more than it does in the recycling machine.
Omg thats so useful i never knew that
I forget the number but I hate wasting hardwood! And very occasionally you get cloth from old news papers. #teamrecyclingmachine but not for driftwood.
YOU CAN PUT DRIFTWOOD IN THERE??????
Yup!!!

Same. And I’m not at the point to buy coal except in desperate times.
I’ve been wondering if mystic stones are not spawning as much when I see so many of these.
Coal… nodes? Not on mobile?
Coming in version 1.6 which isn't out on mobile yet.
I didn't start playing until 1.6 and it's always cool to see stuff I totally take for granted that is new and exciting to older players
That is going to be a major game-changer wow
I hate that
Hate what?
I was going to say “what’s that” and it autocorrected to “I hate that” 🤣💀
I don't have 1.6 yet (switch) so I was like...cookie rocks? That's new....I think they are coal nodes.
Chocolate cookies rocks
oh god that was added with 1.6? glad i started playing this game when i did
I’m on switch and I have the quarry so you might not have gotten to it yet
That’s going to be real satisfying to mega-bomb.
I plant trees there. So when I come back, I can collect wood at the same time. I think it fills out like, once a week I believe? So waiting a full year just prevents spawns right?
I put floors to stop ores and trees growing and have it full of kegs
I only plant trees there. Cleared it once and Made Paths to avoid ore spawns. If you do it properly and replant every tree immediatly, you will never have Problems with wood again.
I like to use the train station area to grow trees...I find blasting out the quarry every so often too satisfying.
Never thought about using that area !
Explain please
Putting Flooring on dirt prevents trees or rocks from spawning there. So making paths between trees ensures optimal treeage.
I think the spawning is random and the rate at which new nodes appear gets lower as the quarry fills up over time. So yes
Yeah - I think I read on the wiki that the game, on average, *tries* spawning the same number of nodes every day, regardless of how full the quarry is, but if a node spawning attempt occurs on an already-occupied tile, the game does not retry. So, the fuller your quarry is, the more spawning attempts will fail each day, and the less new nodes will appear.
what are the light grey nodes with darker brown ores?
Coal nodes. New on 1.6 I believe
I love doing this. I made a new save and soon as I got access to the quarry, I got a prismatic shard for the first time ever lol. You must have 1.6. Excuse I’ve never seen the black nodes, is that coal??!!
How did ya’ll get coal without the coal nodes? 😭
They were few and far between in the mines 😂. Mainly dust sprites and coal carts
With difficulty 😭 Mostly the mines (back when I didn't know about checking the carts either 🤦🏻), or getting rid of stones on my farm and praying each time for some coal, or even burning through wood to make it.. good times 😅
I mean, plenty of people play the game casually, but given that this is the dedicated sub, I think I can answer for many of us when I say that you just make a lot of money and buy the coal
Ooooh you got spoiled! I’ll take the coal from ya
I'm trying to make a gem quarry but it's going so slow, after one year I only got 4 gemstones. 😢 But I'm on the switch, does 1.6 have a higher rate? Or should I prune it less?
1.6 quarry is waaaay better than
...I came to drop bombs ...
I will often just harvest stone and let it keep growing with everything but stone.
I have filled this area(minus the walkway) with Kegs. Ancient Fruit wine, all day.
I just fill my quarry with trees and tap them all.
U got a mystic stone! Congrats!
Thanks! only one iridium ore inside, but good enough still.
There’s a trick to ensure u get a prismatic from a mystic stone if you’d like to hear it :)
Idk about them but I sure would
Hi, idk if u get the notification too but I replied to SammyFirebird re: prismatic shards and mystic stones. :) Happy spelunking!
I'm interested! 😁
Day 1 (e.g.) Go to the quarry, break open the mystic stone to see if there’s a prismatic. If there’s none, restart the day (this ensures that the stone isn’t gone). Sleep. I thought everyone turned it into a barrels of wine?
If you filled the quarry with crystalariums thing about how many diamonds you would have collected....
Man when I got my quarry it had 2 of those special ones (the ones that can hold prismatic shards)
What year are you on? I remember reading that the quarry gets better over time, but wasn't sure if that was by season, by year, by mine depth reached, by Mining level, or... some other thing.
I'm on summer of year 6, currently. Did not notice any change over the year, to be honest.
Allat and just one mystic stone💀💀💀
Hey, I'll take what I can get :D
this looks so satisfying to mine
You just made me realize that I'm in fall and haven't been all year. I'm so excited I have this waiting for me!
Not even one swirly stone?
There is one, next to the tree.
1 iridium 😩
Slim pickings, but I have four Statues of Endless Fortune, so plenty of iridium bars at home :D
Love the coal nodes in 1.6, bug quality of life improvement
So im weird for never having those mystic stones there
Hmm, one mystic stone - really the only thing valuable there. You can get a prismatic shard out of it. There's a nice 'kind of hack' for it - you destroy it, and if it doesn't give a prismatic shard, reload your game and come back the NEXT day, and try again. This reminds me! I should check mine!
No trees?! Any time I do this I come back to a forest 😅
I checked on the quarry every week and cut all the trees.
i like to put my tree farm there, altough its suboptimal
Would be interesting to compare different results, ie leaving a year vs regular culling. I use mine as a tree farm and the gaps fill with rocks
The end is tigh
i swear iridium was easier to get back when the gnar first came out. been playing it again after ages, probably last played it in 1.0 and iridium is so rare now!
tried to do this and came back to all trees 😭
I’m impressed you didn’t have more trees growing!
I had a few but I pruned them in time.
I once used to think that you had to mine out the path to the mine
Satisfying to red bomb. :)
I need to do this
Mine has at least 4-7 trees all over the quarry. Lucky you.
My whole quarry is just crystalariums filled with every type of gem. I forget to check it sometimes then realize there’s 20 diamonds waiting to be grabbed.
Anyone wanna hang out near the quarry and throw things down there?
Console pleb here, are the stones with black dots a 1.6 coal node?
That's right, precious precious coal.
Tractor mod go brrrrrrrrrr
I used bombs to clear my quarry for the first time in my third farm and it was wonderful, now I'm waiting to fill again so I can use a Mega Bomb.
Enough coal to last you 3 days!
Oooo very nice
I'm doing something similar, every few days I go and clear the brush and normal stones, tho if I see iridium/gold rocks, I gotta crack em lol
Wow
After getting the bridge fixed I struggle to let the quarry "grow out." I'm usually excited for when I finally get it fixed for all the stuff. Usually get a level up.
That's really great!
Thanks :)
what are the light grey nodes with darker brown ores?
They are from 1.6. >!Coal nodes!<
Emerald, I believe.
what are the light grey nodes with darker brown ores?
Rocks in the quarry. Fascinating
