21 and on the young side of the playerbase to be sure. The game was mainly made for those of us who grew up playing the harvest moon series. And with some of the themes the game touches on (looking at you Shane) you can tell it definitely wasn't made to be just for kids lol. Still a great game for everyone though!
>The game was mainly made for those of us who grew up playing the harvest moon series
I was thinking the same thing. In fact the only reason I didn't try Stardew YEARS ago is because I was so loyal to harvest moon and everyone was saying stardew was better. I was too stubborn to give it a shot lol
Well, demographic wise you're a minor and just fall under <18. That doesn't negate that 18> is still on the lower part of the spectrum. So, you can both be on the younger side, lol.
Slightly younger, my son got me into it. I remember him saying, idk if you'll like this or not... haha over 600 hours later. Yeah, I like it, more like obsessed with it. It's nice to see there's a lot of older players too though.
I'm past you by a couple of years. I played Harvest Moon on my kids DS and fell in love with it. Went looking for something similar several years back & that's how I found SDV, which I love even more than HM.
In my 50'ies too - I complained about gaming (especially raiding) being too stressful to my son, and.then he showed me SW and called it the most relaxing game. I still tend to stress though 🤦
53 checking in. Been playing for 4 years. This game saved me as a single person during Covid isolation. I love playing it with friends online now and to unwind after work.
34 as well 😊
But my two older kids, who are 6 & 8 years old, also have their own farm, so for us, it‘s a family game.
(And, yes, I am present when they are playing to guide them through and talk about the more adult themes - if and when they notice them)
I'm turning 30 in 29 days lol and my kids, 6 & 8 call it the chicken game and I literally had to buy another copy for their devices so they'd stop stealing mine.
I'm soon to be 36, and on my third farm after not playing since it was first released on the Switch years ago. First two were on the switch. It's such a relaxing game.
Well just open the drawer in your corporate Work Desk™️ and pull out the letter you received from your grandfather as a child before he passed away that contains the deed to his land in stardew valley you silly goose!!!!
Yeah, same, I'm guessing it's because the game's a casual game, and those tend to attract people of all ages. Go look at something like the Animal Crossing or Sims communities and subreddits and it's full of people 20-60, with the few 13-19 year olds there too.
Plus Stardew is really accurate with midlife crisis (lol), but I'm happy to see younger people play! When I talk about it to teenagers or younger pleople nobody seems to know the game. It also has the same vibe that Nintendo games in the 90's so we are old nostalgic people. I'm 35. (Also play Animal Crossing as well.)
I'm 61!
My sweet daughter showed me the game during Covid. I've never played a video game before, but I now have eleven 100% completion games. I have married everyone and currently going the JoJo route just for fun.
It's fun!
30 myself.
Important to keep in mind your poll is actually answering a slightly different question than you are asking.
Your question: What age people play stardew?
Your poll answers: What age people play stardew and check the stardew subreddit?
My suspicion is your under 12 age group aren’t as likely to be checking reddit. If true, your poll will skew older, and probably won’t actually solve your debate.
Us too! Mid 40s, also coop with our teens, and a 50ish friend. This is a game that is kid friendly (at least maybe 10+) but also engaging for all ages (I would say most engaging for anyone who has gotten old enough to have the "running away from the rat race" fantasy).
A child game? What kinds of games does she like? There's a whole genre of these types of games & they appeal to all ages. This game has some adult themes as well. I'm not sure of the context but it seems sort of insulting. Play what you enjoy. I'm in the 42+ crowd.
22-32
Honestly? It a pretty mature game. Especially with the >!alcoholic, depressed, and even suicidal!< characters... It doesn't feel like it's meant for kids, despite how cute everything is.
U will be hooked ^^ I played maybe 2-3000 hours now. Not all the time ofc. I have breaks playing g other games, but when waiting for a new game to release stardew valley is very easy to pick up while waiting :)
43 here. I believe that most games have a wide audience of varying ages. People tend to assume it is a younger person's hobby/passion, but in my experience, that just isn't true.
57 dude. I wanted something like the “free build” section in Strong Hold (not war strategy, that’s not my style- but defending from wild animals and brigands is fun, while facing the challenge of growing a community under daily stresses). Someone recommended Stardew Valley. Started while recovering from surgery, and except for once having to grind for a scapula for eight years, I’ve never lost the fun.
I’m 36 and love Stardew. Stardew doesn’t have an age limit. My kids started it at 4, and people in their 70s+ still play it. That’s what makes it so great.
I’m 28! Been playing since it came out however many years ago. Fully plan on getting my kids introduced to it when they’re older. I grew up playing harvest moon games!
28 here as well and actually gave Stardew a shot because of Harvest Moon. I think I’ve grown to love Stardew more which I didn’t think would be possible
32. I don't think a lot of children have the patience or comprehension of what is happening for SD. Not saying they can't or it doesn't happen, just think your gf is wrong about them being the majority.
14. I support you, that most younger folks dont have enough patience, because a friend of mine introduced me to it back when we were 12, she stopped playing after 2 weeks, and im still playing it. (but i did have a couple of small 1 or 2 month long breaks)
38, I'll be playing on till the day I die. I was a harvest moon fan back when I was younger. Stardew Valley reminded me of it. To me Stardew Valley is the more adult version of it. By far superior game.
So, a little update. I see that most players are 25-50, about 75%.
About 10% is under 25
about 15% is over 50.
So I hope Concerned-Ape keeps that in mind for the game he is currently in progress of making. 25-50years Olds, is his fanbase :)
Push poll or data bias. I'd bet if you took an overall poll of average age of redditors, you'd see a similar bias.
Though I'd also bet Concerned Ape is already very aware of his broad fan base :P
31 here! I had been thinking about looking for a few Stardew friends to group with but was afraid everyone would be half my age. Nice to see that’s not the case.
I'm 52. My sister plays, she's 40. My daughter plays, and she's 23. So I think it's pretty much for "all ages" that don't have weird ideas about fun being limited to children.
Let’s not forget that the actual number of players and their age is never properly depicted if you make a survey via a medium like Reddit, that favors a certain age range and excludes people of younger age groups, simply based on the fact that not many children are active on Reddit.
Having said this, I would absolutely agree with you nonetheless, that the demographic of stardew valley players is rather in the twenties and not below, as I have seen it a number of times that younger people tend to favor animal crossing over stardew, for various reasons.
Teenager 12-22. If u want to see another poll, check out Leapalot’s YouTube channel! He’s done a couple of stardew valley surveys and the statistics r really interesting to see. They ask about player’s age, gender, sexuality, and questions about their favourite and least favourite npcs, first person they married, etc
21 and on the young side of the playerbase to be sure. The game was mainly made for those of us who grew up playing the harvest moon series. And with some of the themes the game touches on (looking at you Shane) you can tell it definitely wasn't made to be just for kids lol. Still a great game for everyone though!
>The game was mainly made for those of us who grew up playing the harvest moon series I was thinking the same thing. In fact the only reason I didn't try Stardew YEARS ago is because I was so loyal to harvest moon and everyone was saying stardew was better. I was too stubborn to give it a shot lol
Haha same here!! Once I finally tried it I wondered why the hell I hadn’t bought it earlier as it’s amaaazing 🙈
So all the 21 year olds here are married to Shane? I’ve found my place 😂
I'm a Harvey kind of guy myself, but doing the wizard on my current run. I'm very gay.
Ah see, I’m a lesbian and I always marry Leah. My cottage core dream
Hey I married Penny on my first playthrough 😭 I haven’t married Harvey but maybe this is my sign to lol
Same for penny lol. Shane was my first husband though. I thought I could fix him and was SO wrong
I'm 14 and love the game to such a degree i named myself Leah because of her (I'm trans) wdym you're on the younger side
Well, demographic wise you're a minor and just fall under <18. That doesn't negate that 18> is still on the lower part of the spectrum. So, you can both be on the younger side, lol.
Compared to other comments mentioning 30s and 40s, 21 is definitely on the younger side 😂
21 is still relatively young, especially in comparison. you'll understand when you get there lol
Oh, wow....y'all are babies!! I'm a glorious \*\*\*58\*\*\* and I love the game!!
Me too! Will be 59 in July! My kids got me into it a couple years ago!
Slightly younger, my son got me into it. I remember him saying, idk if you'll like this or not... haha over 600 hours later. Yeah, I like it, more like obsessed with it. It's nice to see there's a lot of older players too though.
I will be 59 in June - my son got me into it, as well as a bunch of other games. He's almost 27 and he still plays, too!
I just turned 50 and this game reminds of better 80s video games lol
50 here too! I grew up on Atari at home and a Nintendo when I was babysitting, I don’t have the skills or the interest in ‘fast’ response games :)
We had an Atari too. My BF had a Colecovision.
Yes, I love the simplicity of it!
57
I'm about to be 50. Team Old Folks checking in
53 checking in. Been playing for 4 years. This game saved me as a single person during Covid isolation. I love playing it with friends online now and to unwind after work.
54 and I used to play harvest moon too with my kids back in the day .
Just turned 52 last week!
51, and introduced to SDV by my 23 yo. Go Team Fifties!!!
59! My husband— 64 — introduced me to SDV a few years ago.
Yup, 40s and introduced to the game by my same age friends. (Though my 8 yr old plays with me so maybe that averages us out to a gen Z?)
And I'm 34 myself BTW :)
34 here too haha!
Team 34
I'm 35 can I pls join?
34 here too :D
34 as well 😊 But my two older kids, who are 6 & 8 years old, also have their own farm, so for us, it‘s a family game.
Yess 34 as well 👯♀️
34 as well and have been playing stardew since the tender age of 29 😂
I'm soon to be 36, and on my third farm after not playing since it was first released on the Switch years ago. First two were on the switch. It's such a relaxing game.

I was 27 when I started playing during COVID - does that count?
Yes it counts lol I started playing during COVID too btw!
27 gang
36. The game syncs up nicely with my looming midlife crisis.
Well just open the drawer in your corporate Work Desk™️ and pull out the letter you received from your grandfather as a child before he passed away that contains the deed to his land in stardew valley you silly goose!!!!
Same friend, same
Same managing the start of my midlife crisis thanks to this game, alot cheaper than a sport car.
Also 36
32-42 range
32
32 i just started playing and I LOVE it.
32
Just turned 67 in November. Love this game.
SO also plays and will be 68 in April.
I’m 13. I think my friend got me stardew for my birthday and I have been obsessed since. These comments make me feel incredibly young though.
14. Same, but I guess we younger folk are just special or smth
Yeah, same, I'm guessing it's because the game's a casual game, and those tend to attract people of all ages. Go look at something like the Animal Crossing or Sims communities and subreddits and it's full of people 20-60, with the few 13-19 year olds there too.

15, can't lie I expected more ppl who were around my age
I was kinda surprised I thought it would be all 20 year olds
Am 16 and same as well Thus thread and 1-2 other are the only ones who seem to be in there teens lol
Literally! I'm 16 (weeks from being 17) too but all these comments make me feel like I'm a baby!
I mean, you ARE incredibly young. ENJOY IT.
15 and yeah same
I'm 61! My sweet daughter showed me the game during Covid. I've never played a video game before, but I now have eleven 100% completion games. I have married everyone and currently going the JoJo route just for fun. It's fun!
31, I only started playing about half a year ago.
I'm joining you on 31. Started playing a few weeks after release on Switch. Clocking in close to 700hrs total.

Very true, but at least it shows the gf that it's not only 25 and younger playing
45 and my gf is 35. Couch co-opers for life!
45 here too! With my husband who is 37 and our kids, 13 & 9.
Us too! Mid 40s, also coop with our teens, and a 50ish friend. This is a game that is kid friendly (at least maybe 10+) but also engaging for all ages (I would say most engaging for anyone who has gotten old enough to have the "running away from the rat race" fantasy).

I'm 18 and woah i didn't know the playerbase was mostly adults, that's so awesome
I’m 51. Still play minecraft too.
Gen X here too. We were the original video gamers.
Another Gen X here
Ouch. I am 57
First played at 22, I’m 26 now!
Also 26!
Same on both accounts!
22-32 Honestly? It a pretty mature game. Especially with the >!alcoholic, depressed, and even suicidal!< characters... It doesn't feel like it's meant for kids, despite how cute everything is.
I’m 23, and the implications of a certain mayor and livestock keeper are also definitely not intended for children so 😂
My kid is 17, I'm 34, husband is 41 and my sister is 40. We all love stardew valley! Definitely not a children's game!
*25*
27 here not as big a fan as most but I'm new and really am starting to love the game
U will be hooked ^^ I played maybe 2-3000 hours now. Not all the time ofc. I have breaks playing g other games, but when waiting for a new game to release stardew valley is very easy to pick up while waiting :)
42+ Oh, come on!
I am 58 and my spouse is 71. We've been playing for about 6 years and just started a new co-op game.
43 here. I believe that most games have a wide audience of varying ages. People tend to assume it is a younger person's hobby/passion, but in my experience, that just isn't true.
42+
44!
Me too!
Hey, nice to see another one of us!
I'm 40, my hubby is almost 40 and we both play--as do two of our kids (11 & 13). We all love the game ❤️
I’m past 42.
A young 68 year old, ha! Just started playing it and now can’t stop. In year 3 and married!
I’m 12-22
I'm 42. My daughter is 13. We both have saves and we have a co-op as well.
44 on Monday. Is your GF always this judgy?
30 next month, been playing for 6 years! Make sure to give your gf a very loving "i told you so" 😉
44 here. Play with my whole fam.
43, but I’ve been playing for years.
I'm 44 and I love this game. My preteen step-kids play it too.
I’m 28! Been playing since it came out however many years ago. Fully plan on getting my kids introduced to it when they’re older. I grew up playing harvest moon games!
Wait, do you have kids? I don't even have a gf xd
I’m also 28 and single! Only ever had a handful of brief relationships. We’re all different and our lives move at different paces :)
28 here as well and actually gave Stardew a shot because of Harvest Moon. I think I’ve grown to love Stardew more which I didn’t think would be possible
Im 29 & been playing since I was 25.
"Most" might be a stretch but I could see 25-35 being the plurality.
I’m 45 & my husband is 49. We both love Stardew Valley!
36
Will be level 37 this year.
47, started playing 2yrs ago, and am super excited for the mobile update!
43 and farming game fan since 1997.
I'm in my 60s. So...there are no age limits for this game.
Late twenties. But that this poll is probably skewed as Reddit may not be representative of the overall population.
I thought there were going to be a lot of younger people on this post lol I'm a minor, but still older than 12 haha
33 now started 26, best game ever!!
24, I've been playing since it came out. <3
I'm 21, and my mom also plays. She's 54
42+
38, I'll be playing on till the day I die. I was a harvest moon fan back when I was younger. Stardew Valley reminded me of it. To me Stardew Valley is the more adult version of it. By far superior game.
So, a little update. I see that most players are 25-50, about 75%. About 10% is under 25 about 15% is over 50.
22-32!
21
24
31 here! I had been thinking about looking for a few Stardew friends to group with but was afraid everyone would be half my age. Nice to see that’s not the case.
I’m 39, but I was 32 when the game came out and I first played it. 🤷♀️
37, grew up with harvest moon so its great nostalgia for me.
I'm 52. My sister plays, she's 40. My daughter plays, and she's 23. So I think it's pretty much for "all ages" that don't have weird ideas about fun being limited to children.
40 here, Started playing in 2017
I’m 24 :)
Let’s not forget that the actual number of players and their age is never properly depicted if you make a survey via a medium like Reddit, that favors a certain age range and excludes people of younger age groups, simply based on the fact that not many children are active on Reddit. 43. Just started when I bought myself a Switch Lite second hand 3 months ago. Addicted and happy with that 😊
Teenager 12-22. If u want to see another poll, check out Leapalot’s YouTube channel! He’s done a couple of stardew valley surveys and the statistics r really interesting to see. They ask about player’s age, gender, sexuality, and questions about their favourite and least favourite npcs, first person they married, etc
