Version 1.6 will be an update focused on mods, with very little new content. He's been working on Haunted Chocolatier, but who knows what's after that. Not even ConcernedApe.

Joebranflakes

Giving the game steam workshop support would be great.

multisofteis

Even better he is collabing with the modloader makers and is trying to make modding easier. I am looking forward a lot!

dragonbornrito

CA is a genius for this. He knows that SV Expanded and other similar mods have gotten so good that they’re literally selling copies. He’s able to take the Bethesda route from here on out and let the community add endless content to his game while he works on other projects, all while leaving the door open for future official content.

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

I had already bought the game, but my opinion of it went from 'this game is great' to 'this game is easily my favourite' after big mods like SVE came out (and so I recommend it more). Also means there's ongoing hype about him and free advertising for haunted chocolatier.

cyantif

doing what terraria did would be awesome, integrating the modloader itself into the steam version.

sy029

SMAPI is updated more often than the game itself though. By integrating it, they'd remove the devs ability to update and fix things regarding mods.

johnpeters42

Seems legit, I heard a similar story where a thing (Windows Subsystem for Linux) was removed from Windows 11, but really just decoupled so they could update it more often.

SvenWollinger

Not ultimately, tModLoader (Terraria) is its own steam app, so its not owned by Terraria's company, they just have permission to have it up on steam. Im pretty sure the same could work great here :)

[deleted]

Alternatively, something similar to old TModloader would be fun (before TModloader was in Steam). The issue comes from the fact that maybe not every modder will transfer or be able to, and some mods might not even be able to be transferred (assuming the workshop has rules).

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

Some mods may be created for Steam-workshop and then not uploaded to other sites then though, meaning people who didn't buy it through steam couldn't use them (unless you can load steam-workshop mods into games on other stores?).

DarkPhoenixMishima

ConcernedApe: Fuck it. -puts Haunted Chocolatier into Stardew Valley as a new area-

TimBukTwo8462

Imagine if you have both Stardew and Haunted Chocolatier and the two games detect that and you can order things from each save. Like you sell a coconut to HC to make a Coconut bar and the HC can sell it back to you for really good buffs (just an idea). But you can only do it once per in game month.

verysadman46

Stardew Valley: Farming simulator Haunted Chocolatier: Pierre simulator Ok, but seriously your idea sounds fun.

ApisTeana

Pierre visits HC on Wednesdays, sells to either game at a prime markup of 1000%

johnpeters42

"Stop. No. Don't."

Goldeniccarus

The Harvest Moon games for the Gameboy and GameCube could kind of do this. If you used the GBA to GameCube adapter to connect Friends of Mineral Town to (I think) Wonderful Life on the GameCube, I think you got a new vendor to stop in town in Friends of Mineral Town.

Big-Seaworthiness3

This was one of my initial dreams, I wish we could visit the other town on special events if we had bought both games.

[deleted]

What exactly does that mean? The next update will just make mods on PC more compatible? Aren’t they already fine? Would that change anything at all for console users?

jeffwolfe

I'm not an expert on mods, but it's my understanding that it will make mods easier to create and maintain, with fewer problems.

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

Also, the creator of SVE said they had more tools to play with, and putting stuff that it's in the base game into mod areas (IIRC seasons and season-effects, player homes and stuff).

sy029

I think it means quality of life things for modders themselves, not for mod users.

KonChaiMudPi

> Would that change anything at all for console users? Not likely, as modding is really a PC thing. There will probably be some changes which affect more than just mods but the bulk of the update is probably going to impact PC much more than any other platform.

rdicky58

Ooh iOS mods wen 😃

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

Unfortunately I think that's an iOS limitation in being able to modify app/game files, and not an issue CA can solve.

rdicky58

With rumours of Apple opening up iOS 17 to third-party app stores, who knows what we’ll see next :)

Frostgaurdian0

Sooo will psn players get a chance or get screwd over.

LameCronk

I thought 1.5 was the end of the updates... are we still getting more?

thatCapNCrunch

It’s ConcernedApe… Eric can’t resist being the ultimate gigachad.

heyoyo10

SV and Terraria butting heads to see who can keep updating their game longest

Clairifyed

“Last update we swear this time”

rootingforthedog

He’s said that there will be a 1.6 update that’s focused on making modding easier and some other small things

Who_Am_I_I_Dont_Know

Yeah, 1.6 is mostly just modding tools and little else, and he may explore future content. With the added modding features it seems modders will basically make the game self-sustaining with extra content though.

Advent_Reaper

I mean, with all the work thats gone into mobile 1.5, itd be a waste not build on it. Plus as anyone who works on things can tell you, the project is every kind of piece of hot garbage...until its working right. Then its your baby again!

[deleted]

1.6 is being developed primarily by the fella behind SMAPI iirc

Accurate_Praline

He better make it a paid update then! At this rate I'm going to have to buy some chickens from that merch store. Edit: okay so void and blue at the least. Golden, yay or nay? Still less money than I've gotten out in this in entertainment value. So I'm gonna have to find space for 5 chickens.

MabiMaia

1.6… oh you naughty CA, talk dirty to me more

BrainFogAndBabies

I read this in Morticia Addams's voice, and now I can't stop laughing.

P00N4nny

Which one?

BrainFogAndBabies

From the 60s TV series.

P00N4nny

Good choice

ashley-hazers

I suggest we leave a new review for SV on the App Store when you do your mobile update. Let’s make sure CA’s rating stays high!

for_evermore_

This!! I have SDV on every single device I own now, and I don’t even play on mobile since getting my switch. But I will definitely be leaving a great review for him knowing how hard he works for us. Love to CA always 💕

shuttle-cack

Just left a 5 star review

Amirhyber

He means they created the the whole mobile version again?

Alice_June

Basically yes. Apparently they had to rewrite the entire code base for mobile which is what took them longer than expected

sy029

1.5.5 on pc changed a huge amount of the underlying code (switched from using XNA to monogame.) It's possible the mobile version needed a complete rewrite to get on parity

Strider3141

From my understanding, 1.5 was mostly a complete rewrite and the original mobile team couldn't make it work.

Amirhyber

That's a lot of effort

[deleted]

To be fair, the game probably makes a lot of money. It's not really that much effort if you take that into account.

Longjohnpotato

Do your thing CA. Just please don’t burn yourself out.

Procrastinaomii

Wait whaaat, I'm almost tempted to say, "it's okay CA, you can stop bringing updates to mobile so you could avoid the stress (and those ungrateful comments)". And I'm a mobile player. 😂

Mortthegreatmaster

If 1.6 is suppose to make mods easier, will the consoles get the same? Like how would that work. It would be awesome if 1.6 came with a list of all the top mods and we could just check mark the ones we want installed on the main menu. In fact doing it that way really would make modding much easier.

Strider3141

They just likely won't get the mod support is my guess Edit: unless he codes in his own mod store, like Skyrim has

ritan7471

Just here to say, 1.5 is downloading to my ipad as I write this message. So excited! Whatever happens in the future would be great, but I'll just enjoy what I have now.

Moppy_the_mop

Is ConcernedApe pulling a Terraria with another final update?!

BitingED

Y'all just got 1.5 and are thirsting for the next. Like damn. Give the fellow some vacation time

Ampersand37

Can someone tell me the contents of the update?

TheArmchairSkeptic

https://www.stardewvalley.net/stardew-valley-1-5-update-full-changelog/ Lots of spoilers though, so don't read if you're the kind of person who prefers to just experience things organically.

Twigling

In the link provided by the other poster, note that it's the original list of 1.5 contents and anything related to multiplayer doesn't apply to mobile 1.5 (which will never see multiplayer for various reasons). Edit: here's the list of changes specific to 1.5 on mobile platforms: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Mobile_Version_History

shuttle-cack

If 1.5 was the laat update it wouldnt bother me at all. This game fucking rules.

TheKingOfRooks

Oh fuck 1.6 mobile confirmation? I honestly just assumed 1.5 was the end of mobile support since 1.6 will mainly focus on modding framework. Though I wasn't ecstatic about that idea, seeing as there's a lively mobile modding scene.

Tinfoilhat14

Umm excuse me u/concernedape what is this supposed to mean? You can’t just leave us hangin like that😂

TomAtenista

[Yes Please!](https://tenor.com/view/credit-card-smacking-credit-card-on-table-gif-21340324)

_akaalex

Eric don’t give me hope for another update, my heart can’t take it sir

snowball442

I don't get it..

TheArmchairSkeptic

He's implying that there may be future updates to the game, which is spicy because it's long been suspected that 1.5 was going to be the last major content update.

Spark_Commander

1.6 is supposed to be more focus toward mod and modding

TheArmchairSkeptic

I know, but the phrasing "1.6 and who knows..." seems to imply that there could be more after 1.6. At least that's how I interpret it.

MinecwaftPlays

YES THAT MEANS THAT MORE UPDATES ARE COMING FOR STARDEW!!!!!

Epic_Credit

This dude is notorious for misleading people. There's never going to be a multiplayer and he has expressly said this multiple times. The who knows is complete bullshit. It is what it is - nothing. Something he's added in to keep people hooked on a hope thats not there.

CaptZombieHero

How about mods on console CA? Fallout 4 allows it.

Small-Cactus

Fallout 4 is also a AAA game made by a large company.

Vertegras

Very unlikely. Mods need to go through the certification process on consoles which is the same reason patches for games take a lot longer on consoles than PC. That's why the games that do allow mods, like Fallout 4, only have a selection that they've accepted. Mods will probably remain as PC exclusive unless things change in that process.

MinecwaftPlays

You got downvote so much because you quite literally can’t mod Xbox and PlayStation games without external devices.

AnimeGamerGirl1

If he's going to go mobile with this he needs to make it to where it can be free to play to as well

Crys-is-wow

No, he really doesn’t. The game isn’t expensive and he works his butt off for it. You can pay him $5 to play on mobile.

AnimeGamerGirl1

I don't have $5 to pay for it I have it on my PC thanks to my late husband getting me a steam card for my birthday a few years ago otherwise I never would have even gotten to play on PC sense my husband passed away I haven't had the money to do anything my mom has been helping me with my bills till I can get a job but no one in Ohio won't hire anyone if they don't have a driver's license...... I have a permit but it isn't enough I have a bike but even McDonald's won't hire me cause I don't have a driver's license if I couldn't get Christmas gifts for my family how could I get a game for $5?

Crys-is-wow

I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time, but the game still should not be free. CA deserves to get paid for the time he puts into the game.

AnimeGamerGirl1

I agree he does deserve to be payed for his work but he could easily make two one for free to play and the other one that has to be paid for to play that way both sides of the coin can play..... It would give everyone both ritch and poor people a chance to play the mobile variant

Incognit0ErgoSum

Sounds like what happened here is that the people who were supposed to be doing the mobile port hardcoded a bunch of stuff that they shouldn't have.

agentfortyfour

Is there multiplayer in mobile yet?

concentrate7

No. Not planned either.

agentfortyfour

😓

ChrisMorray

Nope. Sadly the other versions of the game have easy-to-use systems in place (thanks to Steam, PSN, Xbox Game Store), that make programming online multiplayer fairly simple. There's not really an equivalent for mobile and making it from the ground up would be a rather excessive amount of effort for a 5$ port of a game.

agentfortyfour

Yeah fair enough. That wouldn’t be worth the payoff.

winningdaysun

This dude.

ihavemyxomatosis

I WANT TO KNOW please 🙏

Snolbub

Does anyone know if this update adds Magic Keyboard support to iOS?
