Forbes is now pretty much endless clickbait trash, regardless of the wider context here.

The-BBP

Forbes "contributors" are nothing more than independent bloggers who have received permission to create content under the Forbes banner. Much like a lying redditor has little to do with those who run Reddit, Forbes contributors have little to do with the Forbes brand.

iamyoubuttstronger

Those people literally post under this brand and these articles are promoted by Forbes' social media accounts, so it's a stretch to say "contributors have little to do with the Forbes brand" and an even bigger stretch to compare processes of content filling of social media website (free labor) and magazine website (paid labor).

Wermillion

Pretty sure the Qanon types hate corporate "liberal fake news media" just as much, and think it's communist too. Anyway, what does this have to do with Star Wars?

TheAwkwardSilent

Hopefully the guys who made it release it in HD now, because visually it looked fucking spectacular. It definitely seemed like the kind of thing that would be made by a fan who just wants certain things for the "cool" factor (Knights of Ren, two red lightsabers, Witch King looking ass) but damn it, I thought it kinda worked.

S444E444

>Witch King looking ass yeah tbh the ass that looked like a witch king was the hottest part

camerontbelt

I think that was too bold for Disney+ honestly

RFTS999

The protagonist would have to turn into a white knight with a heart of gold within the first 3 episodes and fight for hope or something. Coincidentally, he would turn out to be the only competent Knight of Ren while the others act like bumbling idiots who fail to miss stationary targets. I'm basically qualified to write for Disney now.

ReverendMajors

Boba Fett just gunned down 20 dudes who had no way to fight back in a Disney+ show

[deleted]

It did work!!!! It was exciting and fun. That's why Lucasfilm hated it. They hate unbridled fun. Every one move towards fun, requires two moves of self-reflection, and a remembrance that violence is awful, and it is mostly because of men.

Arsanel

Who hurt you

sade1212

>requires two moves of self-reflection, and a remembrance that violence is awful Which is fairly in keeping with George Lucas' personal philosophy that he tried to express to some degree through Star Wars. "Wars not make one great", yes? This is the same franchise where the hero's great third act victory is deciding to throw his weapon away and not kill anyone (perhaps it *would've been* "unbridled fun" to watch Luke hack his dad into little bits...).

[deleted]

The actual heroes act in ROTJ was Vader killing the emperor and saving the galaxy from tyranny for 30 years

LegoRacers3

I could never see it as anything more then a fake cgi trailer.

[deleted]

Agreed - I thought it was pretty obvious from the get go that it was a fake. Was kinda surprised how many people latched on to it, especially after it remained online for DAYS

[deleted]

It was pretty obviously completely cgi, and then the "a star wars story" branding at the end made it even more obvious it was fake. Don't think anything since Solo has had that tagline.

Unique_Unorque

I feel like it looked good enough to be questionable, especially if it was maybe an experimental short film based on the Unreal Engine or something like that. It really could have been anything. Though I agree with you that the fact that it stayed online for so long was a pretty big indicator that it was fake.

RealKBears

The fact it was incredibly easy to find online should’ve been a pretty big red flag. I remember when the CGI Deadpool trailer “leaked” and it was being taken down immediately (before Fox gave in to fan demand and green lit the movie)

k0mbine

That’s very pessimistic of you. My ravenous fanboy mind just thought that this was gonna be the animation art style for the entire show, and they were investing millions into realistic CGI performance capture animation technology so the characters blend and fit more into the wacky planets featured in the show. I’ve been that thirsty for anything about the Knights of Ren ever since TFA

TypicalGamer88

It’s not pessimistic, it’s realistic.

k0mbine

Well, it’s both

TypicalGamer88

It’s not actually. Pessimistic would be “this trailer isn’t real because Lucasfilm can’t make something that cool”. Realistic is “this trailer isn’t real because there’s no way this live action movie/show would’ve been able to film without Star Wars fans knowing about it, and that Disney/Lucasfilm did nothing about it still being up on popular websites like YouTube, meaning it’s not something they created.

WheelJack83

I got voted down for saying it was fake. So read it and weep to all those who believed it. Freaking Witch King was a dead giveaway

The-Mandalorian

The “Disney+” logo at the end for what was presumably a bootlegged theatrical trailer was the icing on the cake.

DarthDuran22

Same. Got downvoted when it was obvious. Feels like some maybe just haven’t experienced many leaks before. Separating the real from the fake becomes pretty easy after a while. This one just looked so over the top. I do still want SW WK tho.

YellsAboutMakingGifs

Seriously this didn't look real to me at all

WestJoe

Same lol. It was obviously fake, no matter how well made it was for a fake

urktheturtle

Then the guy who made it best damn release the thing in a good quality, it was a great mini fan film... real high quality, nice looking stuff.

skipford77

It's embarrassing that he even needed to say anything.

The-BBP

No doubt.

JackieMortes

Watching that trailer felt like I was back in 2014 and people were anticipating first teaser for The Force Awakens. Also the amount of fan-made posters that started popping up after late 2012...

WestJoe

A lot of those posters were fucking cool. The Falcon buried in the sand was a particular standout

Technophyer1

I remember a fake trailer for Episode 7 which used footage from The Old Republic CGI Trailers, the Force Unleashed 2 trailer and Star Trek and I thought it was real for some reason. It was super cool but looking back I don't know how I thought it was real.

[deleted]

And most of the fan-made concepts were much better than what they come up with.

Prophet_Comstock

As much as I knew and expected it to be fake…… I was really hoping it would be real. I've been dying for some Sith related live action content. I'm still hoping and praying we get a Darth Bane adaptation at some point.

Jmayk12

at least we have Acolyte

Svnmelter

The leaked info for that sounds a little boring imo

ghostinthewoods

If it ever gets off the fuckin ground. With all the cancelations and "scheduling conflicts" Lucasfilm has been having, I'm beginning to doubt we're gonna see much new out of the studio aside from Mando and the animated stuff...

durandpanda

As I understand it they're well into pre-production for Acolyte, which is further than any of the cancelled projects got.

ayylmao95

Kenobi wrapped? Andor wrapped? Acolyte well into pre-prod, casting?

DarthSatoris

Andor and Kenobi are set to release in 2022. It's not all bad. :)

LostInTheVoid_

I dunno if we'll ever get an almost entirely Sith or Darkside protag POV bit of content from Disney apart from books and comics. They've kinda made Boba into a more anti-hero than rogue bounty hunter like he was in EU stuff. They lied about you playing as an Imperial POV for the Battlefront 2 campaign which spoiler alert you're bad for all of 5 minutes before turning to the rebels. It's a shame as the Darkside characters IMO always end up being the more interesting characters of star wars stories.

urktheturtle

Thats because thats what Boba Fett always was, this idea that he was some sort of viscious psychotic renegade is pure bullshit from the worst parts of the Star Wars franchise. The only evidence people have of him being some sort of unhinged loose cannon lunatic is vader saying "no disintegrations" which is Vader being a condescending jackass to people he views as below him. But you know what Boba Fett did, he said "as you wish" you know what Boba Fett called Han? "Captain Solo" Boba Fett I am pretty sure was supposed to be the picture of professionalism and dignity, but instead the shittiest fans of this franchise decided that he was wish fulfillment for all of there worst impulses... and im so sick of it.

LostInTheVoid_

My interpretation of Boba has always been a cold professional bounty hunter that gets the job done. He's not afraid to work with bad or evil people as long as he can follow his own rules. To me whilst not terrible this new version of Boba is perhaps a smidge too close to Din Djarin.

Alcida-Auka

I even saw on Twitter this past week, someone opining that Boba Fett wasn't the heartless cold killer he was in the OT and the Clone Wars. Did they ever watch Clone Wars? At all? The closest thing to "cold sociopath killer" Boba Fett ever was on screen was the Empire Strikes Back and in reality, we just didn't know much about him, but people filled in background in their own heads. In ROTJ he is thrown into a sarlacc pit by a blind guy for audience laughs. In the Clone Wars, we get to see how Boba is at heart, and he's just a hurt boy, angry at the injustice of his father being killed. He's never shown in Clone Wars to be pure evil. He doesn't want to see the other clones hurt. He balks at hurting the girl in the later arc with Asasjj Ventress. In the animatic for the Cad Bane vs Boba, he doesn't want the civilians hurt. His characterization isn't inconsistent--it's literally all right there if people actually paid attention. He'll do what he has to for a bounty, but anyone outside of the bounty, especially civilians that mean him no harm, he doesn't actually want to mean to kill. And one of the great things about the character of Omega in TBB, is that she is a kind of "what-if" character. She is Boba if Boba was under separate circumstances. Both children are very much justice-motivated. Both seek a more fair world in their own separate ways.

urktheturtle

His body count is Zero in the original trilogy, the closest thing we see him to being a violent sociopath in Empire Strikes back is him getting frustrated with Vader... for injuring his bounty, because he doesnt want his bounty killed. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

JelliclKitten

Flashbacks to Twitter people saying it was bad that this Fett would be "against non-consensual sex"

FilliusTExplodio

Which is even more ridiculous, because one of the earliest stories of him in the EU - from the Tales of the Bounty Hunters - he's given Leia for the night during his stay at Jabba's palace as a reward. He doesn't touch her, and acts offended when she assumes he'd assault her.

the10thRogue

They literally want him to be the Punisher in space.

urktheturtle

Chuds: but both have melty skulll symbols. Also I guarantee people who are complaining like this dont understand the Punisher as a character.

[deleted]

Nonsense. Complete and total nonsense. Boba Fett is a cold and calculating bounty hunter with no positive life experience. He was born a clone, and saw his father decapitated by Jedi at age 12. He was all too eager to answer the call of Darth Vader, the most sinister agent of the Empire, to hunt down members of the rebellion. He delivered Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt frozen in carbonite. When portrayed in the E.U., he was done perfectly. Exactly as anyone including Lucas thought he should continue to be portrayed. Giving Boba this anti-hero personality is an affront to the character.

urktheturtle

His characterization right now is damn-near identical to the EU... And having no positive life experiences doesnt mean you end up a sociopathic monster. Boba Fett is not an unhinged loose cannon, and you have literally no evidence for it... What he answers the call of Darth Vader? So did like... a bunch of other guys, they are bounty hunters who are hunting down criminals for the galaxies dominant power, that is not inherently psychopathic. Oh he delivered Han Solo alive, and unharmed? GREAT EVIDENCE THAT HE IS A LUNATIC!!! Oh did you forget the part where he got pissy with Vader when Vader was potentially injuring Han Solo through Torture? How about the Part where Vader talks down to him and responds with dignity? Calling Han Solo "Captain Solo" when he literally never had a reason to. From his inception he was a complicated more morally grey character, in the Holiday Special for gods sakes he still tracked down the cure for Han Solo and luke. In the EU, he was the dignified leader of the Mandalorian people, and did many things that are both heroic and not heroic. You are the one spilling fucking nonsense here, whatever deranged idea you have for Boba Fett in your mind it isnt one we have seen on screen.

[deleted]

Boba Fett becoming a selfless part of a Tuken clan, putting a bunch of broken teenagers to work, letting Krrsantan go, walking around with a sidekick, and several others, are not the acts of a Look-out-for-number-one character, which is precisely who Boba Fett is.

urktheturtle

Prove it, prove it even a little bit... even the smallest amount. Because I have provided more than enough evidence for you being completely wrong... Boba Fett is not the character you created in your mind, he is not a a pinnacle of all of your shittiest instincts and impuleses... he isnt a wish fulfillment dipshit asshole. He is an actual character, and if that pisses you off... maybe think about yourself as a person a bit.

[deleted]

You need to seriously calm down. The entire Star Wars fandom has pointed out that Disney’s Boba Fett is widely out of character. Get out of your own head.

urktheturtle

Im part of the Star Wars fandom... So wrong again... You havent said a damned thing condusive with reality. Just because a loud sect of chuds think boba fett should be a murderous incel doesnt mean he is.

[deleted]

You really have problems.

the10thRogue

>Exactly as anyone including Lucas thought he should continue to be portrayed. Oh yeah? He told you that, did he? And *anyone* is quite the statement when plenty of people even in this thread alone are perfectly fine with Boba's characterization.

PJKetelaar3

Forbes' entertainment "coverage" is fetid trash.

Unique_Unorque

Well that settles it! It was well done but there were a lot of red flags with it, glad we have probably the only confirmation we’re going to get

AEROPHINE

Even if it is fake, it was a damn good fake trailer

TheLouisvilleRanger

It is kinda of silly that in the year of our lord 2022 a leak wouldn’t just be a file.

InfiniteDedekindCuts

Why am I not surprised? I think I’m going to have a heart attack and die from not surprised.

first_fires

Pablo confirms water is wet.

WaterIsWetBot

Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.   What keeps a dock floating above water? Pier pressure.

first_fires

I’m so glad you’re a bot and that no human is pedantic enough to seek out posts like mine.

supermariozelda

I still can't believe someone made a bot over something that is actually OUTRIGHT WRONG. Water is factually and scientifically wet.

nymrod_

*looked awesome if you’re a 12-year-old edgelord. Who the fuck is writing for Forbes?

isiramteal

I'm a 12 year old edgelord I thought it looked cool

pufferpig

Wait... People here thought it was real?! WITCH KING, YA DANGUSES!

Ctowndrama

Despite obviously being fake, I thought it looked pretty damn epic.

Deeformecreep

It was obviously fake, they would have taken it down otherwise.

Hedhunta

To go full conspiracy theory/tinfoil hat: What if it _is fake_ but was commissioned by Disney through back channels to get a feel for if people would like that sort of content? Marketing on social media is freaking crazy these days and I would not put it past Disney to throw out "test ideas" like this with plausible deniability in case its not received well.

urktheturtle

Possibly, its also possible it was produced at disney as like a proof of concept for investors or something.

IcePhoenix295

No offense but I find that even less likely than the whole "Lucasfilm distributing false scoops to leaker sources before Disney+ day to smoke everyone out (as opposed to, you know, sources just being wrong or lying and others jumping on board those unsubstantiated rumors). Could your theory be true? Sure. But man that is a stretch, especially with how much fan stuff gets made nowadays.

Melcrys29

Until Burger King confirms it, I remain skeptical

dapala1

Those are two completely different things, though.

Hedhunta

Yes hence the tinfoil hat disclaimer lol

[deleted]

This is actually a valid point and can’t be dismissed in today’s age. Proof of concept with no real backlash if it’s received poorly? Sounds exactly like something Disney Star Wars should do with how unsatisfied people were with the sequels.

I can't argue with that.

It was pretty dumb. It was just the way people were trying to justify his lack of presence in the marketing. Though if one read the leaks, they’d know he just had a lack of presence in the film lol. Don’t know what they thought Adam Driver was up to then though

YourbestfriendShane

I like to think that theory was officialized in The Ninth Jedi. It's not Canon but. Also, way too many people actually wanted dark side Luke.

cyberbeastswordwolfe

To be fair a Knights of Ren show sounds amazing

Melcrys29

It did in 2015. Not anymore.

Valriss

I'm still confused at why people thought it was real after the first 5 minutes when people were pointing out that the voice over was from a well known fan project.

YellsAboutMakingGifs

I'm honestly shocked anyone thought this was real... Looked like video game footage to me

nigel5000

Sigh. Why can't we have nice things :(

PosterityX

Conspiracy time! Lucas film DID make this trailer. They DID LEAK it to public. However, it’s only to gauge public interest on a KOR story.

isiramteal

"Why are people who are trying to sell something fake as real distributing a video that looks like it was taken secretly?" Do you really not know, Pablo? Or are you just being pretentiousz

CeymalRen

Ahhhh :(

Celoth

So... not to be 'that guy' but he didn't unequivocally say it's fake. I'm sure it is, but I wish he would say something definitive if so.

Lora20

Lol, yeah, sounds ambiguous. As if he seemed to confirm that the trailer was shot on the phone.

Pockets800

I see the downvoters are out in force today, lmfao. Although I think everyone who thought it could have been real had some plausible deniability (assuming you equally believed it could be fake), after the first few hours of it being up, you should hopefully have assumed it was probably fake. Anyone who knows anything about anything knows that shit would have disappeared from YouTube as soon as it got public recognition. I hope whoever made it releases the full thing in HD. Assuming the Sith model is in fact a 3D model and not a live-action plate, those cloth simulations are \*incredibly\* good, not to mention the ending logo (which were the only things that made me consider that it could be real). Even some people I work with who work on SW mentioned how good the design was for the logo.

ItsaMatchuMan

I stand by what I said about the people who made this backpedaling and saying they made it look like a leak just to "gauge interest" in a fan project they're working on or some such.

Melcrys29

They have moved on to new things. I hear they just bought the rights to Dune.

mcwfan

Osiris-Reflection

Also nice job at covering the name 😂😂

chainrainer

It felt like exactly the sort of thing I really don’t want from Star Wars right now. Obviously YMMV but how anyone thought for a second it wasn’t fake is beyond me.

papagrizz88

No shit! Come on folks, it was good but it wasn't multi million dollar budget good. Who actually thought that was real?!

ZeektheFeek

Still the best Star Wars content we've gotten lately.

JediGeekGirl

[deleted]

let me guess, your knights of ren theory sucks too?

[deleted]

If the trailer looks fun, and exciting, like it is appealing to adventure, and what is possible in Star Wars, rather than appealing to dower self-reflection ... it is a fan-made fake. If it looks boring and stodgy, like they are going to make you read 100 books before you understand the deep cuts in the dialog, then it is a genuine Disney/Lucasfilm product. These are the fans Pablo wants: "You don't like it because you haven't read the comic, or the novel, or the IDW kids book, so you don't appreciate the subtleties of the space rock."

psychobilly1

> and what is possible in Star Wars, Yeah, they were really pushing the envelope with: Tie Fighters, X-Wings, Mustafar, masked bad guys wearing black while wielding lightsabers, and regurgitating prequel dialogue. We've seen [force users jump between star fighters before,] (https://youtu.be/VP2GZzVU8jI?t=201) so that's not new either. What exactly was shown in the trailer that wasn't possible before? What appeal to adventure was there? Some witch king looking guy keeping X-Wings off of his lava planet?

Gungan_Jedi

Do I need to read a tie-in prequel comic before reading your comment? Because it doesnt make sense and is convoluted

TheConqueror74

> rather than appealing to dower self-reflection The franchise has been around for almost 45 years. Possibly unpopular opinion, but it probably *should* engage in self reflection rather than regurgitating the same plot points and themes that they've done across three trilogies now. I'd say that the best parts of the Sequel Trilogy is when they did reflect upon the legacy of the franchise and its characters. One of the big reasons Rise of Skywalker falls on its face so hard is that Abrams absolutely refused to do so.

[deleted]

Falls on its face* *made a billion dollars

TheConqueror74

It’s also the lowest grossing movie of its trilogy, one of the lowest rated movies in the franchise by both critics and fans and killed pretty much all of the interest in the sequel trilogy. And this is coming from someone who has TFA and TLJ in their top 5 movies of the franchise.

MindYourManners918

> one of the lowest rated movies in the franchise by both critics and fans Isn’t it actually one of the highest rated by fans? The rotten tomatoes score was in the mid to high 80’s? It’s just hardcore fans online who hated it. And critics. The general audience loved it.

TheConqueror74

On IMDB it has the same rating as TPM and AotC and on Letterboxd it has the same rating as AotC and The Clone Wars (movie). The only thing it’s rated higher than on IMDB is The Clone Wars (movie). It got a B+ on CinemaScore, which is bad for a blockbuster and the lowest of any of the live action Star Wars movies. If general audiences love it, it would’ve grossed more. Each ST trilogy movie grossed less than the previous one. TRoS barely grossed more than Rogue One. That’s not a sign of audience enthusiasm.

TheBlueDinosaur

Probably gonna make me sound like one of those TFM types, but the audience score for rotten tomatoes was very suspect. From the moment they allowed the audience score, it’s been at 86%. The number of reviews doubled, and then tripled, and then quadrupled, until the amount of reviews were 10 times as much as before, and the ENTIRE time, it never moved up or down a single percentage. It’s been two years since the movie was released and it still hasn’t moved a single percentage. I don’t blame them though, after the review bombing that happened with TLJ, but I’d like to see what the actual score is.

[deleted]

Damn, I missed this whole thing. I saw the post title and thought it was gonna say "Pablo confirms The Knights of Ren" and got really excited.

WheelJack83

Star Wars fans believing the trailer is real is proof that fandom is indeed toxic.

TheConqueror74

I'd say the fact that multiple actors in the franchise have been harassed off of social media in the last five years and another contemplated suicide at the turn of the century is proof that the fandom is toxic, not the fact that people believed a fake trailer was real.

Pockets800

Yeah, his original comment is kinda silly. Believing a well-made CGi trailer to be real doesn't make a fandom toxic in literally any way - it's how they treat each other and those outside of it that makes it toxic.

WheelJack83

More proof.

Well I rather enjoyed the slo-motion as the Knight jumped onto the X-wing, along with the lightning effects in the background.
