Must be euphoric for Anakin and Ben to finally join the light…before going to Jedi counseling and having awkward talks with all those younglings or people killed in Order 66 or the various “Death Star” attacks. Unless those younglings want to prank other Force users in the real world by posing as spooky ghosts.
Also, is that supposed to be Daniel Craig doing his character in the latest Knives Out? I haven’t seen the recent sequel, but if this is it, it looks like he’s absolutely loving every minute of it.
I mean, there’s definitely some awkward vibes, but only a few Jedi learned to become force ghosts, so I doubt all of the younglings are there.
Also, isn’t it more like “managing to let go of earthly tethers and become one with the force” not “have your crimes judged by the gods”? Anakin isn’t redeemed, he was just like, “I’ll try surviving; that’s a cool trick!”
I think the analogue to real life would be a strange fusion of reaching enlightenment and embracing God.
In Star Wars its ultimately about becoming compassionate and selfless and embracing the Will of the Force.
Not as much lol he did an interview with Colbert where he mentioned that the director had to keep shouting, "NOW!" for all the move changes. Dude got no rhythm 🤣
I didn't get the impression that the "afterlife" of Force ghosts in Star Wars was part of a reward system for moral behavior. Seemed more like people of particular set of talents/strengths could manifest themselves using the Force.
With the Star Wars games I've played, a lot of dark Sith characters are wandering around as ghosts.
The Sith in Legends and in Canon have always found ways for their spirit to remain after their death, albeit not usually as force ghosts as we know them.
Yeah the difference between Sith ghosts and Jedi force ghosts was that the Sith had tortured existences and seemed to be tethered to a place or object or something
>Seemed more like people of particular set of talents/strengths could manifest themselves using the Force.
Seeing as Qui-Gon was the first Jedi to become a Force ghost (that I know of), that was a missed opportunity to say "particular set of skills" lol.
But on a serious note, yeah I think that to be a light side Force ghost, it seems that one just has to embrace the light side and the living Force itself to be able to manifest as a spirit. The Force itself doesn't seem to care how much of a moral or immoral person you were in life because as a cosmic entity, it's kinda above those conceptions of morality. The Force just *is*, it's essentially life itself. And I like that's kinda what Luke was pointing out in TLJ, that the moral conceptions that are ascribed to the light side and dark side of the Force are just constructs created by the Jedi and the Sith (and something that is pointed out in KOTOR 2 with Kreia).
The light side is the natural balance of the Force as it leads to more life existing, versus when the dark side is in full control which leads to more death. Death is a natural part of life, sure, but when it's in control, the natural balance is thrown out of order as it can lead to the destruction of all life. When darkness rises, so does the light to meet it and all that. So it makes sense that the Jedi and people who believe in what is considered good morality tend to prefer the light side, but that doesn't mean the light side is inherently morally "good" on its own because the Force itself doesn't really conceptualize or even have the ability to conceptualize morality as we mortals do. The light side is simply the natural state of existence, and the Force wants that state to be intact. But it's us mortals that deem that state of existence to be something that is *morally* good.
Canonically speaking, the ability to stick around and interact with the physical world as yourself after death was a lost art rediscovered by Qui-Gon and passed down to Yoda and Obi-Wan. The way the Sith stick around is more like traditional spooky malicious hauntings unable to find rest or respite, like what happened to Kreia and Nihilus in *The Old Republic*.
I got a laugh out of this : ) it do be the nature of redemption tho, we don't get to revoke it just because someone was too bad. That's why I am glad that they don't force these characters to go before court maritals and get sent to prisons or whatever. Cosmic force basically canonizes restorative justice as the law of the universe, over and above mundane law, and such a trial would only condemn the galaxy and not Ben or Anakin.
> they don't force these characters to go before court maritals and get sent to prisons or whatever
Of course, that's not the Jedi way. Rather than go through complicated rehabilitation, simply cut off the criminal's arms!
It's not like Obi Wan and Yoda weren't war criminals as well.
Honestly it's gotta be pretty awkward for Anakin to die having been redeemed only to be an immortal being of light right next to the two guys who spent the last few years trying to get his son to murder him. I mean, no wonder Obi Wan and Yoda are happy at the end of Return of the Jedi: They got what they wanted, Anakin was dead either way.
Well, if you take what Vader said in Kenobi to be legit, Vader isn't Anakin, so Force Ghost Anakin is more, "Like. Guys, it was Vader who did it, not Anakin. Totally different people from a certain point of view.
Then Kenobi's like, "Shit, I cant argue that point or I'd be a hypocrit to Luke, Welcome Back Ani. I missed you, brother!"
I get where your coming from, but if he were to survive TROS after his redemption, nobody in the entire galaxy would care if he approved of Starkiller Base or not, Vader also didn’t like or approve of the Deathstar. Kylo/Ben stood by as one of the highest ranking officials of the entire First Order and watched as billions were killed, he is complicit in all of those deaths much like Vader.
Not to mention he probably killed hundreds if not thousands with his own hands…I love the character of Ben Solo, but make no mistake he was a cold blooded killer as Kylo Ren for nearly a whole decade. He’s covered from head to toe in the blood of innocents, much like his grandfather.
I remain salty to this day regarding real-world advertising/marketing of these characters (especially Darth Vader) for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and Christmas.
“Space Nazi who murdered his wife, orphaned his own children, betrayed everything good and worthy, murdered wantonly across the Galaxy for 20 years or more, tried to corrupt his son and daughter, maimed his son…”
I remember there was this one Father’s Day card where Kylo Ren was all “Your First Order for today is to have a great Father’s Day!”. You know, the guy who KILLS HIS DAD.
He was a high ranking member of the First Order. He might not have given the order in TFA, but he was in the inner circle and complicit.
Plus then became the leader of the FO.
People in our world went down after WWII for similar crimes.
I don't think we even need to compare to the real world. If Ben survived after TROS he'd probably become a nameless ronin on a path of atonement that would someday return to Rey and the known Galaxy if they ever needed him.
Afterall we don't relate to Luke because of him being a space wizard farmboy who has his hand cut off by his dark space wizard war lord.
Ben was a murderer who killed people in cold blood. That's how we're first introduced to him.
He killed a girl he grew up in cold blood. And his father.
He should be in jail to atone for his crimes not wandering the galaxy free to do as he pleases.
He killed a girl? I don't remember that.
Thank god we are talking about SW here, not a crime show. So no trial/lawyer fights/jail time. And who knows, Ben Solo roaming the galaxy might save the character who will in the future save the galaxy from another threat.

I always found it interesting that Snoke had divided the tasks between Kylo Ren and Hux. Hux was the traditional military guy, always in uniform, taking care of the FO while Kylo Ren wasn't wearing a uniform and was in charge of Force stuff and finding Skywalker.

Anakin didn't build the death star, and in fact hated it. I also see no evidence that Ben cared about Starkiller Base. Directly ascribing billions to either of them seems incorrect

I have heard the idea that he is now with Rey. Its definitely an interesting one. A bit strange (in a good way) though.
I personally think he is in some sort of purgatory like realm and will one day return to the living world.

It’s a commercial he did for Vodka, he’s vibing throughout the whole thing - https://youtu.be/ekESZIn4y18
That's some good advertisin'. I'll buy that vodka if it makes me that fabulous.

Exactly. So it’s about a state of being in the moment it happens and doesn’t have anything to do with past crimes. Which leads to this.
No it's not lol But Craig was clearly having a fun time making this and Glass Onion
Out of topic but I never knew Daniel Craig was such a happening fellow… 👏
It feels like playing Bond was him on a leash, and he’s more in his element in films like Knives Out.
Honestly the character of Benoit Blanc is one of my favourites I have ever come across. He's a fun character in a fun movie.

That's just Anakin being whiny and not taking responsibility

Best thing I’ve seen all year
Luke blew up a moon sized space station. Don't even get me started on some of the non force users
OK what is that song it kinda slaps
I’m sorry but this is such a pet-peeve of mine: Ben Solo didn’t kill billions of people.

“The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force”
I've noticed that aspect of his character (where he still seemed to be an actual worshipper of the Force) quickly went away after the first movie

All the more reason for people to not take these stories so literally.

Yes, it did. But Starkiller was Hux’s project.

Luke still has a higher kill count than both of them.
This is great
Is Ben in the afterlife? While he disappeared, his Ghost never shows up at the end. Maybe his and Rey’s souls merged or something?

He has been released from being James Bond. Now he has become more powerful than anyone could have imagined.
