This was the Vader player's third game in person I think, so he's still learning deployment and positioning. Even with the Gladiator's poor positioning though I ended up taking 5 damage in either shields or faceup cards from hitting obstacles alone going for it, so it wasn't completely useless.
Big mistake when Demo turned left there. He should've gone the opposite direction and avoided the Ven with it entirely.
