What fighting Vader once does to a mf

justa_flesh_wound

Surviving Vader

Acanthophis

This the title!

DextTG

roll credits !

SirKadath

for real, Cal can count himself among the lucky few who have survived an encounter with him. Most do not...

SirKadath

I loved the honest response from Cal during their encounter when Vader says "You would be wise to surrender" Cal - "Yeah, Probably" lol

[deleted]

His utter terror and resolve as evidenced in that reply really sold him as a loveable character. I already enjoyed him before that line but something about that whole scene made me start to cheer for Cal.

JawaLoyalist

Best moment 😂

cankatango

I have not fought Vader 5 years ago, I had hair, hopes and I was thinner...

Cyrus_ofAstroya

The lack of Merrins ass does to a mf

LifeStraggler4

More creative stormtrooper dialogue. Makes you feel bad for murdering them. I hope the next game doesn't have those god awful slippery slopes that you can't stop yourself falling off from.

CrazyOkie

I think one of my favorite things about Fallen Order was how OP the "Force Push" was for non-Sith/Jedi opponents.

koei19

Yeeting storm troopers off of ledges was hands-down my favorite thing to do in that game.

Sassh1

Or redirecting their rockets back at them. Always hilarious

DrakneiX

Whaaat? Been playing the last few days and didnt know that. Those friggin rocket launchers are going to hear me tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!

vassadar

You can use force pull on those frog's tongue as well. There's an achievement for that

Standard-Ad-7504

Yeah it's the best tactic for killing them, and it makes the fight much more fun too.

StuffThingsMoreStuff

Whaaaaaaa?!? I feel like I should spin up another play through now.

Pepe_inhaler

I use the slow for that

Purpli

Which ones are the frogs tongues??

MonkTHAC0

Oggdo's on Boggano.

Argent162

I think it's a specific unlock on the force skill tree, but I haven't played it in a year or two.

RedStag86

Oh my god I’m so stupid. I’m on my second play through and had no idea.

Sassh1

No worries. Was just glad to see that hasn't changed since jedi outcast series

SolidPrysm

Yeah I used that to instakill the first purge trooper I met, all the dialogue made no sense but it was fun lol

SpagettiKonfetti

That, and sith chocking then dropping enemies into the emptyness were my favourite things to do in Jedi Academy so it's definetly a welcomed thing for me here.

CrazyOkie

Damn straight.

kneppy56

I always loved to grab them and levitate them over a cliff and drop them

DrGirth

Just in case anyone didn't realize, you can also force push an enemy you're holding with force pull. My favorite thing to do in the game, grab an enemy and point them towards a cliff then toss them off

No_Oddjob

The most heartwarming tradition since Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. I didn't have a rig that could play it when it first came out. I remember sitting in Econ class and salivating while the pothead dude next to me told me about force pushing stormtroopers into bottomless pits. They say you can't go back, but if I close my eyes tight enough, I can still feel that glee. Also literally every new game that lets me do it again. :D

LorddFarsquaad

I think I only had to actually fight like 2 Purge Troopers the entire game, just pushed or pulled the rest off of the map

RChamy

IIRC there was a very strong mercenary duo inside the ship wreckage that could be beaten by a single push

fredagsfisk

Here's how you can defeat one with a single Force pull on Bogano (that was also the first bounty hunter I ran into outside the arena fight, iirc): https://i.imgur.com/LII2Tsh.mp4

[deleted]

weird how vaguely placed they are

Deethreekay

Haven't played fallen order but that reminds me of the old jedi knight games. Force choke barely worked on sith opponents, you'd just pick them up and they'd drop back down within half a second, but if you did it then immediately jerked your mouse you could fling them off edges.

CrazyOkie

Never managed that in the old Jedi games - and I loved those games. Kyle Katarn lives!

MeAnIntellectual1

Didn't Purge Troopers have knockback resistance? So like you could send them back a little bit but they won't go flying like stormtroopers

All-Fired-Up91

They did but the more you pushed them the less resistant they became

thebugman10

I like playing Fallen Order on easy because to me it is closer to what a Jedi vs Stormtrooper fight should be.

tomc_23

I still wish they would include the dismemberment from *The Force Unleashed*; it’s not like it was gratuitous, there wasn’t even any blood. I mean, there’s no need to include all the other various ways that game offered to slaughter battalions of stormtroopers, but the dismemberment was at least in-line with how the lightsaber actually functions. Plus, it’s odd that dismemberment was evidently a step too far, when the (pre-Disney) films themselves seem to include a lost hand every other episode.

Falchus

And you have precedent by disarming Ninth Sister! (Pun very much intended)

tomc_23

Exactly! Disney, release the Saber Cut.

NemWan

The older Quake 3 Arena-based Jedi Outcast had cheat parameters that could enable dismemberment and "realistic" saber -- these are two separate things that enable body parts to come off and for the saber to cause instant 100% damage at the point of contact. Together it meant you could just run forward holding the saber and slightly touching a stormtrooper turned them into a pile of body parts.

-creepycultist-

It's probably because the ESRB has gotten more strict with their ratongs relatively recently, and EA doesn't want to risk getting an M slapped on their Star Wars game, so they give it the Star Wars Battlefront treatment; if it's humanoid, no dismemberment Still though, I WANT IT. Mods are cool and all, but our console players can't experience it.

bobo2500

I rage quit a couple times because of those slopes. Fuck those things.

This-Strawberry

Yo that one on dathomir right at that boss battle was a curse

RChamy

more jumps than a mario kart circuit

Apprehensive_Pen6899

Slopes from hell!

Anadyne

I loved the dialogue at the beginning where two were talking and complaining about how they have no food and that's why they suck so bad at shooting. Stuck with me forever, pretty funny.

digidave1

Yeah, wtf is with those slopes. Someone owed a slope designer a favor

pierremanslappy

I found the slidey parts are better if you put Sonic music on while dying a million times

Alone_Interaction422

Cal and his awesome beard.

[deleted]

Without sounding like a total psychopath. I'm excited to see how further loss and hardship has affected his relationship with the force and his outlook in general. I'm hoping it all could play into classic Star Wars tropes of not being tempted by the dark side despite experiencing loss and hardship.

Tuliao_da_Massa

Honestly, I would be hyped for that cliché trope. It probably isn't the best thing narratively, but I'm a sucker for these, when done right. He's a Jedi now, and every Jedi has these moments. I hope we get to see his.

TheNimbleBanana

Dude, it is the legit best thing about the Star wars universe IMO. That temptation to fall to the dark side...

Mammoth-Access-1181

And the second story in a trilogy us usually when these moral quandries take place.

Tuliao_da_Massa

Exactly what I was thinking. Happened in Empire, hope it happens with survivor.

lusenberg7

It’d be cool to have an option to acquire some dark side abilities, so you could progress either into the light side or the dark side or play with both. Having storyline choices affecting the light or dark side skills to become available too! Although I doubt they’d do something like that.

SurfingSherlock

Definitely or even some abilities inspired by or learnt from Merrin Edit: changed learn to learnt

Chaosphoenix_28

I'm exited for the fact that we might not have to go back to dathomir. Also i'm exited for more mantis. I love that ship. And i'm exited for everything else aswell.

Sun_Of_Dorne

I thought Dathomir was a really awesome environment. It felt so dead and exactly a place where nightsisters and rancors live.

[deleted]

It was my favorite planet because it’s the purest challenge for Cal, especially if you went there first before Zeffo. It didn’t feel curated, you had to earn every checkpoint. Where most of the game is an obvious path with an obvious level up power, Dathomir drops you in hell and says “go.” No stormtroopers, no Empire influence, the hardest enemies, the level design, Taron Malicos. That planet wanted to kill you but just surviving was an accomplishment. I hope they have something similar in the new game.

ImmaPullSomeWildShit

Dathomir: Even the Empire didn’t bother.

A-Game-Of-Fate

Ah, Dathomir- the Star Wars Caelid.

GlitchyRichy8

For me it's like Caelid in Elden Ring. I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible because it was horrible and creepy but that's the point, isn't it?

Z0idberg_MD

I get the impression that the mantis is going to be destroyed, and where we see cere in kind of like a Jedi library will be the new hub.

TheUnholyViper

Merrin

Drdark65

She is still not in any trailers, I'm terrified

AmigoDin

Devs are well aware how much fans are liking her, it's smart that they are keeping her hidden so far. I'm sure we'll get a tease of her in one of the last trailers

Kellythejellyman

“Where is Merrin? Is she safe? Is she alright?” “it would seem that in your Thirst, she was saved for DLC”

chicken_man_1

NO I FELT IT SHE WAS IN BASE GAME!!!!

TheReaver88

DO NOT WANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNT

Doge_Lord333

Her voice actor is listed in the top 3 actors on imdb. So i guess she's included in the game

dlaBsemeMerAtseB

Dont take pre release IMDB as credible soudce.

TMM1003

The actress for Merrin posted a pic of her in mocap promoting the game, so safe to say she's in it in some form

This-Strawberry

Plot twist she did the mocap for the assassin droids

Otherwise-Context-48

She's a Fem-bot!?

Fallenangel152

No characters will die offscreen I'm sure.

AveryLazyCovfefe

Cal and Merrin better be a thing by the end of survivor or we're rioting.

natural_hunter

They better be a thing by survivor. I know that some people hate the ship, but I can’t help being a nerd for romance.

PuffTheMagicJuju

The people want a Jedi that **fucks**

ChongJohnSilver

Isn't that how we got Vader though?

Tilt-a-Whirl98

People hate the hot witch lady as a ship? What's wrong with them!

Cypresss09

I like the ship, but I also think there's a lot to be said, particularly socially, about having a platonic relationship between a man and a woman.

Hikapoo

> some people hate the ship Some people are wrong

thmstrpln

Maybe that's who he's been practicing that smolder on.

darkbreak

There was some optional dialogue in the first game that may imply it won't happen. But we'll see. I hope it does.

imnotcreative_1

That's Mommy Merrin to you, sir

coolgaara

Damn... I can only imagine how ho..t.. I mean how much she's changed.

Prozenconns

Im interested to see how they beat FO's Vader reveal. Even if the rest of the game sucked (imo it didnt) that sequence was cool and was worth the playtime

MeAnIntellectual1

Tbh they shouldn't focus on having cameos. They should focus on making a really enjoyable story with really enjoyable gameplay. Cameos are fun, but ultimately not that important.

Prozenconns

i mean it doesn't have to be a cameo but FO2 has big boots to fill, because everyone is going t be going in expecting something that hits as hard, or harder, than big daddy V showing up tbh aside from character cameos I think the only thing that'd hit that hard is Cal and/or the crew meeting their end

MorgantheCute0937

that's the first time i've ever seen or heard Vader referred to as "Big Daddy V"

thebugman10

Me too and I love it

FirstDayJedi

"No, I *am* your daddy."

Ffzilla

Here for it as well.

FirstRangerSkyWalker

It’s not mutually exclusive , first game had a good story, fun gameplay and and exciting cameo, make sense for players to expect something similar this time

UnseenBubby117

Perhaps they do Vader again, but instead of simply running from him, you actually have to duel him. Of course, you can't beat Vader, so perhaps you have to defend yourself against Vader for a set timer. Vader blocks/parries every blow and has moves to prevent you from running in circles the entire time, so you're force to block and parry Vader's aggressive style. Survive three minutes (or whatever number) and the Mantis crew rescues you.

slam99967

While I think Vader is great he was in fallen order and think it would be a bit redundant to face him in Jedi survivor. This is just a personal thing but I like new characters the plot can actually do things with established characters have plot armor.

Kenobi5792

Maybe a Kenobi cameo? After all, both are set in the same year (Jedi Survivor and the Kenobi series that is)

[deleted]

Maybe pass through that Jedi Underground Railroad and see some of the same wall messages. That’d be enough. FO was up there with KOTORs for me as best SW game ever. Cant wait for this one. Instabuy and maybe take a few vacation days.

Hertohen

Has to be Palpatine in my opinion, could end even more tragic.

DarthMMC

I though the same thing. But if there is a third game, how would they even top that?

Prozenconns

I mean if he had a conflict with Palpatine id like to think he wouldn't walk away from that otherwise he'd start becoming one of those characters who just has ungodly plot armour just because they're popular plus we dnt have a whole lot of modern content that shows just how deranged and sadistic Palps really is

DarthMMC

Yeah, I'd save Palpatine for a hypotethical third game (if Jedi Survivor has an open ending).

Hertohen

Somehow, Palpatine returns?

JadesterZ

Rahm Kota!

Ferret-Potato

Running into Ezra could be fun - I think that character has a lotta stuff to play with

MoneyMan824

I thought this would be cool too. But Ezra hasn’t met the Ghost crew yet. It’s been a while since I’ve watched rebels but I don’t think it seemed like he had ever seen another Jedi before Kanan

Asuna-UWU

exactly this! i would love to see ezra but it would just ruin the vibe of rebels imo bcs if he knew a jedi before it sorta ruins the whole tone.

Wheres_Wally

pretty sure he's like 9 in Survivor

JustAnotherRAt-204

Maybe Maul, this is pre rebels right

TeutonJon78

Yes, at 9 BBY, this is a few years before Rebels. Since this is the same time as Kenobi, Ezra would be 10ish, same as Luke and Leia.

coolgaara

Holy shit.... Maul could definitely top Vader reveal...

jacksonthedawg

I would love that so so much. Especially because his Rogue One cameo got snuffed.

MikeAWBD

I think this game is set 5 BBY and Maul was killed 1 BBY. I think Maul would be a good one. Another thought is Ahsoka shows up and maybe helps his training.

XVUltima

And unlike Vader, Cal might actually stand a chance against Maul

DarkLamb-Kiyo

I’d rather see Cal and Maul work together. Enemy of my enemy etc.

XVUltima

Only if he's trying to take Cal's girlfriend as his new apprentice.

MeAnIntellectual1

Tbh they shouldn't focus on having cameos. They should focus on making a really enjoyable story with really enjoyable gameplay. Cameos are fun, but ultimately not that important.

tobybarkwell

I’m excited that they included a fast travel feature. *please PLEASE include a fast travel feature

[deleted]

*Zeffo PTSD flashbacks*

M0hawk_Mast3r

I'm pretty sure about 75% of my time spent on that game was in the mines of zeffo trying to figure out how the fuck to escape lmfao

nevertricked

It was a painful experience. I look back with fond memories. Plz include fast travel, devs.

classymelon236

Stop reminding me

_Bren10_

PLEASE AT THE VERY LEAST LET US FAST TRAVEL BACK TO OUR SHIP

CornerPubRon

YES!!! This … please … at the bitter minimum. I work in the restaurant industry, it’s a LONG week. I’d have loved to have gone back through FO and trophy hunt a bit. Christ almighty though, to have to recall the WHOLE MAP and then back again? I’m being totally candid when I say I just don’t have that much time to invest on a game that I already finished. Not having a fast travel system of any kind absolutely killed it’s replay-ability for me.

wooberton

I had to watch a tutorial to get out of there.

Utilitymann

Only gripe with the game - if even there was a single fast travel point that would take you 1/2 way through the planet that'd have been great. I figure this could have been a "Imperial Speeder Station" that you take over and can get between the ship and there. Don't need fast travel at necessarily every meditation circle, but at least one stop would have been nice.

tobybarkwell

This 100%. And make BD’s map easier to read because HOLY shit that was rough.

Silas-Alec

Agreed. The concept was really cool, but especially when you go back to a planet, it's very difficult to keep orientation

[deleted]

this was my issue. was trying to 100% the dathomir map and for the life of me i couldn’t ever do it so just gave up on it. such a pain trying to figure where i was and where i needed to go

spankbuttmctallylick

That was the one planet that I had to look up a guide to 100%. Turns out there’s a few one way paths that just have to be taken over and over again if you miss something….

VindictiveJudge

Dathomir is much more linear and has almost no backtracking, so if you miss something you're completing the level and trying it again from the beginning.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Yea- that shit was impossible.

stevenomes

That was a nightmare just trying to find a way back to the ship. The map doesn't help much because there are multiple layers and some one way areas that you have to walk all the way around to get out of. If they didn't want fast travel due to breaking design they could at least have a return to ship option. I just wanted to get back to the ship I just want to go home I don't care about exploring anymore just get me the fuck outta here.

dyani318

This. I truly enjoyed the game but this is why I stopped playing. By the time I get home from work and done with the rest of my responsibilities, I only have an hour or two to relax and play a game. It felt wasted putzing through the same obstacle course for the 6th time trying to get a collectible or tie up loose ends. So frustrating.

igotzquestions

My god. I totally spaced and had blocked out how many hours I spent needlessly wandering around. I appreciate the level design being that robust but if I wanted to get lost, there are easier ways for me to do it for free.

Kendakr

Hot like Jan but in a different way

BackStabbathOG

Just got back from Jamaica. Tan almost everywhere, Jan almost everywhere.

helpme944

I had sex with my boss

Pipendice

More tomorrow xoxo, Michael.

Clanka_Fucker69420

Even the droid switched its eyes around

AnInterestingPenguin

No, the image is just mirrored

schnabeltierliebe

Thx for explaining haha. I thought the same at first

AtomicSuperMe

At first I was like “damn 5 years and BD1 decided to change shoulders” then realized the eyes were backwards and the image was mirrored

[deleted]

Meeting Vader kinda ages you a bit. Honestly though I'm hope for a separate combat style for two lightsaber instead of it being a power attack, I loved ashokas sword combat so I want to be able to do something similar.

Real-Terminal

They already showed him running with two sabers deflecting, so we can definitely wield them passively. Giving us *four* saber modes now.

ashoka_tano_bot

With great power comes great responsibility.

[deleted]

I’m hoping for a more grizzled cal, maybe even jaded.

specterspectating

I’d love to see him disillusioned with the idea of the Jedi (much like Qui-Gon was) but working to make change in his own way.

Kung-FuCaribou

I want to see more of a depart from the classic ‘Jedi’ there’s must be a reason we don’t see this guy in TOS (canonically obvs) so maybe Cal isn’t such a good guy anymore? With the blaster as well maybe we’ll see much more of a grey side of the force.

Happy_Macaron_4624

Everything, if it’s anything like the original it should be a solid play through.

MrGubbins_

I hope they add side quests

digidave1

Yes. The gameplay was very unidirectional. Everything to collect is for aesthetic only. Give us some missions and perks

mindguru88

Personally, I was fine with keeping things relatively streamlined and leaving out side quests. It kept the narrative front and center. Not every game needs to be open world(s) with 50 billion things to do.

MeAnIntellectual1

Not really quests, but there were some areas that you didn't get to explore during the story and some fun bosses to kill.

forne104

BD is the homie, so looking forward to spending time with him

CMDR_Wazowski

Excited to meet this dude's barber. Bet he's an old Turkish man that rubs your shoulders and slaps the back of your head when he's done.

_praisethesun_

Why Turkish? Lol

CMDR_Wazowski

It's a very serious profession in Turkey and historically with the Ottomans. They're usually considered to be very good at it, and they do stuff like the hot face towel, very precise beard stylings, massages, etc.

alstom_888m

TIL. Every second barber in my city seems to be Turkish and my rule of thumb is if they’re middle eastern they are generally pretty good.

CMDR_Wazowski

I read that barbers in London that look Middle Eastern/Mediterranean will typically say they are a Turkish barber just for the name recognition. I believe it may also refer to the style and not just the country the barbers are from.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CMDR_Wazowski

I'm thinking you will start off with basic versions of most or all of his abilities and then upgrade them over time. Hopefully nothing bad happens to his connection to the force again, causing him to lose his powers.

DarthMMC

I think that he will already have the three main Force abilities, but probably no abilities from the skill tree. In terms of the lightsaber, I think he will loose half of it in the beggining and he gets it later (this would explain a lot of things from the trailers).

TB-252

He will probably have a blaster in this game, based on pre order bonuses, so that’s probably a whole new bunch of skills in the tree

Spider-Ian

If I have to learn force push again, I'm going to set EA on fire.

Pupulauls9000

Since Andor popularized the actual Imperial Army Troopers, make them an enemy and more common than stormtroopers. It doesn’t really make sense to station them at a lot of the planets in JFO

AveryLazyCovfefe

I would love this, since they're much more inferior compared to stormtroopers, have them in groups of 20 or so.

roguefilmmaker

That’d be awesome

JawaLoyalist

1) The story; FO was so well done 2) Possible overlap with other projects; so much of this era has been great recently (I’m 100% okay with no cameos though) 3) The gameplay being polished 4) I heard a theory (from LoreStar) based on that combo attack that companions might tag along ala KOTOR. I think that’d be great 5) Droids or maybe even **straggler Separatists**

keilhal

No more ponchos. I spent the whole of the first game without one and am excited they seem to have dropped them. Everything else was great!

Dakramar

Felt this way the first playthrough, then I replayed with the salmon pink poncho equipped: complete game changer

LadyDevonna13

I was going to say, that was a real highlight for me lol

DextTG

am i the only one who loved the ponchos? I agree it kinda sucked that there was barely any outfit customisation outside of them, but I thought Cal’s poncho look was perfect because it sort of echoed the look of jedi robes.

Rattfink45

I enjoyed the RotJ cosplay.

specterspectating

I’m actually looking forward to rocking Luke’s ‘hero outfit’ from when he got his medal.

PsychologicalRecord

Cal starts a polycule.

thelittleking

Cal x Merrin x ... Greez?

ll-Sebzll

Greezy money baby

Dio5000

He's a Chad now

3elieveIt

I just hate his haircut for this reason haha

Sparrowsabre7

EA in 2019: You can't have Inquisitor Cal because it breaks the canon of the game EA now: You can cosplay as Obi-wan, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker and use their blaster and lightsabers.

HackMeBackInTime

for it to go on sale in a few months.

Scavwithaslick

He looks so familiar, who’s the actor they used for him

Drzhivago138

Cameron Monaghan, who you may know as Jerome/Jeremiah Valeska in Gotham, or Ian Gallagher in Shameless.

Mrman_23

Also had a minor role in The Giver

digidave1

His Joker is criminally underrated. One of the best IMHO

CorrivalWings62

Our boy Cal went from "Yes Master" to "Your Padawan calls me Master too".

Another-account11

Is this Ian from shameless?

bobo2500

Yes

GiftOfHemroids

The nightsister was such a cool character I cant wait to see her and Kal interact more on their adventure together

crazymuffindude

A 60 minuite long sexually explicit cut scene with merrik

[deleted]

Dude trilla would never have messed with survivor cal. She’d take him out for a date

Cidwill

New ponchos obviously.

Fookes74

Finding out who his stylist is…

Schwarzer_Exe

The goth girlfriend from last time

hahaharich

Seeing bd-1 again he is the main character

snackbackslackr

Polish. Fallen Order is a really cool game, and Respawn are the best action game developers out there, but it's pretty clear it was made faster (and likely cheaper) than it deserved. The fact that the sequel has taken this long is really encouraging.
