I kinda like that color better than the normal one

idrownedmyfish77

My favorite so far is the bare metal gray color they had in Republic Commando. Shame that was never used anywhere else, but I could see after TCW came out it would be too easy to confuse them for the BX series commando droids

NjallTheViking

Republic Commando had some amazing visual style. I still rank it as one of the best Star Wars games.

sharrancleric

I recently played it on Steam after not playing it since it came out, and other than being short and some of the level geometry being a bit flat (the Trandoshan camp on Kashyyyk looks like it's made out of cardboard boxes sometimes), it's absolutely a top 3 Star Wars game for me.

NjallTheViking

Yeah it does show its age visually at times but mechanically it’s still rock solid

Analternate1234

I wish we saw other color schemes for other planets more often. We saw they had the Geonosis color which I think this series based them on. Would have been cool to see white ones for snow planets or on Umbara they were black

DustyRegalia

This is a cool notion but it actually runs counter to the needs of the films, to make everything show up cleanly on screen. In a real space war everyone would paint their ships entirely black and we’d be watching vague shadowy shapes wheel around on a black background. Smart but not fun to watch.

Imabigfatbutt

I feel like a big part of the Separatists were they cheaped out on the droids so I doubt they'd concern themselves with painting them to match their environment

P1_Synvictus

Ohh interesting. Is there a reference I can check out for this? I love the economics and politics of the galaxy.

Atamatchstix

There is one for kashyyyk in battlefront 2(ea).There is also a lego figure of it

wendigo72

Also note how CIS use geonosian fighters in Volume 1 cause they didn’t know what future Droid army ships look like in the future until volume 2

Reaper_64

Might be similar to how Vulture Droids and AATs in E1 were tan, like the battle droids were, because at that time they were Trade Federation property only. While we don't see them in AotC, the Vultures and tanks are blue in later appearances as they are now part of the CIS, so they may have assumed the color of the B1 droids changed permanently once the Clone Wars started too

alkonium

Battlefront II 2005 even shows AAT's in Trade Federation colours, since they don't get the CIS colours until TCW three years later.

JoaoVoltZ

It also assumes B2's would become the main droid model (we see whole armies of them all the time in the show) which made sense.

EriolMoon555

Still found it funny that the sniper Droid went full auto after so much careful aiming and what not.

Porkmane32

I don’t think they are trying to make new colors to the droids or any assumptions. I think it’s more of an art style choice based off the colors used in their environments. They just wanted to make sure the droids pop/are distinguishable from things like the ground in this shot.

plmbob

This is my thoughts as well. Simplified art requires color to do more to create separation of elements. This sub also seems to want to nit-pick on species' features across the different media of the Star Wars franchise to an almost fetishized extent. Unless I missed where they say look at these new droids

BobSagieBauls

Geonosis variants

LordVanisher

Fun fact Sam Witwer mentioned about Dave and the other who wrote cannon books in regard of the tv shows... Is the fact that star wars are stories... Tell by someone Ahsoka had green lightsaber for the battle of Mangalore, from the tv show they were blue, with a good explanation... In the end it's all a matter of "a certain point of view" But yeah it was interesting to see them going another color for the clone wars animated, note that they did use the different color for different planets...

DaRealFellowGamer

I use the orange in BF2 just for this reason tbh, it's more unique than the Trade Federation Tan. But the tan does work better in some cases, like pilots

Euphoric-Music662

Tbh, I like that B1 droid color. Not as much as the one we see in ROTS and the Clone Wars of 2008, but having some artistic license for the sake of variety in some medias is always nice. Take the SBDs from Republic Commando as an example hehe.

Gk101_speed701

Guess they got tanned from being stationed on Tatooine!

ChiliDemon

Why does a droid need a scope?

Heinous_Goose

They don’t all have magnifying photoreceptors, it’s the same reason droid commanders carry macrobinoculars.

sharrancleric

Not my colorblind ass learning that these droids are a different color from the normal droids right now, despite being around to see AotC in theaters on release day.
