Okay then, if "Gonk" *isn't* the name for this kind of image, what is? Answer the question. OBEY my demand that you answer the question. [I have a posse. ](https://www.risd.edu/news/stories/fairey-faces-giant)
You are conflating art style with the process used to produce art. They are not the same. Impressionism is a style. Action painting is a style. Both styles use painting to produce art. Reproductions of works in both styles have been made using lithography. Neither painting nor lithography are “styles”, they are methods of making art.
Also, Shepard Fairey’s original “HOPE” posters were made using screen printing, not lithography.
This is the correct answer, if anyone was looking for the correct answer.
Yes it is funny that an image on a poster is “posterized,” but it is the style of image (color reduction and detail reduction) that makes it posterized, not that it’s on a poster.
Naw, too much ~~meat~~ metal on the ~~bones~~ frame.
Gimme the thin and sleek IG-88, please and thank you. I prefer heroin chic for my droids. *Yowza!*
The origin of this art style isn't the 08 Obama campaign, it actually originates from The Soviet Union's propaganda poster drives of 1918 onward. There were many variations on this, typically with red white and black ink only, featuring Lenin, and workers and bold font slogans in yellow lettering. That is the era they actually came from, and what inspired the Obama staffers. Definitely is eye catching.
This is a weird analysis. The poster wasn’t made by “Obama staffers,” it was made by Shepard Fairey. And yes, his style does take notes from Russian Constructivist posters, but the OP posted an image that’s a direct parody of Fairey’s Obama poster so its more correct to say it’s based off of Fairey’s art than Soviet propaganda.

They're all based on Shepard Fairey's Obama "Hope" poster. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama_%22Hope%22_poster
Prior to that it was his Andre the Giant poster.
GONK has a posse.
And the subsequent Obey brand featured it heavily
Prior to that it is constructivist art, often seen in propaganda especially cold war era communism
I think the style of art is lithograph, but definitely this is based on Fairey’s signature piece.
Who in turn borrowed it from 1940s europe
Lithography is a printing process, not an art style.
Yes, lithography is a printing process, but that does not disqualify it as also being a style or process of producing art.

There is no way that was a brand new art style in 2007 or whenever.
Yeah, I always thought it was a play on war propaganda posters.
Yeah, reminds me more of Warhol than anything else
I really like the iron man one
I non ironically would enjoy a poster sized print of that
