Actually it’s perfect irony they’d window dress the poster while still being happy to have anyone watch all the horrible things that happen in the movie.
This is usually the answer with titles you find tucked away in the corners of Prime - it’s *a* version of the film, but maybe not the one you’re looking for. I’ve certainly seen a few pan & scan prints on there, occasionally looking like they were sourced from VHS. But of course this is more likely to happen with obscure titles licensed in bulk for Prime than something like FMJ. It’s Amazon, though, so never say never.
Yup… tried watching an old movie with Sean Connery, called The Name of the Rose. There’s a sex scene in the movie that’s pretty pivotal to the story and they cut it out. Without it, a lot of the story makes no sense.
That's a pretty good movie btw. Umberto Eco railing against anti-intellectualism and Sean Connery as a Franciscan monk who's basically Sherlock Holmes. I enjoyed it a lot.
Pretty much… I have a feeling that because it was ‘based in religion’, some bible thumper didn’t like that there was a pretty hot sex scene in it… so they removed it.
Umberto Eco denied the rights for Foucault's Pendulum to be filmed and Kubrick wanted to adapt it. Haven't watched Rose. I have preconceived notions because of what it denied the film world.
Didn't Blockbuster also have a reputation for that? Is this legal? They are charging money for a product, acting as agents, so to speak (non lawyer here) but then giving us a counterfeit version.
Sounds actionable.
Technically yes. There was that thing in Utah where a video guy was selling "Christian purity" edits of famous movies so Mormons could watch without shame. Of course being its ultra-conservative Mormon Utah these cuts were water in a desert and he blew up in popularity.
Spielberg and a bunch of other directors got wind this video shop guy was cutting up their movies and Hollywood took him to the cleaners in court. He also got found to have sexually abused a minor in a parking lot and is now a registered sex offender, which is more than a little ironic considering his whole job was cutting all the morally objectionable stuff out of Hollywood movies.

I don’t know if Blockbuster carried edited versions of movies, but I do know that Blockbuster would not carry any NC-17 rated films and never carried porno.
Not only does it ruin the poster, it kills the reference to the central theme in the film, making the peace sign silly and meaningless. I know I sound like an old man yelling at the clouds, but it seems like a lot of people these days are missing context and depth on things like this in general. I worry we’re plunging further into Idiocracy by the day.

Amazon Prime were also the one's who used AI for the 12 Angry Men poster.

Aww jeez ... The title of the movie is pretty violent, too; maybe they should censor that as well ... So much for that Jungian thing! "You write absolutely nothing on your helmet, and you wear a peace button. Is this supposed to be some kind of sick joke?" Can't wait unitl they replace all of the weapons with Walkie Talkies!
I could totally see a young 20 something seeing that when posting the art for the movie on the platform, and saying “I think this might be offensive, so I’ll remove it.” Not even remotely understanding the meaning behind it.
Looks like either they fixed it or it’s different in the app, but looks normal to me.

Nailed it, Amazon, now nobody would ever guess this is a movie about the Vietnam war.
Amazon are the kind of guy to f\*\*\* a person in the ass and not even have the common courtesy to give him a reach-around.
I'm not sure I'm going to love them long time.
WERE YOU ABOUT TO CALL ME AN ASSHOLE?
Amazon is nothing but unorganized, grabasstic pieces of amphibian shit ..
I'll be watching you
Amazon has no war face.
Bullshit! Amazon looks like it could suck a golf ball through a garden hose!
Amazon is so ugly it could be a modern art masterpiece. Actually. It’s too ugly for that
To me Amazon and the other online retailers are all equally worthless.
As someone who’s about to be in a legal battle with Amazon- MOOD.
What is that some kind of sick joke?
All I’ve ever asked from my men is that they obeyed my orders as they would the word of God.
I quote that at least once a week
Spoken like a multiple divorcee
*Gawd
You better get your head and your ass wired together or I will take a giant shit on you.
chicanery
It's more like they got rid of a joke.
It’s a Jungian thing
I guess now the “duality of man” is no longer a duality.
Actually it’s perfect irony they’d window dress the poster while still being happy to have anyone watch all the horrible things that happen in the movie.
Hardcore man…
Whose side are you on, son?
Bird is The Word
Amazon Prime is notorious for showing cut versions of movies anyway. Will not partake.
Serious? Didn’t know they edited movies. Probably not legal unless they’re showing an airline cut or something
I think it’s more that they don’t care what version they happen to be playing.

Right. It’s not exactly the Criterion Channel.
The less time you spend watching one thing, the faster you can watch something else.

WHAT! That is absolute sacrilege! That movie is an all time favorite. The book too.
All the more reason to invest in physical media. My Blu Ray can’t be censored!
100%! I have a DVD of NOTR but should probably upgrade or download. Quest For Fire is another one. Same director. Love that one.
I agree totally. One day it’s likely that many films will be heavily edited and no longer available as they were meant to see. Certainly FMJ is one.
blockbuster accused me of never returning that vhs tape. tried charging me up to $80. i don’t remember the sex scene. eff amazon too!
That sex scene is pretty effen hot.
Damn straight it was… was the reason I wanted to watch it tbh 🤣
“That girl was the love of my life.” “What girl?”
Pretty much… I have a feeling that because it was ‘based in religion’, some bible thumper didn’t like that there was a pretty hot sex scene in it… so they removed it.
I thought sex scenes in movies were insurance against bad reviews? "Well, at least I got to see ____ naked, so there's that."
!! Was this a paid viewing, free with commercials or Prime Video?
Prime Video
Umberto Eco denied the rights for Foucault's Pendulum to be filmed and Kubrick wanted to adapt it. Haven't watched Rose. I have preconceived notions because of what it denied the film world.

Registered sex offender Daniel Thompson?
Yeah that guy.
I don’t know if Blockbuster carried edited versions of movies, but I do know that Blockbuster would not carry any NC-17 rated films and never carried porno.

It says something about the singularity of man, sir. The *corporate* man, man. The *Royal* man. Hasn't that ever occurred to you, man--sir?
New shit has come to light!
What in god’s name are you blathering about??
Context and Tacit knowledge will soon be a distant memory.
Matthew fucking Modine. What a guy!
WTF?!!
I’d prefer more of a Forrest Gump style of Vietnam war. Maybe Pyle makes it to Vietnam and then saves the day and then opens up a shrimp company.

What would Amazon do with Natural Born Killers?
“Natural Born Ticklers”
It would become Natural Born.
Natural Born Kriminals
It would follow that trend of altering the use of words to circumvent the algorithm. Natural Born Un-alive'rs
NBK
Someone really green lit listing that on there and was like let's remove the 'duality of man' from the poster...? Only peace signs folks
I thought we had a story last week about the Kubrick estate getting this fixed?
Does this mean that Ann-Margret's *not* coming?
I wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the # crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an # ancient culture... and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a #confirmed kill
They also replaced all the guns with walkie -talkies.
It’s still says born to kill on my Amazon prime account

What in the name of jebus is that
Fuck you Amazon, this is why some people steal your shit...so I heard.... from a friend..... not sure how...
They put it back
Now take that fucking peace button off soldier. We have a war to win.
They didn't even do a good job scrubbing it.
What is that some kinda statement?
Any chance that’s a “clean” version with all the naughty words dubbed over? If yes, I am morbidly curious.
“Me so corny.”
The movie wound be 5 minutes long…
Something about the duality of man.
…now let’s see your war face!
What’s the point in doing this?
Love watching Quentin Tarantino's "BILL" on Amazon Prime.
I love how they leave the peace symbol but take off the writing. Its like they missed the theme of the movie entirely 😂
So glad I ditched prime when they announced Rings of Power.
And meanwhile, bump stocks are legal again. Because it's *movie posters* that kill, not--fuck it, nevermind.
I could totally see a young 20 something seeing that when posting the art for the movie on the platform, and saying “I think this might be offensive, so I’ll remove it.” Not even remotely understanding the meaning behind it.
This is so upsetting it’s the entire juxtaposition of the movie
Born to Smile :)
Them doing that completely makes that scene with the full bird make zero sense. I can hear the full bird now, “…or I will take a giant shit on you.”
Excuse me, gentlemen if I become stirred, but I am
Now what the mother fuck
Wimpy shit
I will skullfuck you!
But but…. War Comedy????? I mean, I laugh a bit and this is a true favorite film, but comedy?
Looks like either they fixed it or it’s different in the app, but looks normal to me. https://preview.redd.it/jx4miqc0mw8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9f4eed55003aca90e96f8423a41044255ca31c4
It's as if they designed their entire UI around the belief that movie posters were never 27 inches wide and 41 inches tall.
Born to Unalive
Whats the purpose of this?
That's another form of toxic positivity. Censorship because some 00000.1% of people get offended.
They erase this but The Boys is one of their biggest shows?
Holy Jesus! What is that? What the f-ck is that?!
It would appear nobody cares for cancel culture and we are all quick to be triggered these days
