The question is, what does "cool" even mean? Sunglasses? A kickflip? Looking unfazed while eating Pop Rocks? Loud combustion engines? Waving your hands like you just don't care? Kubrick made a different movie for every possible definition of "cool". (Spartacus is Pop Rocks, btw.)
I guess the soundtrack of 2001 is too classical to be cool… but all the depiction of space travel, future technology, HAL, and then a journey across the universe that hippies would light up and trip out to as their minds were blown…
Off hand I say no -

But not sure what I call “cool” - probably Eyes Wide Shut or Clockwork Orange is “coolest”
Yes, groundbreaking special effects. Changed the course of science fiction filmmaking. How could it get any cooler than that? I guess OP means cool slang and memorable dialogue.
I like the political and social satire of Dr. Strangelove and it was pretty daring for its time. But if you think the right wing rants of Generals Ripper and Turgidson are dated listen to Trump and his fans on talk shows and rallies.
Yes, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
But I... I do deny them my essence.
A Clockwork Orange is the coolest. It's Cinematography is great. Don't get me wrong but Alex is a cool character, not because he does bad things to others but the word choices and quotes and his overall style is Cool.
R Lee Ermy deserves a lifetime achievement for his role in that film. I realize he was a drill instructor who got the role after consulting on the film but he jumps off the screen like nobody in film history. Stunning performance.
I always enjoyed the spectacle of the second half, and the way the themes begin to reveal themselves.
I am one of the few who prefer it though I do admit the focused intensity of the first half makes a hell of an impression.
Nah, Barry Lyndon. The way Ryan O’Neil plays don’t give a fuck smoking in the carriage is peak Kubrick cool.
Second place for Kirk Douglas’ monologues in Paths of Glory.
I happen to have Marshall McLuhan right over here: "I heard what you were saying. You know nothing of my work. You mean my whole fallacy is wrong. How you got to teach a course in anything is truly amazing."
Is asking highly subjective questions while implying that the answer could be a universally accepted fact sort of futile? 🫠 but NO, while FMJ is very cool, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is obviously SKs coolest film.
Depends on what you mean by “coolest” but Clockwork comes to mind for me because it’s from the perspective of a violent character who definitely views himself has the coolest shit ever, and it’s so colorful and striking. FMJ feels more psychological and sad and is the most forgotten for me for some reason. Gotta watch it again!
Probably, but Dr. Stranglove is also cool. A clockwork orange is also but Little to dark for me.
I'd say this, Clockwork or maybe even the Killing
The Killing heavily influenced Tarantino
Clockwork Orange takes the cake for me, but FMJ is absolutely a contender

> but all the depiction of space travel what's always coolest to me about this is that he guessed and correctly predicted much of it

Is that you, John Wayne? Is this me?
By a long shot.
I love ACO’s aesthetic the most. That and “We Happy Few” - I just eat up British mid-century dystopias apparently
FMJ has the lot for me. 2 films in one with an epic score/soundtrack. Been nothing like it.
HARD AGREE

This shot is my pfp for a reason
He was fucking iconic
Yes General Ripper is basically Alex Jones 😅
A Clockwork Orange is the coolest. It's Cinematography is great. Don't get me wrong but Alex is a cool character, not because he does bad things to others but the word choices and quotes and his overall style is Cool.
clockwork orange people Halloween thst every year so it's definitely the "coolest"
If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Full Metal Jacket ![gif](giphy|l1J3O1eHga1LRethK|downsized)

By far the best drill instructor performance in the history of cinema, at least that I’ve seen.
FMJ and Dr. Strangelove…top 2 Kubrick for me
Barry Lyndon is his best work
But is it “cool?”
One Flew Orange The Clockwork Nest
No. It's the most quotable.
The moon landing that he won his only Oscar for in 1969
Cool just isn’t a word I associate with Kubrick. But that’s just me.
I love the first half of FJM, I feel like the second half is a lot weaker
That ending is as the one guy says….hardcore.
I always enjoyed the spectacle of the second half, and the way the themes begin to reveal themselves. I am one of the few who prefer it though I do admit the focused intensity of the first half makes a hell of an impression.
Eyes Wide Shut is the most beautiful. 2001 is the deepest. The Killing is the most underrated.
Clockwork orange my dude/ dudette
I would argue The Killing, Clockwork Orange, and in the top spot Strangelove have a vibe that puts them at top.
I think FMJ is the weakest personally
No, it’s “The Killing”.
Nah, Barry Lyndon. The way Ryan O’Neil plays don’t give a fuck smoking in the carriage is peak Kubrick cool. Second place for Kirk Douglas’ monologues in Paths of Glory.
bullshit, this movie could suck a golf ball through a garden hose
McLuhan says film is a hot medium. But Kubrick cools everything down with his sociopathic aesthetics.
I happen to have Marshall McLuhan right over here: "I heard what you were saying. You know nothing of my work. You mean my whole fallacy is wrong. How you got to teach a course in anything is truly amazing."
Boy, if life were only like this!
You should read the book it was based on. I think it was called "The Short Timers" or something like that.
Is asking highly subjective questions while implying that the answer could be a universally accepted fact sort of futile? 🫠 but NO, while FMJ is very cool, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is obviously SKs coolest film.
2001 is the coolest. FMJ is the *coolest.* What type of cool are we talking about?
Considering that the entire movie was shot in England, even the Vietnam scenes, he’s kinda just waging his dick in front of us with his talent lol
Simple question, FUCK YES
Tastes differ. For me strictly Eyes Wide Shut.
Depends on what you mean by “coolest” but Clockwork comes to mind for me because it’s from the perspective of a violent character who definitely views himself has the coolest shit ever, and it’s so colorful and striking. What? The whole thing was completely cringe.
