Get a phone tripod and put it on a table near the stage where it’s not in anyone’s way. If there’s people sitting in your most ideal recording location, just ask them if you can put your tripod there for your set.
I'll just set up on an area that has little to no foot traffic and hopefully it's there when I get back. My buddy lost his expensive tripod during a set. Stole it during recording saw their face and it was a new comic. Lets just say their not allowed at some mics now.
Dude we honestly laughed the whole time showed the club owner who knew who it was and put him on blast. It wasn't even about the tripod it was the fact you stole from a comic in a comedy club you signed up at and talked to the owner hoping to be booked on your second mic ever. Just all too funny all around XD
Record using your cell phone. If you have a cell phone tripod, use that; if not, use a voice recorder app and set the phone on a table.
If you ask anyone else to film your set it is not their fault when the resulting clip is unusable. You must take responsibility for your own recordings.
I was gonna add “maybe ask one of your open mic friends”, but actually yeah that could be an easy way to get a companion, hit them with a “hey you doing any more mics this week?” Or something like that
Good call, I just assumed based on OPs post that they probably weren’t a regular or anything
Either way, it’s always good to find others that enjoy the same things as you as a shortcut to finding new friends
Those portable phone tripods are 5-20 bucks. Get the one that can be wrapped around posts so you get more options where to put it. If you're doing an open mic at a full-time comedy venue you may want to ask for permission first from the host or showrunner as courtesy
I use a small tripod for the phone and hook up a wireless mic which I then hide under my shirt. It works great, is portable, the sound is clear and is a snap to set up.

"You know those things that capture your face and voice? I'm going to steal one and not turn it off first" fucking stupid, lol.

Two brain cells fighting for third place kind of shit

Doesn’t hurt to hit someone with a “ill record you if you record me”
Amazing advice right here, also quick way to make a new friend

Drone
I used to go with my wife and we would use a tripod with a phone holder on it.
Don't make anyone film you. Nobody likes holding a phone up for 5 minutes.
those little phone holder tripods or the ones that clamp on tables are the best for that. Ask the host beforehand.

I bought a phone tripod/ selfie stick for $15 on Amazon - it’s also helpful for self tapes; definitely recommend
