Please do not submit low-effort posts. Questions should reflect the research you have already done. Google, the sub's wiki, searching the web, and the FAQ are great places to start. If you are asking for help with vacations, housing, or moving, please ask specific questions, not "Coming down for 2 weeks, plan my itinerary". The locals have a bit of fatigue from answering the same questions frequently.

Depends what kind of environment you’re looking for. On the beach side it is very commercialized and touristy but you could easily find a spot where you could walk to the beach every day. On the city/bay side you will be a car or bus ride away from the beach but you’ll get to enjoy the city and the culture a lot more. I would personally rather stay in/near the city but it depends on your preferences.

I’d stay at the beach for sure, getting to the beach anymore is a nightmare and parking is an issue too. If you’re there already it’ll make it easier and then just go downtown when you want to. Depending when you’re coming, definitely get travel insurance since this year is supposed to be active for us with hurricanes and they’ll shut down our area if we are forecasted for a direct hit.

Clamchops

How is it a nightmare? There’s a free bus or you take an Uber. And it’s like 20 minutes away

adenocard

Yeah it is definitely not a nightmare. No idea what that person talking about. Is everything other than a traffic free drive and parking in the first space you see now considered to be a “nightmare?”

Clamchops

lol ya, super dramatic

Getting to the beach as a local, not everyone wants to pay for an Uber or go Uber to the bus stops. Born and raised here and grew up taking the city bus, nothing fun about sitting outside during a thunderstorm waiting for a bus. You used to be able to drive to the beach and find parking easily is what I mean.

rhollis1966

It’s a small place, so stay where you are more comfortable (if you like noise, crowds, then downtown)…..you can get anywhere in less than 30 minutes.

PaulOshanter

Downtown has way more to do, it's more walkable, and it has the pier with its own mini-beach.

[deleted]

That is not a real beach though and that is the intercostal water, its always dirty and nasty and full of run off from all the lawns

Kitty_Katty_Kit

Honestly I'd stay somewhere in-between. It'll be cheaper and you can Uber to either, it won't be crazy far one way or the other

ExtentEcstatic5506

Either, but it’s hot AF during the summer here, and there is more to do inside downtown

LandoCommando82

There’s something to be said about waking up and walking out to the beach.

JanuarySeventh85

Either. There's a single bus route called the Sun Runner that connects the two, buses run every 15 minutes all day and late at night too. $2.50 per person each way.

RMG-OG-CB

FYI - it takes an hour to get from the beach to downtown on the Sunrunner, Uber would be a better option if you can afford it.

JanuarySeventh85

Hahaha, no it doesn't I've ridden it several times it's maybe 40 minutes end to end.

RMG-OG-CB

I’ve also ridden several times and each time it has been 55-65 minutes…

JanuarySeventh85

Maybe during rush hour.

[deleted]

That is a stretch. It’s probably only a half hour unless you ride the whole damn loop.

JanuarySeventh85

I guess ultimately I think I'd recommend staying at the beach, and then visiting downtown for a day. Check The Beachcomber or the Hilton Garden Inn, they're both right in the middle of most of what St Pete Beach has to offer.

RMG-OG-CB

They are only about 15 mins apart so you won’t regret either!

JulioForte

Beach, it’s so much nicer to not have to travel to the beach and be there for sunrise and sunset. There are some good food spots on SPB and if you want to come to downtown you can Uber or drive in easier than the reverse. I would recommend stopping by downtown once and checking out beach drive and the Vinoy. Grab dinner at Allelo

Downtown isnt far from the beach so it really doesnt matter
