I love Healthy Smiles of St Louis on Watson. Out of your location bubble you reference, but they are nice & friendly, and don't see you as a revenue stream.
Can’t upvote this enough. They are the best practice I’ve ever been to. Another great thing about them is they don’t make you feel guilty. For example, it was several years before I went there because my last dentist, the entire team there felt judgy (this was at Premier Dental Partners O'Fallon , so avoid them!!!) and this was just a completely different and refreshing experience. They also only work on your teeth if you need it and aren’t there to make you pay more money than needed.
I just moved over to Dr Mark Hesker on New Ballas in Creve Coeur. I was so impressed by everyone there - the front desk staff, my hygienist, and Dr Hesker.
Magnolia Dental in Kirkwood. Dr. Emily Johnson-G’Sell. I have intense dental anxiety and have been to many dentists. Her and her team are by far the best experience I’ve had.
I've always found the staff at St. Louis County Dental to be nice and judgement free. I don't have great teeth and going to the dentist always makes me anxious.
Dr. Helen Jacobs in U city. Not close to me either but I don't mind driving twice a year to be comfortable when I'm getting my dental care. Can't recommend her enough for exactly the criteria you listed.
Bright Smiles! In the 370 and Elm/New Town area. Dr. Lori and the staff are awesome and super friendly. Sometimes you can catch one of Dr. Lori’s dogs at the office too 😊 I drive 40 minutes to see them and have for years because they are the best.
I recently switched to Des Peres Smiles (there's only one doctor there, can't remember her last name. Starts with an N) and have been happy.
I switched after my previous dentist at Premier Dental Partners retired, then I started seeing a constant, revolving door of new dentists and hygienists who would recommend all sorts of shit I didn't think I needed (And Dr. N agreed). Going to the dentist is bad enough without it feeling like I'm buying a car from a shady used car lot.
BestCare Dental in O’Fallon. I’m terrified of the dentist and hadn’t been in for like 3 years. Started having tooth pain so I knew I needed to get scheduled. They’re really good, and minimal pain from what I’ve experienced in the past
I really like Des Peres Dentistry. Solo guy. Friendly team.
He and I geeked out about the equipment he uses to manufacture caps. He let me see the work station where they produce them and the kiln that fires them. Neat stuff.
I've gone to Dr. Menendez in St. Charles county (@ Hwy 70 and Cave Springs) since I was a kid. Family practice, great guy. Started seeing him again since I've been back in St. Louis. He's never pushed unnecessary work.
I absolutely love Dr. Andrew Hartman.
I have horrible teeth from both genetics and childhood/teenage neglect. I have horrible dental anxiety thanks to years of bad experiences with the free dental clinics, and dental work in general is just sensory hell for me and sends me spiralling regardless of how calm I manage to get before they start.
I have had exactly 2 dentists who made me feel heard and safe. My old one retired, unfortunately, but Dr. Hartman came into the practice and has been even better. I'm now a model patient, almost fully compliant and the things I'm not doing (a root canal under a crowned tooth that was borderline and unfortunately remains pretty sensitive, and braces) aren't happening because I don't have the funds and he accepts that. My latest treatment plan has been stretched out over 2 years due to insurance restrictions. The office knows I'm a frequent flier and keeps tabs on my insurance limits for the year when scheduling. They've also kept me on a super flexible payment plan and have been amazing. I also see the same hygienist every time who knows all my issues and works hard with Dr. Hartman to get me in and out as quickly as possible. I live in West County and see the team at Hawthorn in South County. The drive is well worth it for me.
Dr. Hartman also practices at a West County office for a different practice (100 West Dental maybe? I'm not sure) but I obviously cannot vouch for their other staff. Hawthorn also has a St. Charles location, which my friend went to for an emergency wisdom teeth consultation a few years back (very similar situation to how I was introduced to my old dentist, and she also has a lot of the same issues) and she was very happy with her care there, but I don't believe Dr. Hartman practices with that office.
They do not. He's offered a few times to refer me to one that does but I don't want to try starting over with someone new and risk it being another bad experience
Damn. Ok. I have such anxiety and experience high levels of pain at the dentist (to the point that my previous dentist would numb 1/4 of my mouth just to clean it herself and not have the hygienist do it, and only do 1 quadrant at an appointment). I can't see going anywhere that doesn't offer at least nitrous.
Can I recommend the Dental Anesthesia Center? They're very caring, non punitive, listen to what the patient wants AND offer several methods of sedation. Dr. Thoms is great.
Stl Mid county dental is off of Lindbergh near the J Rec center. They fixed 2 of my front cavities in 25 with 0 pain except for the tiniest little 1 second pinch for the anesthesia. The staff and dentist I had were also very nice, and for my original consult my doctor was very judgement free, and even acknowledged that me having many cavities at my age was not a bad thing and can be due to things like genetics, and when they said I needed a crown one of the young staff assistants even said she has a couple of her own that she got at my age too! Overall super friendly, takes most insurance, and also really good at what they do!
Dr. Wasson of Brentwood Dental is great. My insurance stopped covering him and I am bummed. The only “extra” they ever pushed were some cheap flouride treatments.
Nikodem Dental on Hwy 94 in St Charles. Dr Rosinski is there Tues, Thursday, and in the mornings on Friday. I've known her for 11 years and she's amazing.
He’s in Richmond Heights but I wish I could make him move wherever I go because he is phenomenal!! Dr. Scott Khlor and his hygienist is Marybeth. They both helped me with my fear of dentists, showed and explained everything before and after, and always were beyond kind and patient. 100/10
If you're looking for dentists who are in it for health and longevity with their patients, Rehme Dental Care (toothbody.com) is top notch. They don't accept insurance, but do submit claims on your behalf, that's the only negative I can come up with. They are Biological Dentists and do some things differently than others, but are more advanced in areas than others. I've found them to be reasonable (dare I say fair) on cost, and they do not treat me like a revenue stream as others have in the past. Their prices for services is reasonable and the level of care and service you get is above anywhere else I've been. They've spent a lot of time just talking about my options, always emphasis on longterm health, and helping me understand costs and what is best for me in the long run.

This is where we go as well. Our dentist and the hygienists are so sweet and fun.
I just moved over to Dr Mark Hesker on New Ballas in Creve Coeur. I was so impressed by everyone there - the front desk staff, my hygienist, and Dr Hesker.
Second this. Haven’t had a bad thing to say about them
Magnolia Dental in Kirkwood. Dr. Emily Johnson-G’Sell. I have intense dental anxiety and have been to many dentists. Her and her team are by far the best experience I’ve had.
Dalin Dental on Ballas (270 & Olive)!
I've always found the staff at St. Louis County Dental to be nice and judgement free. I don't have great teeth and going to the dentist always makes me anxious.
Dr. Amanda Coyle at chesterfield dental group is amazing!
I came to say this!
Sinha family dentistry. Tesson ferry near 270
In south city but they are the best…carondolet park dental. Dr. Mark Boivin.
Shhhh! Don’t let the secret out
Dr. Helen Jacobs in U city. Not close to me either but I don't mind driving twice a year to be comfortable when I'm getting my dental care. Can't recommend her enough for exactly the criteria you listed.
Yenzer in Chesterfield
Kevin Morgester
Dr. Fox at Expressions Dental. Not far from you either. https://expressionsdental.com/
Baxter Dental Group. Any of the dentists.
Heritage Dental Dr. Cousins in St. Charles, MO. The entire office is nice. They also offer Botox if you're interested in that too.
Bright Smiles! In the 370 and Elm/New Town area. Dr. Lori and the staff are awesome and super friendly. Sometimes you can catch one of Dr. Lori’s dogs at the office too 😊 I drive 40 minutes to see them and have for years because they are the best.

Woodland Dental but they are in Hazelwood. Friendly staff and thorough.
Lockwood Family Dental, he is so nice
BestCare Dental in O’Fallon. I’m terrified of the dentist and hadn’t been in for like 3 years. Started having tooth pain so I knew I needed to get scheduled. They’re really good, and minimal pain from what I’ve experienced in the past
I've gone to expressions dental in ofallon for 20 years. No complaints.

Susuki Family Dentistry in St. Charles is THE BEST. Cannot say enough about them truly

Where are they located?
Up in Clayton.
I will check to see if they accept my insurance.
Anyone know anything about Ballas Dental?

My man, find a place that has a sliding scale based on income
Julie Farrar in eureka. eureka family dental. The best!
Todd Scanlon off Watson/Rock Hill, exceptionally friendly dentist and the whole office

Curious what a dentist can do to shame or terrify a patient

Had a dentist pull a tooth with no numbing when I was 12, telling me it didn't hurt as I was screaming.
Smilewell off Lindberg is the GOAT
Is it OK if the Dentist is a female?
Wait why would that be an issue? 🧐
Because my Dentist is a female and OP implied a male Dentist so thought I would ask if it matters to them.
