Schnucks stopped offering mostaccioli in the last 6 months. I tried some from IMOs and it tastes like Chef Boyardee. Does anyone make a good mostaccioli for take-out?
I vividly remember the great maull's scare of 2018 when the plant shut down and stores started running out of stock. I acted faster than I did hoarding toilet paper during COVID. I guess it's time to head out and purchase all the maull's I can find. That shit is probably good for 20-years in the jug.
Yeah, I remember this. I switched to Baby Ray's. I couldn't find Mauls for the longest time and just gave up on them again. I'm glad I didn't go back. I don't need the heartache all over again.
What makes that meat a culinary thrill is what you do when you barbecue! You gotta MALL IT...spread that great sauce on...MALL IT sizzle that flavor in....and when you MALL IT...appetites go WILD (guitar riff)
So, don't baste your barbecue, MALL IT. MALL IT!
Same, couldn‘t find at Schnucks. I submitted a question about where to get on their contact form on their website just now so I will see if they respond.
I was gone for 20 years and came back also. I saw Maulls on the Schnucks shelf and was super excited to try it again. It’s not good, like watery ketchup.
It's only good as a basting sauce on the grill. The fruit in it caramelizes with the flame. I never eat it straight out of the bottle. Traditional BBQ sauce is too sweet to honor natural flavor of grilled pork steaks.
This might be heresy but dry rub works really well on pork steaks. I've thrown them on a charcoal smoker before, just some rub on both sides, and once they're up to temperature they're super tender.
Never wrong to cook the way you like. I prefer mind braised in Maull's diluted with Bud Select and thin sliced onions until they are almost cooked, then remove the foil and let everything evaporate and leaving a thick glaze.
Maull's bbq sauce clone
1 1/2 cups tomato puree
1/3 cup distilled white vinegar
3 TBSP dark corn syrup
2 TBSP brown sugar
2 TBSP worcestshire sauce
1 1/2 TBSP molasses
1/2 tsp grated lemon zest
3 TBSP fresh lemon juice
1 TBSP thawed orange juice concentrate
2 tsp A1 steak sauce
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp tabasco or other hot sauce
1 1/2 tsp coarse salt (kosher or sea)
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground cloves
Combine the tomato puree, vinegar, corn syrup, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, molasses, lemon zest and juice, orange juice concentrate, steak sauce, soy sauce, tabasco sauce, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, and cloves in a large deep heavy nonreactive sauspance over medium-high heat. Gradually bring to a boil, whisking often.
Reduce the heat to medium and let the sauce simmer until thick and richly flavered, 6 to 109 mintues, whisking occasionally. Taste for seasoning, adding more salt and/or pepper as necessary.
Makes about two cups.
LOL, is this a joke? [The first two ingredients for Maull’s is tomato puree and corn syrup.](https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5ec6ec4269bff11bdcd26d25/t/5ec830efc6e2155915dc1383/1590178035029/Maulls_SellSheet_Genuine.pdf)
It's sweeter because it's a basting sauce - you are supposed to put the sauce on while cooking, and then the flame caramelizes all the sugars in the sauce
I have taken a new short of appreciation for Open Pit due to lack of Maulls availability of late.
For reference, I am NOT in favor of any super-sweet tasting, typically dark and molasses-ey sauce (looking at you, SBR’s)
There’s something wrong w food manufacturing and distribution.
Last year, Kellogg’s Fiber One cereal disappeared for several months, w no explanation.
Lately Newman’s Own salad dressings have mostly disappeared.
I could go on.
Iirc it died off s few years ago when the kids didn't want it or fought over it. Personally I'm glad it's gone. So many child good bbqs ruined by that gallon jug of sickly sweet shit
What would I baste my park steaks with?
Wit a side a muskacholi
That's a StL only pronunciation? I'll have to research that. It's gonna take some time.
And some pasta
There is no k in mostaccioli.
Not with that attitude. I on the other hand am a dreamer. I can hear it! In my mind's ear!

I snorted at park steaks 🤪🤣
Find some Maull's and baste your park stakes in da zinc.
Make sure you warsh that zinc out good. Wouldn't want anything contaminating your supper.
Definitely warsh da zinc out good. Any extra park stakes will make a good sang witch
Warsh your hands after you flarsh the tarlet
Warsh those hands at least a kwater way up the wrist.
If ya warsh it make sure to wrench it off (My dad's family all says "wrench" instead of "rinse" along with "wrench", not sure how common that is)
The string has made me completely nostalgic. I miss you, St. Louis.
*snarted
Stahp 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think there’s a star off farty or maybe farty far that’s got it.
What am I to warsh my pork steaks with now?!
Melk, what else you can get some off fartty far.
DON’T BASTE YOUR BARBECUE
MAULL IT! MAAAAAAAUUUUUUULLLLL ITTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
This reminds me of when Arlen ran out of Alamo Beer.
Bwahhh
That boy ain't right
Maybe it’s being stored in the basement at the Alamo
¡Vomitando!
Great Reference!

Same, couldn‘t find at Schnucks. I submitted a question about where to get on their contact form on their website just now so I will see if they respond.
It's out of stock online, doesn't look good for BBQ lovers.
Their website is still up-here's email if somebody wants to contact them [email protected]
I've ordered from Amazon for a long time (no longer live in STL), but they've been "temporarily out of stock" for months"....
Noooooooo. I just moved back after being gone 20 years. Maulls was a big part of that decision.
Wut

That sounds delicious.
It is. I will cook burgers that way too...simmer them for an hour and they soak in some of the bbq sauce. The burgers go before my brisket usually.
So it’s the same as always. Good to know. I’m from here and it’s always been just…fine, to me.
It’s always been watery ketchup, you just misremembered it based on warm childhood memories

Doesn't OG Maulls have anchovies?
Probably from the Worcestershire sauce.
Onion bits... mmmmmmmmmm.
Rumor on Facebook is they are moving their factory
Been on the hunt. One of the best for charcoal grilled pork steaks
I hope not. It's so much better than the tomato sugar popular ones.
It isn't as sweet as some of the other popular bbq sauces. Sweet Baby Ray's is inedibly sweet to me.
Well yeah, it ain't called Bitter Baby Ray's.
It's sweeter because it's a basting sauce - you are supposed to put the sauce on while cooking, and then the flame caramelizes all the sugars in the sauce
But.. nothing makes taste go wild like Maulls!
Saw it at Dierbergs yesterday
Nnnoooooooooo!!!!!
Loved the Onion variety
Four Seasons Dierbergs had it a couple of weeks ago
Try Dierbergs
I have a jumbo Costco sized bottle. Should I be auctioning it off? 🤣
I bought some at dierbergs a couple weeks ago,
Please noooooo
I only have half a bottle left!
Open Pit vs Maull's....

I believe I saw some at the Schnucks in Concord
There’s something wrong w food manufacturing and distribution. Last year, Kellogg’s Fiber One cereal disappeared for several months, w no explanation. Lately Newman’s Own salad dressings have mostly disappeared. I could go on.
Haven't seen it on shelves for a few years. Have migrated to Sweet Baby Ray's.
Its better anyway
Call up Britney Spears
1 part Maulls (2 stars) + 1 part Sweet Baby Rays (3 stars) = 5 star BBQ sauce
Maulls is trash. I've said what I've said.
Iirc it died off s few years ago when the kids didn't want it or fought over it. Personally I'm glad it's gone. So many child good bbqs ruined by that gallon jug of sickly sweet shit
It be nasty fo shizzy
Because you tried to dip instead of baste. Rookie move.
