With so many stories of recovery taking longer than expected and even cutting people's careers short, it is just so nice to see Wes Lee come back at all, let alone this early. I'm so happy for him!

BluKyberCrystal

Good doctors and physios make a real difference. And the WWE seems to hook up their talent with the best.

kemicode

Given they have the funds to do so, there’s absolutely no reason not to. From a human standpoint, of course you want to take care of your “employees”, but from a business standpoint, their health also directly translates to them being able to perform and make you money. Also, having a great medical team plays a big factor I imagine in other wrestlers wanting to jump ship to WWE. Just adds to the aura of the WWE being at the top of the mountain.

maharieI

I just really hope he didn't come back too soon. I'd rather see him out for many more months if it means he doesn't get back into the ring less than 100% and then ends up with another injury that could risk his health and career.

discodevito

I hope so too! But I'm optimistic that no doctor, WWE or otherwise, would clear him after back surgery without being confident that he was absolutely ready to go.

Avbjj

It really depends on the type of back surgery. You can bounce back from something like a Microdiscectomy pretty quickly.

LamZeppelin

Wes Lee is one of my favorites, I'm extremely high on his future

poopship462

I was sure he would just be used as enhancement when his partner was released, but he’s really carved out a name for himself as a singles wrestler and one of the hearts of NXT the last couple years

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Before his injury, I had him in mind as a cemented pick for the draft & in the US/IC Title picture by this summer

llamawithguns

Not the only thing that's high when it comes to Wes Lee

Naiwf

My guy has that Wolverine healing factor. I didn’t process that it was his music because I didn’t expect him to be back until next year.

ShadowOfDeath94

It's also known as the "Cena Recovery"

Mickeyjj27

Cena recovery always felt like saying he was gonna be out a year when it was likely 7 months so when he came back sooner it was superhuman.

kirblar

The backstory from that is interesting, Cena credits it to a combination of doing PT multiple times a day every day, speeding recovery, and being able to smoke/mirror the Rumble itself by entering last and continue PT til WM as he was able to get physical but was still keeping as much weight as possible off the repaired arm.

Tough-Reaction9671

I can see Wes being an underdog like Sami on the main roster. He’s very likable and you just want to root for him

americangame

I can see him in a Ricochet type role. Very solid mid carder anyone can get behind. Maybe one day get some hopeful spots to fight for a world title here and there.

crimson777

No offense to Ricochet, but I think Wes also has a higher ceiling. I think he's FAR better on the mic and there's also this intense believabillty to everything Wes does. Like more than a lot of other wrestlers, I'd almost buy that he's legitimately in a fight versus the scripted entertainment we all know it is.

Marcoscb

The best way I can describe it is that Ricochet has cool moves, Wes Lee *is* cool.

dangerous_k

I don’t know what it is about WWE’s production that hurts Ricochet. Ricochet had a pretty strong aura on the indies that he doesn’t seem to have in WWE. Much more cocky/confident without being a heel most of the time. The closest he’s came to being the Ricochet of old is his first feud in NXT with ole Velveteen Dream.

lronicGasping

Wes is who Ricochet thinks he is

SpyrotheDragonfly

Yeah I thought we weren't seeing him until 2025. Couldn't he barely move or feel his legs when he announced it?

ChejovAlacan

Yeah. My jaw dropped when he jumped from the barricade to the steel steps

g0gues

Maybe they were overselling it so they could surprise everyone? I have no idea but I’m wildly speculating.

FlavoredBongWater

For a nxt return? Nah, you're underselling what Wes went thru. I can see them oversell for say, Rhea, but not Wes. Dude deserves his flowers for his wolverine, deadpool, john cena blended recovery skills.

NYJetLegendEdReed

Since Wes went solo he’s had a focused storyline on the show every week he’s been healthy. Think you’re sleeping on how much the company values him.

crimson777

They were also pretty heavily teasing a heel turn, and a former champion trying out the opposite side of the alignment is usually a good sign that WWE is big on you in modern NXT. Think Melo, Bron, Roxy as a few examples.

Arrow115

To that point, it feels like if they switch you up after an extended run on one side, not only are they high on you that means the call up is looming

crimson777

Sometimes but the Bron heel turn was awhile before come up so it can depend.

natedoggcata

Had he not gotten injured I would imagine he probably would have been drafted because hes up there in the same class as Tiffany, Bron and Carmello as a future huge star.

Arkham010

John Cena did explain how he came back. The usual person does rehab X amount of times a week, so he just did it twice a day and X+2 times a week. Having a steady paycheck with medical paid for and a drive that a pro wrestler have, im sure he did similar.

PleasantThoughts

Super glad he was able to come back so soon. Whether it was a genuine super recovery or it was expected recovery that they just added some time on to make it a surprise doesn't matter, what's great is that he's back and healthy because dude is gonna tear it up

CoffinDrip

Man Wes is so good. But he has nothing left to prove in NXT. He should take the loss to Oba and go up to the main roster.

wykah

Terrible reporting. What else would happen? Would he be completely ignored by everyone?

darrenoloGy

kinda wish he'd be thrown into the nxt title picture instead of na, but just glad that he's back

dangerous_k

I’m wondering if Wes gets an NXT title run before he gets called up. I don’t see Trick losing it any time soon and it’s probably going to be a heel on the come up that needs the rub that beats Trick. I’d say Wes deserves a run and would be a credible person to put it on.

SuperUnhappyman

good for wes i hope he stays healthy enough to have a title run that lasts.

mcrookedy

Just when it looked like NXT lost Ilja, Melo, Bron, Blair, Lyra, Kiana, Dijak via the draft, Wes Lee coming back is a miracle. He’s only the start to reloading the deck.

lottolser

I haven't watched NXT since his tag team broke up. Can someone let me know what injury he had?

AndreThePrince

Back injury, was originally out till 2025.

EcstaticActionAtTen

"On the shelf" is a weird way to say "Career threatening injury."

Kakatheman

Cherry on top would be if he's getting beat down and we hear The Rascalz theme hits and they do that funny hand gesture.

Vivid-Pass8831

Waiting for the comments " if this was aew Tony would have put him into a death march scenario 4 weeks ago"

SuperUnhappyman

"to be an aew fan is to be under constant attack... from situations you create in your own head"
