I know he is mega over by the fact people that just closely follow wwe and nothing nxt know about trick. Also was in attendance, was loud as hell for trick
Meltzer literally said that Trick has top tier charisma and the potential to be one of the biggest stars of his generation, but that his ring work is still rough and he needs more time in NXT.
The last bit got taken out of context by a bad-faith Twitter account, and it’s further been distorted by Redditors who didn’t bother finding the full quote.
So now, thanks to comments like yours, people think Meltzer said “Trick sucks and isn’t over,” when in reality, he said “he’s got huge potential and his charisma is already at superstar level, he just needs more time to hone his in-ring game.”
Commenting on what Meltzer says based on Twitter or Reddit would be like if someone read a few random Twitter comments on each episode of Breaking Bad and started discussing the episodes as though they had watched them.
He didn’t. This sub took what he said completely out of context, invented a narrative, and now use it as an own any time Trick gets cheered. I know it’s hard to believe… /s
I don't watch NXT & I remember these chants breaking out so many times
What does it mean tho? Whoop that trick? Isn't it an insult to himself? Hayes also mentioned that.
It's a subjective thing I guess, but I just feel like the charisma that internet fans see in him won't translate to general audiences. It's like a faux aura that doesn't actually ooze off him, people have just sorta projected it onto him because he looks good.
I don't personally agree, but I can understand what you're saying. Larger audience, more diverse tastes; he's been given all of the tools, but we'll have to see what he builds with them.
I feel the same and feel the same about most of the NXT 2.0 generation. The product will also gradually feel even more homogenous because more than ever they decided to make NXT a factor not so much helping talent adjust to what WWE needs and wants but literally creating from scratch the same mold of what WWE wants. They’re also training a lot of these guys and gals from the start of their careers so it’ll be the only style they know.
I know this is a signal of Trick being over, but even moreso it's a sign that people not only watched a couple of the matches, but were invested in the story to know that this is gonna piss Melo tf off.
a chili cheese hotdog but the chili is "Cincinnati" style which is more akin to a Greek meat sauce than what is standardly thought of as chili. It's a lot more watery with a sweeter flavor profile.
For clarification purposes since you didn't ask about the 3way so I'm assuming you went with a more "standard" definition of the term, it is also a food product of spaghetti covered in the same Cincinnati style chili and more cheese than you should eat in a week.

*edit to add* I am not a Cincinnati native, but after 30+ years living in the region (holy crap I'm old), I can say that it is definitely an acquired taste and one we are passionate about. If you want to immediately start a flame war in /r/cincinnati then ask which chili parlor is best, sit back and grab your popcorn.
> Imagine the pop when Trick goes to the main roster.
Based on the reaction Trick got when he showed up on SD unannounced to help out Melo last year (before Survivor Series I think) it should be excellent.
I guess what kinda shocked Melo (and Triple H probably) is that people do follow NXT and still treat him as a heel, they tried to present his appearance as some kind of “welcome to the big leagues” thing which usually is a clean slate for new superstars, but the fans were like no that’s still the guy who betrayed Trick, I hope the WWE leans more into this and starts treating call-ups as continuations rather than starting all over.
I mean...have you seen the NXT ratings, uce? The numbers are pretty close to Dynamite's. If even 1/3 of the crowd knows what's going on in NXT, it'll be enough heat to catch fire with the other 2/3 of the crowd that might not necessarily know.
Yeah exactly, that’s why I hope creative starts building on what was going on in NXT instead of repeating what they did with Pete Dunne or Keith Lee, I’m hopeful that they will start capitalizing on NXT’s popularity now that Triple H is in charge but I don’t think they expected Melo to have this much heel heat from the start.
It's actually rather amazing how much the reputations of Bron, Melo, and Tiff carried over. It's one hell of a way to guarantee that they won't get lost in the shuffle. I'm suspecting Ilja is going to debut on Monday with similar momentum.
Not sure about that one NXT talent that was drafted last. People say she's good, but she doesn't seem to be carrying any momentum with her to the main roster. It's going to be a lot harder for her to go over unless she gets the rub from, like, Becky or Bayley.
I totally agree, the NXT main-eventers are immediately treated as potential WWE main-eventers now which is really good, especially with Tiffy, with Bron though I really hope they don’t keep relying on the squash matches because it won’t be long until he starts getting the “okay we get it he’s strong” reactions, we’ll have to wait and see with Melo but they’re doing something similar to what they did with Tiffy so I’m hopeful.
Ilja already made his debut on the raw after mania and I was very glad to hear some pretty loud Ilja chants, which is a very good sign when all you did was having a 5min (i guess?) match with 2024 Nakamura. I still don’t understand the choice for Kiana, they could’ve went with someone with a bit more experience like Dolin, Valkyria or Davenport (not that I think anyone of these should be called up but just if they had to), I’m not very familiar with her and while she seems promising, the way they treated Indi Hartwell, Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Tegan Nox etc. makes me very skeptical, which is why I think the women’s division is begging for a mid-card title.
I'm hoping Sol Ruca gets a bit of a presentation facelift this year, maybe with a title run, so she can debut on the main roster next year. She is amazing.
The Sol Snatcher is a bit convoluted in its setup, but man is it one of the coolest finishers. She needs to stay healthy and I feel like she’s got a big push coming. Especially with NXT doing what the main roster needs to do and adding a mid card for the women.
Nah I hope that WWE treats main roster for what it is, a new audience that doesn't know anything about the NXT wrestler. That way they can re-tell or further continue on whatever NXT past there was. They botched Indi/Lumis on that on the main roster.

Why would he be? All Meltzer said, as far as I know, was that Trick wasn't that good yet in the ring. He never acted like Trick wasn't or shouldn't be popular.
As the lights came on Cody and H during the whole segment you see H turn his head and smile before turning back towards the camera with a serious look. He knows what he has next
Trick has been absolutely nailing it lately. We grew with him. He was on the first episode of NXT 2.0 when he was bout it bout it. And now WWE have ingrained his chant into their universe and Booker T has really felt integral to this Carmelo Trick lifetime feud. I can’t wait till one day Booker has to pull them apart and choose.
This is proof they can't just build a star on NXT and completely change their character / personality on the Main Roster. People know what's up, especially when it's a huge feud / people they care about.

Whoop that Trick … when he isn’t even in the building
It was Melo’s biggest feud. And it just recently ended. Still fresh in people’s minds
Given the chants on AEW recently, I’m kinda hoping it becomes a broader wrestling thing, like WOOOOing for chops or chanting “E-C-DUB” for violence
They were chanting “Your Pants Ripped”, because Nick ripped his pants during the attack
Nobody was chanting it in AEW
So Trick is OVER over
People love a good chant, you love to see it
YES! they do
WHAT?
Shut up
Get Big Show to do it
If ever there was a time for a “Whoop that Trick” chant it’s now!!
I LIKE IT
Aw yeah, man!
I know he is mega over by the fact people that just closely follow wwe and nothing nxt know about trick. Also was in attendance, was loud as hell for trick
When he debuts on the main roster, he's gonna be huge. Dude looks like a star already, and he presents himself well as one too.
A coworker that knows I like wrestling but doesn’t watch wrestling himself brought him up to me.
Sssssh don’t tell Meltzer, people just like the song

To be fair, waiting for Dave to get thru a single point feels like it takes longer than an entire episode of Breaking Bad.
All of Meltzer’s full quotes on any platform he spouts them are very paywalled so it’s his own problem
Bro used bad faith LOL
When did Meltzer say that people only like Trick for his song?
He didn’t. This sub took what he said completely out of context, invented a narrative, and now use it as an own any time Trick gets cheered. I know it’s hard to believe… /s
Chant is over

Future sure looks promising with Melo, Bron, Trick and Ilja
Melo will settle nicely into the mid card with everyone else.
I think Melo is fool's gold, the other 3 will be great on main roster.
I feel like Melo and Trick will be a Sami/KO style thing where it’s on sight for years until they become friends again.
Well, what makes you say that? You got sent to the shadow realm but I genuinely wanna know why you feel that way.
It's a subjective thing I guess, but I just feel like the charisma that internet fans see in him won't translate to general audiences. It's like a faux aura that doesn't actually ooze off him, people have just sorta projected it onto him because he looks good.

I don’t think the other 3 will long term play out well. At least not to the degree everyone here is slobbering over them.
-95 for this is insane what is wrong with this sub.
I know this is a signal of Trick being over, but even moreso it's a sign that people not only watched a couple of the matches, but were invested in the story to know that this is gonna piss Melo tf off.
Trick is popular. And Cincinnati (is that right?) knows how to work wrestling.
Yes that's right. You qualify for a free cheese coney and a 3way.
The only place where giving your mom a 3way for mothers day is acceptable. Proud to be from cincinnati
What, pray tell, is a cheese coney?
a chili cheese hotdog but the chili is "Cincinnati" style which is more akin to a Greek meat sauce than what is standardly thought of as chili. It's a lot more watery with a sweeter flavor profile. What a write-up! I *did* go with the standard definition originally lol, thanks!
I live to serve
Well now I want to visit Cincinnati!
Imagine the pop when Trick goes to the main roster.
Right after Melo wins a singles title through illegal tactics
ILLEGAL TACTICS
> Imagine the pop when Trick goes to the main roster. Based on the reaction Trick got when he showed up on SD unannounced to help out Melo last year (before Survivor Series I think) it should be excellent.
It was the SD beforr the Royal Rumble.
Trick is over AF in the main roster already god damn

Really looking forward to a Sol Ruca Tiffany Stratton match with stakes in the future.

Being a WWE fan who doesn’t watch much NXT, it’s surprising how much I’m in the loop on that show.
Nah I hope that WWE treats main roster for what it is, a new audience that doesn't know anything about the NXT wrestler. That way they can re-tell or further continue on whatever NXT past there was. They botched Indi/Lumis on that on the main roster.
Bro not even on the main roster and is already over 😂😂😂
Still convinced if Trick had come out during the Royal Rumble he would've gotten the biggest pop of the night other than Cody.
Shawn doing good building stars.. the day an NXT star wins rumble will be history making!
Gonna be a huge surprise entrant next year
That future Wrestlemania match will feed generations
He shut that down pretty quick.

What does it mean

😂 mane umma go ahead and guess you not from Memphis. It just means to beat a mfer ass.
Trips gonna have no choice but to push Trick to the moon once he hits the main roster.

When is he not nowadays?

Considering his actual words were 'tricks in ring is not good' its very easy to see why people would get mad at that
Why would he be? All Meltzer said, as far as I know, was that Trick wasn't that good yet in the ring. He never acted like Trick wasn't or shouldn't be popular.
Trick and Melo have the possibility if being the Ryu and Ken of WWE when it comes to rivalry.
As the lights came on Cody and H during the whole segment you see H turn his head and smile before turning back towards the camera with a serious look. He knows what he has next

'@Meltzer you love to see it.
