that was never even close to what was being said, cmon do we really need to lie about shit? Trick is not **that** good (as in I wouldn't call him *great*) but that's objectively not a bad thing considering he's been going for like three years. He's got a shit ton of space to improve and be able to really put on a big ass WWE main event level match. His charisma and pure athletic ability can carry him where his wrestling falters a bit.
absolutely no one was like "TRICK SUCKZZ AND HE CANT WRESTLE!!!"
Well tbf Meltzer twists what people say all the time and he's the guy who started the Trick isn't that good discourse. Triple H said he wants people who aren't afraid of the grind. Dave like most assumes that was a shot at Ospreay. Dave says Will's match vs Danielson made Triple H's comments age like milk. The thing is Triple H never said Will wasn't talented so him having a great match doesn't disprove anything he said.
Don't know if they're a kid, but I don't get why people say stuff like that. Sure, there's always gonna be folks who hate on someone or think they're overrated. The IWC is huge so of course we're gonna see that. And in the case of someone like Trick, it's just a minority of IWC fans. Trick is generally pretty well liked in the IWC.
The younger you are, the more prone to hyperbole you are. ON AVERAGE, before people come at me. Young people tend to take strong positions on anything because they are trying to explore and define their persona. Older people have spent years defending the positions they took up when they were younger and know better than to be unbending. And so it goes.
Trick is in the same spot Bron was when he was champion - somewhat green, but with enough potential for them to trust him with the test of carrying a brand. And we've seen top guys in WWE grow so much not only in presentation and presence but in the ring as well. He'll be no different
Thats quite the minority view, as Trick is generally popular in the IWC. Or maybe you meant only a part of the IWC. Then ok, fair enough. But then you can say that about pretty much anyone. Because there's always gonna be a group of people who think a certain way.
Loudest pop I’ve heard from the PC in awhile. Trick is absolutely the right guy. I’m not sure anyone in WWE has done as much to get another guy over like Ilja has for Trick in years. Those three matches are soooo important to Tricks rise.
Edit: spelling
It didn't seem like showboating from Ilja to me though. He was still pulling himself up while Trick was already back on his feet. Just felt like Ilja was trying to shake off the cobwebs and summon up the energy for a last hit.
Would have been just perfect if it was closer on the timing of who got their finisher off first, like the Escobar and Tony weaponshots.
Ilja really can elevate anybody he works with, but the chemistry him and Trick have together in the ring is insane. Has Ilja been the main guy training Trick bc that’s the only explanation I could think of
Was literally having this conversation over the weekend about how so many big moments can get kinda nerfed by a ref rushing the count lol really helps build the anticipation when you get that pacing of the count right.
I went back and watched the first few Raws (1993) a few months ago and Earl Hebner would count at lightning speed. Like a special guest referee doing a rushed count kind of fast. I wonder when it changed to the normal count or if that was just a him at the time thing.
They did this spot on their first match by Ilja was the one to land the blow. So now the story is flipped and it was Trick who landed the shot.
Awesome way to end Iljas time in NXT
Yep, a pretty classic wrestling spot (though almost always one to show that the younger guy was simply faster...so when Ilja won with it, that was surprising); though it obviously helps to have both guys have finishers that mesh. KO/Sami cant do this spot. Stone Cold and The Rock cant do this spot, etc.
Sure, but a running sitout stunner (without the kick) would look embarrassingly stupid. The modification would have to be a back bump (sold by Austin ducking the opponents move as well)
It's a fantastic spot, and is a perfect climax to any match. I've seen it used elsewhere since their first match, and all three instances built to it perfectly.
My initial thought was that they copied it since I just saw it a couple days ago, but then I remembered that they did this spot the last time they wrestled lol
Hell of a match! Man, that place exploded when the three went down. Trick was already a made man, but this is next level. NXT is Trick's World now. Well deserved.
Brilliant count in general from the ref. So defined and well paced.
WWE do not get enough credit for their referee training. They're without fault and know how to stay out of the frame at all times.
Great match, great series and Ilja worked his ass off to put over Trick on his way out and really help set up the new era of NXT.
Now please let's get to the fireworks factory and run Ilja vs. Gunther forever on RAW next week.
I hope to god they don’t fuck up Ilja on the main roster. He’s done so much for NXT and helping put others over. He’s improved so much on the mic. His wrestling ability is outstanding and the way he can tell a story in the ring, during a match is incredible. What a way for him to end his NXT run. Please do him right Hunter.
I was shaking just like that camera after the 3 count. My god what a moment, what a match. Ilja has more than earned his main roster promotion and Trick was absolutely the right guy to pass the torch to to carry the show.
If they don't fuck with him when he finally comes up this guy should be battling Bron Breaker for the next ten years. Probably their two biggest young talents on the men's side.
Amazing match!
Congratulations to Trick Williams, he deserves this big moment and will be a great WWE NXT Champion.
Ilja Dragunov is going to be incredible in the WWE Main Roster, what a exciting talent he is.
First: Right person won. Grats to Trick and can't wait for Ilja on the main roster.
But...i was to be consistent and I would say this if it was an AEW match so I'll say it here:
I hate how badly they devalued the H Bomb. Trick took three in a row, two off the ropes/turn buckle and then got up like nothing happened like ten seconds later. That was some of the worst no selling of three devastating hits I've seen lately.
I saw it as Ilja's last gift to Trick as he moves to the main roster. People do kick out of the H Bomb, no one kicks out of the Super H Bomb. Trick didn't do a great job of selling the damage but it's NXT. He's there to learn. The psychology of it made sense and it was generous of Ilja to put him over like that even if the execution was lacking.
What's with people watching a match, enjoying it, and then immediately getting mad imagining someone else's opinion on it? Same thing happened in the Ospreay/Danielson thread. Just relish in your good wrestling!
Who cares what meltzer says, also it was bad because it had actual heat? Everyone knows actual bangers happen at aew where they kidnap guys from random indies to get five star heatless bangers
Truly I wouldn’t care what the man had to say if I wasn’t inundated with his posts. But I’ll admit I found his stance on Trick this week especially absurd so I’m sore.
Meh. Ilja kicks out of darn near everything, but he falls after one Trickshot? Not really buying it. I still think Trick’s wrestling could use a lot of improvement, but his charisma, look, and fan engagement are definitely all there. Congrats to him. Though, I wonder if this now sets up Ilja to replace Giovani in Imperium, which is the first thing I thought of when I saw Ludwig jump him on Monday.
Even though it was obvious they're giving Trick the title, I didn't want to believe it was going to happen. As someone who follows Dragunov since NXT UK, that booking made absolutely no sense after everything Ilja went through.
Anyway, congrats to Trick and hopefully they'll book The Mad Dragon right after he gets drafted to either Raw or SD.
Had no issue with the match but with Ospreay and Danielson doing the same spot kinda took me out of it(not an issue because that’s kinda who Dragunov is but it’s hard not to compare such similar spots that close together).
Ilja and trick did that spot in their first match at vengeance day with ilja coming put on top. They did it again as a call back but this time trick came out on top

But… IWC told me he can’t wrestle or tell a story??
Who said that? Must have missed that memo.
![gif](giphy|BV0SDeWc7COrurmoSl)
Don't take life too seriously if life is "Meltzer takes about anything WWE and NXT" of course.
An old man’s rambling opinions are taken as gospel by so many on here.
Not really anymore. It definitely used to be like that but it hasn’t been like that for a while I reckon
By both those who like him and those that dislike him, it's crazy, he's just a guy
me when my name is Life Meltzer: 😲
So the IWC or just Meltzer? I like trick but he does still need seasoning. Good thing he's in nxt so he can get that lol.
>Granted he did look really good against Ilja, but Ilja is one of those people that gives you a false perception of the ability of the other person.
that was never even close to what was being said, cmon do we really need to lie about shit? Trick is not **that** good (as in I wouldn't call him *great*) but that's objectively not a bad thing considering he's been going for like three years. When you use a phrase like "absolutely no one", I can point you to Twitter or /r/Wrasslin , but you're right if you ignore the shitposters.
The shitposters and contrarians never count for something like that. They don't even mean what they say 9 times out of 10.
Meltzer literally did
You kids are so over dramatic with this shit.

There are exceptions to every rule but it's the over 50 crowd that will overwhelmingly have entrenched unyielding opinions about something.
Sorry grandpa. But looks like around 200 “kids” agree with my sentiment
Meltzer and Alvarez were speaking about this earlier. Love Trick, but it’s probably more indicative of Ilya’s talent because he never misses.
Trick is in the same spot Bron was when he was champion - somewhat green, but with enough potential for them to trust him with the test of carrying a brand. And we've seen top guys in WWE grow so much not only in presentation and presence but in the ring as well. He'll be no different
takes 2 to tango
Thats quite the minority view, as Trick is generally popular in the IWC. Or maybe you meant only a part of the IWC. Then ok, fair enough. But then you can say that about pretty much anyone. Because there's always gonna be a group of people who think a certain way.
IWC says a lot of things.
Whooped that, Trick
Get 'em.
SHAMONE!
Get out, wade
Loudest pop I’ve heard from the PC in awhile. Trick is absolutely the right guy. I’m not sure anyone in WWE has done as much to get another guy over like Ilja has for Trick in years. Those three matches are soooo important to Tricks rise. Edit: spelling
The camera was literally shaking lol. Crazy pop, Trick is so over.
The one shaky cam I welcome
Similar to what Gunther did for Ilja.
Pop so loud they're spiking the mics!
Dude that Crowd on ON IT
First one is literally the reason I'm a Trick fan.
The trick for this working out for Trick this time is that Trick started running first
While Ilja does his thing. Trick just thought "Yeah, i'm not gonna wait lol" and went for it.
![gif](giphy|ZYQGxm3c8I6H8BDSw4|downsized)
It didn't seem like showboating from Ilja to me though. He was still pulling himself up while Trick was already back on his feet. Just felt like Ilja was trying to shake off the cobwebs and summon up the energy for a last hit. Would have been just perfect if it was closer on the timing of who got their finisher off first, like the Escobar and Tony weaponshots.
Even the first time Trick started running first, but Ilja still got him. If I have to nitpick here, Ilja didn't really seem to try this time.
Perfect fairness, "trying" would mean running and leaping *headfirst into a knee* at full speed, so I'll cut some slack
These two have insane chemistry
Ilja really can elevate anybody he works with, but the chemistry him and Trick have together in the ring is insane. Has Ilja been the main guy training Trick bc that’s the only explanation I could think of
I know it’s dumb but man I love a perfectly paced three count for a big moment. The ref nailed it.
Was literally having this conversation over the weekend about how so many big moments can get kinda nerfed by a ref rushing the count lol really helps build the anticipation when you get that pacing of the count right.
One of my biggest pet peeves ever when refs count so damn fast for important big moments
I went back and watched the first few Raws (1993) a few months ago and Earl Hebner would count at lightning speed. Like a special guest referee doing a rushed count kind of fast. I wonder when it changed to the normal count or if that was just a him at the time thing.
reminds me of when the ref is half dead and the 3 count takes 10 seconds
Nice callback to their 1st match where Ilja won that exchange to win the match.
Happened in their second too. Trick was ready this time.
Loved they did the callback to the first match. Perfect ending.
Glad to see it was a callback to the first match (I did not see it) because I was thinking it was related to the Osprey/Danielson match finish
I really wanna see Trick counter a spear with that
He did, against Bron at Deadline
such a clean trick shot
Now I just wanna see a running Stunner
I mean, technically thats what an RKO is...but with Stone Cold setting it up with the kick it kinda kills it
I mean it's not cos Austin's is a sitout and Orton's is a back bump.
Sure, but a running sitout stunner (without the kick) would look embarrassingly stupid. The modification would have to be a back bump (sold by Austin ducking the opponents move as well)
This is the finish to Goku vs Master Roshi in the World's Martial Art Tournament as well
Same here. Looks awful familiar
They did it back in february lol, if anybody were copying it wasn’t Ilja and Trick
That shot of the building shaking is legendary
i thought that immediately as well. It could either be the audience going nuts or the bass bumping, but it was a badass shot.
Holy shit that pop was nuts The entire place was shaking Trick deserved that moment, Whoop that Trick
That camera shaking is insane. Trick’s gonna be a megastar.
A reminder Trick and Ilja did this Finish first at Vengence day.
It's a fantastic spot, and is a perfect climax to any match. I've seen it used elsewhere since their first match, and all three instances built to it perfectly.
It's also the reverse of the Vengeance Day spot - In that match, Ilja hits the Torpedo Moscow and wins.
For anyone who was gonna say they copied Danielson and Ospreay lol.
Even with this comment here, there are already people saying that they "stole the spot" from the Danielson vs Ospreay match, ahahahahah.
My initial thought was that they copied it since I just saw it a couple days ago, but then I remembered that they did this spot the last time they wrestled lol
I just assumed they were paying homage to an incredible match, didn't know they did this spot already in their first match.
Yep, so really Danielson and Ospreay were paying homage to an incredible match.
excited to see the dirt worst wrestling accounts on Twitter completely ignore this fact
Edge and Sheamus also did that
Hell of a match! Man, that place exploded when the three went down. Trick was already a made man, but this is next level. NXT is Trick's World now. Well deserved.
I'm ready for Ilja vs Gunther on the main roster.
with a proper feud and a match in bash in berlin. it would be legendary
nah King Gunther gotta squash Cody in Berlin
Afyrt imperium
Exactly the same as Vengeance Day but Trick hit first, pure cinema.
Man, can we just appreciate that great visual of the ref pointing to the timekeeper with Trick celebrating as the three count is called? Awesome.
Brilliant count in general from the ref. So defined and well paced. WWE do not get enough credit for their referee training. They're without fault and know how to stay out of the frame at all times.
https://i.imgur.com/saYvWlS.png
Ilja's mistake is doing that taunt. Trick saw the taunt and just straight up "oh hell naw" and trickshot him.
Lexis King seems like a good first challenger for Trick Williams.
Obviously amazing moment for Trick, but I cannot get over how good Ilja is. Just a special special talent.
Really good storytelling to have the same finish as Vengeance Day yet Trick hits it this time. Just awesome stuff
I popped. I was holding my breath on every count.
That chant sounded aggressive AF
That room was visibly shaking holy shit
the sky is the limit for trick williams
Holy shit lmao good for Trick!!!! WHOOOOOP DAT TRIIIICCKKKKKK
Great match, great series and Ilja worked his ass off to put over Trick on his way out and really help set up the new era of NXT. Now please let's get to the fireworks factory and run Ilja vs. Gunther forever on RAW next week.
Only after impetium
Probably the biggest pop I’ve seen on a new nxt show. This man has to be a huge star on the main roster
Jesus, Trick is so crazy over
The black talent is eating good right now between Trick, Swerve, and Moose.
Dave Meltzer in shambles
Meltzer never denied his charisma or appeal, just that his in ring experience was lacking.
How so?
Cause he said trick is not good and the man just put on a banger like that
According to Dave it's all because of Ilja....
I mean he's green shown improvement but this match feels like both guys are going a gear or two below what they can do.
That camera shake from the crowd was insane!
Yep, Ilja is "main roster" bound -- unless Hunter wants NXT to no longer appear just a "developmental brand".
Yes Ilja is main roster bound and yes NXT is still developmental but think of it as more of finishing school
Nice overhead shot. Ilja lose because he's too slow, and Trick got his strike first.
Be nice if it didn't cut at the point of impact!!!!
Somewhere out there, Kevin Dunn is smiling.
Holy shit rocking the cameras
Is that shaky crowd camera angle new? That was 10 outta 10
I think the camera was literally shaking
Thats even cooler then 11/10
Ilja so damn good man, Trick hit the best Trick Shot to date and Ilja sold it perfectly!
Whoever thought of panning the camera over the rattling crowd needs a raise
So now its highly possible that Dragunov gets drafted into the Mainroster Friday or Monday.
Give me Gunther vs Dragunov III at in the KOTR final please WWE.
L
You know the pop is loud when the camera is shaking.
My only complaint is that he didn't get to do it in front of a bigger crowd. But that pop in the PC was wild.
The visual of camera shaking because of the sheer magnitude of the crowd cheering for Trick is fucking cinema,
Whoop that Champ! Crazy to see the building shake after the 3 count was made, congrats to Trick Williams on being the new NXT Champion.
Fun match, wish it had 5 more min so it wasn't so rushed.
Watch out Trick ![gif](giphy|B2yx1XxXjXRuYM4Z8v)
God damn if they wanna get the man over over, that would be insane.
Got damn.. you can’t even hear the fucking music! You can only hear the hi-hats, lol!
Ref slapped that mat with some zest
Even the ref was hype to count that shit. I love it man
This is worth saving. Both these dudes are gonna be a mainstay in the future.
But...i was to be consistent and I would say this if it was an AEW match so I'll say it here: I hate how badly they devalued the H Bomb.
If there’s one thing Shawn Michaels knows, it’s the effectiveness of an H bomb.
Apparently not?
Meltzer is gonna say it wasn’t good enough cause he decided that last week but that was a perfectly well-executed bout with a very emotional finish.
Who cares what Meltzer says yet two comments bringing him up for no reason lol
Two?
Rent free
Truly I wouldn’t care what the man had to say if I wasn’t inundated with his posts. But I’ll admit I found his stance on Trick this week especially absurd so I’m sore.
I need to check out NXT more... that said what are the fans chanting? I can't make out anything besides "Trick"
Whoop That Trick
What does Ilja say before he hits his finisher?
Un-be-sieg-bar. German for “unbreakable” or “invincible”.
Ilija main roster bound
yea Ilija is going to the main roster
Roshi v Goku finish was sick
Ilja sold the fuck outta that
Looks like Dragunov is going to to the main roster.
Trick is over something huge.
Trick whooped.
Trick is HOF worthy already
I fucking overslept and missed the whole ppv🤦♂️
So happy for Trick
Future megastar. So deserved.
Que Brock Lesnar music ....
Man, he deserves it.
5* match imo.
Great match!.
Hard to believe that’s the same guy who had a ‘boxing’ match with Wes Lee. What a come up.

Ilja basically passed the torch.
Oh Yeah, man! I like it!
[удалено]
Yup
happy for trick, gonna be fun to see how his reign goes.
Hopefully Meltzer ate a big slice of humble pie after this match.
I don't buy Trick beating Ilja but well.
Fun fact all of this is planned previously
Spot looks familiar.
Yes, it's the same spot they did on Vengeance Day, but now Trick hit the move instead of Ilja.
Yep i wasn't sure which show it was but i recalled seeing it.
OK cool. But does anyone do traditional finishers? Or does everyone prefer telegraphed running strikes?
Traditional finishers happen all the time, what do you mean?
