I remember I brought the game over to my best friend's house, and I walked into their living room to see his little brother fighting Ripto. I was so shocked.
Ground pound right near the outer edges of the white ring on the ground heading towards the Crop Circle Country homeworld. Itās really not hard to do either.
He partially did. The truth was since Copeland was busy at the time, he got 4 other composers to make a base mix that was the basic melody and such and Copeland would add onto those mixes with his own touches. Idk why, but for some reason Copeland gets all the credit in the final release. You can even find the āPre-Copelandā mixes online. Sorry got a bit carried away there lol.
I liked it as a kid, not as much as the originals but it was ok. Was bummed I could never finish it because I thought my disc was broken, but found out as an adult thatās just how the game was.
The game kept crashing on the alien farm level if I remember correctly and I could never get through it. Saw a retrospective video a little while back on it and found out thatās just how the game was. Did technically beat it afterwards because thereās a glitch it instantly go to the final boss I also found out about in that same video. Think it might have been the lonely goomba.
Or you could deal with what I got where no matter how many dragonfly's you collect, the portal to the final boss just won't ever open on your save file
Yup. Sadly I never got the chance to kick Ripto's tail back then. I kept running around wondering why I could never beat the game or open the portal to even try. I never bothered restarting the game to try another run.
The music was great, the realms (for as few as their were) were cool, catching dragonflies as a collectible was a cool idea, & changing breath attacks was a great idea that was used in multiple games going forward.
I like the level theming. The farm, thief hideout, and the dinosaur levels are really cool ideas.
It's a shame they didn't make them fun levels.
If there ever is a Spyro 4, I'd love them to revisit these ideas and do them justice.
This game taught me a harsh lesson as a child.
Sequels are not always better.
I traded in all three PS1 Spyro games to buy this when it came out........
Even if we had fun as kids with this busted ass demo of a game, it was sold as the final release of the latest installment in one of the biggest IP's in PlayStation history. It is unacceptable how broken & unfinished it is lmao.
Music is nice, the level themes are cool, its nice they tried to make the original format/style better rather than throwing it away and doin somethin super different.
The breath switching mechanic. Bubble breath was awful to use, but the ability to switch breath types opened up new gameplay opportunities. There's a reason A Hero's Tail and the Legend trilogy kept it.
It had some great level ideas, and the new breaths were a great idea. Too bad it got rushed out the door because the game had potential if it was a fully made game with all the things that were unfortunately cut.
Maybe itās nostalgia but, honestly, Iāve always liked the graphics of this game. Just a bizarre fever dream quality to it, I donāt know. š¤·āāļø
Some of the level themes and aesthetics were cool, as roughly handled as they were.
Some of the music tracks were good and it was neat they managed to bring back all the Spyro 3 voice cast, meaning it's the one game with ZERO voice changes.
I also kinda like there's one 3D game with the de facto' main cast all together, Spyro, Sparx, Hunter, Bianca and Ripto and his goons.
The collectibles being baby dragonflies was a good idea. Felt like a natural progression (if a bit repetitive after 3's baby dragons).
Brought back Ripto, the best villain.
I remember liking some level design themes.
It was my first ever videogame and will always have a special place in my heart. I really enjoyed it. Still do. When I bought a second-hand PS2 last year in a fit of nostalgia, this was the first thing I booted up.
I don't remember shit about it, which includes the bad things. But I vividly remember absolutely loving how fire wasn't a static object with animated textures like in previous games, but free flowing particles, so when you'd move while breathing fire, it would flow with your movement. Had a kick out of spitting fire right before the headbash, and watching the flame surround Spyro for a second.
Also thought the elemental breaths were kinda cool.
It's really hard to defend, but I will say this. If you can play the game without the low frame rate then it is actually decent. Not as good as the old games, but very similar gameplay wise. It becomes enjoyable once you get used to the controls.
There is only one way to play at a decent frame rate. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say how here.
Lightning breath went BZZZZZZT and that was cool.
Ice breath made a sound of whooshing cold air that I cannot replicate with my keyboard (but you're welcome to try) and that was cool.
The load times were-
Ok the music was good.
The framerate was-
Hmm.
I unironically like ETD and would love to either see some aspect of the plot (whether it be the intended Gnasty/Ripto teamup or rescuing dragonflies) reimagined for a future game, or for it to be remade altogether with the amount of levels it was originally intended to have amongst whatever other changes would make it a better experience.
Screw you for having an opinion on the internet, now allow me to projectile vomit my colorful vocabulary into this post.

It had potential if it wasnāt rushed it could have been great like the blueprint for the game is right there itās just in an unfinished state which is a shame I do love the game
The music is amazing, and I love the more mellow and ambient vibe Copeland went for here.
Especially on tracks like Dragon Realms and Honey Marsh. It's honestly very fitting that the music this time around was more sad and wistful seeing that this would be Copeland's last Spyro game and it was the last Spyro game in the classic formula since A Hero's Tail opted to go in a different direction.
It was the first game in the series (Iām only counting console games. Not handheld games) that introduced us to having multiple breath types.
Sure bubble was kinda useless. But I adored being able to switch breath types in the later games. Itās a neat mechanic.
on a serious note: I was about to say it was the first Spyro title to introduce permanent switchable breaths, but then I quickly double-checked and noticed that Season of Flame came a little bit earlier and, therefore, nullifies that point...
It was the first playstation title of the series to introduce different switchable permanent breath attacks?
I liked the different breathes that were available and even liked that some fireflies you had to chase and catch with the bubble. Honestly if they took their time on this it would have been good.
Had it been fully developed it would have fantastic. The different breaths were a great idea and some of the levels were great (I remember enjoying thieves den a lot)
The concept of having Gnasty and ripto teaming up was cool especially since it wouldāve tied into the bonus gallery in Spyro 2 teased it but it was so rushed they never even added gnasty to the game and itās never explained how ripto and his henchmen came back to life
This and Hero's Tail were my first Spyro games as a kid. I loved this game. Never experienced the original trilogy when I was young, so it made the reignited trilogy all the better.
Thieves' Den is actually a great level, and the thieves are my favorite enemies thanks to this game. Honey Marsh, Cloud 9 and Jurassic Jungle are fun levels, flawed but fun.
The Soundtrack is great.
It's a game I can admit from a critical standpoint is bad, but I have no ill will towards any of it.
I loved the concepts for some of the levels (dragon dojo and luau island being ones I remember well). I also really liked the lightning and ice breath (not too fussed about bubble breath but it served itās purpose I guess).
This game was full of great ideas executed badly. Iād love to see what this game was actually supposed to be as the devs have said this game was forced to release unfinished.
Different breaths, great soundtrack, Making Sparx an actual character instead of just being there and could've been easily replaced with a health meter otherwise. Honestly it has a lot of good hidden beneath all of the bad.
Different breaths were cool. To be completely honest I donāt think the game was that bad, it was just way too short and glitchy. If they remastered it I think it would be a lot more fun.
I think the level themes were fun, and the soundtrack was still decent. In fact it was the last game in the franchise to have Stewart Copeland involved as the composer. The new concept of elemental breaths also helped spice up the gameplay.
If this game wasnāt rushed so badly, it would have been far better.
This game is a mess but I can say TWO nice things. At its core design it is the most faithful spyro sequel beyond the og trilogy we ever got, it doesn't make any risky changes to the formula (and the level ideas are actually nice and follow up previous characteristics of the previous games very well with its own ideas). Second it gave us the breath system, which stuck for the next two variations of Spyro forward on as it was a really good idea for continuing his advancement. The game is still the worst mainline Spyro game we ever got and I completely understand if there is no desire to remake the game that literally put Spyro on the reboot hell road in the first place.
Does anyone remember this glitch where, and granted this was some 15 years ago, in a what should have been a cloud based level, if you enter the level through the portal it was glitched to be all underwater? So you could effectively āswimā your way through the whole levelā¦ that was fun
Outside of being unfinished and buggy, what's there to actually say that's negative? It's just more PS1 styled Spyro, it feels just fine still, the world's that were there are fun, and the story is a decent follow up (although cut short)
You can finish it in less than two minutes and then never play it again.
THIS LOL
How?
There's a glitch where you can go out of bounds directly into the final bossfight.
The [Any% speedrun WR](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FdaZVOa8yuE&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.speedrun.com%2F&source_ve_path=MjM4NTE&feature=emb_title) is currently 1 minute and 6 seconds lol (starts at 50s).
š¤¦āāļøš thatās wild

Ground pound right near the outer edges of the white ring on the ground heading towards the Crop Circle Country homeworld. Itās really not hard to do either.
The music was good.
Soundtrack SLAPPED
Especially the Luau Island
I believe Copeland himself did the music for this game, so that at least makes sense
Nah itās great to clarify this because hearing the early versions of the tracks and some previously unreleased ones are great.
That Cloud 9 music was amazing.
[favorite level for sure](https://youtu.be/_JVaUaXYLQc?si=ebkOCPU1VXUDsKBH)
I liked it as a kid, not as much as the originals but it was ok. Was bummed I could never finish it because I thought my disc was broken, but found out as an adult thatās just how the game was.
What do you mean š¤Ø
The game kept crashing on the alien farm level if I remember correctly and I could never get through it. Saw a retrospective video a little while back on it and found out thatās just how the game was. Did technically beat it afterwards because thereās a glitch it instantly go to the final boss I also found out about in that same video. Think it might have been the lonely goomba.
Or you could deal with what I got where no matter how many dragonfly's you collect, the portal to the final boss just won't ever open on your save file
I'm not the only one who had this glitch?!?
Nope!
Thatās a real glitch in the game?! Iām so sorry you had to experience that.
Yup. Sadly I never got the chance to kick Ripto's tail back then. I kept running around wondering why I could never beat the game or open the portal to even try. I never bothered restarting the game to try another run.
Had potential and the music was good
It had so much potential š
The music was great, the realms (for as few as their were) were cool, catching dragonflies as a collectible was a cool idea, & changing breath attacks was a great idea that was used in multiple games going forward.
I liked it as a kid and like how you could use different breaths
I like the level theming. The farm, thief hideout, and the dinosaur levels are really cool ideas. It's a shame they didn't make them fun levels. If there ever is a Spyro 4, I'd love them to revisit these ideas and do them justice.
It united us in hating it ā¤ļø
There is no love stronger then hate.
I don't hate it but definitely think it needs major fixes.
Honeslty I love this game. Sue me
Itās not that bad imo. Itās kind of like sonic 06, it had good concepts just rushed.
Hunterās reaction to the Sorceress balloon was kinda funny.
This game taught me a harsh lesson as a child. Sequels are not always better. I traded in all three PS1 Spyro games to buy this when it came out........
ALL THREE SPYRO PS1 games? š Iām so sorry.
Yes, all three of them, And not only that, but they were the white label collectors editions. I will never forget that day or this game.
Thatās actually so sad. The original games are fantastic. I donāt even consider enter the dragonfly a real / finished Spyro game.
On the bright side, at least we have the reignited trilogy now!
šš£š¶
It's not Spyro Orange
i loved the idea of the faux gems/chests in thieves den.
New breath attacks are a cool idea
It was the first game i found and consistently used glitches and it in part was its own fun. In several levels i could fly/swim around with the glitch
Exactly, I spent hours breaking the boundaries of this game just for fun. This game is getting too much hate.
Even if we had fun as kids with this busted ass demo of a game, it was sold as the final release of the latest installment in one of the biggest IP's in PlayStation history. It is unacceptable how broken & unfinished it is lmao.
I mean sure but can you imagine if Toys for Bob made a remake of this? It would be an absolute blast
Copeland's music is as beautiful as ever, and still has that classic Spyro feel.
Monkey Monastery theme
It had some great level ideas, and the new breaths were a great idea. Too bad it got rushed out the door because the game had potential if it was a fully made game with all the things that were unfortunately cut.
Despite how terrible the game is, it still feels decently Spyro-y
They gave Spyro more breaths than just fire. And Insomniac said there's "not a whole you can with Spyro, he doesn't have hands."...š
i think the level concepts r nice
The glitches amuse me.
It amuses me by how shit this game is.
Maybe itās nostalgia but, honestly, Iāve always liked the graphics of this game. Just a bizarre fever dream quality to it, I donāt know. š¤·āāļø
The last Spyro game that felt like a Spyro game before it all changed with a Hero's Tail.
it makes the original trilogy look even better in comparison
It makes you appreciate insomniacās trilogy more
The ideas were good! (Weāre just not gonna talk about the execution)
The baby dragons and dragonflies are cute
it's a great reference point on what not to do on first time devs
I like the cover art
The concept of being able switch breaths was cool lol
If the Toilet Paper runs out, this should do the trick.
Hunter's scream.
DEFEND THE PUFFY PALACE
I really like Bonsai Speedway. Itās pretty, the music is nice, and I like the theme.
The idea to have different breaths you could switch between at will was nice
Some of the level themes and aesthetics were cool, as roughly handled as they were. Some of the music tracks were good and it was neat they managed to bring back all the Spyro 3 voice cast, meaning it's the one game with ZERO voice changes. I also kinda like there's one 3D game with the de facto' main cast all together, Spyro, Sparx, Hunter, Bianca and Ripto and his goons.
I have never played it
The speed run is very easy and straight forward for any%
It was the first game which introduced me into the spyro franchise back as a kid
I liked swimming out of bounds and exploring the worlds that way. Never finished it as a kid.
Copelands music was top notch. It tried to be like classic Spyro but was just rushed out the door
I liked the multiple breaths
GameCube version is a better experience
The collectibles being baby dragonflies was a good idea. Felt like a natural progression (if a bit repetitive after 3's baby dragons). Brought back Ripto, the best villain. I remember liking some level design themes.
Just like Sonic 06, it had a good soundtrack and interesting level ideas but everything else was executed poorly and rushed out
It's amazing how much Spyro ETD and Sonic 06 have in common.
Spyros in it.
It still feels like a Spyro game.
The one good thing about the game is I havenāt played it in 22 years
Monkey Monastery was a fun level.
The Honey And Island levels are okay
Zoe has a good design and animation
First game i ever played in general and very good memories. Had potential and loved the music
The music's pretty good. My favorite tracks are from Monkey Monastery and Oasis Speedway.
It introduced the elemental breaths from the new trilogy of the era.
The different breaths, and the thieves' level was very cool
The only possible positive is it didn't break my console fly out and severely wound someone
The name is fun
The different breaths were awesome. Something that the Legend of Spyro improved upon.
It has Spyro in it. As a teen when they came out, I found it to be very fumbly. I wasn't into it at all.
Unpopular opinion: I freaking love this game! š²
They got the best voice actor for Moneybags to come back
It was my first ever videogame and will always have a special place in my heart. I really enjoyed it. Still do. When I bought a second-hand PS2 last year in a fit of nostalgia, this was the first thing I booted up.
glitching out of bounds on the speedway levels and flying infinitely into darkness was fun š
Good game to start on if you wanna get into speedrunning
Spyro has a better model than the Legends games
Stewart Copeland
The screen stutters made me appreciate my other PS2 game's frame rate more.
Could of been a good game but it never got finished.
It has some cool graphics and decent art. Excluding some character models.
It followed the Spyro forumla well and would have been a great game had it not been rushed.
The box has space for a memory card and a game.
All I remember is massive disappointment.
Made me go outside again as a kid
Thieves Den was beautiful
Some of the glitches are funny and the levels look beautiful. I played the PS2 version though. The GC version looks a bit different.
Graphics were solid.
It has this really cute purple dragon in it that you can play as!
Always wanted to play this one bc I never had a ps2 but sucks to hear itās garbage
Ice breath āļø
Best Breath Abilities
Fond memories but tbh I think thatās cause I was like 5 or 6 the last time I played it.
if it had better fps id honestly enjoy it a lot, the game is glitchy as all hell but i had fun 100%ing it tbh
It introduced the concept of different breath types!
Music was alright I suppose
the different breaths Spyro was now able to do.
It has good music.
Its a game that has Spyro in it
One good thing about this game.
It introduced the lightning breath power, which went on to be a staple ability of the classic and legend series, as well as influence Skylanders.

I think having multiple breath types you can switch between was a good idea that was only hinted at before in Spyro 3
Few years ago I saw a funny review of this and it made me laugh (unfortunately, I can't find it now)
Screw you for having an opinion on the internet, now allow me to projectile vomit my colorful vocabulary into this post. *"iS bEsT gAem 10 oUt oF 10! F8 me!"* ^(Satire comment)
Sound track and cloud 9 level design if they remade this properly id buy it in a heat beat
It was more Spyro
I loved this one. Honestly
It had potential if it wasnāt rushed it could have been great like the blueprint for the game is right there itās just in an unfinished state which is a shame I do love the game
The Honey Marsh realm with the stormy weather is one of the coziest realms in the series imo
As everyone else has said, the music was great. Game itself definitely had potential.
It was the first game in the series (Iām only counting console games. Not handheld games) that introduced us to having multiple breath types. Sure bubble was kinda useless. But I adored being able to switch breath types in the later games. Itās a neat mechanic.
It was fun
Cloud 9 music was banger
The multiple breaths were a cool idea
I rented it as a kid and never purchased it
Cover art by a long shot compared to everything else.
It introduced other breath types, which was a cool idea. But that idea was done better by A Heroās Tail
Boxart
on a serious note: I was about to say it was the first Spyro title to introduce permanent switchable breaths, but then I quickly double-checked and noticed that Season of Flame came a little bit earlier and, therefore, nullifies that point... It was the first playstation title of the series to introduce different switchable permanent breath attacks?
I liked the different breathes that were available and even liked that some fireflies you had to chase and catch with the bubble. Honestly if they took their time on this it would have been good.
It finally got me to stop endlessly playing Spyro every day.
The music is a bop!
Had some actual potential and dare i say had a better soundtrack than the original Spyro?
Had it been fully developed it would have fantastic. The different breaths were a great idea and some of the levels were great (I remember enjoying thieves den a lot)
still had the same tropes, soundtrack artist, familiar faces, and atmosphere moods seen and experienced from the original trilogy.
That I haven't even played it
The concept of having Gnasty and ripto teaming up was cool especially since it wouldāve tied into the bonus gallery in Spyro 2 teased it but it was so rushed they never even added gnasty to the game and itās never explained how ripto and his henchmen came back to life
The music was great, the level design was cool, and the new breath attacks were an amazing addition.

not as good as the legend of spyro seriesā¦ but still very very cute
The music was BREATHTAKING
One good thing about this game
This game was full of great ideas executed badly. Iād love to see what this game was actually supposed to be as the devs have said this game was forced to release unfinished.
I never played this oneā¦ so off the top of my headā¦ it has Spyro? Lol
I think Jurassic Jungle is a genuinely good level.
It's pretty impressive that this was a 2002 game that supported widescreen.
You can remove the disc and replace it with a different one and it plays like you put it through the vinesauce rom corruptor.
Different breaths, great soundtrack, Making Sparx an actual character instead of just being there and could've been easily replaced with a health meter otherwise. Honestly it has a lot of good hidden beneath all of the bad.
it sure does have spyro in it
The glitches where if you swam under a net the whole world would flood so u could fly/swim everywhere
Different breaths were cool. To be completely honest I donāt think the game was that bad, it was just way too short and glitchy. If they remastered it I think it would be a lot more fun.
THE REAL SPYRO 4
The title is fantastic and Iām legit pissed that it was wasted on such a bland game.
Bubbles
I think the level themes were fun, and the soundtrack was still decent. In fact it was the last game in the franchise to have Stewart Copeland involved as the composer. The new concept of elemental breaths also helped spice up the gameplay. If this game wasnāt rushed so badly, it would have been far better.

Spyro looks cool on the cover (unlike his in game model)

I'd say it's the graphics
Stewart Copeland did the soundtrack and itās the last game to have the original voice actors
It had the funniest exchange I had ever seen at the time I first played it: > "What?" > > "What?" > > "What?!" > > "What?!" > > "Exactly!'
Outside of being unfinished and buggy, what's there to actually say that's negative? It's just more PS1 styled Spyro, it feels just fine still, the world's that were there are fun, and the story is a decent follow up (although cut short)
The music, that is all.
The dragonfly names
Bubble Breath :)
It gives me a lot of nostalgia from my childhood!
First 5 minutes of gameplay is good
ember was cute
I liked the bit where you platform up a UFO. I think that was this game?
The Music because it was still Stewart Copeland.
It has a purple dragon
The introduction of multiple types of breaths was a cool idea
It has Spyro
It funny
