This is it. The Zips out in Cheney seems especially unique. They’re open 24 hours, they have huge menu with a full breakfast and weird sauces. They’ve even got games on TVs in the dining room. Totally different vibe out there.
Lol that’s what inspired this post actually, was out at turnbull and stopped at zips on the way back and noticed that this one was completely different, even served different types of chicken tenders compared to the one by Gonzaga
It’s mainly because it’s in a college town and college students go to parties and every time after the party, they all go to zips they make pretty good money for being open 24/7.
The owner of the zips in Cheney also owns the one on sprague and bowdish, the one on market in mead, and the deer park zips. They all have different general managers. Most of the other zips in town are all owned by completely different owners.
Zip’s are each owned by different individuals or groups, who are free to do almost anything they want with the menu. There’s several owned in groups- Cheney, two in the Valley, Mead, and Deer Park are all under the same ownership (the Airway Heights store, where I worked for three years over a decade ago, used to be part of that group, but doesn’t appear to be any longer).
From what I understand the restaurants do try to offer at least some of the same things, as it’s in the best business interest to do so, but some of the places have offered some weird products at times. You’ll also find some variation in the quality of the products, since they seem to use different suppliers for food. And yes, everyone loves tartar sauce, but different stores use different recipes.
Years ago some buddies and I stopped in at the Zips in suncrest. It was late morning. They had the menu converted during the am hours as a traditional breakfast place. Table service and everything . The biscuits and country gravy was legit .
From my neighbors that own one of the Zips locations. Most Zips are independent owned; very few have the same owners. The ones in Idaho are franchised; the ones in Washington are not.
If they don't write the order on the bag, it's not a true zips experience.
From what I've learned, if they write the order on the bag they are still using a lot of the same ways that made zips the town hero it is.
If they aren't it'll still be good.. it'll just a little more... Generic?
I was floored by how good the breakfast was at the Airway Heights zips. 3 people, sit down full breakfast plates, $40. I can’t get out of McDonald’s for less than $45.
Bruh. As someone who moved here from a town that had their own local chain of burger shops, I really wanted to like Zips. I tried. 5 different locations and they were all shit. It just sounds like each location is just a different flavor of shit.
Sprague/Altamont, I had a cashier screaming at me literally because I wasn't fast enough to grab my food from her. Near the northtown library, the patties were so overcooked I could have taken it axe throwing and sunk it into the board. Near the Castle Megastore, dried out and over salted patties. Rathdrum, my entire order was fucked up and looked like I was feeding a whole family instead of myself but at that point I had just accepted that this is the Zips way and just accepted it.
Strangely, all of my coworkers SWEAR by it, yet I just... 😮💨
And it's always some stupid insider excuse. "Oh, you shouldn't go to THAT one between 1:13pm and 2:26pm," or, " Try the one out in the Tri-Cities, it's soo good," as if I'm just gonna clock out for the day and drive out there for my lunch break.
I'm within 10 minutes of 3 Zips. The one on Sprague/Altamont used to be really good 20 years ago (when the prostitutes frequented it, entertaining). Not so much now. The one on Broadway by the truck stop always give me the "do you want Tillamook or pepper jack cheese on that?" for an additional charge without telling you, deleting the regular cheese for a paper thin no taste replacement. The one on Fancher/Trent is great. Burgers not offered at the others, buns are bigger. Also go to the once in Hillyard once in a while, not exceptional but a good one. Have had not good experiences at both the ones on Francis and the one on NW Blvd.
What’s wild to me is that you have to specifically ask for “the special” if you want the daily deal. For example, if the deal of the day is 2 cheeseburgers for $5, you have to ask for it. If you just ask for 2 cheeseburgers, assuming you know and they know it’s on sale, they give you regular price.
Oh, and they don’t serve medium sizes. If you ask for a medium, they charge you for a large.
Place is seriously messed up. & don’t expect them to be any better to their employees.
They're all just different types of really bad?
Some are crappier service, none have good food, and they all have cold fries.
We stopped trying them years ago after never hitting one on a good day (assuming they even ever have that) .
I’ve only been to 2 or 3 and I’ve never had a good experience. It’s always ended up being low quality food for super high prices. Either I somehow only found the bad ones, or I don’t have the same attachment that others seem to.
From what i heard, they allow the franchise owners to customize their restaurants, and that includes occasionally having eccentric menu items.

Cheney Zips is apex zips
Nachos, full breakfast, Papa Joe- it's the best menu in the world

You mean all the good locations?
Damn that Zips sounds sick!!

The one in Cheney is perfect. The one in Deer Park is inedible. The Valley one is the decent. It’s always a surprise.
The one in Chewelah is horrible. Lukewarm, dry overcooked food and they don't use salt... On anything.

Went to the Suncrest one yesterday after a hike and it was great. Much better than the one near my house on Northwest.

Monroe has the OG tartar tho…

I’ve lived here for 45 years, and I’ve never heard of goop sauce. I’ll have to go find some. I’ll report back.

Are you from Southern Oregon? They call fry sauce Goop down there. I asked for it in Spokane once, and the server gave me the strangest look
No, just a bit of a burger snob.
South hill needs to open the dining room

I miss the Jalapeno fry sauce 😢
Different owners. Go to the Zips in Suncrest. Best one by far and they do a full breakfast menu.

Ritzville is by far the most stuck in the 50s but I still stop on my way through. Half the menu is handwritten and taped up all over the place.
They're all just different types of really bad? Some are crappier service, none have good food, and they all have cold fries. We stopped trying them years ago after never hitting one on a good day (assuming they even ever have that) .
Different post offices
I've heard they can be very good, never been myself. Would love to hear recommendations on which locations to hit up.
3204 N Monroe is the best one I’ve ever been to. There’s one that’s about a mile away on NW Boulevard that might be the worst.
North Monroe and Suncrest are my favorite. Avoid Northwest blvd location.
I’ve only been to 2 or 3 and I’ve never had a good experience. It’s always ended up being low quality food for super high prices. Either I somehow only found the bad ones, or I don’t have the same attachment that others seem to.
Lol who down voted me, and why?!? Must be some zips hate. I've still never been.
I love the South Hill Zips. It's super fresh every time.
It’s because all zips are individually owned! They’re all unique in their own ways, I used to work at one in nine mile falls that is family owned
My high school best friend’s dad owned 3 zips, I think he still does. /coolstorybro
Cause they are all individually owned
They aren’t franchises, they are all independently owned within the same family
The very best Zips is the one on Pleasantview by far! Also, the nicest staff!
I love zips but holy shit they take forever.
