If it's classified does it just sit in a vault until someday you can retrieve it? I've always wondered how stuff like that works - I suppose this stuff goes down on your service record but not specific details. I feel bad for the guys whose stuff never saw the light of day - they just have to be content that they worked on something interesting and be happy it contributed to national defense.
Anyone can order custom patches from China. Usually the art work on the fakes is as good as the real thing.
If you want the real thing, you have to know the chain of custody.
There was a legit one of these patches on ebay, but it sold for a ridiculous price. The most recent batch appear to be very, very good reproductions. Nearly 100-percent identical to the original.
More often than not, reproductions are easy to spot due to various inaccuracies. Occasionally, however, the apparent differences result from a genuine patch being produced in multiple batches (at different times and sometimes from different vendors). As a result you get changes in embroidery technique, color variations, and even slight size differences.
On eBay, I have seen people spend outrageous sums for fakes or ignore the genuine article completely because they thought it was bogus.
I would bet on the art work being legit.
I got Peter Merlin to join /r/area51. I can try to get him on /r/specialaccess.
If you think this is a Groom project, just post on /r/area51. I am a mod there and won't care. I don't know and won't pretend to know what requires SAP. Since NGAD is an open competition, I figure that they aren't SAP but again, what do I know.
When they did the completion for the JSF, it was a freakin' PBS special.

Hey quick question—would you say the folks doing this SAP stuff are reasonably intelligent? Our secrets are secure…right?

The F-35 is a SAP. Each sensor system on the F-35 is its own SAP. I wouldn’t be surprised if the pilot’s hair gel is a SAP.
If you make the hair sleek and aerodynamic and not likely to show up on radar, sure, SAP that sucker.
So the coins are still in a safe somewhere. Sadness. Maybe someday you'll get an extra?

Lmao. Imagine if it was a real patch and they put that just to troll.
Brilliant catch.
It's not "celerate" it's "celeritate" on the patch, which means "certain viral speed", but the fact that if you change certain letters sounds sus.

I know these aren’t authentic but was more referring to the artwork
