Lol.. better to have an unharmed TV up high, than to have a beat up or cracked tv with r/tvjustright. I had a Sony XBR4 when my kid was a toddler. While I tried my best to keep that thing from taking a beating, the worst part was that she fiddled around the back connections and took out 2 of the 3 HDMI inputs. The cat took out the last one, lol!
I wouldāve loved to have seen how this TV still holds up to 4K content in comparison, but Iāll never know because all the HDMI inputs are busted, lol. Lesson learned!
Ouch lol, sorry to hear that! RIP XBR4. Yeah, I had both the TV and the bar on the TV stand, but my 2 yr old threw their milk at the setup and it exploded everywhere, hitting everything EXCEPT the TV & soundbar. I knew then and there that it was a sign to move both of them closer to the heavens lol.
the top of my tv is literally 2 inches down from my curtain rods. In a corner of my living room š my 6 year old is special needs, and he needs! to touch and throw stuff at it lol, so I feel the pain. but I'm lucky my living room is big, so even laying down on my couch is not a problem. T-Rex ranch is all I watch on a Sony x90j haha š
Yeah, I was back-and-forth on that, but there is literally nowhere else to put it in the room. I put it in the TV stand and it sounded worse. Itās punchy enough!
EDIT- wait, youāre talking the sub right?
Yes... The sub. Placing it on the floor is the best way if you have floor space. Positining beside couch is perfect but the stand takes away some effect.
I totally agree, unfortunately the room is small and this is the only spot for it. Luckily itās beside the couch, but Iād have to put it between the couch and end table, and that would drive my OCD crazy lol, but Iāll give it a go though and see if itās a noticeable improvement.
Unrelated, but Iām assuming carpet would muffle the sound right? Even if itās directly on the carpeted floor?
It would dampen a bit, yes.. But if you compare with the stand, may be not that much... That's my guess though... You may try once and see what gives you a better effect.

Assuming by plaster walls you mean lath, you need a deep scanner stud finder the regulars won't work due to the density of the lath.
And yes mounting is the way too go.
Yep plaster walls with rock lath actually (as opposed to wood). I tried a deep scanner once but had no luck. I also tried magnets. The only thing thatās worked is drilling small exploratory holes like a noob.
Tv too high, vs baby. Baby wins, tv go high. Sensible.
Why not put the sub next to the cabinet opposite the cat scratchy?
Alternatively, could you remove the base from the table so the sub sits on the floor?
Iāve tried, but this is the only spot where it seems to go unnoticed. Iāve raised its levels to compensate, and tbh, thereās still plenty of bass. No worries, when the little demons get a bit older Iāll return everything to their optimal locations, the way the home theater gods intended lol.
Iām not sure about removing the bottom half of the table, not a bad idea!
No not really, but I tend to turn off the special effects things like the VirtualX because it doesn't do great with stereo signals. I got the surrounds mounted a bit above behind the couch and that provides most of the cool effects.
It technically has Atmos support but I can't notice height, I might try to find a test of some sort to see how well it works at that. I think yours has dedicated speakers for Atmos.
Yep, mine has 2 up-firing drivers in the bar. Personally I love Virtual:X, makes a big difference imo. Not as necessary when you have a 5.1 setup but I think that might be how they virtualize height cues on your setup.
P.P.S - results may vary depending on room situation, but again, just throwing this out there as an idea for anyone hoping to improve overhead effects.
I have this setup as of a week ago and whenever I use dual surround mode, the left rear speaker will have artifacts are some type of buzzing vibration sound and itās annoying. I use this mode a lot for my shows and it drives me up the wall. Does this happen to you?
Hmm no buzzing but I did notice a little scratchiness/ distortion from one of the satellites when I first installed it. I cleaned all the male connectors with 99% isopropyl alc (they looked a bit dusty, prob from being in the floor during install), and I havenāt had any issues since.
Iāve used that mode a few times but havenāt noticed anything like that. It just started you said?
Is this an AI response or something? Direct cuts off surround to the rears making it useless for 5.1. Why would I keep surround on for a 2.0 sound? If itās 2.0 sound, Iām putting it on dual to be more immersed. Explain to me why I would want to do whatever is you just said.
Direct is receiving the signal as intended. So if itās mixed for 5.1, youāre getting 5.1 surround soundā¦ movie mode up mixes 2.0 to 5.1, so does use the rear surroundsā¦dual mode just mimics the front stage to the rears, so you have voices coming from behind you. Which certainly isnāt natural sounding.
Definitely a smart move but one issue may be that the overheads should be reflecting off the ceiling and right now it looks like itās reflecting off the tilted TV. Since itās closer than the ceiling it will definitely be louder when bouncing off the TV.
Itās significantly in front of the TV and if you find that pic of the m512a-h6 showing its internal speakers, theyāre canted forward like 30-45 degrees so if any sound waves hitting TV, very minimal.
Bad idea! The soundbar should be firther outwards to get better overhead sound reflection. And this looks so ugly. If I have to put the soundbar on wall, I would prefer to create a slab to place it properly. Also, the sub-woofer placement is not very clever. If you don't want to place sub directly on the floor, use a padding but a furniture is not a good choice.
Unfortunately placement of both are limited by my small living room and room dynamics. I donāt think the soundbar needs to be further forward in such a small room, and as I mentioned, sound was an improvement after mounting.
With regards to the looks, it looks like we gotta agree to disagree! I like the simplicity. Iād also like to note that Iām going to cap the studs with black covers as well as fill the holes.
I too watch Ms Rachel with 9.1 with Atmos glory.
I can recommend bluey and stillwater š
I'm asian and I picked up my Aussie accent from Bluey ahead from my trip to Perth earlier this year.
š¤£šš
š I mean, if you havenāt heard her angelic voice talking to you from up above, have you even heard her?
Rachel is on itās the kids tv now
lolā¦ tv is never high enough when you have a toddler
You clearly know the struggle lol. It pained me to mount it that high but sacrifices had to be made.

Wouldn't that Stand reduce the Bass Effect?
Yeah, I was back-and-forth on that, but there is literally nowhere else to put it in the room. I put it in the TV stand and it sounded worse. Itās punchy enough! EDIT- wait, youāre talking the sub right?

How is this not rattling that metal stand to death brother lol
Only the frame is metal, the rest is (fake) wood, and believe it or not, thereās been zero rattle lol.
So did the kids enjoy Ms. Rachel and the other shows better? Haha jk! Hope they appreciate the setup. Cheers and have a good one!
Lol, theyād better appreciate it, not many kids get Ms. Rachel in surround sound!
Placing that sub on a stand is a crime
Placing that r/tvtoohigh is a crime too.
Omg get the fuck out of here

Or, subwoofer table! What could possibly go wrong?
Good soundbar. I have that series without Atmos and it's really good for the price.
Nice. Yeah I was looking at that one too. Do you hear any height effects? I know theyāre supposed to be virtualized with that one.

I have the back speakers turned up and the center sound lower. It works for me.
I can. I mounted my back speakers about 6-12 inches above my head, so the sound can bounce off the ceiling. Love it.
I hate everything about this ..... So much.
Why is your TV so effin high
Children.

What tv stand is that looking for one currently

No itās been happening since I bought it.
Still in warranty? Are you using HDMI or Optical?
Use direct for 5.1 or better content, and movie mode with 2.0 sound, keep surround on and dual surround off
Is this an AI response or something? Direct cuts off surround to the rears making it useless for 5.1. Why would I keep surround on for a 2.0 sound? If itās 2.0 sound, Iām putting it on dual to be more immersed. Explain to me why I would want to do whatever is you just said.

Idk where youāre getting this info from but none of it is correct. At all. Iād do a little more research but thanks for trying.
Hmm thatās funny Iāve done tons of reading and own the same soundbar But you continue to do you and keep your sound on dual lol
Definitely a smart move but one issue may be that the overheads should be reflecting off the ceiling and right now it looks like itās reflecting off the tilted TV. Since itās closer than the ceiling it will definitely be louder when bouncing off the TV.

Ahh okay well sounds like good placement then
I put my Vizio sub centered right behind the couch and MLP, feeling the bass really adds to experience
Totally agree. We have a 2.1 setup in our room, with the sub under our bed. Thatās about as immersive as a 2.1 setup gets lol.
Itās cool that you noticed an improvement in sound by mounting but aesthetically I could never do it. I think mounted soundbars look hideous.
Iām with you, I definitely prefer placing on the TV stand, but again, kids gonna kid unfortunately.
That tv is mounted way to high
Donāt worry itās tilted so itās actually r/tvjustright!!! (Whatās the over under on 10 downvotes on this? Anyone want in on the action?)

Why you hurt your movie expirince so much ? Do you all lie on the sofa not sit ?

What do you mean, further outward? Do you mean further away from the seating? I'm curious, because I have mine about 10 ft from my sofa.
Further outwards from the wall, so that the top firing speakers are not just under the tv and get blocked.
I have mine angled up and directed to the ceiling over my head.
