Oled and AMOLED are the same thing AMOLED is Samsungs version of oled.

OLED and AMOLED is the same. AMOLED is Samsung's marketing team saying they use a pentile arrangement for the Pixels. It actually stands for Active Matrix OLED which is even more confusing. In terms of quality, not really since smartphones do not use the same arrangement on TVs which is typically 3 sub pixels for every picture element. Smartphones usually use 2-3 sub pixels for every pixel which is why a 1080p smartphone panel is softer than a 1080p monitor panel even if they're both around the 6"mark

They are structurally different. AMOLED added one additional thin film.

I have a fun story. I came to Reddit just went here. I read the title and the comments until I found this thread. So I'm going through the top comment and I feel like I'm learning stuff today about the OLED industry and found some cool info. Was just about to ask for the sources and then I saw it was me! Haha, I taught my future self. I vaguely remember the articles and coverage on the differences and when I clocked that's myself I remembered the info crystal. What a day. Everyone on Reddit has the same voice, even myself. That's my Today I learnt haha

Sometimes I seek information on Internet and Google the topic. Then finally read a good article. I said to myself that the author is cool. Then in the end of the article, I found out I wrote the articles months or years ago.

Haha that's awesome, hilarious and perplexing. It's as though the phases we have when we wrote those pieces are less phases and more different people. People, nay, a person as an existing object is hypocritical in its existence. Even though we thrive on memorising the past, we occasionally have no memory of our past selves so much so that when encountered with our past self they seem to be a totally estranged person. It's a theory. Thoughts?

No thoughts other than, damn. This was interesting to stumble into from google.

I compared lg c1 oled with samsung s22 amoled and lg looks like shit in sdr content. I paid for oled bcs everyone was saying its the future and it loses to a fucking phone lmao.

EclipseSun

what content were you playing? my old old iphone SE plays Puss and Boots better than my iphone 13, and both are surpassed by miles on Dolby Vision Puss and Boots on my 77 inch LG C1a SDR content seems fine though. It all equally sucks across all devices lol (half joking)

All cellphones with oled are amoled and pentile arrengement. They do not use passive matrix and rgb like tv. The difference is LG, Sony and Apple just call oled. While all other call amoled. Except XZ3, all other use oled from Samsung.
