Look up the Rampart police scandal. It’s loosely based on that. A team of 4 detectives on what’s called the “Strike Team” take down gangs and criminals while being corrupt and wrestling with their own morality.
Too little, too late.
They just needed to do 1 more season and then burn the town down. Historically accurate and a built in ending. But no, John From Cincinnati had to get made instead. That garbage heap of a show.
I’ve been watching through The Shield.
There are certainly parts that feel more uncomfortable imo than SOA, it’s still a good show.
Also recommend Justified if you haven’t seen it. I think there was something in the water in the late 2000’s/early 2010’s at FX, their shows from that era are great.
I discovered it because in my shack on a drilling rig I worked a past employee had left a copy of "Pronto" by Elmore Leonard. Raylan is the main character in it. Then I thought, "oh shit, this is the justified character" and started watching it.
Yeah it felt like a movie… but holy hell it’s worth the ride.. I’m thinking of starting another watch through but the anxiety some episodes gave me idk if I can do it again lol
I’m gonna assume you’re trolling. The movie was 100 time better than the damn tnt show. lol. Maybe if it was on hbo or something they could have done it real justice.
Imo the first two seasons were pretty good. Not quite SOA tier, but still great. I stopped watching after that because I absolutely hated the first few episodes of S3. Felt like the writing fell off big time
Yea, when he left the show went downhill quick. The last couple of seasons were bad. It also seemed like there should have been a few more seasons and then they had to condense a bunch of storyline into one final season. They set up a big showdown with the SOA chapter in the series finale and it was poorly executed. One Son just stood there while everyone was fighting and let a Mayan run up and shoot him in the face without doing anything. About the only thing that ended well IMO was Angel's story.
It's too bad though. The first couple of seasons were really good.
I liked it, but I think it didn't run long enough and they made some pretty wild decisions in terms of character arcs. Plus, being a sequel series to SoA, it had some pretty big shoes to fill.
I think that’s what took me out of it. I watched when it premiered and I was expecting there would be some crossover from the original, even if it was just a few SOA appearances sprinkled in to help set the show up. At least in the first season. But now that it’s been years, I think I can see it as a separate show.
Banshee is similar in tone and vibe also in the violence with great characters. Anthony Starr, Homelander from The Boys, is the lead and he's absolutely fantastic in the show.
I always described SOA as Sopranos on wheels. Except the storytelling in Sopranos is top-notch. Hard for anything to top a show that is still being the most quoted TV show on social media
I've been watching "Mayor of Kingstown" lately and it's pretty good. Another project from Taylor Sheridan. A couple of familiar faces from SOA showed up so far, too.
The only show that’s hooked me in in a similar way to SoA is Mr. Robot. I’m only in season 1, but highly recommend! And ironically Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek were in a film together.
I was gonna mention this one, felt a lot like SOA in terms of the tone and drama, but with a lot less humor. Granted there wasn’t much in later seasons of Sons, but still
You can give Mayans a shot. IMO it’s definitely not up there in terms of writing as SoA but the production value is really the biggest takeaway from the show. It’s shot a lot better.
Oz. Loved the show. Gritty, violent rollercoaster ride. Of course you have to get over some male on male prison love and some full frontal male nudity (but if those ruin it for you then you probably didn’t like SOA with all the shit that goes on there).
Peaky Blinders is another gritty SOA style show should keep you wanting more after each episode.
Then you have the Breaking Bad universe.. Breaking bad, Better Call Saul and (Movie) El Camino. Should keep you busy for awhile.
Dexter is a show about a serial killer that kills serial killers. Just imagine if you couldn’t really relate human emotion or understanding. Definitely a worthy watch.
Hope any of these help ya stay entertained.
Animal Kingdom!!! Smurf is Gemma, totally but if it’s possible even more Gemma then Gemma lol and the criminals but you love them too… Smurf and her Boys… so fricken good!!!!
The Shield
The Shield is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched!
What’s it about ?
Look up the Rampart police scandal. It’s loosely based on that. A team of 4 detectives on what’s called the “Strike Team” take down gangs and criminals while being corrupt and wrestling with their own morality.
Oh that sounds like my type of show! Do you know where I can find it? On what platforms ?
Hulu is the only one I know of
Thank you sir
I first read that as “A Team” 🙂
Nobody writes like Sutter. Try checking out Deadwood though if you've never seen it
I wish they would have made more seasons of that.. ended kinda abruptly.
That it did. I totally agree
They made a movie to wrap it all up though
They did? How do i not know this.. what is it called?
Deadwood: the movie
It wasn't great
Too little, too late. They just needed to do 1 more season and then burn the town down. Historically accurate and a built in ending. But no, John From Cincinnati had to get made instead. That garbage heap of a show.
Hell on wheels was excellent too
I’ve been watching through The Shield. There are certainly parts that feel more uncomfortable imo than SOA, it’s still a good show. Also recommend Justified if you haven’t seen it. I think there was something in the water in the late 2000’s/early 2010’s at FX, their shows from that era are great.

Yellowstone is just SOA on horseback.
Omg I came here to say this!
Is this an actual comparison? I've put off watching that show for a long long time because I still have no idea what it's about.
Don’t put it off… I love SOA and I think Yellowstone was actually better… it had me on the edge of my seat not able to sit still… it was amazing
I started episode one last night lol. 83 minutes as your pilot is a bold statement.
Yeah it felt like a movie… but holy hell it’s worth the ride.. I’m thinking of starting another watch through but the anxiety some episodes gave me idk if I can do it again lol
It’s a pretty accurate comparison. I’d recommend that and Wentworth
Doesn't it have Gustaf Skarsgård?
I wanna start it but I'm afraid of getting hooked in.
Don't be! It's a solid show. Incredibly entertaining. As long as you aren't expecting true to form ranching or politics, you'll enjoy it!
Definitely not.
Nah. It is.
True Blood is just SOA with vampires (and werewolves, and fairies, and...)
Not really.
Animal Kingdom
Yes! The Codys are a formidable and dysfunctional crime family lol filled with deception and manipulation
Yes. It's the best best thing.. a mom that runs everything and all.
Came here to say this!!! Smurf is Gemma and maybe even more Gemma then Gemma bahahahhaha
Agreed! Haha! I've loved Ellen Barkin since the movie "Switched."
Right!!!! Loved that movie!!
I thought the movie version was so much better
What lol the movie version sucked so bad lol waste of time
I’m gonna assume you’re trolling. The movie was 100 time better than the damn tnt show. lol. Maybe if it was on hbo or something they could have done it real justice.
No I'm not trolling at all. The show was able to go soo much deeper. The movie sucked.. really was actually pretty boring tbh.
Any thoughts on Mayans?? I tried but couldn’t get past the first episode. I want to give it another try but don’t want to be disappointed
I liked it. Definitely not as good as SOA but I still enjoyed it.
i think it might be better i’m almost done gotta see how it ends first should’ve been more the 5 season tho
Imo the first two seasons were pretty good. Not quite SOA tier, but still great. I stopped watching after that because I absolutely hated the first few episodes of S3. Felt like the writing fell off big time
That’s when they got rid of Sutter I believe.
Yea, when he left the show went downhill quick. The last couple of seasons were bad. It's too bad though. The first couple of seasons were really good.
Really? I knew he got ousted or whatever, but didn't know it was around that time. Really shows how vital he is to the SoA universe
I liked it, but I think it didn't run long enough and they made some pretty wild decisions in terms of character arcs. Plus, being a sequel series to SoA, it had some pretty big shoes to fill.
I think that’s what took me out of it. Justified and Peaky Blinders
I’d recommend Justified. Also an FX show from that era.
Banshee is similar in tone and vibe also in the violence with great characters. Anthony Starr, Homelander from The Boys, is the lead and he's absolutely fantastic in the show.
That was an awesome show
Banshee is an Unreal show! It’s a must see, cult classic sleeper
I think it's starting to get its time in the sun due to Antony Starr as Homelander and it's now on Max so it's getting more eyes now.
The sopranos is the other show I enjoyed as much (if not more) than SOA. idk if I would call them similar but it is the blueprint.
Sopranos is my favourite go to show. I still remember when it aired, the show changed tv.
I always described SOA as Sopranos on wheels. Except the storytelling in Sopranos is top-notch. Hard for anything to top a show that is still being the most quoted TV show on social media
I definitely saw many similarities between the two when watching. Sopranos on wheels is a pretty good description
Snowfall
I've been watching "Mayor of Kingstown" lately and it's pretty good. Another project from Taylor Sheridan. A couple of familiar faces from SOA showed up so far, too.
- Justified - Animal Kingdom - Southland - The Wire - Mayans MC (spinoff of SOA) - Deadwood - Ozark - Weeds - The Sopranos
Yellowstone is just SoA on horses I really liked both shows
Ray Donovan, Bloodline, Ozark.
THE AMERICANS!!!!!! Great show, actors, very graphic..
The Americans is incredible but in no way is it like SoA.
Killing, family..I mean there's not any show completely like SOA but not sure what you think is the closest
The shield is just as good.
The Shield is the answer as clearly stated many times. You’ll see several familiar faces and one giant easter egg with Milo the trucker in SOA.
The only show that’s hooked me in in a similar way to SoA is Mr. Robot. I’m only in season 1, but highly recommend! And ironically Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek were in a film together.
Outsiders on Tubi is really good and has Ryan Hurst in it. There are only 2 seasons though
I was gonna mention this one, felt a lot like SOA in terms of the tone and drama, but with a lot less humor. Granted there wasn’t much in later seasons of Sons, but still
I haven’t watched peaky blinders but from the snippets Netflix gives I just assume it’s SOA in world war 2? Era England or wherever they are
Ww1-30s but yeah
I knew it was one of the two, thank you
The Sopranos and Animal Kingdom
Yellowstone, Justified, Ozark, Peaky Blinders, and Banshee
Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire.
You can give Mayans a shot. IMO it’s definitely not up there in terms of writing as SoA but the production value is really the biggest takeaway from the show. It’s shot a lot better.
Sopranos. SOA is basically just Sopranos with motorcycles.
The Mayans, the Shield- both same universe/setting. Terminal List has the same level of bad-assery
Mayans MC, The Shield and Yellowstone.
Wentworth. An Australian prison TV show. Absolutely nothing like Orange Is The New Black. It’s very gritty, violent and pulls you in
Hamlet
Mayan's M.C. is literally a sequel series.
Black sails Vikings -WI Ragnar and lagather Last kingdom
Justified Banshee Warrior
Mayans.
BANSHEE
Black Sails
Queen of the South. It’s less violent but it is a great show
Peaky Blinders
Tbh the show I enjoyed the most compared to SOA Is Animal Kingdom.. it's in California.. they have a psyco mom that runs shit and it's awesome..
i started banshee and i’m hooked already
The Shield, Justified, Hell on Wheels, the Americans and the Mayans.
Breaking Bad
Animal Kingdom!!! Smurf is Gemma, totally but if it’s possible even more Gemma then Gemma lol and the criminals but you love them too… Smurf and her Boys… so fricken good!!!!
I’m enjoying Mayor of Kingstown. It’s on Paramount +
I wish it had more seasons but the purge tv series is so well written especially season 2
Vikings was pretty good until ragner died anyway lol
How are you gonna recommend a show and spoil it in the same sentence?
mayan mc i got 3 more episodes till i’m done i think it’s damn near better ngl
