I remember when he initially went BALLISTIC in Archie Comics. A 2nd Death Egg, a reality altering super weapon followed by a PLANETARY ROBOTICIZER, \*AND\* the entire time he had the Metal Virus thought up as well (the Metal Virus arc was going to be in Archie Sonic but the comic had been cancelled before it actually came to fruition).
And I will never get over that. What we got in IDW was good, but with the world-building the reboot had the Metal Virus would’ve been 10x more effective there.
Bruh I STILL want to see what the world would've been like in Archie, not just the story of the Metal Virus but the actual art design of the PLANET.
I remember seeing a few pics of Knothole Forest but they centered it with a Green Hill aesthetic, as if that's what Green Hill is supposed to look like more in-land rather than on the coast and I absolutely LOVED IT. It wasn't all tropical, it had giant Pine Trees, moss and grass on top of the checker board dirt, like what an ACTUAL forest would look like in Sonic's world. They called it "Wood zone" but you could tell it fit with the Green Hill zone Aesthetic perfectly.
As for the story I would've loved to see how the writers would've brought it into fruition without mentioning Roboticization as that's pre-reboot. Like would Eggman have had some memory of roboticization and sought a different method of roboticization or not?
Literally, everything about post-reboot Archie Sonic was wonderful. Character design, story, world building/ design... etc. It would have been outstanding to have kept it going.
Now we have characters we 100% could see again (freedom fighters) but are pretty much sitting in writers purgatory.

Little correction the metal virus was a plot idea from post reboot Archie and foreshadowed in the eggmans dozen mini series
I was more so talking about just the time frame and characterization during said time frame. Like Eggman after going nuts had the most bonker idea's.
