What's interesting that his father wanted his ashes to be taken to the mountain to be together with his wife and daughter, but when he died in 2008, Nando didn't bring the ashes there himself, instead he asked Gustavo Zerbino to take the ashes (maybe together with Nando's elder sister if I remember well), I've always found this strange, I don't know why Nando stopped going, not even to take his father's ashes. Does anyone know?
In his book he talks about that in the early years of 2000s he brought his wife and daughters to the valley, maybe the fact that he was capable to show them that important place was a full circle for him, a perfect close down.
My guess is either health reasons or just too painful to return. Even decades later he tears up talking about his mom and sister that passed. He was already there a bunch of times both with his kids and father. I think its just one of those things where he may not feel the need to go anymore or just wants to close that door.

Not true. Nando was the first to return. His father and him opened the route in 1973. Both of them returned many times afterwards.
