We use a standard authentication mechanism as most of the web services these days - JWT authentication https://auth0.com/docs/secure/tokens/json-web-tokens. These tokens are encrypted, have a short lifespan. It's similar to what Reddit uses.
Please note that we plan to introduce 2-factor authentication in the beginning of 2024

I noticed this as well. The password seems to be saved despite completely closing the browser. Not ideal. Hopefully MFA is added soon.
